Camp Lohikan is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It's a fantastic camp. This summer will be my third year going and I couldn't be happier. A lot of the people are really nice, and everyone is friendly. People are from a lot of different places, and of different nationalities. All the counselors I met we're really nice, and funny. Yes, there is some sneaking around, I'm not going to lie. Kids sneak around and hook up but that's expected at a lot of camps. The staff enforce rules but some slide, like the phone rule and (for girls) straighters and curling irons. The activities are super fun, especially being in the dance show or play/musical, that's always fun. The random improv classes are extremely fun as well. The cabins seem a bit crowded, but we all love it. The food isn't that great, but hey it's camp food. Camp Lohikan is a great experience and I recommend it to anyone. |

I sent my shy 12 year old to Lohikan for 2 weeks - (her idea!). Naturally, I was nervous but she came away having had the best two weeks of her life! Everything about it, she loved! Her cabin, her counselors, the activities.... It was a summer to remember! Many tears were shed on departure day (including me, as I was so moved by the friendships she had formed in two short weeks!). And a reunion is planned for the friends to get together this winter. Next year, she's signed up for four weeks! Can't say enough about it. It was awesome! |

This is the 5th year I am sending my kids and they love it. It is great for 1st time campers. My kids have really learned a lot from the camp: from how to be independent to activities that they would not normally have the opportunity to learn, such as sailing, ATV, and horseback riding. Sometimes cabins seemed cramped, but they really don't mind. They love the sense of community and independence it gives them. The staff have ALWAYS gone out of their way to make sure parents feel connected. They are receptive to phone calls and are immediately responsive to any issues or problems. Plus, there is an MD on staff--other camps have nurses. I would recommend this camp without hesitation. |

This was my first year at Lohikan. I was a 2nd year senior. I was there for 2 weeks. My first week was miserable and all i wanted to do was go home. The activities were boring, some of the staff were lazy and cursed a lot. my cell phone got confiscated even though i was using it to tell my mom i wasn't having fun. However i gave it a lot of thought and decided to stay, and i'm glad i did. The last week was awesome and i wish the 1st week would've been better. Oh but color war sucks and its no fun at all. I made some new friends who were in my cabin. A lot of the senior girls dress like ****s, then the little girls try and copy them. there is hooking up and sneaking out. the socials are boring though. the food is ok, but you get 2 big pieces of candy every night. I really do want to go back next year but we don't have the money. but otherwise i had a rough first week and a good 2nd week. I would say to you to try it out and see what you think. I'm glad i got this experience! Have fun(: |

We (living in Europe) have sent our children for the first time to Camp Lohikan. Since we have picked them, they keep on saying the same sentence: "Can we go again next year to the Camp?" There is almost no need to add more. Just to say that the organization before the camp was fantastic. Thank you, Team Lohikan. |

This was my child's first camp experience and she had a blast. It's like Disneyworld, in that it is very childcentric and solely focused on excitement and fun. The activities were fun, especially things like that bungee jumping thing, ATVs, horseback riding and the slide in the lake. The bunks were big and they had private bathrooms. Counselors were kind and the other kids were nice. They know how to make kids very happy. |

From my son's point of view, the best part of Lohikan is the activities. Lots to choose from and some really unusual options that he has never tried before. From my point of view, I really appreciated the personal attention from the staff. They quickly recognized an issue with my first time camper and immediately rectified it. He has a fantastic summer and will be going back. The staff are in tune with the kids and work hard to ensure campers (and parents) are happy. |

My kids have been at Lohikan for 4 years and can't imagine going anywhere else. They love being there and count the minutes until the next summer. The only reason I gave personal attention a 4 is because I think the counselors could do a better job at getting the kids to write home. It is the best value out there and most camps with this many activities charge at least $1000 more per session. They always learn something new and there is truly something for everyone! |

My 7 yo just got back from minicamp and had a fabulous time. I have never seen her so amped up and excited. She was smiling from ear to ear and dancing around all night. I was also very pleased with the email responses I got from my inquiries before and during camp. They were always personal and thoughtful answers to my questions. When we dropped her off we spent an hour or so walking around so she could get acclimated to her new surroundings and I could see her growing up right befoer my eyes. She felt very comfortable there and came out of her shell big time. At Camp Lohikan she is going to develop self-confidence and self esteem in a way that I couldn’t possibly show her. She’s already looking forward to a longer camp stay next year. Phenomenal job! Five Stars! btw - she said food was great, lots of fruits and vegs. I sent her with a water bottle to carry around and they have soda machines as well. |

This was my kids first summer camp experience and it was terrible. The staff is lazy, rude, uses inappropriate language and is not well trained. Upon arrival, our counselor did not introduce herself when we went into the cabin. She did not tell my daughter anything of how the camp operates. Such as waiting in 7 lines to check in, waiting in huge lines to add/drop activities. The popular activities fill up quickly. There is limited instruction for water activities and many others. The food was terrible. My daughter lost 13 pounds. I had to send her a ton of snack food. This camp has no sense of community. The pictures are all posed shots and look like they are having a blast which is far from the truth. They do not have cold water available to the campers. They have to buy it from a vending machine. With temperatures reaching the 90's, cold water all over the camp should be readily available. I am not sending my child back to this camp. |

Ignore the comment below. It was written by a disgruntled staff member. As a person who works at the camp so that my children can attend, i can assure you that a total of 3 kids ( out of 500) had lice. All were treated, quarantined for the appropriate length of time, and allowed to return to activities. Staff is excellent, caring and not hungover. Absolutely ridiculous allegations. My kids grew an extraordinary amount at Lohikan. They stepped outside their comfort zones and truly shone. |

While the facility is nice, the counselors and staff don't care about the campers. Counselors use nights off to go get drunk and spend the day after (while lifeguarding or performing other supervisory duties) hungover. Since they're extremely underpaid, they just don't care. Milk was expired, yet still served to campers. When lice was found in campers, those children were not isolated, yet allowed to continue on with daily activities with other children. I would certainly not send my children here. |

We can't say enough great things about Lohikan. Our 6th grade son is there for his second summer, and wrote home to ask us to extend his stay for the full 8 weeks! What we (and he) love about this camp is the wide range of fantastic activities--- in addition to the great beginner tennis program and water sports, our son had discovered that new interests in ceramics and woodworking and has tried and enjoyed everything from acting in a play to the zipline. The rock band studio and the nighttime activities get a lot of mentions in emails to us too. A wonderful thing about this camp is that any kid, whether "athletic" or "creative" would feel at home. From the parental point of view, it's the professionalism of the owners/staff that blew us away. The facilities are top notch, but it's the spirit and experience of the staff that's most impressive and especially reassuring to first time campers/ families. All of the kids from our son's first year returned and lifelong friends were made! |

We just returned from a wonderful visiting day. Our daughter (age 10) is a first-time camper this summer, and she's never looked happier. She knew from the moment she saw the camp when we toured last summer that Lohikan was the camp for her. After two weeks as a camper, we believe the camp experience has exceeded her expectations. We cannot stress enough how comfortable we felt today when we met her counselors, division leader, and so many other staff members. We can see why she is so happy, and as parents, we feel confident that she is in great hands.
We look forward to hearing more from her throughout the summer and seeing more great photos each day (which are an amazing life line). AND, her younger sister (after a day of kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, etc.) is certain that she is ready for her shot at sleep-away camp next summer.
We are very happy Lohikan parents! |

We just got back from visiting day and my 2 boys are having a great time. They think their counselors are "awesome" and they really like their bunks. They are enjoying the activities, particularly rugby, tennis, woodworking, archery and the lake. Last year they stuck to sports they were more comfortable with but this year they are branching out and trying all sorts of new stuff. We think this camp is completely worth the price. They offer just as much as the other camps, if not more, for a very fair cost. The staff has been extremely responsive to all our questions and concerns and any emails we've sent have been answered within a day. We highly recommend the camp. |

Staff is great, they all care about kids and love being counselors and role models. The cabins are as good as cabins can be, and it really doesn't get better then a camp with TWO trapezes. Great activities to chose from, and fun and exciting options. Personal attention, not so much.. I went to camp for 6 years, and I have been a staff member for 2, as a camper I didn't really get much attention, it was more of a popularity contest with the counselors. As for monetary value, definitely worth it! It's such a great atmosphere, and for the kids that didn't like it, they either never talked to an adult about their problems, or are just not as sociable as you should be. I definitely changed and became much more outgoing here, it's a great camp! |

I have been going to this camp since I was 7, and its this year will be my 8th year. This is the best camp! The food actually isn't that bad, and if you don't like what they serving you can always have salad, pasta, pb&j or bring cup and noodles. The activities are really fun and add/drop really isnt that bad its crowded, but you usually get what you want. The best part about camp is the friends, some of the girls in my cabin I've been friends with since my first day at camp in 2004. They're like your sisters. It doesn't really matter if you're at an activity that you don't like, if one of your friends is there you'll have a great time. Sometimes, theres some annoying counselors but after a while you realize they're not that bad. I spend all year waiting for camp. I drive up to wilkes-barre the night before cause I live far away, and I can never fall asleep. You'll make memories and friends that will last for a lifetime (or two). |

Going to Lohikan this year is going to be my third year.I absolutley love the staff and the food is okay just DON'T eat the cheesestakes. I made very good friends <3 some girls in my cabin were cliquey and dramatic, but I just stayed away from them and was with my friends. And the other two years that I went NO ONE got a lake rash. The lake is refreshing and sooo much fun, but make sure when you sign up at add/drop you have swimming buddy because they won't let you in without the buddy. Cantine is a little bit crowded but your allowed to go outside and eat your candy. And for the person who said that someone spilled Gatorade on their only pair of sneakers well your supposed to bring MORE THAN ONE pair of sneakers. The campfires are soooo much fun and the evening activities are fun but you get a little bored at the ending. Activites are great and the instructors are really entertaining and fun and incredibly funny. Definatly would recommend this camp. Can't wait to go back next year!! |

Activities are plenty, but totally overbooked. With literally hundreds of kids aged 6 to 16, and counselors incapable or unwilling to control things, chaos abounds. Nowhere to relax and extremely cliquey in the teen bunks. Girls bully other girls for attention of the boys. Our girl was actually threatened to stay away from a certain group "or else". Luckily she called us from a borrowed cell phone in the bathroom (calls home are not permitted) and begged us in tears to come get her. We withdrew her on day3. They offer a "satisfaction guarantee" for first-time campers, and money returned if your child withdraws for any reason. It's been 3 months and the $ has yet to be refunded. We have yet to receive a reply to our mails. |

I've gone to Lohikan for 5 years and I absolutely love it. The experience is great and you make so many new friends. Most of the staff is amazing. They're caring, they help work out any issues, and they're so much fun. The buildings are actually really nice for a camp. In my cabin there was one Spider the whole time, and if the people in the cabin do there jobs then they look nice. There are so many great activities to choose from, and you can choose your entire schedule every day. You have to wait in line to put activities on your card, but it's worth getting what you want all the time. Any good counselor (and most of them are amazing) gives their kids personal attention. I know mine did. If there were any problems the counselors were there to save the day. There are so many different activities to choose from, some that are not available at other camps, and overall the experience is incredible. Come here, you won't be sorry(: |

Ok, I don't even know what people are saying bad about this camp. I just came home from my 4th AMAZING summer at Camp Lohikan and it is better and better every time. The counselors for the most part are super nice and the entire senior staff is so nice and is caring. I had an issue with a counselor one year and entire senior staff tried to help me the entire time until a little over a week and then the counselor got switched. This camp is just amazing and SO MUCH FUN, not to mention. My friends and I dress crazy and I would say some of the funnest craziest kids on camp and we aren't judged because at Lohikan people aren't like that. I LOVE THIS CAMP |

It amazes me that the only bad comments lately seem to come from staff members who were fired for some reason from camp (interesting reasom to rate a camp). My son has always enjoyed the camp year after year. In fact he would live there if they would let him. Having toured the camp several times, I can see that they really take into account the interest level of the campers from years past. They are always looking to add new programs each year while keeping the older programs at a very high level. Camp is what you make of it and Lohikan is definitely a camp where you can make a lot... a lot of good memories, good programs, and good fun. For those staff members who were let go and want to complain about it...be an adult and call and talk to the director. Don't complain here and try to bring others down because you couldn't do you job appropriately. |

This is the 6th summer that my 2 children attended Lohikan. As a parent, I feel it has been a true gift in their lives. It is a place where they can try new activities, feel great about themselves, and make friends for a lifetime. They could not imagine a summer without Lohikan. My son returned as Jr Staff this year and will continue as a Counselor for years to come. They always received personal attention. It is friendly and people truly care. Kids are encouraged to try new things and to develop the skills and interests they already have. There's something for everyone & the emphasis is on having FUN. I don't know what the other comments are talking about with lake rash because neither of my kids ever got that in 6 years! I know that when my kids grow up and look back on their childhoods, Camp Lohikan will be one of their fondest memories. I am thankful for how it has enhanced their lives. This camp is amazing. |

Excellent camp. The staff was outstanding- they were so caring and I knew my son was in great hands. They addressed all my concerns immediately and I knew they took my requests seriously. The elective program was amazing for my son. He tried lots of new things, but wasn't forced to do things that he really did not like. He met great friends, and he can't wait to go back next summer. They have great facilities for a reasonable fee, and an excellent variety of activities as well.My other two children want to go now that they've heard how fun it is at Lohikan! I love this camp! |

As a former camper of Lohikan, I learned many things. Thanks to the great staff, i've learned to be more independent and self confident. The staff is warm and sensitive to each child's needs. There are over 65+ activities on a daily basis and I was always busy. As someone who is an extremely picky earter, The dining hall offered many different choice, so i never went hungry. The kids in my bunk are friends I can see me having for a lifetime. I am extremely grateful that I got to spend a few summers up at Camp Lohikan and hope that my children get the same opportunity. |

FREAKIN AMAZING CAMPPP. i made friends for LIFEEEEE. oh, and if you think this camp is clique-y it really isnt, if you think it is it probably means you arent trying to make friends, everyone is welcoming. no one will judge you, me and my friends dress/act crazy at camp cause no one wil think your wierd, its awesome. i loveee camp. OMFG. there is NO such thing as lake rash, there are no snakes under the slide, no snapping turtles under the water trampoline. yes, there are leaches AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE. and no one is stupid enough to swim to the bottom. conselorsss...hm what to say;;;some can be your best friend while others you want to go to hell lol. if you want a free, sign up for tetherball or gaga and sit on the benches somewhere around camp, or walk to the soda machines and grab a drink.and what i do, is i relax in the cabin, or if its before lypsync night, my whole cabin meets up and practices. overall this cabin is amazing. ill write more below bout some rumors... |

I worked at Lohikan and while I don't doubt that it's offered many kids positive experiences, I would never send my own children and I absolutely will not be returning to work there. It's too big, first of all, and none of the kids are forced out of their comfort zones in activities. Most never do anything remotely challenging and there is absolutely no opportunity for them to learn about nature or anything meaningful about themselves. Cliques apply throughout. There were some stellar staff members, but many were hired last minute and were BOTTOM of the barrel (the staff return rate is VERY low contrary to what the promotional material says). Dozens of staff were fired because of inappropriate behavior. I would go so far to say Lohikan is criminally mismanaged- those of us who stayed were taken advantage of to the detriment of the campers. Send your kiddo to Y camp- save thousands and get a much better experience. |

this camp is amazing! ive been going there since i was going into 5th grade, and i am now in 10th grade. unfortunately last summer was my last summer there because i'm now too old to return. lohikan is an amazing place to spend your summer...i made so many great friends and we keep in touch so much and have reunions all the time. the counselors are also great and are more like friends than adults. campfires are so much fun, and canteen afterwards is also amazing. wow, ive used the word 'amazing' so many times but thats really the only word i can think of to describe this camp. i tear up everytime i think about how i wont be going back next summer. i almost forgot to mention color war-its so much fun, each year there's a theme and 12 different teams. 12 senior girl and 12 senior boy campers are picked as captains and they each get assigned a team. some younger kids dislike color war but if you get into it and get excited about it, its amazing. just like everything else about lohikann |

Yea this camp had pros and cons of its own. I went to this camp just this summer and it was o.k. i liked one out of my two counselers. the bunks were disgusting the showers were gross the toilets had girl products all around and i was soo afraid of spiders. The activities were the worst i was happy because this isnt a competitive camp but when i went to the artws protgram we made teapot people and im a teenager. the cooking was gross to the counseler who worked this sucked at cooking we burned the food and it got raw. also there is also 1 drama program and the expect you to come every period of the day. Also choosing activities are so hard to do they run out of space and you sit there doing wimsy little projects. the food was gross. but you do make friends even though there are cliques this camp is not for me i guess. |

Being my first sleepaway camp, i didnt know what to expect. after arriving, i realized how unorganized it really was. kids get to pick their own schedules, but you have to line up in a big room to pick. this gets EXTREMELY CROWDED with kids cutting lines and activities filling up. i barely got to do what i wanted to do. you are also not aloud to spend down time in your cabin. with what felt like 100 degree, it would of been nice to be able to spend time in your cabin and cool off. this plus the lack of available water was HORRIBLE! 1 of my counslers was extremely careless and rude. some counslers were more interested in hooking up with other counslers than spending time with the kids. there was little freedom and canteen was HORRIBLE! most kids are not very nice and there are many cliques. dont listen to the good reviews because most are written by camp staff. pretty location....but choose a different camp! |

My daughter has attended Camp Lohikan for the past few summers , each time she increase her stay away from home. I feel this camp allows the children to explore many avenues of fun, as well as develop independence. She LOVES coming, & has made new friends along the way. She is already communicating with her bunk mates for next summer, as to who will be there & when & who will bring what snacks & props for the different events offered at camp. The camp owners are very accommodating to the children as well as the parents. They make it a great experience for everyone involved. The counselors are always willing to help when needed, & also to challenge your child to be the best they can be. |

Staff: My children have come home two years in a row with many funny and caring stories regarding their favorite counselors, some of whom they keep in touch with throughout the year. Prior to our attending the first year, the more senior staff was available via phone to discuss any and all of our questions. A tour in the spring was helpful too. Activities: The kids love making their own schedules and chosing from the variety of activities. Some favorites are the circus, lake, paint ball, soccer, lacrosse, archery, sing alongs at night, lipsync contests. Food: kids say the food is fine -- and now my son eats salad ... how on earth did they manage to get him to do that??? Bunks: The kids all have chores and keep things neat and clean -- even my son's bunk which was full of 12 year old boys. Overall: Great experience for my kids. They love it and we are excedingly comfortable having them stay at Camp Lohikan each summer. |

I can't say enough wonderful things about Camp Lohikan. Both of my children have been campers there for over 5 years, and I've recommended the camp to many friends. The camp truly has something for every child. The camp attracts campers and staff from around the world and around the country - my children have life long friendships year round with their buddies from Lohikan! The camp's management does an outstanding job selecting, training, and managing staff - they are really wonderful with the kids and receptive and helpful to parents. Lohikan has been an extraordinary, life changing experience for my children - I'm so glad its part of who they are! The flexible arrangements with mini-camps, two week camps, 4, 6 and 8 week camps is great (my kids did all of these at one time or another); the camp is large enough for every child to find activities and friends the love and nurturing enough to make everyone feel valued. ITS GREAT! |

Camp Lohikan was my summer home for 8 years. I loved it, and spent my entire year waiting for that June day which I would be able to return to camp. I spent most of my time at the stables, because I was a horseback rider. I made some of the best friends I have ever had at Camp Lohikan. While some of the bunks are older, the newest ones have all the upgrades! (except AC, of course, make sure you bring a fan!!) I am now 20 years old, and I feel like everyone should have the experience that I had for those 8 summers. My children will be sent to camp lohikan, if I have anything to say about it. |

My son went to Camp Lohikan for the first time this year. He started out as a 2 week camper, loved it so much that we extended him to a 4 weeker, the extended to a 6 weeks, and the for the full season! He wanted to stay for their mini camp, but we had a family vacation planned. For the people that commented about the camp below me about not getting the activities and the 'chaosness'of the camp, obviously your child is NOT a camp person in general, so don't attack this camp for your problems. The staff are great, and so responsible. My son said the best part besides the day activities was the wide range of evening programs they offer! My son is going back for 8 weeks next summer and wishes he went for longer. Mark Buynak is DEFINITELY doing something right!Camp Lohikan is 2 thumbs up and i recommend it to anyone who is interested in sending their child to sleepaway camp, look at their first-time camper guarentee! My son said the only negative thing about lohikan is that is only 8 weeks! |

I went to this camp for five years and loved it. I didn't go this year because it was getting a bit old, and being a senior girl means way too much drama. I believe this is a WONDERFUL camp, but not right for some people. I started out at about ten years old, and it's absolutely perfect for kids of that age. If you start young, and keep going you'll love it, no matter what type of person you are, because you'll make life-long friends. If you start when you're 13 or older, there WILL be a ton of drama and sneaking out, and if you're not very social and willing to get involved in that, it might not be right for you. I loved this camp though. And sure, the cabins aren't like five-star hotels but what camp cabins are? It's so much fun, but like anything, it won't be enjoyed by everyone. I have found, however, that out of 20 or so girls in my cabin every year, there only seem to be about one, many two girls who end up not enjoying the camp. I say, if you have the money, try it out! |

I found during the social activities that a majority of my friends were counselors and i guess in more ways than not, thats good. The facilities are what you would expect from a summer, but theyre are some that prove to be start of the art. While at camp i found my self to be hating it at times, but in the car ride home i found myself to already be missing it. Lohikan is good for everybody in that the lazy kids can do theyre thing and the active kids can do theirs. The only real problems with the camp are the infirmary and the fact that mark buynak is an idiot |

I just got home from Lohikan 2 days ago and I had an amazing time. This was my 5th year and I am definetly with out a doubt going back next year. There are so many activities to do each day that you will never get bored. I made my best friends at camp and i love them like sisters. The food isnt the best but its really hard to make amazing food for 1,000 people and not spend too much money....Its the best camp ever |

I went this year as a first time camper for two weeks. I loved it. The staff was nice and the activities were great. After dinner, you get to pick two candies from the canteen! I liked my bunkmates and my counselors. Sometimes at dinner we have chicken strips, which are really good! I am going to go back for 4 weeks next summer. |

I LOVED LOHIKAN! I went there last year as a first-time camper and loved every minute of it. I had never rode horses before and after 4 lessions I was already learning how to canter! The Hershey Park trip was good. People complain about how its boring if you dont want to go on the rides.. but obviously if you go to an amusement park and dont go on any rides .. well its gonna be boring. I NEVER got any lake rash. Nor did anyone I know. And I didn't even really see PDA. Also, I didn't see or hear of ANYONE sneaking out at night or roaming the streets? CAMP LOHIKAN IS A GREAT CAMP AND I'VE BEEN COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS UNTIL I GO THERE NEXT !! |

I won't say it's a bad camp, I didn't feel my child was ever unsafe. It's definitely not for everyone. My kid is not very assertive and got edged out of a lot of activities because adding/dropping was chaos and the good activities filled up quickly so the aggressive kids could barrel ahead - she basically made lanyard for 3 hours a day. The one day she did ask to go to the infirmary for a reason that was indicated on her med form - she was told that they were having a meeting and had to sit outside in the heat for 2 hours and was not even allowed to go back to her bunk to lie down. 2 out of 3 counselors were very nice and the other was ok but I was very disturbed by the division head that told my sobbing child that she couldn't take her cabin anymore that night - apparently someone in the cabin was stealing and generally disruptive. I am grateful to her 2 nice counselors without whom I don't think she would have lasted the 2 weeks. Some kids loved it but I wouldn't send her back. |

Though you'll see a lot of 3's, I should say that my camper LOVED Lohikan and wants to go back next year for 4 weeks. He said that the food was NOT GOOD. He liked the counselors - I was not wowed. Facilities seemed okay, but cabins seemed a little small and only one free swim in the pool in a 2-week period. We may very well send him again next year, and at the same time I may explore other somewhat similar options. |

This was my son's first year at Lohikan and it was fabulous! He had the greatest time! The staff was great and supportive! There is no other camp that can compare to the many (over 65) different and adventurous activities that Lohikan offers! It really keeps your child busy and not just sitting around bored! IT was truly a great first time experience!!!! |

ive gone to camp lohikan for three years as of this year and i can tell u that without a doubt this camp is the most amazing and thrilling camp ever. the counselors seem to know exactly what kids want to do and embrace upon it by letting them do it. they have so many activities from modern classic camp activities like hiking and horse back riding, to now cool fun things like jet ski and quad. if u havent visited camp lohikan i suggest u do it NOW! |

I have worked at 7 camps in 5 different states and this camp is by far the best camp I have ever worked at or attended. The activities are vast and amazing. You will not be able to find another camp with more quality in activities and staff. The camp is set in the beautiful Pocono Mountains; it has a lake and a pool, and the sports activity areas are better than some colleges. My current job as a quality assurance coordinator at a hospital is a direct result of my employment in the infirmary of this camp. The camp infirmary is an extensive rural medical clinic that offers extremely good preventive and emergency medical care. I would recommend and have recommended this camp to my family, friends and anyone interested in a fantastic summer. You will not be able to find a more extensive camp with such a small camp atmosphere. Some of the best summers of my life were spent at Lohikan. |

OK PLEASE READ! ALL OF THESE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE WRITTEN BY THE CAMP! They are all lies! The cabins are pretty clean at tthis camp, but the staff sleep all day and the girls make out with eachother in the canteen and it's just not a comfortable environment for me or most other kids. If u dont sho up to your activities, they dont notice and at the lake they have a lifeguard chair but NEVER a lifeguard so it kind of defeats the purpose of safety. And yes there IS hooking up in this camp. This camp deceives you when you first see it. They say they have stained glass, which is glueing colorful glass to foam. I actually made a corkboard bjut guess how much cork i was allowed to use? ONE INCH so yes this camp is cheap. And ive seen a few kids walking around with rifles alone. so... if you wanted the truth this is it and the staff from the camp actually check this site and if theres any negative things about it, they write another comment clarifying its not true. So... thats the truth |

Why is everybody saying this camp has bad cabins and stuff? What do you expect? a 5-star hotel at a camp? And playing hooky is fun once-in-awhile I say you are all over-estimating a summer camp! You can't expect to see everything you've always dreamed of, or what you've seen on the newest Zoey 101. You have to expect what you think a summer camp would look like; crappy food, bad beds, and the summer of your life! IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, YOU GO THERE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND TO MAKE LIFE-TIME FRIENDS!! |

I went to this camp for the first time in 2007, it was my first sleepaway camp. it was amazing! i WILL admit that they're a little too strict about their rules, esspecially PDA, and I can verify rumors about the camp. First off, they do not run away or play hooky at night. No one ever does it, and you will get kicked out. Second, I got the same rash, but I didn't know it was from the lake. If you don't mention it to people, nothing will happen. If someone does and they get teased, that's their problem |

This camp changed my life, & it did so in every positive way it could have. My first yr of camp i have nevr been away from home & i wasnt the most outgoing person. Camp changed that. This camp does have over the top & excessive amounts of activities, but wat u should rly look 4 in a camp is the social experience. Activities r fun, camp food is camp food, and bunks r bunk Wat rly compels people 2 come bak is the people There is such a vast variety of people u encounter as people from ALL ovr the COUNTRY, & out of it integrate at lohikan. Ive have kids in my cabin from hong kong, hondoriez spain puerto rico, california, florida, idaho, new jersey, new york, ect. W/ diff backgrounds also comes many personalities u learn SO much frm these people & they become more of a family to u than friends. u learn abt urself, open ur mind, try new things. There isnt a day i don start off a sentence with "one time at camp"I was staff and campr im out of room so any ?s email sillybananahead@optonline.n |

I went to lohikan for two summers and they were the best summers of my life. I made the absolute best friends there and the memories I made there will stay with me forever. I haven't been to camp since 2001 and I still tell stories of my summers at Lohikan and still keep in touch with most of the friends I made there. Yes there are a few people here and there that get homesick and want to go home but overall I thought it was one of the greatest experiences in my life and my only regret about camp is that I started so late and didn't spend more summers there. I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE LOHIKAN! I would deff recomend it to anyone! |

As a former counselor, I have to laugh at the parent's review with the children 'roaming the streets' during activity periods. You tell us what to do with kids that walk slowly between activities, or have to change for their activities (ie lake, horseback, quads, paintball...) and are walking to them. Lohikan is an amazing experience, if you take it as that. I met the most amazing people at Lohikan, and I hope to return for summer 08. As for homesick children, it has been proven that if we let them call their parents and the parent is like 'ooooh i miss you' when the kid is 3 days into a 4 week session, it's only bad for the kid. I had a camper who cried almost every night when she was going to sleep because she would read the emails her mother sent that read 'We miss you so much here at home. We want you to come home. Even your cat misses you!' If you want to ruin your kid's experience, that's your own perrogative, but most kids at the camp have an AMAZING time and come back again! |

it was ok i had fun but the caBENS suck but if you haVE TO TAKE A CRAP THEY WILL LET GO IN THE NERUSES OFFICE. THIS IS MY FRIEND i STAYED 4 2 SESIONS. iN BETWEEN THE SESSIONS, THEY GET RID OF MOST OF THE BEDS SO THE PEARENTS DON'T KNOW THAT THERE ARE BLIKE, 20 KIDS IN A CABIN. AND THEN WE WENT TO hERSHEY pARK. iT WAS HORIBL. If you didn't want to go on a ride, you'd have to sit there and do nothing. And if one person in your group didn't want to bye dinner, your whole bunk would have toeat frozen chicken, which was only warm cause it was sitiing in the bus for six hours. Watse of a day at an awesome park. |

i am almost 14 years old and i attended the one week program (mini-camp). this was my first time at a sleepaway camp and i loved it!! the staff is so nice and i liked all of my counsolers! the activities were fun and i really liked the lake even though it was very cold out and i only got to do it twice. the whale is awsome! (it is like a banana boat). there are so many different activities to choose from! the thing that is so true that everyone says is that the people are so nice here. i made so many friends here, even kids that werent in my cabin. this year i came by myself thinking i'd make 1 or 2 close friends and i became BEST friends with 6 other girls that were in my cabin. there are always some weird kids but there are plenty of nice and normal ones. the facilities are pretty clean. in my cabin there were many girls from pennsylvania and new jersey. i was the only one from new york. i love cabin 21b and it is my life and i am deffinately going back next year!! love, ML |

My son had never been to sleepaway camp before and went for the one week mini camp. He enjoyed himself and had a good experience living away from home. The counselors were nice and seemed to be good role models for him. Even though the weather was terrible and he could not go swimming the whole week,he enjoyed the bungee jump, games, woodworking ect. Could not go on ATV's because sign up sheets were full. That was disappointing. We liked being able to send him e-mail during the week and he enjoyed doing computer games and game boy since he is not super athletic. Camp seems well organized and kids semmed nice. My son will be back for a 2 week session next year! |

I'm 13 and this summer was my first time at sleepaway camp. At first i was really nervous but i found out that lohikan was the BEST time of my life! These past two weeks went by faster than i would've expected! Although all the activities were horrible((bungee jumping gets kinda old after a while)) most of us wound up playing hooky ((as in not filling out the activity card)) cause all the activities were soo unorganized and boring. The one thing that i LOVED about lohikan is the people ((everyone is so nice!)) and the counsolers are so cool and happy to help you. You'll definitly wind up making hundreds of new friends and it's so cool meeting other people from other states ((thats another cool thing about lohikan all the counsolers and kids there are always out of state and some come from different countries!)). Overall i love lohikan except for the activities... ps. there is no such thing as lake rash and there are no snapping turtles :]] |

Our son is back for his 4th summer. He'll "age out" after this year, and we're upset. Its been a great place for him to spend his summers. The staff is warm and supportive. Many return year after year. OUr son has made good friends, keeps fit and always finds something he enjoys doing. One year it was trail biking, another year weight lifting, always lake activities. This was a great find. |

The kids are TERRIBLE. One girl i barely knew came up to me and sprayed my eyes with bugspray, thinking she was funny. Counselors who have had the same girls for a couple years let them pick on me, but when i retaliated, I got into trouble. You will find a bunch of kind-hearted peers, but many of the girls are catty. |

This camp is bad, has no good activities, is unorganized and does not make you feel at home. The people are unwelcoming. It is absolutely disgusting |

have two children that go to this camp and they can not wait for summer to return. They pass on every other option for the summer to return to Lohikan, the camp must be doing some thing right. |

After the third day of sewage overflowing accross the cabin floor, finally someone wandered into the cabin who knew how to use a plunger. Staff could not attend to children because of overlapping duties. For a camp in such a beautiful area I was dismayed that our kids never were alowed or assisted in exploring any sort of nature activity or hike. Too much time spent doing inane things like bungee jumping for hours each day. Kids with legitimate problems were dismissed as just being homesick. Not an emotionally healthy place for kids. Very flashy activities, no character. |

Just to clarify a few things: There are no leetches. The turtles live way way out deep, where we don't swim. The snakes (only a few anyway) live on the other side of the lake. They are all very afraid of people. In my 8 summers there, no animal has ever bothered a human (at least aquatic animal, there was that weasel who had it out for the 250 lb counselor). The lake is not dirty and noone has ever gotton "lake rash." We test the water in the lake every couple of days. It's never failed. And Romanian counselors disappearing in the middle of the night is the type of thing that makes life more interesting. |

My children love this camp!! They talk about it all year! There are so many activities, they are exposed to things they would never get to do otherwise. Last summer, they learned to SCUBA, played paintball, went jet skiing, rode ATVs, did rifely, went kayaking, and jumped on the bungee trampoline. The camp staff comes back year after year and so they really get to know the kids. My children did great with the food because there are so many choices. The kids that come to camp are down to earth and not snooty so you don't have to worry about what to pack. Visiting day is really fun because you get to use the lake and other facilities, see the cabins, and take your child out for ice cream. If you call with a concern, you get a quick response. The cabins aren't the greatest, but you're not staying at the Ritz, and there are bathrooms in the cabins, unlike other camps. Also, the counselors sleep right in the rooms with the campers so there is always supervision. Really fun camp!! |

I can not begin to stress what a great camp this is. As a parent who sent their children to camp in the hopes that the kids would be kept busy and have great fun, I was not dissapointed! The choices of activities that the kids choose from daily is amazing and never did I hear my kids were "Bored". As for my yougest, she could not have adjusted better. She made easy friends with the other campers and her counselors all 3 of them were fantastic with her and the others. We enjoyed the visiting days and was impressed how the facility could run so smoothly with the number of cars, and families that where there the whole day. Koodoos to the upper management! The facility itself is improving everyday with new equipment and bigger buildings. I especially love the new indoor riding ring which is really big. Again I can't say enough about the camp as I give my hats off to a well run facility. ps can't wait for the ski reunion if we ever get snow... |

I hated this camp. Everything was so hard to find, and there was no one to help you. The bunks were gross. Also, you HAD to be at every activity. There was no time to just rest at your bunk. The lake was ok, but it scared me that there were snakes by the water slide, and big turtles living underneath the water trampoline. |

Look, Lohikan is a good place for younger children to experience the largest variety of activities. You meet a lot of good friends there and can experience a lot if you are open minded. The senior staff that runs the camp is good at organization but terrible at managing unpredictable problems such as theft. The place is run by a lawyer who lives and breathes safety, and whatever isn't liable to him, he ignores. For teenagers, up to 30 kids are usually sneaking out everynight making friendships even closer...and more memorable... and the camp staff really doesn't bother to stay up and catch anyone. I met the coolest friends, the best girl, and just had the best summer social experience at this camp. Bottomline: For teens: A memorable summer social experience you will hold onto for a long time, this place is for you.""""For younger kids: You want to do that thing but never could find a place to try it. Lohikan probably has it. You can see all the activities on the web site |

It was alright as far as camps go... lots of different activities to choose from. The food sucked, but what would you expect? You can always bring Cup-O-Noodles if you want. I had a counselor from Romania who ran away... she went on her day off and just never came back.. that was a strange experience, but none the less Camp Lohikan left me some interesting memories. |

I found my first summer at camp lohikan horrible. But it was my first time ever away from home. I have attended Camp Lohikan for over 4 years, and I am returning this year as a councelor and a music instructor. Camp Lohikan offeres 10x more than any other camp Ive ever visited. If you want a camp with a good swimming program, then find a camp with a swimming program, if you want one with a real lake, find one with a real lake. But if you want a place where you can try and experience literly hundreds of different things and activities, Id say go with Camp Lohikan. For me it' has been a place of self discovery, friendship, and countless good times. As for saftey at Camp Lohikan, there is little stealing, and the most dangerous activities are paired with some of the best staff you can find. My suggestion to new campers and future Lohikanites, Id say come with an open mindset, and be willing to try anything at least twice. - Garrett, Lohikan Alumni. |

Lohikan is terrible. I went for two years and both times I was miserable. The staff was not very nice to me. My first summer there, one of my bunkmates poured Gatorade into my only sneakers. It never dried and I had nothing to wear on my feet.
My counselors did nothing.
The lake is full of leeches and germs because it's man-made. It's disgusting. People get lake-rash all the time.
Another thing: the FOOD. The food is unedible. They have a salad bar for lunch and dinner and cereal for breakfast, so I was living off cereal and tomatoes for the whole summer. |
