3/12/14   4     4     4     2     1   I went to this camp for one summer and have never been back. During rest hour there were no counselors and because of this the kids acted inappropriately. I was told because I was new I had to fight someone in the cabin. I ignored the kid and stayed on my bunk. Another kid told me someone did something inappropriate to him during rest hour and when he went to the owner he said the kid was homesick. What?! I would never recommend this place to anyone. It's a shame because its beautiful and the counselors are nice but being on guard during rest hour wasn't something I had planned to experience in a summer at such a high priced camp. Did I mention my Nintendo that a kid broke on purpose? The kids here were awful!!! RID: 47030

Click to report rating    6/11/13   4     5     5     5     5   Cls is the best place on earth! This is gonna be my fourth summer and i am sooooo excited to go back! Roger and Dagni are so nice. My first summer I was all alone and didn't know anyone but the councillors made sure that no one was left out, they made sure that every one got to know each other. My second year the staff wasn't great all of my friends and I thought that they treated us like younger girls! This past year was the best! There was no new girl in my bunk so we all just grew closer with each other. Even though some of the girls live all the way on the other side of the country I can still say that they are like my sisters! There is a great structure at camp and it is not like you can walk around all day, you actually have to go to activities and they make sure that you are there and that nothing has happened to you. On the first day of camp every one is so happy to see each other and it is like you have never left! Overall camp is the best place on earth! RID: 44728

Click to report rating    4/21/13   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my 7th summer at CLS and I can't wait. Everything is so nice and the staff really makes you feel at home. I've made my best friends for life there and I can't imagine my life without them. The food is beyond the best food you'll find in any camp ever. Roger and Dagni are like my second parents I can go to them for anything and they are there for me. It's not just me, it'a all the campers. There's just this feeling in the air of togetherness and it makes you feel accepted. The activities are great because there is such a variety of things to do there really is something for everyone. If you're into sports, got that. Art, got that. Animals, reading, science they even have all of that. Laurel South was the first camp I ever looked at and the only camp I have ever looked at and I fell I love with the camp and the staff the moment I walked in. People have different opinions on this camp for and it's their own opinion but to me, Laurel South couldn't be a better place! RID: 44321

Click to report rating    12/11/12   5     5     5     5     5   Next year will be my 7th year at Camp Laurel South; and i have two more to go. It is like my second home, as if Roger and Dagni were my second parents. I make amazing friends there that i will be friends with forever. Every year i count down the days until i get on that flight to camp. to all of the parents out there this is 100% the best camp to send your children to. The staff is great and the facillities are amazing. From arts and crafts to ropes course. I get alot of personal attention. I would defenitly recoment this camp!!! RID: 43200

Click to report rating    10/28/12   5     5     3     5     4   This camp is definitely geared for baxter-gash age kids (5th to 6th grade) before that, the kids feel like they have a lot of freedom, and it is fun, and during that age, the activites are just the right level. After that, although you still have fun, the dress code and scheduled activities can be a little too strict. ONce you are in Katahdin you sometimes want more freedom than they give you. Overall, i have made some of my best friends there, but i would not recommend it if you want a "rustic" camp (which i didn't, so it's ok). The food is good, lots of choice, and the activities are good although after a few years you dont want to do all of them, you just want free time. That is Laurel South's only flaw in my opinion. The counselors and campers are generally very nice, and you will have a great time. RID: 42940

9/6/12   5     5     5     5     5   What a great summer! This is a magical place filled with kind and caring counselors. Loved everything...great sports, activities, spirit, facilities, staff, food and fellow campers! In response to other posts about rich spoiled kids: anyone who can afford to go to camp is lucky and privileged! However, I found my bunkmates ridiculously low key and down to earth, generous, and NICE! I loved every minute and everything about LOSO and am counting the days until I get to go back! RID: 42601

12/10/11   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing! This was my sisters last year and 7th year, and she is deffinitly coming back as a councelor. The food is AMAZING! And there are so many activities to choose from. I think of Laurel South as my 2nd home, and Roger and Dagni are like my 2nd parents. They take amazingly good care on us. The councelors are terrific also. They are tons of fun and you can always count on them. One of the best parts about camp is being with your closest friends all the time! They can always help you out. If you are younger, the councelors play fun games with the kids so they will get to know eachother better. The field trips are also sooo much fun! It is always a great day in the state of maine!!! :) RID: 37484

Click to report rating    2/3/08   5     5     5     4     4   Having been a camper at Laurel South since 2000 (8 years!), I can honestly say I know this place like the back of my hand. For those parents looking for a secure place for their younger children (going into 2nd and 3rd grade), this is it. The counselors are all very attentive and protective. Roger and Dagni try their hardest to make Crescent Lake your second home. For those kids who find others jappy, it's 100% true. A LOT of the campers tend to be from concentrated areas where Judaism is prevalent. Some campers believe they have free reign over others, but Roger and Dagni always seem to squash those attitudes. However, once you find your niche, Laurel South can be the best. There is structure in every activity, so you know your child won't have the opportunity to sit around and do nothing. The food is better than any camp, and the dining hall always offers healthy/veggie alternatives. Laurel South is without a doubt, the place to be, and I ABSOLUTELY plan on returning as a counselor RID: 19811

Click to report rating    12/22/07   3     3     5     5     3   This was my first summer at cls. It was fun and the staff was really nice to me. The only problem was that there were leetches in the lake and bugs in the showers. But over all I had a great first summer. Im totally going back! RID: 18251

11/14/07   1     5     3     2     1   The lake has leeches in it, and they would make us swim in it. Although Laurel South is a pretty good camp, it some times was horrible. The people there are rude, crude, and socaly unexeptable. But, I did have a good summer. They only let you talk to your parents twice the whole time you are there. I got really lonely. The stuff they let you do is good. A lot of nice you are there they bring in a really big screen and the whole camp watches a really long movie, which is fun, but there are so many micitoes which just dont go away. When you put bug spray on, they still just dont go away. The counsler was really mean to me and went agents me. The kids are annoying and I am deffenitly not going back! RID: 17067

Click to report rating    9/19/07   4     4     4     4     2   Although there are great experiences to have at this camp, it is very much a 'rich kid' camp. It's obsessed with celebrity and making rich parents happy, so there's an attitude of entitlement that surrounds the place. The kids are about as homogeneous as it gets, and the girls will make anyone feel like dirt. It's not really camp-it's a country club. RID: 15446

Click to report rating    7/1/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love laurel south. As a camper of five years it has been a great place for me not only as a home away from home in the summer, but as a place where the friends last all throughout the year. The friends you make at CLS are ones that will last a lifetime. The family enviorment that roger and dagni create as camp directors is astonishing. The way that the counselars morph into your friends and seem to be enjoying themselves just as much as you are is magnificent. This is all, without mentioning, the fantastic food, wildlife, beautiful outdoors-yness, facilities and variety of programs. The cabins are kept clean, and the equipment is top notch. It is a great place to seperate yourself from the stressful and judgemental outside world and just let go, while having the time of your life. Since the directors have kids that are campers themselves, the camp is based around the kids. The improvements are all based around the campers, in a constant effort to make it the best camp in camping. RID: 12630

Click to report rating    6/20/07   5     5     5     5     5   This is my faveorite place on earth. I love CLS and cant WAIT to go back each summer. Unfortunately this is my last summer and i dont know what i'll do with out camp, my camp friends, the counselors, rog and dag, and the overall experience in my life. My absolute best advice is to send your kids to this camp. they'll LOVE IT. girls, boys, any age.. they'll have the best time, make the best friends and ultimately have an unforgettable experience RID: 12251

Click to report rating    12/13/06   5     5     5     5     5   This is my seventhe year at Laurel South. I have two momre years left and it feels like its ending so soon. CAmp Laurel South is the best camp ever. Roger makes you feel like your the only person at camp. You get so much attention and there is no shortage of friends. Even if your new the kids who have been going longer just let you blend in and be your friend. I would never go anywhere else. The only thing is that you have to sign up in Octobere the year before, so you have to sign up early. RID: 5940
