7/13/12   1     2     1     1     1   My daughter attended this camp and I strongly recommend against sending one's child there as it is a very poorly run camp. While the owner is pleasant, he is clearly in over his head and knows nothing about dealing with children. There is no structure in the camp--campers may choose their own schedule, call home as often as they like and bring electronics. Although it advertises itself as an arts/dance camp, the activities are quite basic (for e.g. only elementary Tap is available). While the lake is beautiful, the facilities are quite run-down for a camp in that price range. RID: 41689

6/17/12   5     5     5     5     5   Med O Lark is the best camp ever!!! The staff is so nice and caring. Last tear one of my friends got home sick and our counselors really cheered her up. The cabins have just been renovated so they're really nice and we have a lot of room to put all our clothes and the beds are really comfortable. The activities are so amazing! You have such a variety of activities you can do. From horse back riding, candle making to rope courses you'll never get bored. At Med o Lark campers and staff are so accepting of who you are and nobody is mean or unfriendly. I think it's definitely worth the cost. I'm sooo happy I'm going back this summer!!! I definitely recomend this camp!! RID: 41329

3/16/12   5     5     5     5     5   Med-o-lark is almost too good to be true. BUT IT IS TRUE! Scott and his staff have managed to provide kids with a stress-free environment, packed filled with the most amazing artistic and creative options - so that they soar! The tolerance and acceptance displayed by kids, when they, themselves are thoroughly relaxed and supported, is nothing less than poetry in motion. The pace is so relaxed - and there is simply no competition that pits campers against each other. Kids are bright, creative, warm and accepting. This is truly a unique and beautiful camp experience.  8/4/11   4     5     5     5     5   There is only one thing I would complain about this camp; some of the directors there are easily frustrated. The people here are actually SO nice that at first it really scared me! Everyone there genuinely cares about you and would do anything for you. Let me just tell you, the negative reviews are completely wrong! This is a camp where NICE people go, so if you can be nasty in any way, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! This is a place that is more of a home to people than their winter homes. Everything here is beautiful. There is a gorgeous lake and lovely scenery. Although, some of the cabins are a little older than others, they all have bathrooms and plenty of personal space. I strongly recommend this camp! RID: 36614

1/13/11   3     3     3     3     3   after several years of camp experience, i can only give it a mediocre rating. the staff and activities were inconsistent from year to year. the number of campers kept growing from year to year due to a lowering of the age of the youngest camper. quite honestly, it got too big. predominantly girls, about 80%, it also began sliding toward a "mean girls" attitude which was most unfortunate. fortunately, my daughter was one of the popular kids, so she didn't suffer from this shift in many of the campers' behaviors and dispositions. the owner's a good man but i feel the camp has outgrown his capabilities due to over expansion.  1/11/11   1     2     2     1     1   Snotty campers with attitudes. Not going back this summer for sure. Girls are mean and they don't try to make friends with new girls. I didn't know anyone when I went to camp and they all seemed to know each other. I was an older camper which might be why. RID: 34745

6/26/10   5     4     5     5     5   This is my daughter's 2nd year at MOL. She was packed and ready to go a WEEK before her departure date! In fact, her early enthusiasm was so contagious that her 21 year old brother is also going - as a counselor! So we are hearing both sides of the experience. Happily, they say the same thing. My son is impressed with the management of the camp, the focus on campers first, and the sheer number of counselors (and Mr. Picky eater even likes the food!) My daughter is returning with about 3/4 of last year's cabin mates - together again! They are from California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, NY, Connecticut and Maine. They have kept in touch since last year through Skype and text messages. She is particularly excited about the "Circus arts", the ropes course, horseback riding, candles, beads, and the brick oven pizza opportunity! Scott Weinstein (owner) has been incredibly accessible - important when your kids are traveling half way across the country. Can't say enough good things! RID: 33125

8/12/09   5     3     5     5     5   MOL is the best camp in the world and you can do anything. You choose your own activities. Saturdays are lazy days where there are no planned activites and you can sleep till nine. The food is good and the people are sooooo nice. The cabins are a bit run down, but it is still good. Snack is so good. I love Choco Tacos. Med-o-lark is the best. RID: 30706

2/20/09   5     4     5     4     3   I LOVE MEDOLARK. Every single day, I think about this magical place, and I could never forget about it. It has a place in my heart, and I will always think about Medolark no matter what. The people there are great, the weather is nice, and again, the people are wonderful!!! I have made many friends there, and I tried things at MOL that I never would've been able to do here at home, such as candlemaking. I had an absolutely fantastic time at camp, and it is the one place in the world where I feel I truly belong. There is no other place like MOL. I'm glad I chose this camp out of the 25 that I was seriously considering. MOL caught my eye because there was just something different: it was an arts camp. & it's the best there is! I will forever cherish the friendships I have made there. Bravo to the people at Medolark who make this place so incredible! YOU ROCK! RID: 29061

Click to report rating    11/27/08   5     5     5     5     5   this camp is amazing...there are simply no other words to describe it. every summer, i count down the days till camp. 8 weeks isnt even enough. everyone is so welcoming, i never even get homesick...in fact, this is the only place i truly feel at home. there is a sense of meaningful community. it would almost be a sin to turn down an oppurtunity to attend such a place as medolark, & i strongly doubt another one exists. Click to report rating    9/14/08   5     5     5     5     5   I've attended Med-O-Lark for four years in a row, always staying longer because 4 weeks is not enough. It was my first time at an overnight camp and I wish it was more of a live-here-for-the-rest-of-your-life camp. The friendships you create at camp are like none other and based on that alone, MOL is the most amazing place. But the classes aren't bad either;) My senior year was the greatest and I hope to return as a counselor very soon. There is no place better! RID: 26536

Click to report rating    8/3/08   4     5     5     4     3   MOL is a wonderful place. The ppl there really do make u feel "right at home."On my first day there, everyone greeted me with friendly smiles and it was at medolark where I met the best people in the world.True, not ALL of the counselors r nice, but the majority of them r.I rated 4 for personal attn.b/c sometimes I felt like I was a face in the crowd, except when I was w/ my counselor or friends.MOL is such a great place that I wish I could've stayed longer.I wouldn't mind spending my whole summer(or entire yr)there.Even strangers would come up to me& say hi.I love the activites they offer b/c I know that I'll never find them anywhere else.I also like how campers are able to choose all their activities&change if they decide 2 do something else.MOL was very relaxing&I loved the weather&all the sunny days.It rained only about 2 or 3x when i was there.I rated MOL a 3 for the monetary value b/c it was so pricey, although the property was really nice.I LOVE MOL&I can't imagine a world w/o it! Click to report rating    7/28/08   5     5     5     5     4   This camp is amazing! It says it is non-competitive and that might be a throw back but trust me if you want to compete you can! This is a great camp for artists, athletes, muscians or creative people. The staff is great and you meet a lot of new friends. I was thinking that the camp videos were lying when everyone is so nice and you make so many friends with first day, but EVERYONE in my cabin introduced their selves and we made an instant bond! Defintally send your kids here! Although it is quite expensive it is defintally worth all the pennies. RID: 25199

Click to report rating    5/29/08   5     5     5     5     5   I honestly don't know what I can say about Med-O-Lark. It was, quite simply, the greatest thing I've ever experienced. That's not an exaggeration. It is the most life-changing thing that I have ever gone through thus far. Sadly, I only got to go for but one summer. Yes, the reason was because I couldn't afford it. While this may seem to contradict the "monetary value" rating, it really doesn't. While rather expensive, it was worth every penny. There honestly isn't a single thing I can think of that I didn't like about it. Every time I'm reminded of it, my emotions swirl about like a maelstrom. On one side of the spectrum, my heart flies, thinking of the memories I experienced there. But on the other side, my stomach twists and contorts merely thinking about the fact that I'm not going back. I suppose that, if anything negative is to be said about Med-O-Lark, it's that it will leave you wanting to go back year after year. Fate willing, my kids will be going there someday. RID: 23467

Click to report rating    5/27/08   5     5     5     5     4   What can I say, my daughter loves this camp. We have a beach house right next to the boardwalk where she can hang out with all her friends in the summer, however, her summer highlight is always Medolark. This will be her 5th and final year there and she can't wait. When money got tight this year she took on extra jobs and asked for money instead of gifts for birthday and christmas to help with the cost! That says alot! I know camp memories are priceless and thanks to Medolark so will she. RID: 23426

Click to report rating    3/17/08   5     5     5     5     5   Absolutely amazing! I had never been to a sleep away camp before, so i was nervous about going to Med-o-lark. When I got there, everyone was extremely friendly to me. I felt like i had know everyone forever. I didn't mind at all the PDA rule, i wasn't there to have a 'summer fling'. The activities were great! The food was fantastic (especially for vegetarians!)! Maine is beautiful, although it rained a lot. There was never nothing to do. The only bad part about my stay was that a few girls in my cabin started a lot of drama. The musical was superb! I just signed up for this coming summer! See everyone soon! RID: 21396

Click to report rating    10/21/07   4     4     3     3     1   Although this camp was way fun, it was nowhere near worth the money, as can be seen with the quality of the food. Also, the staff puts on air of responsibility, but being friends with some of the counselors, I know it's different. Anyway, it was fun when I went. Too many rules though. I mean, isn't the point of summer camp to have a summer fling? Go there if you don't really care about the activities and just want to meet cool people, but don't go there for the arts or the sports. Click to report rating    7/15/07   5     3     5     5     5   I LOVED my summers spent at MOL, absolutely my favorite place in the world. The owners have changed since I went there (Jay Stager was absolutely the man and it's a shame they lost him), however I heard the new owner is good as well. I can't speak with 100% certainty as to how the camp is now, as I haven't been there in a few summers, but I'll go by what I experienced. A wonderful, open, fun, creative enviroment that encourages individuality over conformity (the 1st camp I went to had uniforms, so this was new to me). Great arts camp, so many new things to try (duck tape art, metal jewlery, candle making, etc.) The only thing that is important to know is that the rules they do have they are very strict about (there is a no PDA rule that they take very seriously). I watched multiple people get kicked out for things as innocent as kissing, so if this is a problem, don't go here. Other than that, MOL is awesome, even now i consider it my home away from home. The girls I met there are like my sisters and we keep in touch weekly (even after seven years). It's sad that the camp sold this last summer, but I'm hoping it will keep the magic it's had since 1967. Click to report rating    9/7/06   5     4     5     5     5   I've been to about ten camps, including sleep away and day, and Med-o-lark was the best by far. They have a great staff who really cares about the campers, a really warm atmosphere, and fabulous activities. The activities in the arts are especially good. The only downsides is Med-o-Lark is very secluded, and in a very small town and the camp is not 50-50 boys and girls, but more like 20 or 30% boys and the rest girls. RID: 2931
