4/7/14   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Pontiac is a wonderful camp! My son had a great experience there. He tried so many new and exciting activities. Each day he did something different like woodworking, bungee, and arts and crafts. He absolutely LOVES the sports at Pontiac. The training and electives have made him a more confident player especially at home. We are looking forward to another amazing summer at Pontiac!!! RID: 47148

4/1/14   5     4     4     2     2   The counselor experience: When all is said and done, this camp is exactly what you make of it. Yes, some of the kids you watch are incredibly ill-mannered and have no real concept of value. But you have to remember they're just a product of their environment and at the end of the day they're children. If you put in the time and effort, they respond to it and become tangible. You'll see them on previously unseen level. Yes, I found the parent tours a little dramatic but it is a business. The owners aren't trying to entertain your kids for you all summer for free. So why wouldn't they try to present that in the best possible light? Apart from that, you get to meet alot of great people from all around and spend all summer bonding with them. You form friendships. You become close. You learn that camp pontiac is a world of its own, an unforgettable experience. I do think its ridiculous that they charge you exuberantly to take you to places on your day off though. Do something about that. RID: 47113

4/1/14   5     5     5     5     5   My son is 10 years old and will be going to Camp Pontiac for his second summer. In fact, our 7 year old will be going for the first time this summer as well. Camp Pontiac provided our son the most incredible summer experience. The facilities are top notch. Our son is very athletic and Pontiac provided him with an appropriate level of instruction, play and competition. The staff is unbelievable. They are caring, comforting and fun! Our son grew an amazing bond with old and new friends, as well as his counselors. He talks about camp all year round and cannot wait to return to Pontiac this summer! RID: 47109

3/31/14   5     5     5     5     5   My sons will tell you that Camp Pontiac is the BEST place on earth. They consider Camp Pontiac their summer home. At the end of each summer, my sons come home from camp being more responsible, respectful and aware of the world around them. In regards to the activities - the sports instruction is second to none but Pontiac also has so many other activities besides sports - such as outdoor adventure, arts & crafts, cooking, performing arts, an amazing water park & so much more. The professional staff works hard to do their best to make each camper shine so each campers feels good about themselves. Since this camp is owned by 2 doctors, it is a comfort to know that all Pontiac campers have access to the best on site medical care. As a parent, I am so grateful to Pontiac for building this amazing safe environment with a nurturing culture that has given my boys an experience that will be part of them always. RID: 47104

3/12/14   5     5     5     5     4   Camp Pontiac is hands down, the best. It has a great environment and is a very welcoming place. I have made so many memories there that will last a lifetime and I have met some of my best friends there. Yes, being a counselor is not an easy job, but you get out what you put in. If you are having fun, so are the campers. They look up to their counselors so much and it makes you realize why you are there. I plan on going back as long as I am able to because I can't imagine my summer spent any other way. It is a beautiful place filled with wonderful, caring people. When the time comes, I will most definitely send my children to Camp Pontiac. RID: 47028

3/10/14   5     5     5     5     4   I have been a counselor at Camp Pontiac for two summers now and fully intend on returning this summer as well! It is amazing how easy it is to bond with the campers and staff and how quickly it comes! This job was a blessing for me and these are times I will never forget. Being a counselor is hard work but it is all very worth it. Camp Pontiac has excellent directors, senior staff, counselors, and campers! I 100% believe it is a privilege to work at such a place!  7/19/12   3     3     2     1     1   Well i was a counselor here this summer, and I just quit because I could not handle how the directors and the kids treated me. These kids pay 10,000 to come here, which means they have maids at home and expect everything to be done for them. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life. I was called a **** almost everyday by the kids and all the directors care about is the money. Remember a camper is happy if the counselor is happy, which was never the case. A bunch of the people i met there, which i consider my close friends, are hating it there and are trying to get through because they need the money. When it comes down to it this camp is horrible. The kids are bratty, and all this camp is, is a business. So for all of you who are trying to be a part of this camp and want to apply, please think about it. I guarantee you will not have a good time, because it's not what you expect at all. Oh and the first week (orientation) all we did was paint and mulch which was not stated : RID: 41783

1/29/11   5     4     1     1     1   This is for people who want to work at CP: if you have barely any personality, you like not having any control of your life, and you want to have nine year old kids walk all over you, this is the camp for you! if you want to have a great camp experience with campers who are genuinely excited about the opportunity to be at camp, keep looking. We were not allowed to discipline the children, no matter the OUTRAGEOUS things they said or personal insults they threw. You are there to serve children at a spa for teenagers. Expect nothing more and you will enjoy your two month experience as an indentured servant. RID: 34971

8/11/10   3     4     2     2     1   I worked at this camp and I must say they pitch a good game. The BIG thing about this camp is the Marketing they are to competitive kids should go to camp to have fun not be forced to do things that they don't have a choice in. This camp is a SPORTS camp which if your a jock would be great for you if not than it may not be for you. Also the staff try hard to do their jobs but it is not easy when they are charged for everything from washing their clothing to paying to get someplace on their days off which is why the staff has a lack of caring approach to them. As a former staff member I would say to others make sure that you keep looking for other camps if you need the money otherwise your going to be spending more than you make here. As far as the kids they are wild because they have no restrictions to them. I would not send my kids here nor would I send anyone else. I would say keeping searching the camp is too big and the owners and directors have a lack of knowledge. RID: 33695

1/13/10   5     5     5     5     5   This was my first summer working at Pontiac after 3 summers at a different camp. The only word that can describe this place is AMAZING! The cabins are nicer than most houses, and the fields and equipment are top notch. There are so many activities to do that it seems impossible to be bored. It's the perfect balance between sports and non-sports activities (80% sports). You can really see the quality in everything the camp has to offer. No cutting corners on anything. The staff is great! They have a high ratio of counselors to campers so no kid goes unnoticed. The directors are some of the best people I have ever met. You can tell how much the Etras' care about everyone. It's hard to find anything negative to say about Camp Pontiac. But if I had to try, I would say that the evening activities need improvement. They are directed towards the younger kids and the older campers lose interest sometimes. RID: 31883

11/28/09   3     2     2     2     3   Although I came home from Pontiac nearly four months ago I still catch myself grumbling about my experiences as a camp counselor here. The campus is gorgeous, but who hasn’t heard the expression ‘you can’t judge a book by its cover’? …the same applies to summer camps. The negativity of my experience arose mainly with the lack of discipline taken with the children. I kid you not; we were NOT allowed to punish the kids in anyway… besides taking away their candy, that they “weren’t supposed to have anyway” …even if they were screaming in your face. I’m sorry but I have not, nor will I ever, let a ten year old think they have authority over me. Some of my co-counselors were treated as slaves, called servants, and had to succumb to other verbal abuses from children. There were a few gems among the (um) others, and they made this experience worthwhile – but those others will keep me as far away from Copake, NY as possible for the rest of my life. RID: 31639

6/27/09   2     3     2     2     1   Although you may look at this camps site and see all these beautiful places/facilities, it really does nothing by way of a camp experiance. Most of the staff are nice, although some take the job of their responsibility to taking care of the campers very lightly, however the managers of the camp, kenny, ricky, mark, etc. are just creeps. People are Jappy, even the guys. On visiting day, the parents bring thousands of dollars worth of candy, water, gifts, just to get them through the short 21 remaining days. It wasn't the worst three summers of my life, but there are many, many reasons why this camp is not some place to send your children. Tuition is 8,500 and on the rise, not to mention the 300-1000 the camp makes you pay on trips and other luxeries, such as buying food at the "ice cream parlour." If you do send your kid there, GOOD LUCK. RID: 30238

4/17/09   4     5     4     2     3   While I liked working at Pontiac, I'm going to have to agree with most of the negative comments here. Pontiac is a beautiful place to spend your summers. The Etras really do care about your child's safety and enjoyment of camp. However, If you want your child to get personal attention, you might want to look at a smaller camp; the camper population here is massive. Staff for the most part are friendly, nice, and a majority are international. Many are inexperienced and don't know how to deal with your hyper-active and/or problematic child so just remember that when you send them here. Pontiac is great for tweens and teens but not really for 6-9 year olds who are more restricted then the older campers. Food and activities here is pretty decent. And finally, I think the Etras should really consider getting reusable plates and a Hobart dishwasher instead of creating waste. They should also find a more effective way to serve food at meals. All in all Pontiac is a good camp with both +/-'s RID: 29510

Click to report rating    2/13/09   3     5     5     2     3   In this bad economy why must they take the 6th grade girls and boys on an overnight trip to Lake George and charge the parents an additional $360 plus spending money, when we pay good money for our kids to be at camp for the 49 days? Aren't we paying enough in tuition?? I think it is very inconsiderate of the owners to add additional costs to this already high tuition and they should appreciate that some families are at their financial limit in order for their kids to spend a summer at their camp!! Click to report rating    1/3/09   4     5     4     3     2   This will be my 5th year coming up. There are many hits and misses. Yes, its true. All Kenny and Ricky care about is the money. We do put on a show on the weekends for the tour. But I think they should do tours on weekdays when they can really see us. But, they also care about us, the campers. The girls are jappy, and if thats not your thing, than you should not go there. Some councilors are amazing and some are not. At our camp, as you get older, you get more freedom. If your camper cant handle that, than the shouldn't go to camp. But ya know what, I'm gonna go back. Because the bonds you make at camp are the bonds you keep for life. RID: 28328

PEOPLE GET LIVES. don't go online to trash a camp. so what maybe camp isn't for you... that's fine... but this summer will be my sixth and i wait 10 months for 2. yeah. some people get a little obnoxious at times, YOU'RE LIVING WITH THEM FOR TWO MONTHS. this camp is soooooo much nicer than any other camp out there. there is a perfect balence of activites. i made some amazing friends here and there is nothing that ANYONE can say to tear us apart... i saw some comments that say mostly long island people... SO WHAT?! is there a problem ??? the girls and boys are all willing to meet new people... no matter who you are you can always find a friend at camp. "cause this is the place that brings us together memories we made will always remember close to my heart now and forever... ALWAYS BE WITH ME" i love my camp pontiac family. RID: 28313

Click to report rating    11/13/08   4     5     4     4     5   I'm getting ready to go for my sixth year at Camp Pontiac, and knowing Kenny and Ricky as personal friends, everyone is saying lies about them. Sure, they didn't save a kid from dying, but you can see that they are flying around camp making sure everything is going smoothly and all of the staff behind Pontiac work so hard to make everything work right. Sure, there are flaws in the camp. Everything in life has flaws. But every second of every day, they try to fix those flaws and Pontiac is the place to send your chid because unbreakable bonds are created at Pontiac and that is something you will never find anywhere else in an American camp. Click to report rating    11/8/08   3     4     2     2     2   I myself was a counselor for the 2008 summer. The camp itself does have great facilities, but summer camp should not focus on just that. The camp is pretty much a big show. For visiting days everyone is prompted on how everything needs to be perfect. Its a completely different atmosphere. The kids are always miserable, but for some reason they come back. Every day the kids complain and complain about how they hate being there. I can recall multiple incidents of counselors coming back to camp drunk, and nothing was done about it even though the owners knew it was going on. But if your into great facilities camp pontiac is the place for you. RID: 27385

Click to report rating    11/7/08   3     5     3     2     3   Less than happy. The owners and top management put on a good show for the parents, but are as phoney as a $3 bill!!! They care about the Etra name and nothing else. My son attended 2 summers, and what a mistake that was. They have too many kids and there staff is more concerned about their dates with one another than the kids. Marc is a terrible director, who is always more interested in being "right" than doing right by the children and their families. He is impossible to speak to, and only slightly less condisending than the Etras, who try to intimidate people into keeping quiet about problems within the camp. "What happens at Pontiac, stays at Pontiac" - that is if the owners and directors have their way! They lie. Beware!! You can find a much better camp and staff for your child - I did. RID: 27358

Click to report rating    8/29/08   5     5     5     5     5   My son just completed his second year at Pontiac. Contrary to the perception that Pontiac is just for athletes, it is equally as great for the non athlete. My son is not athletic and realized that most of the boys there are average in sports. While he did participate in some athletic activities, the majority of his time was spent in the theater, at woodworking, the model shop, outdoor adventure, photography and within their vast arts and crafts program. He loves Pontiac and we are so thankful to them for their exceptionally well rounded program. RID: 26184

Click to report rating    8/20/08   5     5     5     5     5   As a seven year camper, i have seen the changes this camp has undergone since my freshmen summer. The facilities and rules have changed, all to appease the younger group of incoming campers. However, the basic principles of the camp including a very professional counselor staff, a tight knit group led by a responsible groupleader who gets to know every camper on an individual basis. I have had the same groupleader for five summers and myself along with 20-25 kids moving on to our CIT summer consider him a brother to us as well as most of our camper staff. Don't listen to all of the negative comments from people that have had one bad experience. Take it from me, a veteran... there is no better place to spend your summer than camp pontiac. It is and will forever be my summer home. RID: 25892

Click to report rating    8/18/08   5     5     5     5     5   This was my son's first year at Pontiac. As a newcomer, we feared he might have trouble getting acclimated and making friends. However, this was not at all the case. The staff went out of their way to make sure that my son felt included and not at all like "the new kid". Each time I called the camp my call was returned in a timely fashion and I was accurately told about my son's progress. The facility is beautiful, the activities and level of instruction are top notch and the staff are incredible. Camp Pontiac will be my son's (and soon my daughter's as well) summer home for many many years to come. RID: 25810

Click to report rating    8/11/08   2     5     3     1     5   As a parent who just paid my 09 deposit to another camp, I felt compelled to contribute here. The characterizations of Pontiac, although somewhat accurate, are not fair and seem vindictive. All I can say is that if your child is more independent, can handle a camper population of 700-735, and doesn't need to be coddled or supported to participate in activities, this is a terrific choice. So much of what is presented on ridiculous day-long tours at Pontiac is really not true; but for bang for your buck, this is a great camp. Let's just put it this way. Your child needs to be stronger than you in order to go here. No follow-up to calls. The Drs. are more difficult to reach than the busiest corporate executives. Adminitrative staff & directors were surprisingly low-class for such an upscale camp. RID: 25580

Click to report rating    7/23/08   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is head and shoulders above the competition. The Doctor/owners are dedicated to the children and their camp experience. Their entire extended families, including pets, are in attendence for the summer sharing that same experience. Tuition money is plowed back into the facilities annually, and this year all of the bunks have been completely redone. The children absolutely love the food, the facilities, and the staff, and the trips are just wonderful. Those who complain about their experience at Pontiac have only themselves to blame. They would undoubtedly be unhappy wherever they go, as they have to take themselves along! It's easy to complain. It's much more difficult to get along with others. RID: 25055

Click to report rating    7/7/08   1     1     1     1     1   Ha Ha. The tale about the bee sting was true. The part about Kenneth and Richard saving the poor camper from death is purely fictitious. The truth is that neither of the Etra doctors were even on the campsite during the incident. They were out having a fancy dinner with other adult staff at the time. One nurse was left on the premises for 600 campers during free play! It was great that she came through (Phyllis I think was her name). It was my JC summer and that's how it really happened. Click to report rating    7/7/08   3     5     3     2     4   All in all, Pontiac is an outstanding camp. However, there is no question that the camp is now living off of the hard work of its staff from the early 2000's (many of whom are no longer there). Many negative comments posted contain hints of truth such as the owners being more concerned about marketing their 'baby' than taking care of the kids who are actually there, staff who are more worried about their evening plans than what happens during the day, and a clear lower-class teachers-mentality among Pontiac's directors. The sad truth is for the parents who are sending their campers to Camp Pontiac right now . . . the parents who WILL be sending their kids to Pontiac in '09 are far more important in the eyes of the Etra's than you. Click to report rating    7/6/08   3     4     2     2     1   I worked at this camp, and I quickly realized it wasn't the right place for me. The camp is huge, and the kids seemed unhappy with all the downtime in the daily schedule. Kids are supposed to get dirty at camp, have bon fires, and make their own s'mores. I felt more like a nanny than a camp counselor. The facilities are pretty amazing. The use of Styrofoam at every meal bothered me greatly (900 people time three meals a day adds up to a lot of waste). I'm a vegetarian, and there wasn't too many options besides salad and plain pasta. The treatment of the American Flag on the girls' side campus also bugged me. I wouldn't send a kid to this camp mainly because it did not feel like camp to me. Going to camp is all about getting away from technology and enjoying nature. There was none of this there. Plenty of soda machines and video games though. RID: 24619

Yeas the kids are brats but I've come to realize that they know no better. The camp is OVER CROWED and Kenny and Rick LIE on the tours and tell parents that there are many less kids then there are off by hundreds of kids. But your kids will make friends and will have a great time because truthfully its the quality of the staff every summer that makes the experience. The facilities are great and Kenny and Ricky do know how to run a fun safe camp, the only real main problem I have with the camp is the number of children there. RID: 22893

Click to report rating    4/9/08   3     3     2     1     1   I read this, and hate to admit it, but the bad is true. I was a counselor there, and EVERYTHING Ricky, Kenny and Wally did was about tours and marketing. As a sports head, I was instructed to have certain things out (expensive items) on tour dates. Ricky and Kenny were never to be seen, and when they did come out, they zipped around on a golf cart with a camera, posting pictures of themselves with your kids on the internet. Most of the kids sleep through periods, instead of going to instruction or games. The heads of sports really cared, but had no leadership from Wally, as all he cared about was basketball. This being said, DO NOT think it is different at other camps. Most camps market HARD, in an effort to grab your dollars for an experience. At least Pontiac has decent facilities and equipment, especially for basketball. Ricky and Kenny are phony when they say they 'love each child'. However, they are being truthful in giving your kids an experience they will remember. RID: 22123

So guess what just because we don't dress in clothes from old navy or target or Nike and buy our clothes from H&M and go abroad to Asia and Europe doesn't mean you can hate on us! They both love camp and have a great time, but I would not choose Pontiac again if I had it to do over again. As a parent,I have many issues with how the camp is run. I have a hard time spending 9000 dollars for 7 weeks of camp, only to have my kids have to pay each nite for ice cream.Camp is not a place for an arcade or a movie theater.I also do not expect to have to pay to email my kids. The directors do not enforce rules, because(I have been told)the parents are too difficult to deal with.DVD players are in the bunk and not confiscated, counselors accept tips- even though they are not supposed to and kids are allowed to bring cell phones to camp. The kids go on trips each summer which are only another money making opportunity. The facilities are great and my kids are happy which is the main thing, but there are other camps out there.I know that camp is a business, but this is over the top.I don't hear this about other camps in this price range. Click to report rating    1/6/08   3     5     3     1     1   After reading all of these posts I feel compelled to respond. I attended CP for nine summers. I started as a camper and moved on to be a counselor for 2 summers. My first couple of summers I absolutely hated it, but as I grew older, camp became better and better. Honestly, as a naive little camper it was the best place in the world; I formed lifelong friendships with some of these girls, and we are still in touch to this day. HOWEVER, camp has definitely changed since its hey day (around 2000-2005). This past summer (2007) had a completely different vibe. The owners treated the counselors awfully and neglected the campers because they were too busy touring and marketing the camp to potential customers. They even added an extra day of touring hoping to rake in a more cash for next summer. To parents deciding between camps: CP has unbeatable, pristine facilities, decent food, and for the most part caring staff, but the owners only think of you and your child as more $$$ in their pockets. The first year so many people didn't like me because i didn't own anything "prada" or "juicy" or "coach". I mean really, you go to camp to get AWAY from home. Going there is like going to a mall. The cash register people/ councelors don't care about you, they just make you buy your item/ this camp and get out when you're done. When I was little, they were all sitting on their beds and not helping anyone pack their bags! If there are parents reading this, take note of this..and don't send your kids to Camp Pontiac. People were saying negative things about the two owners. As a camper, I know that they are doctors who care about kids. From my point of view, they did their best to meet all the kids and make sure each kid was having a great summer. If you had seen the camp you would know that it must have cost them a pricey penny to build it. This shows they care. I don't see how having an ice cream parlor or a movie theater could possibly be a bad thing. For me, the only things that should change is the meals. They are not very good. For the price that my parents pay, I would expect better food. Since I started at Pontiac, I have made some of the best friends of my life and will always love Camp Pontiac. RID: 17561

7/29/07   4     5     4     5     5   If you gave Pontiac a 1 on facilities clearly you have never been there. The camp is spectacular, and the owners are currently putting the profits directly back into the camp as can be seen by the movie theater, regular theater, covered hockey rink, canteen and offices. In addition, all the bunks were redone for this year. The staff, especially group leaders and division heads have always been responsive to anything I have raised regarding either of my kids experiences there. As far as Long Island is concerned, not that I have anything against L.I., but my daughter only has 2 girls from L.I. in her bunk. The kids come from all over the tri-state region and Florida. The activities are organized and fun, there is something for just about anyone whether you like sports, arts and crafts, theater, dance, outdoor adventure, etc. Visiting Day is about the only day where there is any down time, and kids may hang around. The 5 years my kids have been going there have been a wonderful! RID: 13400

Click to report rating    6/22/07   2     2     2     1     2   It is a real LOng Island camp , the kids seem to like the camp, beacuse it is a big hang out place, no structure at all. The parents hate the place , as the owners are only interested in the $$$ , so don't forget to bring your wallets on visiting day they sell everything, including the water. When you arrive , they are trying to sell evrything, photos, ice cream, snacks etc.The word is that they raise prices in the canteen for the stupid parents on visting day and then they sell them water by the camp fire. I guess the owners count all the dollar bills when the parents leave and laugh all the way to the bank. The camp never fill up , if the have more kids that want to go they just build more bunks. I think they are up to 800 kids now, but they don't tell you that. So if you want your kids to hang out for the summer with all the long island kids its a great place. Good luck RID: 12340

Click to report rating    6/4/07   1     1     1     1     1   Camp is not "snobby" -- I think it would LIKE to be called that! haha! But it is NOT true. (The camp directors are posting that the kids are snobby -- they wish... Then, they say the camp is great haha!! You must see that these are posts from the camp directors.) "Snobby" means rich and discerning. In fact, it is so poorly run and is a LAST RESORT for many troubled kids/behavior problems. MANY OF KIDS WERE KICKED OUT OF OTHER CAMPS OR NOT ASKED BACK. That is their unspoken niche. But, where they should have specialists to work with kids whose ADD, etc. is out of control, they have teenagers who do not know how to treat or handle them. MAYHEM ENSUES. Snobby implies rich and discerning -- and that is NOT the way to describe the people at Pontiac. Low class and troubled kids with troubled families would be accurate. Anyone with troubled kids like that, who has any brains or class, knows they need REAL help -- not to dump them at Pontiac for babysitting. They are glad to know the RID: 11459

Click to report rating    5/5/07   4     5     3     1     1   Decent camp with great facilities but it's so huge it's almost unmanageable. Populated mostly by nasty, self-absorbed Long Island kids with nasty, self-absorbed parents, but there are a lot of exceptions to that. Directors are well-intentioned but completely phony. They spend so much time & effort on marketing and selling the place and producing promotional videos that they've forgotten how to run it, so they have to make stuff up and exaggerate because they don't know what's really going on. Take whatever they tell you on tour with a grain of salt; some of it is wishful thinking and some of it is just ridiculous. Dial it down about five notches and you'll get an idea of what camp is really like. Bottom line: Lots of great staff, kids & programs here, offset a bit by some nasty kids, phony directors and overblown sales pitch. RID: 10562

Click to report rating    5/3/07   1     1     1     1     1   As educators whose two grandchildren attended this camp for two summers, we were very distressed at what we observed on visiting day, as well as what our grandchildren told us about this camp. Frankly, it sounded like a very high-priced zoo! Spoiled, nasty children abounded. I'm happy to report that they are no longer attending this camp! RID: 10439

Click to report rating    3/6/07   4     5     4     3     4   CAMP IS A BUSINESS, A HUGE MONEY MAKING BUSINESS, ESPECIALLY FOR PRIVATE CAMPS LIKE PONTIAC AND OTHER HIGH END CAMPS. PONTIAC HAS GREAT FACILITIES, LAST YEARS STAFF WAS GREAT FOR THE MOST PART, AND MOST OF THE KIDS LOVE IT THERE. YES, THE FOOD COULD BE IMPROVED AND THE DIRECTORS COULD SPEND MORE TIME AND ATTENTION ON THE KIDS. MARKETING THE CAMP IS THERE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY, BUT LIKE I SAID BEFORE IT IS A BUSINESS!!! Click to report rating    2/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   It was my daughters first year there and she loved it!! I disagree with those who say the owners are not involved with the kids, I was shocked and amazed when on visiting day the director walked up to me and talked about my daughter! He knew who she was and had plenty to say. The counselors were great! The facilities are beautiful! Sleep away camp is not the FOUR SEASONS it is camp!! So get over it! Most of the children were wonderful, yes there are a few overpriviledged and self entitled kids but that is everywhere. So get over that too! Camp food is not supposed to be 5 stars but it is edible! I would recommend PONTIAC any day of the week. In fact I am sending my youngest there this year with no worries! RID: 7863

2/5/07   1     1     1     1     1   My family was very dissapointed with Pontiac after attending for a few summers. There wasn't much personal attention paid to the children. We got the feeling that the owners wouldn't know our children if they tripped over them! After the second dissapointing summer, we toured several other camps which offered just as good facilities but had a warmer environment. Would not recommend. RID: 7530

Click to report rating    2/1/07   1     1     1     1     1   A dismal camp. Turned out to be the complete opposite of what was "sold" to us during the "dog and pony show" that the owners put on during the camp visit. Massive and disorganized. Owners seemed more concerned with impressing the parents than focusing on the children. Incidences of neglegent counsellors abounded - several were dismissed halfway through camp. Would not recommend. RID: 7426

Click to report rating    12/12/06   1     1     1     1     1   it stinks. No one kept kids in line. It was all rest hour playing stupid video games in bunks, I lost 10 pounds from having nothing to eat. The camp was oriented around taking our money in vending machines and canteen. I had many items stolen including money and my counselors didn't care. Pools weren't fun. They were cold and no one in my division even wanted to go in. Lake was no better. The fields were covered in goose****. They had almost no instruction in anything. I will never go back to this so called camp. It was a rip-off!!!! RID: 5921

9/7/06   5     5     5     5     5   Amazing Camp. The people are awesome. I love Pontiac, have been here for many years, the kids are great and it's and all around good atmosphere. The Management is incredible. The Staff is Hot. The Sports Specialists this year were better than ever. Reading some of the last comments and they were written by some pretty ignorant people...that's not suprising as their are some pretty ignorant parents here...that's what you get when you have a multimillion dollar trophy wife sittin at home with nothing to do but flick her bean. Hope we have another good summer next year. This one's been the best yet, and with the new facilities flying up around here the next summer should be even better. Facilities go up faster at Pontiac than any other camp in the nation. RID: 2919

8/28/06   5     5     5     5     5   I was a camper at Pontiac from 1997 to 2005. I finished the entire 8 year cycle as a camper repeating my freshman year because I was too young to move on. Pontiac was always my home and each summer was another opportunity to make new friends and have a blast. The negative comments posted about Pontiac are comments that referred to the latest years of the camp's operation in which I felt the rules became a bit more than anyone could handle and the atmosphere of the entire campus changed. Pontiac was a great place but it has suffered from the owners insistence that bigger is better and tours are the most important thing. The counselors are great and the friends you make are friends you'll have for life. If you can look beyond the beauracracy of Pontiac you can find a place where the "music stops and our heartbeat rests on the mountain tops...away from the city I'll be back, away from the city Pontiac!" Click to report rating    3/20/06   5     5     5     5     5   My 8-year-old son had an incredible first sleep-away camp experience here. The staff is well-trained; the owners, being doctors, are extremely aware of safety and health issues; and there is a loving, warm feeling about the camp. Although there is excellent sports instruction, kids enjoy so many other activities and Pontiac is a well-rounded camp. RID: 40
