My (alomost 4 year old) daughter had the time fo her life at Roughing It Day Camp this past summer. The staff are wonderful role models and the variety of activites allows campers to experience a number of different things. Longer camp sessions gives campers the opportunity to expand upon skills/activites they are learning and true, lasting friendships are made. Convenient and easy for parents too - they offer transportation from home and/or central pick up locations all around the Bay Area and free extended day programs too! The BEST camp around. 40 years in business really shows. |

I went to this camp myself for 7 years, and then worked there as a JC for one. The camp helped me open myself up and really taught me alot about children and how they are raised in very different families and all manage to somehow come together and form a group. The camp was amazing, you play all day long, and sing songs that the whole camp sings to, I still know every word of the songs and it has been years. I loved everything about the camp and cried when I left. It is completely worth every penny. |

If your child is sensitive this camp will not be a good choice. With the combination of broiling hot east bay temperatures, the lack of shelter and the school bus transportation to swimming facilities in a neighboring town, kids have to be pretty tough. Even though the camp prides itself on its length of time in business, we found the staff showed a surprising lack of knowledge about kids and communications with parents. |

I attended Roughing It as a camper, Jr. Counselor and counselor and loved every minute of it. Roughing It has played a really important part in making me who I am. It has taught me a love of nature, the outdoors, children, leadership... Ann and Hobie are so dedicated to what they do. I am truly grateful for the lessons I learned there, the people I met, and the fun I had. I am definitely planning on sending my own children there as soon as they're old enough! If you are looking for a place to send your child to attend day camp in the Bay Area, Roughing It is the best. It is as close to a residential camp as you can get. The kids spend the entire day outside, PLAYING. No amusement parks, field trips, or just hanging out. It is organized games, activities and experiences. |
