Click to report rating    8/1/13   5     4     5     5     5   Wildwood is an amazing camp, although the facilities are not as expensive and flaunting as some other more expensive camps, the spirit, energy, and heart of Wildwood is something priceless that is so much more important than the things money can buy. Wildwood is a place where kids aren't pressured to be the best at everything or to be the most athletic, it is a place to relax with he best friends you will ever make. The spirit energy and heart of Wildwood is really what sets the camp apart. RID: 45465

Click to report rating    7/27/13   5     4     4     5     4   My son has attended this camp for three summers. He loves it. At drop off, we noticed lots of returning staff this year. Overheard two older boys remark how Wildwood "feels like home." All signs if a wonderful thriving camp! RID: 45394

Click to report rating    7/15/13   4     3     4     4     4   Wildwood is not a fancy camp. You can go to camps with nicer facilities, more directed activities (like horseback riding, etc.) but this is a great camp for the money (it is much less than many of the other overnight camps in New England). If you value your child being around sincere, nice people, then this is the camp for you. The emphasis is on learning about the environment, and how to protect it -- but there is a lot of fun too (ropes courses, sailing, archery, etc.). The counselors are smart and fun (most of them college students, some from Europe) and despite the lack of comfort (many of the campers have to stay in dark and not very big platform tents, the bathrooms and showers are very basic) the kids who go love it. They are working on upgrading the facilities, and that is helping. The bottom line is that the camp's site is lovely, beautiful woods, near Mt Monadnack, where the kids hike and camp, they provide a structured, fun environment and the kids make lasting friendships.  9/17/12   5     5     5     5     5   As I was looking at the bad ratings, I noticed that they all came from around the same time. And even though I absolutely love this camp, I have to admit that it did go through a bit of a dark time during the recession. It was still fun and a great experience, but you could tell that money was tight. During activities, the counselors tried to preserve materials, we always ran out of tape at arts and crafts, and the food wasn't all that good. But this camp is returning to what it used to be. The food is way better this year, with the hiring of a new cooking staff, the activities were better, and throughout my sessions, they had contractors come and look at all the buildings, so it is clear that they are planning to build better facilities. Also, the core group of conselors who return year after year helped with a lot of the planning this year, so the activities were better because they know what the campers like. This dedication is what sets this camp apart from others. Its amazing!!!! RID: 42695

Click to report rating    8/25/12   5     5     5     5     5   Wildwood is amazing it's the best camp ever in the entire universe. It doesn't get better, good food, Great staff and even better friends. You have the chnse to be in natures, but still feel like you're near civilization. Their are programs for families and teens alike, plus it's a place you can spend every summer at from the time your 9 to the time your 18. I would recommend it to anyone. RID: 42500

Click to report rating    8/24/12   5     5     5     5     5   I can't think of any better way to spend two (or more) weeks. The staff is enthusiastic and awesome, the activities are creative and fun, the living conditions are a great way to make new friends, the food has greatly improved with the removal (or at least disguise) of eggloaf, and the campground itself is magnificent and peaceful. However, to fully enjoy Wildwood, you need to want to be at Wildwood. With the right mindset, Wildwood can make any summer the perfect summer. -Josh RID: 42492

Click to report rating    8/24/12   5     5     5     5     5   Best camp ever!!! I have been going since my first year in Carson and this year I was an LIT. Now the facilities might not be perfect and every camp has problems but you will never develop stronger relationships than you will at Wildwood. I have truly made life long friendships here. Most are even stronger than people that live by me. I love Wildwood!!! <333333 It's suave (inside joke) RID: 42490

Click to report rating    8/24/12   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp! I have been going for 4 years now (as a Fossey, Dillard, and LIT camper). It has it's flaws, but is a great environment, free of technology and a nice sanctuary from the hectic world. Wildwood has helped shape me as a person and is my favorite place on Earth. I have made lifelong friends, had many great life experiences, and learned a lot about myself. The LIT program could use some improvment, but I highly recommend it to campers who would like to continue going to Wildwood after they have aged out of the camper program. I love Wildwood! Click to report rating    7/26/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going to this camp for several years and love it. I was really surprised to see negative comments because it is such a wonderful place. It is a great place to go if you want to be outside, connect with and meet new people, and be unplugged from everyday life. I would recommend it to everyone. I really learned a lot about my self there. Wonderful, caring staff as well, which is a plus! LOVE WILDWOOD!! RID: 42111

1/5/12   1     1     2     1     1   Wildwood was a living H3ll. the food was disgusting, even the counslors complained, the counslors were mostly mean and grumpy. They had this rule that you couldn't go anywhere without a buddy, even to the bathroom at the dining hall. That, by the way, is the only flush toilet in the camp. But you couldn't really use it because it was only separated by a thin wall to the girlz toilet, so you felt all self-concious. On the overnight 2 mt. Monadnoch they gave us just a teeny sandwich (2 breads and a peice of meat or cheese) at the top. We all wanted to eat each other. They claim to be a nature camp, but it's not really, except a few nature activities. save your money. Ps the beds are uncomfortable and its very dumpy. RID: 37649

9/24/11   5     5     5     5     5   I love wildwood. The staff there always great. They're really cool and responsible, but not like parents, more like older siblings. They don't care if you forget your table manners or play a few pranks, but they keep you from doing dangerously stupid things. They care about you and they want to be your friend. The faciliteis are deffinitley rustic, so if you can't stand camping, using port-a-potties, or spiders, than don't come here because you will be miserable. But I like that kind of stuff so I love it there. The activites are great. The website goes on and on about teaching you about the natural world, and they could if you wanted them to, but we mostly just have fun. Personal attention is great, the staff take the time to notice how you feel and help you if you feel less than perfect. I've never been homesick there, but if I did, I know I would be in great hands. Wildwood is a great camp, and I can't imagine a better place to spend my summers with all my camp friends. RID: 36972

4/26/11   2     1     2     1     2   I hate to do this because I love Mass Audubon in general, but we were disappointed with this camp. My daughter had done a few other overnight camps, doesn't get homesick, and generally has enjoyed them all...except this one. Staff were nice but did not effectively attend to behavior problems. Facilities are poor unless you want to rough it, but for the money, this should have been more than roughing it. Portapotties, tents, uncomfortable bunks, poor cafeteria food. I like that they teach them to reduce environmental footprint, but time limit on shower made it impossible to shower -- by the time she got in and turned the water in she was told time was up. Very little personal attention, and nature teaching was minimal and extremely basic. If your kid already knows a lot about nature, he/she won't learn anything new here, unless he is aggressive about seeking out staff. Would not recommend this camp. RID: 35745

3/18/09   1     2     2     1     1   It is a hard camp to work at, but from a camper perspective I bet it is a lot of fun if you really like science and unpredictable activities. The staff tries as hard as they can, but the directors do very little to help. You are pretty much just on your own once you get hired and the returning staff has to train you. Kevin sleeps all day and Caroline has her hands full with literally everything. There is only one working toilet on camp property and the rest are latrines and portapotties. Also, many of the staff members are not skilled for the areas they are staffed in. Lifeguards tend to not be really good at swimming and proper safety precautions are not taken at other places. If the directors worked a little harder I think it would be a great camp. RID: 29301

Click to report rating    3/12/08   4     4     5     5     5   Best camp ever!!! went my first year with two friends. Their moms made them drop out though. went one year without any friends then anther one of my friends joined. Next year, I'm going with two friends: the one that joined my third year and one that was friends with me in the begining. It is a really good camp and even though there are a lot of bugs, it has lots of fun activities like the water front of the ropes course RID: 21210

Click to report rating    3/1/08   4     2     4     3     4   It was nice but I didn't really want to go back, because it didn't feel like a camp you're excited about going back to. Also there was this guy who pranked us and he stole our mattresses and went through our stuff and and squirted water all over our stuff. I also felt homesick. But most of the people were nice. But there were lots and lots of mosquitos. The food was good. The problem was we slept in tents and it was freezing and there were lots of mosquitos and no lights. And there were really bad bathrooms. There was only one flushing toilet for the girls. The garlic bread I would recomend. The girls in fossy(our unit) were nice but there were big spiders(ahhhhhhhhhhhh) which got on our clothes(ahhhhhhhhhhhh again). But maybe this camp would be better for someone other then me. The activities were fun.Good bye! RID: 20824

Click to report rating    10/18/07   5     4     5     5     5   this is such a great camp! i loved it so much! the counselors and other campers are so fun and caring, and all the activities were usually pretty fun. i love the camping trip we take and i love living in a tent with a bunch of great girls for 2 weeks on such a wonderful lake in new hampshire. in response to the person who wrote about her/his child disliking the porto-potties, well, it is a mass audubon camp, of course they're going to have composting toilets and not flush toilets! most of the groups are focused on environmentalism and WATER CONSERVATION. this is the best camp ever! Click to report rating    8/19/07   5     3     5     5     4   Daughter had fun, but tired of using a porta-potty all week. For the money, seems they could have flush toilets. Also, for 13yo girls, not enough shower time scheduled. RID: 14202
