3/31/11   1     4     4     2     5   I loved attending Skylark Ranch as a kid. I started going there in 3rd grade and went all the way though the CIT program. Their activies are well planned and very great for the girls. Also, for a summer camp in California, it is pretty inexpensive. My main problem with Skylark is their staff. It is not a huge secert that Skylark's hiring process is horrible leaving people who could be really great camp staff members going someplace else. Also, they have up to 35 girls in a unit with 6 staff members and by the end of the week, your kid's counselor might not even know her name. RID: 35513

Click to report rating    12/31/10   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter attended a Pony Tails session in summer 2010. She had an amazing time. She noted how much she loved her counselors in her unit - Bug especially. She did get a little homesick and started crying. As a good (smart) distraction one of her counselors took her out on a trail ride, just the two of them. This lifted her spirits dramatically. I know my daughter and distractions work well for her. She ate well, no complaints. It is true one day she didn't want what was served so she had PB&J instead. My daughter cannot wait to return to Skylark and I have to say I was very impressed with the facilities: new shower house, dining hall, horse country, etc. My only issue was sleeping arrangements: 4 girls together and counselors are in separate quarters, but nearby. They had a deer poke it's head in and some raccoons wander through, that alone concerns me a tad. Of course not sure if she was embellishing. Do expect them to come home sleepy, it's a 7-day slumber party. RID: 34650

7/16/10   3     5     5     3     5   Nice place with very neat activities, but some of the counselors were mean to me and my homesick friend. The food was good, but one night they did not have enough "camp out pizza" and I went to bed hungry! Not very well planned menu. Key skills for Girl Scouts - planning and organization. I loved the horses, but prefer to go to camp Loma Mar now even with NO horse riding. RID: 33361

9/3/09   5     5     4     5     5   Like most other reviewers in this list, my daughter, age 9, had a great time at Skylark Ranch. She went in August and attended the Mermaid Lagoon session. I highly recommend this one if you want your daughter to to have a short overnight camp experience for the first time going to camp. My daughter loved all 5 of her counselors, said the food was good, loved the activities and will go again and for longer. If your daughter is open-minded and ready to try new things, she will most likely have a great time. RID: 30898

7/3/09   2     3     3     1     3   My daughter had the worst camp experience ever. The counselors were mean. She got very sick and they refused to get her help. They did not set expectations adequately about the program (please, please parents - get more information than the brochure). Kids were punished for not eating their food (fish pizza) and humiliated for other infractions. One child was vomiting for two days and a parent was not called. The kids were told if they went home, no refunds! Tell me a child that even is aware of a refund policy - how inappropriate. I trusted the Girl Scouts as a brand and organization and I am extremely angry that all this happened. I understand others have had good experiences and that's great. I simply encourage parents to get more information before sending their child to this horrible place. RID: 30308

5/3/09   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is the BEST!! I went there for over 5 years as a child and now will be returning to work there. Everyday they will make your daughter feel like a superstar. The staff is amazing and the food is great! I did the advanced horseback riding programs and always had the best time! Camp has truly shaped me into the person I am today. I have confidence and self esteem that would have been non-existent without this camp. The lessons learned here forever change you. I LOVE this camp and am honered to be able to work there this summer. Staff is put through rigorous interviews and managment makes sure that staff is always on thier best behavior. Do not ask if you should send your daughter to this camp...ask WHEN! Skylark ROCKS! ~~Peanut RID: 29650

4/9/09   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE Skylark Ranch!! I went for the first time when I was 11 years old, and I've 2 times since. Last year I took a break from it, but I'll be sure to go this summer! The staff are fun and welcoming and the whole thing is like being at a second home, having a sleepover with your best friends everyday! I'm not a girl scout, but I didn't matter because everyone is welcome there! I made so many amazing friends and I wish that I could stay there forever. It's just like paradise! The weather, girls, adventures. The whole thing was a big confidence booster for me too, I felt like after going there by myself and doing all I did, I could do Anything!! I wish I could stay here forever-period. The food, staff, activities, all is GREAT! RID: 29457

Click to report rating    9/20/07   5     5     5     5     5   Oh my goodness, i went there looking for something to do for a week and i found so much more than what i was expecting. My counselors were so awesome! I made friends almost immediately, the activities kept me going through everything. The food was so good! The horses were so well-behaved, I even learned how to vault! But my favorite part had to have been the hike to inspiration point! RID: 15489

Click to report rating    3/19/07   5     5     5     5     5   I've been going to Skylark since I was first going into second grade, and I've gone for about eight years now. You have the BEST experiences of your life there. I've met the greatest people, had the greatest times, and really grow as a person while I'm there. It's amazing what a week at camp can do for you. I still keep in touch with campers I met years ago and love going back year after year. It's a great value, too. I definitely recommend it. RID: 8804

Click to report rating    12/5/06   5     5     5     5     5   I have been a camper, a CIT, and a counselor at Skylark Ranch. I sent my daughter there starting at age seven and she went every summer while growing up, including being in the CIT program. She, too, was a counselor at Skylark. There is something very magical about the place. It's hard to explain and really should be experienced: close to the ocean and in the redwood forest. I attended many camps as a girl scout and none of them had the same sense of magic that Skylark had for myself and my daughter. RID: 5714

Click to report rating    8/9/06   5     5     5     5     5   Im a staff member at skylark, but I was also a C.I.T at one point. This place is truly my home, and i hope that every camper is able to enjoy atleast some of the impact that it had on me. I hope that it helps to shape them, like it has helped to shape me into the person i am today. Skylark is nothing but good times, great people, and living life to the fullest..From Vaulting to surfing to archery, it offers a great variety of programs that can encourage the youth of tomorrow.
