Click to report rating    7/13/13   3     3     2     1     1   My son attended and it was his first basketball camp (although he just finished 8th grade). There seems to be little instruction or personal attention. Mostly game play... And on the last day there were no basketball activities for his team since they didn't make the playoffs (I'm on site witnessing that). Seems like about half the campers had no basketball activity at all on the last day.... Don't understand that. RID: 45141

Click to report rating    1/18/13   4     5     5     4     4   My son has been going to the Jim Calhoun Camp for three years and says he wants to go again this year. While improving his basketball skills - he has learned how to be a TEAM player. He met new friends who have been coming back year after year just like him. The dorms are clean and the food has enough selections for even picky eaters like my son. RID: 43425

Click to report rating    1/16/13   4     4     5     5     5   I sent my son to this camp last year and he had a great time. We were looking for a Basketball intensive camp and that is what we found. There is a fair amount of listening to lectures but my son came away enjoying the talks and said that they were all pretty motivational to him. He spent the rest of the summer working on the drills he learned in our driveway and actually made the High School freshman team which was a surprise for us. We are definitely going to send him back this upcoming summer. RID: 43409

Click to report rating    1/16/13   4     5     4     4     4   We sent our son to the Calhoun Camp last year. He was thrilled! He went with two other boys from his middle school team. They had great fun and learned a ton - and got to play in Gampel Pavilion. He's going back for both sessions this year. RID: 43408

Click to report rating    8/16/12   3     5     3     2     2   Despite hearing about items that were questionable we signed our son up. Its a lot of basketball with some the excitement of some player presence. Jim Calhoun was out recruiting the first year. Supervision was just fair and coaching level was OK but not great. This year there was a change in the schedule due to NCAA. Read the fine print as this camp is business venture and they hold tight to their cancellation policy. I have seen several camps that offer a higher level of instruction. RID: 42398

Click to report rating    6/29/12   3     2     2     3     1   I paid $550 for my son to attend this camp and come back with some new learned skills, well he had fun and met new friends but didnt learn anything. All they did was play pick up games 95% of the time. Im a bit disappointed. He could've stayed home for free and played in his summer league if I knew how this camp was. Also the dorms were very small and smelly. They were lectured way too much and the food was terrible. The coaches were college student volunteers. I watched on day 1 as they played pick up game after pick up game. The kids just practiced bad habits. All though my son made All Stars, he will never go back. Im sending him to 5 Star to see how that is. So save your money and search for a good skills camp for your kid. RID: 41495

Click to report rating    6/13/12   4     4     4     4     4   Overall, good camp. Not sure about the experience of the other reviewers, but my son liked it enough to want to go back the next year. Interesting experience for younger kids to sleep in a dorm, eat in a college cafeterial, etc. RID: 41296

2/3/12   1     1     1     1     1   This camp is terrible. I went there last year thinking it was going to be amazing, and when I got there, I didn't learn anything. All I learned is that its a terrible a camp. Counselors tell you how bad you are and eavesdrop on your dorm room at night. You have to walk at least a mile to facilities outside your dorm. The food is terrible, and if you get homesick, counselors won't do anything. You listen to boring speeches everyday for multiple hours and sit around most of the time. The staff wouldn't help anyone. They would demotivate you and make fun of you (they are college students). They swear at you too, and watch**** during "motivational" speeches. You don't even get to meet the players except for a couple. The showers are freezing and everything is extremely dirty, especially the dorms. You play basketball for about 2 hours during each day. It wasn't worth the money one bit. I warn you, do not go to this camp!!! RID: 40259

Click to report rating    7/10/09   2     1     1     1     4   Whatever you do DO NOT go to this camp. First of all this places facilities are dirty and filthy. There are NO janitors. Second of all the counselors are terrible. They treat you like dirt. They curse at you and tell you how bad you are at basketball. Third of all this camp is as strict as military camp. If you dont sit up strait while a counselor is speaking you can get sent home. Fourth of all you SIT DOWN AND LISTEN TO LECTURES AND HOW BAD YOU ARE for 5 HOURS of the day. Fifth of all the food is terrible and if you lose your card you cant eat and you get fined 100 dollars. Sixth of all you walk very far to your courts. The courts range from 1 mile to 2 miles away from the dorms. You might of heard that at this camp all you do is basketball well that is a lie all you do is SIT AROUND. Overall i would rate this camp out of 1-10 a negative 5. This was the worst experience of my life. Oh and if you talk while a counselor is talking you will have to sprint around the b-ball court 5 times RID: 30369
