The science part of the camp is terrific. The students who are the counselors are terrific. The director tries to run a good camp, but not the most compassionate of people. The camp is almost draconianly anal. It is popular with the largely elite Upper West Side parents for the school/camp's supposed ability to bestow intellectual prowess on Supposed Super Kinder--Hollingworth Camp for Kids of Ambitious Parents is more like it. This makes it hard to get in. I.e., applying requires a parent racing forms from camp to kids' schools and back. Getting in is easier for older grades, but if you have a K or 1, expect to arrive on sign-up day at 5:00 a.m. and find a line. Once in, expect lots of lengthy, redundant forms to fill out with a rigid schedule for when they should be returned. Everthing at camp is anal/rigid. Beware: There is a no-nit policy, which is a glorious idea, but costs upwards of $180 per child for professional treatment. Little outdoor time for kids. Swimming is good.
