Toured camp with great friends whose daughter was attending just before my daughter was old enough. Ahead of Covid put daughter on “perpetual” waitlist. Fast forward, paid again after Covid & she was still on waitlist and was reminded when I called it was perpetual and she would get in the next summer. Followed up in August as directed. She was still on waitlist. Received an email end of September that maybe she would move off waitlist in November. Next summer is the last year her friends would attend. The “perpetual” waitlist is like dangling a carrot on a string which is just out of reach. Wish I had never taken my young child to visit this camp as they were misleading about their waitlist. The person who telephoned me today about my email seeking clarification on how daughter was still waitlisted was unprofessional and not Christ-like; I am embarrassed for her tone as a leader of the business. My friend is withdrawing her daughter and our children will attend another camp together.

I went to Greystone 3 times as a child. There were aspects of it I absolutely loved and am still wistful about. The grounds were just spectacular and exactly as rustic as you dream a summer camp to be. Warm days in nature with a cool lake and summer breezes. I loved the activities. Unlike at home, at Greystone I was free to choose what I wanted to learn... archery, riflery, ceramics, horseback riding, etc. There were so many options and tons of variety. HOWEVER, they shoved Christianity down my throat. I was raised going to church, but even then it was too much. Creepy enforced singing and dressing in all white and constant prayers and sermons. I hated it. Also the diversity was NIL. There was a very defined image of what a girl should be. Campers were very cliquey. Describing it as the country club of camps is spot-on. I hope to find a secular camp for my own children that still has the benefits and feel of Greystone's mountain cabins. I'm on the lookout and would love suggestions.

Greystone is a beautiful camp with some of the best facilities of any camp anywhere. It is often referred to as a country club camp. There is very little diversity at Greystone and if you are not a white, Christian, upper-middle class family, your daughter may struggle to find her people there. However if you fit the profile and are looking for all the whistles and bells in a summer program, Greystone may be your place.

My problem is with the main camp director. It's odd to me that Laura Hollowell disciplines coldly. People shut down when yelled at etc. Yet rather than pull someone aside, she chastises them. I remember doing something odd in the line waiting to get food (mind you, I was 10 or 11 years old), and she pulled me aside and said, "this is what your father does at family camp, that's not appropriate behavior." Firstly, what child wants to hear how their parent behaved poorly. Secondly, don't you think she could have said that differently? Or could have been more compassionate and empathetic to a child? There are ways to correct someones behavior. But this clearly was not appropriate.

I went to greystone for four years, and while I enjoyed my time at camp, I do not regret leaving. This camp is extremely cliquey and most of the girls are from the south and already know each other. I was able to make friends, though most of the girls are not very open to expanding their friendship group. The counselors also all "southern belles" and pay very close attention to the girls they like the most and very little attention to the girls that they do not like as much. The counselors also all turn a blind eye to the bullying that does occur (thankfully not to me) here. This camp also shoves Christianity down everyone's throat here, and there is a very christian vibe here that does not really accept religious diversity with open arms here. Though i enjoyed the summers I spent at greystone, I am grateful that i left, as I was able to better grow and mature in another setting.

My three girls have all gone to Greystone for the last 6 years and every year they count the days until they return. We absolutely love this Camp. As parents we love the four-fold growth that they encourage in our daughters: social, spiritual, physical, and mental. Our daughters have the time of their life. The facilities, food, staff...all are absolutely top rate. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Greystone at all...except that as a parent I'm not able to be a camper too! I wish I could be!

Both my daughters, 14 (second year) and 11 (new camper), loved Greystone. The "bubble" Greystone offers is just what we wanted for our girls, if only for one month a year. We didn't know if the 14 yr old would want to return next year given other alternatives beyond camp available at that age, but both want to go back. Here's what my 11 yr old says about camp:I love Camp Greystone! Everything there is amazing: the staff, the cabins, the activities, the food, the wonderful friendships you make. But most importantly, this camp brought me closer to Jesus. I love Greystone with all my heart and can't wait to go back next year!

Camp Greystone is truly a wonderful place. My girls ages 14 and 12 have attended for the past 4 years. Greystone is a bubble in this digital age where my daughters have grown each year they have attended. Pressures of Instagram, likes, what you wear each day, social events attended- just melt away. Instead the girls talk to each other, practice smiling, and learn to accept each others gifts. Kindness is encouraged and celebrated. It is a safe and loving place where they can be independent of us but, yet have guidance from the amazing staff they hire. My girls have had wonderful counselors each and every summer. I am a very picky Mom with a deep faith and Greystone has made my girls stronger Christians each year they have gone. How rare and precious that is in today's world. There are a wide range of activities to choose from. My girls have learned and done things they never would have attempted anywhere else. I will gladly share both my girls with Greystone again.

My daughter has gone to Greystone for 7 summers and loves each one more than the last! She has made friends from all over the country and loves staying in touch with them during the school year. We have been so impressed with all of her counselors, and she has always felt loved/supported by them. Activities are varied, and girls have the opportunity to try so many different things - things they might not think of trying at school or at home. While facilities are nice and well-maintained, cabins are not air-conditioned, and girls absolutely get a full "camp" experience. We appreciate the communication from camp not only during the session, including the blogs, photographs and letters from her counselor, but throughout the year, as well. We appreciate the focus on faith and encouragement of each and every girl to recognize how special she is - so important in today's world. I cannot say enough complementary things about Greystone and am thrilled my daughter loves it as much as she does!

My daughter has gone to Camp Greystone the last 4 years. She didn't know anyone attending the camp but that did not detour her from finding sweet friends!! Greystone does a great job of making girls feel right at home and included. Each year she connects with old friends from years past and meets new girls that have never been to Greystone. Greystone has been a special place for our 11 year old daughter, and will continue to be for many years to come. She said, right before camp this summer, "I wish I could live at Greystone".

these bad reviews on here are completely wrong. Greystone was the nicest and most friendly place ive ever been and i wish i had gone more times than i did. every counselor is nice and will work hard to make the campers happy. Obviously the facilities, activities and FOOD were amazing but besides that stuff the people were awesome too. The Miller family is incredible and they care about every camper. By far the best camp i had ever gone too and i would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Greystone is truly God sent. Quite cheezily I say that it saved my life. I was going through a really rough time in 9th grade, and had several problems going on, my camp friends were constantly making sure I was okay and letting me call them late at night. I have not yet experienced the "cliquiness" these reviews refer to, but I can say with all my heart in my 12 years there I never witnessed any bullying. Sure some girls have designer things, but is that a reason not to go to a good christian camp? The directors are so kind and caring I am stunned by how personal they are(know every girl's name). Main camp is the session I would recommend, for you get to build longer relationships and more memories. One can easily feel the christian spirit as soon as they step through thee gates.

Our girls attended Camp Greystone for 4 years. It is not what it seems. They call themselves a Christian camp but The truth is that is all about $$$. This camp is making the Miller family very wealthy. If your kids tow the line and do everything they are supposed to do, then fine, but if they show at any time, that they need some attention then WATCH OUT! They will put your girls on a watch list and the director is relentless about putting them under a microscope after that. It soon becomes a horrible and damaging experience. Some of the counselors are nice but not all, some are spoiled debutants that could care less about your daughters especially if they have to do any extra work. The worst part is the leadership, Jimboy comes off as a amicable approachable good ol' boy -most definitely-a facade. If you ever sat down with the directors, there is nothing Christian about them. For him it is all about the money and towing the line for the "greystone experience".

i love camp greystone!! everything about it is PERFECT! its a 93 year old camp but the facilities are improved every year so it looks brand new! everyone on the staff is SO nice. they are very careful with choosing their staff (go look at the application on the website!) so if i was a mom i would have no problem handing off my children to these staff members for 2-5 weeks. there are so many activities so you are sure to find something you will like! my favorites are riflery and greystone groove. everyone there is super friendly and its sooo much fun! i'm obsessed with greystone! next year it will be my 8th year i think and i finally get to go to main camp!!! i do think that older girls going for the first time might not have as much fun as girls who have been going for a long time, so start going when you are younger!! i feel so close to God at camp its amazing! camp greystone is awesome!

My daughter is 9 attended Greystone's main camp this summer. 2009. It was her first summer at any camp. 4 weeks away from home. She had a great time. She came home with a different and more mature personality. She had a tough time at the beginning of camp and then as camp continued she made more friends and enjoyed herself. I believe like anything in life you make your own path. If you are going to have fun you will have a positive attitude and find that fun with the people that make you happy. My daughter did not get along with a few cabin mates and felt that they were alittle bit bullyish but she found friends that she clicked with and had fun with it. Greystone was a good place to make her summer positive. She talks about and is looking forward to going back to Greystone in 2010.

My daughters attended Greystone for 4 years. When they were very young, it was good. Facilities & breadth of activities are good. However, one of our daughters was BADLY bullied by other girls & the staff at Greystone did nothing to protect her. They missed the signs, her counselor swept it under the rug. When we approached the owners afterwards with constructive feedback about adding more training about bullying, they were polite but cool. Our daughter begged to go back since she had previously loved camp so we let her, but it quickly became obvious she was persona non grata by the staff (not kids). It made us sick to see this allegedly Christian camp treat the victim this way, particularly when the child was being so forgiving about the trauam. Greystone is great until, God forbid, you need them to work to earn their fees, at which point they'd rather just go to the next child on the waiting list. The stakes are just too high - this camp cannot be trusted with your child's safety.

I was a camper for five years at Greystone. I have not been back in 7 years and I miss it like crazy! Some of the greatest summers of my life. To say Greystone is amazing is an understatement and doesn't begin to cover it! And that's just how I feel about it from going to June Camp! I have heard nothing but rave reviews of Main Camp from my lucky friend who got to go to it, who says Main is several times better than June. In response to ratings that say its hard to make friends at Greystone: I am shy and quiet, yet I had little to no trouble making a few friends each summer. Greystone will always be a second home to me.

This camp is the is my heaven on earth. I have gone to the five week session for five years now. My truest best friends are there. The counselors are caring, the food is the best food that i have ever had (thanks to a wonderful kitchen staff), the directors are amazing, and the camp is breath takingly beautiful. There are hundreds of activities to do. My favorites are synchronized swimming, hula dancing, tennis, Bible, glass beads, and wall. Every night there is an evening program, such as lip syncs, plays, talent shows, senior hunt, movie night, decade dance, Rockmont dance, vespers, team fires, and carnival. The camp even has a Derby Day, where the campers dress in their sun dresses and big hats and eat sophisticated food and watch the horse show. Everyone knows how to have fun at Greystone. It is fantastic.

My daughter spent 2 summers at Greystone and did not like it. The girls were quite clicky, most of them attended for years and it was difficult for her to break in. It was more of a country club atmosphere and a continuation of a sorority, too many "designer" outfits & luggage.

Camp Greystone was the most amazing experince of my life and is like a haven to me. There, you are not judged by your looks or clothes or how popular you are. I mad the best friends who I will never forget and are more reliable and fun than my friends back home at school. Plus, being apart for so long only makes the friendships even stronger. Greystone strengthened my love for the Lord God 310%. The counselors are amazing and fun and I loved them! There is SO MUCH to do and it is just sooo awesome!! I can not wait until next summer!!! Greystone is truely an experience you will not forget!!!

I have spent 6 summers at Greystone, and they were the best summers of my life.I have so many friends there, and year after year I go back and see them again after keeping in touch all year long. One of my Councelors is my role model and hero and I will always keep in touch with her. Here at camp, I have learned to have a great day every day of my life. There are always those few people that you always meet at camp that you just have to deal with and learn to be a friend to those who are being mean to you. That is just the camp experience. At camp I have enjoyed countless Ultimate Frisbee games in the rain,Sunday afternoons throwing a softball by the lake, and morning assemblies where God just seems so present and loving. At camp I have learned to try new things and I have gained so much self confidence.I don't wear makeup or nice clothes while I'm here, except Sunday. It's nice to get away from the real world telling us to do that.Greystone is a place to find yourself.I love Greystone!!!!

I have 2 girls who have both attended Greystone for 10 years. It has been a wonderful experience for them both and they have had the opportunity to meet friends from all over the United States. These friendships have lasted several years now and they look forward to seeing these girls every summer when they return to camp. It has even influenced my daughters college selection and her roommate. Not only do they remain in contact with their friends but their counselors as well. I think camp is only as enjoyable as you make it for yourself. The setting and activities at this camp are constantly being improved based on feedback and the surroundings are spectacular. Even the food is wonderful. I cannot imagine a place better suited for an enjoyable summer and my girls cannot wait to return as staff.

Our older 2 daughters went to Greystone and loved it and now our youngest is there. What a sweet camp. The number of choices the girls have for their activities is amazing and each one is so well done. If you go to visit you will not see more happy, smiling, laughing girls. The cabins for the most part are not air conditioned as was stated previously and each girl has the chance to find activities to express who they are. Some are outdoorsy, some are not. Some are athletic, some are not. It does not matter. There is something for everyone and especially wonderful memories and great fun!

Camp Greystone is the best place in the world- really! Yes, it's a very nice place, but "too prim and proper"...? Believe me, with ultimate frisbee in the rainy mud, hikes through the dense vegetation of the Blue Ridge Mountains, clay fights in ceramics, and overnights with your cabin in the woods, Greystone is not a brat-infested country club! As previously established, the food is the most amazing thing EVER, and your cabinmates and counselors become like sisters. Each summer is magical and unique and you have to experience it to understand. I love Greystone!!

My first meal at camp, I got separated from my cabin. They all sat at one table, but I had to sit at a different table by myself. The girls at my table were very unkind to me and discussed inappropriate subjects. When I told my counselor about it, not only did she have no sympathy for me, but she also told me to get over it and wait for the "switch tables" day. It was very traumatic having to sit at that table without any help or even comfort. Later that week, our counselor had to go home and another counselor was supposed to come to replace her. There was no counselor in our cabin the next morning. I went to the office to ask about it, and a lady said she would send someone to us. Later that day, we still had no counselor. I went back to the office, and the lady gave me an evil eye when I asked for a counselor. She rolled her eyes and sent a random woman in her office to be our counselor. These are only two examples of the poor treatment I received all camp. Try Desoto instead.

Every summer since the age of seven I have attened Camp Greystone. This was the best decision my mother has ever made for me. During the five weeks that I lived at Greytone I made life long friendships, strengthened my relationship with god, and had a ton of fun. The councelors are wonderful, even though every once in a while you may get one that doesn't seem to caring, but you will get that at every camp. This place is my second home, and you all should really consider going. I promise you won't ever regret going!!!

I went to Greystone a few times and hated it. The girls there were cliquey and mean, and the so-called "caring counselors" never did a thing about it. No doubt is it a beautiful place, but you definently don't get the same camp experience. WAY to prim and proper. I would NOT recommend this camp simply because of the spoiled brats there. It was not an enjoyable experience!

After going to Greystone for over 6 years now I know tghat this is the best camp out there. I've gpne to other camps before but none like Greystone. the girls you meet at camp you will never forget and will be your friends for the rest of your life. There is always something to do and the food is to die for, its homecooked and something that you wouldnt find at a camp. People who give it horrible ratings with hardly any examples to back it up have obviously never been there. Greystone gives you the true "camp expeirence" After Greystone I can't imagine myself anywhere else. The counselors pay attention to the girls and listen to whatever they have to say. I recomend this camp to anyone interested and I truly adore it. I can not wait to go back for the '08 year! Greystone is the best camp there is, and i LOVE IT!

I attended Greystone as a camper for eleven summers and was a counselor for three years. This place is my home away from home. I made some of my best friends at greystone and we still keep in touch today. The activities cover a vast variety of things such as archery, a first class horseback riding facility, fine arts including glass bead making, all kinds of sports, dance, fitness, swimming, sailing, golf...basically you name it and they have it. The great thing is that if there is something they don't have, the directors will actually listen and take your suggestions into account. Greystone teaches you to be a well-rounded, godly, unselfish lady. They really value and praise inner beauty, which is a wonderful break from the real world that girls face in every day life. The five week session is by far the best! The older girls really set the tone that session. They obviously love camp or they wouldn't be there as juniors and seniors in high school. I have spent many summers at Camp Greystone. It really truly is a great camp. It is tons of fun and there is always something to do. They have good religious morals. The counselors are always there to help out and are tons of fun. This camp is truly the best and i reccomend it to anyone interested.

Wide variety of activities staffed by qualified staff. Food is all homemade (even the bread) and is rated highly by all the girls. My daughter did have one experience out of 5 sessions where the counselors did not provide good attention. Was an isolated example however. Traditions of this camp are old and meaningful to the girls. Facilities are fantastic. Owners are sincere and the family has had the camp for several generations. I do wish that they had more 2 week sessions, as the options for the older girls are either 3 or 5 week sessions. The camp attracts girls from all over the country, and a few from outside the US. They make an effort to pair up girls who have been together in the same cabins over several years (upon request) and this adds to the experience.

Highest quality facility and highest character people you will ever encounter in a summer camp. Our family has a great deal of camp history (boys and girls) and this is hands down the best there is. You will meet "Greystone Girls" throughout the rest of your life and it will be a bond you share forever. My college age daughter, long distance in college now, is running into people she met 8 - 10 years ago at Greystone! Get on the wait list a year in advance and even then, you are not sure of a spot, but once you are in, you have a spot forever!

I went to Greystone about 20 years ago and absolutely loved it! My sister went to and loved it; she and I talk about it constantly to this day. I have had the pleasure of visiting Greystone during the summer several times over the last few years, and if there was any child there not having the time of her life, I sure didn't see it. Smiles everywhere you look, beautiful singing coming from the Pavilion, squeals of glee coming from the water park. It is hard to imagine that anyone could go to Greystone and NOT have fun!! The facilities at Greystone are amazing... the riding facilities and the new arts building have to be as good as any camp in the nation. The activities at Greystone are impeccably supervised -- something you often don't see at other camps. I have visited many other camps over the years, in many different states, and Greystone is one of the best. If you choose to send your daughter(s), you won't regret it.
