Click to report rating    6/3/23   3     1     2     3     1   This was my experience from last summer. STAFF-Amazing people. My bunk was very problematic (and quite frankly, a bit rude to me) so it was good to have some people on my side. The directors are huge bi*****. They seem nice, but they have done some horrible things. On a day that people were touring they told everyone that visiting day was canceled and told everyone it was a "rainy" (it wasn't raining) day to keep everyone inside their bunks so they could hide the truth that everyone was crying. FACILITIES-Outdated. I get that the camp is trying to go for a very "camp" look. but that is why the facilities are so bad. They could do way better at that considering that people give an upwards of $12,000 a year for this camp. Activities-Eh. Specific programs, like music and theatre, are very outdated. For theatre-they bring in a group called "mainstages" to do a full-on hour+ long show in a WEEK, and half the time they played games! PERSONAL ATTENTION-This goes with staff for me. RID: 53729
Click to report rating    5/27/21   1     1     1     1     1   I experienced physically and mental abuse here when I was 11. This was my conservation with them in regards to it Carly, We are sorry to see your recent comments, and understand that you didn’t have the positive experience that we want campers to have while at Canadensis. Know that we are available to listen and hear more about your perspective on camp a decade ago, please contact us privately at 484-674-1941 or by email, info@canadensis.com How dare you call this a not positive experience. A “not positive experience” is equal to bad service at a restaurant. Not child abuse. Abusing a child is disgusting. You caused me childhood trauma every time I have to leave home for a long period of time so thanks for that. If the statutes of limitations weren’t up I would be suing your asses. I will continue to drag your name through the mud. And also im not surprised you guys deleted the comments because you are cowards and don’t want people to know what actually happens at this place. Ta RID: 53390
Click to report rating    8/26/18   1     3     3     1     1   The directors do not provide adequate care for the children. Counselors are more interested in socializing with each other than caring for the campers. Staff kids are given preferential treatment. RID: 52218
Click to report rating    4/18/18   5     5     5     5     5   Our son's first summer was summer of 2017 and he loved it so much. Kept thanking us for sending him there and was so sad when the summer ended. Not a sporty kid so we wanted a camp that had a lot of other non sporty activities. This camp has such a great array of activities so perfect for all sorts of kids from sporty to non sporty. Also, the directors of the camp are phenomenal. Highly recommend! RID: 51776

9/14/13   1     4     3     1     1   While the Directors may be fun & act like kids, they don’t know anything about caring for us. We got in trouble for waiting in line to get water or told to get off & go to activities. A girl in my bunk had food allergies & when camp mom wasn’t there she didn’t get any food. There was 1 bunk w/6yo staff kids+they put in another 6yo whose mom wasn’t there. She cried alot but the ONE 19yo counselor with the 9 girls was too busy to help. 1 of them got in trouble when she didn’t take her meds for days-but the counselor didn’t get in trouble for not taking the 6yo to get her meds. We had a lot of conflict in my bunk but our HEAD counselor was still in HS so she didn’t know how to help us. Our moms called and were told the issues were being handled. Not true. Dir said no gum bc her dog stepped in it-then told some kids ok if they hid it. We signed up for glass elective weekly but never got in. They kept a pkg 2me+never gave me the letter. Dirs screamed at boys+spoke rude to staff. STAY AWAY! RID: 45989

8/30/13   1     1     4     1     1   Most mismanaged camp I ever saw. No two people, owner and staff alike, tell you the same thing. Poor choice in counselors. I lost a lot of money from this camp. STAY AWAY, there are much better camps in the area. RID: 45901

2/6/13   5     4     5     5     4   Camp Canadensis is my home. Lower Boys Head Counselor Roy Kaplan is truly fantastic. The guy knows kids and how to work with them. My child would not have made it through the summer if not for him. Brian Krug is very open, and easy to talk to oh the phone. My child will be back for summer #3! RID: 43605

1/16/12   1     1     1     1     1   Staff is completely unaccommodating towards campers. Campers must face outlandish consequences for the slightest acts of un orderly conduct. Brian Krug can recruit campers well but fails to manage the campers he has. Eric Forti and Roy Kaplan are terrible at running a camp. Campers failing to participate in an activity after already being reprimanded are subject to telephone conference with parents RID: 37736

Click to report rating    11/27/10   5     5     5     5     5   What can I say?? This is my 7th year at camp and I have had many up and down moments. But, those problems that I had were more of a “Who should I ask to the dance?” kind of thing because at camp everyone is your friend.! RID: 34492

4/8/09   5     5     5     5     5   My children had a wonderful experience. Brian Krug does a wonderful job as camp director. He is very capable at his job, friendly and very professional. He takes camp very seriously and addresses all problems. The camp has a wide range of activities, which makes it very easy for any camper to fit in. The camp grounds are beautiful. We have had no problems with the staff. Are kids are happy, so that is what it is all about. RID: 29452
Click to report rating    11/10/08   1     4     5     2     4   So far, as a camper for 4 years, I have had many ups and downs. Brian Krug is fairly inept at his job. He recruits campers, but can't manage the ones that he already has. The counselors are okay. I have had 15 different ones, but 2 have gotten fired. Of those 13 that didn't, 5 should have been fired. The camp is a good place for kids over 4th grade, but some have been coming for years before that. I started in 4th grade, and there is never a dull moment. The activities are 1st-rate, and they have a GIANT lake. The buildings and cabins are nice, but could do with a few minor upgrades. Personal Attention: Definitely could be better. The staff will pay attention to maybe 4 in your bunk of 10, and favors anyone with a sibling that came before them. Counselors are fairly unbiased, seeing as the camp gets so many new ones each year. Keep in mind, of the 15 counselors that I've had, 2 are still with the camp. If that doesn't show you something, what will. Lastly, if you are not a New Yorker, RID: 27413

9/27/08   5     5     5     5     5   As an international staff member of Camp Canadensis i need to advise that to get satff members to return year after year from half way acrss the world, this camp must be doing alot of things right. Canadensis has an amazing group of staff who work together with beautiful kids, and fantastic facilities to make amazing memories summer after summer. I have been here since 2006 Brian's 1st year and although i didn't know the old directors well, Brian does an amazing job. He cares bout the children, but also runs a tight shift making sure the head counselors and counselors are doing the same. He has a no tolerance policy for drinking and drug, and also makes sure activities are arranged for staff so they have other enjoyable options at night. Aunt Terri is INCREDIBLE, the sweetest woman who would do absolutely anything for campers and staff alike. Canadensis is an amazing place, a giant family and if you have different ideas, then you have obviously never been part of something special. RID: 26758

8/4/08   5     5     5     5     5   This is my daughter's eighth summer at Canadensis. This camp is the best around!!! The Owner, Terri, the Director, Brian, and all the staff are excellent. The camp is beautiful and so well organized!! I highly recommend Camp CanadensiS. These have been the best summers of my daughter's life and I know she will be there again next summer. The food is great, the cabins are all updated, and the activities are awesome!!!! I just love Camp Canadensis!!! RID: 25441

Click to report rating    6/29/08   5     5     5     5     5   this is a first rate camp with great facilities and a great setting. well rounded program. just what you would want from a summer camp. RID: 24461
Click to report rating    6/16/08   5     5     5     5     5   Canadensis is definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me! Put it this way: if your child did not have an amazing summer at this camp, then camp is just not for them. The staff is amazing and the friends you meet here you will never forget. Over the past 5 years I have developed friendships that I can guarantee will last for the rest of my life. I consider this place my 2nd home and that will never change. Summer time is a time I wait for all year round because I can't wait to go to camp canadensis!! RID: 23912
Click to report rating    6/12/08   5     5     5     5     5   An amazing place to send your child. I attended for over ten years and the staff, facilities, and activities are the best of the best! RID: 23802
Click to report rating    6/8/08   5     4     5     5     5   I enjoy coming to this camp year after year. I will continue to camp back for the great staff and activities. I have made a bunch of friends here and I love this place. WWith the new renovations and staff the camp will just get better and better!! RID: 23681
Click to report rating    6/5/08   4     5     5     5     5   This camp has to be the best in the entire northeastern United States. The staff leaves very little to be desired. The activities are spectacular, and, in agreement with many others, there really is nowhere else with motor-bikes and water-skiing. Brian Krug is often a nice man, and, contrary to what many have said, is caring, and listens to everyone's problems. I will be returning for my fourth summer, and I have counting the days down since early last fall (pretty much the day that I got back). RID: 23608
Click to report rating    4/4/08   4     5     5     3     4   Find me another camp with motorcycles, horses, a pool just for scuba diving, etc. The facilities and activities at this camp are top notch. The head counselor has changed but at some point people get too old to run a camp and it is a good thing to bring new blood in. I have never seen another camp, and I now spend my summers at another camp due to my husbands job, that puts as much money as Canadensis back in to the camp every year. RID: 21955
Click to report rating    3/10/08   1     4     2     1     3   very disappointing and poorly managed, I agree with previous comments about Brian being uncommitted to the campers happiness. There are also oldtimers who dont know how to crack a smile and deserve the name Shark. My child wont be back, there are better camps. RID: 21143
Click to report rating    2/15/08   2     2     2     2     2   inexperienced staff, rundown facilities, poorly instructed activities, and disappointing directorship. definitely not recommended. RID: 20319
Click to report rating    12/25/07   3     4     4     4     5   i loive this camp SOOOOO much. each year io cant wait to come back. the trips are great too. even though the food us horrinble, you can always eat something at the salad bar RID: 18304
Click to report rating    11/10/07   4     5     5     5     5   camp canadensis is the most amazing place on earth. If your looking for a camp for your child, pick this one. My friends are freakin amazin'and i see them all the time at home. RID: 16959
Click to report rating    11/7/07   2     3     2     1     2   My daughter's comments are below. I wish I had found this website prior to last summer. THe owner (Aunt Terri) truly means well, but has an inexperienced and, I believe, immature Director . All I can say from our experience is you should think twice about sending a 5th grader to Canadensis as a "first timer", as cliques have already built up and they are ill-equipped to deal with the social issues or homesickness. It says something that my daughter, who's normally a friendly girl, has no interest in returning or corresponding with anyone from her summer. This was her first summer away, but denying she was having a hard time until I read them her letters verbatim and she begged to go home on visiting day, did not help. These are my daughter's words: Brian will not listn to you. They do not care about your problems. They will just say if you want to go home that you have to wait until camp is over. The food is gross and the pool is the coldest on earth and they make you go in. RID: 16885
Click to report rating    7/13/07   5     5     5     5     5   My child loves this camp. The staff is very responsive and attentive to the needs of the children and the parents. The facilities are lovely and setting is one of the nicest I have seen. There are plenty of camps that charge much more and provide much less. RID: 12939
Click to report rating    7/9/07   2     4     3     3     1   Camp Canadensis is a shell of its former self still parading around as an elite camp. In comparison to its competition, the family-owned Canadensis cuts more corners with its budget than I have ever seen in the industry. The disorganized Head Staff provide immature, aloof, and in many cases, no leadership to an under-prepared and overworked staff who put nights at the local bar ahead of supervsion and safety. New Director Brian Krug is a salesman and a schmoozer with limited administrative intellect and an obvious lack in substative experience in areas other than camper recruiment. The food is poor and the facilities, though plentiful, are second rate compared to other top camps. Camp Canadensis is very much in limbo with a revolving door of inept leadership over the past several years and probably a safe bet to pass on considering the wealth of elite Northeastern camps that actually deliver on what they sell. RID: 12833
Click to report rating    6/29/07   5     5     5     5     5   My kids love this place and I am very jealous because I want to go. I don't have a bad thing to say and it gets better and better every year. RID: 12586
Click to report rating    6/29/07   5     4     5     5     5   This is the greatest camp, down to earth and all about spirit and fun. The activities are awesome and the directors rock. cc rules! RID: 12584
Click to report rating    6/28/07   5     4     5     5     5   we love the new director, brian krug; he has made many new changes which will do wonders for the camp. my girls love the camp and their counselors. we adore camp canadensis. cc rocks RID: 12567
Click to report rating    5/28/07   5     5     5     5     5   this camp is MORE than a nurturing environment, i'm not sure what the person below me is talking about... campers have two scheduled phonecalls each summer, and JCs are typically great kids who understand the camp better than most because they have been there for many years as campers... the head staff are gracious and kind people... RID: 11232
5/28/07   1     4     3     4     3   This camp is not a nurturing environment for children. As a counselor, the head staff do not appreciate you. The kids are not allowed to call their parents more than once their whole stay. The junior counselors spend most of the time with the kids all day from one activity to the next, and influence the children greatly. Some junior counselors were nice, others were outright nasty. RID: 11228
Click to report rating    3/1/07   5     4     5     5     5   this is my 7th summer coming up in 07, and camp canadensis is my LIFE. the girls in my bunk are like my sisters, they mean everything to me. i became so close with the staff.. i dont know what that rating about drugs and stuff was, cuz my sister, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, and other uncle went to canadensis.. and they all had amazing times. the staff is amazing, theyre all so cool and relax.. theyre awesome. this camp is the best thign in the world, and i most definately would recommend anyone to come here. the memories and friendships are perpetual, but your time as a camper only lasts to long.. i will be a super senior, meaning after this summer, i have only one more year as a camper, and i wish i took advantage of those years, and made them mean something. everyone cries at the end of camp, because the friendships weve made will last forever, adn the bonds we share are unbreakable. i LOVE YOU CANADENSIS <3 RID: 8231

Click to report rating    1/8/07   5     5     5     5     5   Just finished my eighth summer here... UNBELIEVABLE. Honestly, I can't think of anyway this place could have been any better... I've made great friends with the staff, other campers... it's just been outstanding. Regarding comments about alcohol and drug use- I have NO IDEA what these people are talking about. This camp is extremely strict about these sorts of things, in my 8 years there I had heard about drug use in 2 instances and those people were kicked out IMMEDIATELY and for good once the camp was made aware... there is not an issue with these sorts of things at all. No, I don't work for Canadensis, but I'd be happy to answer any and all questions about it: steven.penguin@gmail.com. I LOVE THIS PLACE RID: 6577
