Click to report rating    3/18/16   5     5     5     5     5   I was at camp in 1997 and 1998. 97" Kermit was the director, "bushwhack was councilor. I tripped on a trail and this team took such great care of me. Luckily it was the night before leaving home bc I tore ligaments in my knee. I went the next year and had "bam bam & haka" as coy colors and "haka" kept as a pen pals for 5 years/ - she had helped me grow as a successful individual. Girl Scout camp was my opportunity to enjoy being a kid when home life wasn't as lovely. It was such a fun camp. I enjoyed every second and only jealous I didn't get to continue. The last year I went my mother forgot to pick me up-and the staff I remembered as a kid -stayed with me from the bus drop off, made me feel comforted and welcomed, wasn't an Inconvience, - seriously- sad to hear it's changed a lot but for me they are memories I would never take back! Click to report rating    6/10/13   5     3     1     3     2   The counselors were the one bright spot for this camp. My 10 year went in 2012 and had an awful experience. Granted, it was 100+ degrees, but that only made it worse that they only got to actually use the lake ONE time for the entire 5 days. She wrote daily that she wanted us to come get her, but less than half of the e-mailed letters were even sent to us. Since they read her letters and then scanned/e-mailed them, we assume that they didn't want us to know how badly our daughter hated the place. Had I known, I would have picked her up. We were very upset that they didn't send the letters and felt terrible telling our daughter WHY we never responded to those sad letters. I would look elsewhere for a camp, unless this one has changed. We had a friend go in 2011 and she had a great time - on the water all of the time. So I don't know what happened in 2012, but I'd be asking specific questions about activities before sending them to this camp. RID: 44713
Click to report rating    1/3/13   5     4     5     5     5   I went to Camp Oakledge back in the late 1970s and still have fond memories of my summers spent there! My only complaint was latrine cleaning!! I haven't been back since that time, but for a 45-year-old to happily reminisce about an experience so long ago says something. RID: 43308
Click to report rating    4/23/12   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Oakledge is amazing! My best friend and I love it. I love everything about it, even the food. The only con about it is that the first time we cleaned the lats once. The second time we cleaned them once a day. RID: 40830

12/8/11   2     4     4     4     4   Camp Oakledge is great! The staff is sometimes questionable. The priority in hiring the best staff is not at the top of the list. Their staff display inappropriate behavior times and this can be traced back to many years of leadership starting in 2004. I think the camp is continually headed in a better direction with the newest director. I would recommend sending your daughter her for life skills that will stay with her forever. RID: 37471

Click to report rating    8/13/09   5     4     5     5     5   Camp Oakledge will be open again! It seems like a wasted summer, one not spent at Oakledge due to "resting" the camp. But it will be open again summer 2010! RID: 30725
Click to report rating    3/4/09   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp sooo much. It means the world to me. I meet so many people there I lost track (but not of them). This camp really changes people. I go there and some girls are really shy and homesick, but by the end of camp they are laughing and joking around with everybody like it has always been that way. Nobody at this camp really judges girls so you meet friends you never would have thought you would have at school or somewhere else. It teaches me so much and changes my life style from sitting on the couch to being active. My mom says I always come back looking like I've lost weight. I feel strong when I come back from camp. I always fine myself bragging about this camp. This year I even got my friend to come who normally wouldn't go to this kind of camp. She normally isn't that active and doesn't like the whole camping thing but I got her to go! Tonight I just found out that Camp Oakledge is closed. I don't want to believe it so I'm going to ask around. I love Camp Oakledge! RID: 29163

Click to report rating    6/21/08   4     5     5     5     5   My two children have been attending camp oakledge for about 4 years. They normally attend two different sessions. All I can say is they have great time. They talk about camp for months after it ends and start planning to go to camp again in February. I believe this camp has had a great influence on my children's childhood. They have made life long friends and memories to numerous to count. Last year, one of my children needed medical attention and was taken to the doctor. I can honestly say I don't have to worry about my children while they are at Camp Oakledge. Camp can be expensive but we start saving in January. I believe the postive impact this camp has on my children is well worth the money. When I asked my daughter about camp her reply was "it rocks." I have always been able to communicate and concerns with the staff and have found them to be responsive to my childs needs. RID: 24067
Click to report rating    1/12/08   5     5     5     5     5   I went to oakledge just this past summer and i loved it!!! I was in beginning backpackers with 10 other girls and now I have ten more great new friends! I loved all of my counelors, Odie, Buttercup, and Lilo rock my socks! I can't wait until this summer when I get to do pack trek. If there is anyone out there not sure if they want to go to camp or not, let me tell you, Oakledge is the best! I've only been going for two years, but I have already fallen in love with everything there (even the lats) RID: 18865

Click to report rating    4/4/07   5     5     5     5     5   I go to Camp Oakledge every year for the last 5 years i totally love it. It is the best camp every! They really get into making sure you have a good time! RID: 9425
Click to report rating    1/9/07   1     2     5     1     3   New camp director needs better priorities. The safety of your campers should be the MOST important thing to you! Not wether or not the staff like you or are afraid of you. The most important thing is the CAMPERS and especially their safety. That means staff that you know are unqualified need more training! not saying you need to fire them but need the training. staff that put kids at risk need to be talked to not just oh no one has got hurt yet. Staff that the camp director has been notified that is popping pills, drinking, etc should be at least talked to not just ignored because oh no campers have been hurt so far. All i have to say is priorities... CAMPERS SAFETY SHOULD ALWAYS COME FIRST!! and i dont believe that the new camp director has the mind frame. RID: 6611
Click to report rating    12/26/06   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going for two years and this will be my third. Each year it just gets better. Click to report rating    11/30/06   3     4     4     2     3   After many years as a camper and as staff I know that there are many things this camp needs to work on. Such as making sure they have qualified staff in positions especially health positions. RID: 5510
Click to report rating    8/26/06   5     5     5     5     5   oakledge has changed my life.i am a camper of 5 years, and i will be a CIT next summer(2007).i can't wait! this summer was hard for me, because i had some severe health issues. it was so hard to have to go back to the nurse, and miss out on the fun activities. RID: 2449
Click to report rating    8/9/06   5     4     5     4     4   as a camper, i have returned to this camp for the past 6 years and next year i will be a counselor. the staff are fun and really know their stuff and seeing them w/ their other counselor friends is hilarious. girls complain about latrines, but hello its camp; if you dont like it, go in the woods. there is a ton of stuff to do such as go to the pool, rapel, crafts, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, not to mention hike like crazy! sometimes the staff may not realize that a girl is homesick instead of just shy, but everything usually works out by the end of the amazing 10 days. i think that anything i cant personally pay for is too much money, and as i cant pay the 200 something dollars my parents do for me, i think the cost should be less. but once you realize everything that is needed, you will realize that the price couldnt be lowered a dollar. i would recommend this for anyone who loves the outdoors. making new friends is also part of the amazing experience. just go and try it!
