Click to report rating    5/18/18   4     5     5     4     5   Even though I only spent two summers at Tyler Hill, my experience was awesome. Kids in my group were nice, as well as the counselors, and the activities were a lot of fun. Decided to go to this camp because of what they offered and was looking for a new summer experience after a bad summer at another camp the year before. Quickly made friends and memories that I will never forget. RID: 51831
Click to report rating    4/4/17   5     5     5     5     5   This place gives you opportunities that you may be thought you might never have. Tyler hill changed my life and it will definitely change yours too. This is my 7th summer and I have been with the same girls for every summer.Tyler hill is a very special place and anyone that has the chance to go there, consider yourself lucky!!! RID: 50594
Click to report rating    10/7/16   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is the best thing that has ever happened to me! When I first went to Tyler Hill Camp I was a 9 year old and my division was Freshman B. I was very homesick because I missed my parents dearly but the divisions leaders, campers, counslers, and the directors Andy and Wendy Seigal helped me out through the jounrey and made this the best place ever for me! I am now 12 years old and Im going to be a senior this coming up summer and could not be more excited to come back for my fifth summer! The friendships you make the the experiences you have her are a gift! Whenever I think of THC I get the chills because it is sooo special to me and is the best place you could ever be! Everyone in this camp is amazing and the spirt at this camp is so great! If you had one place to send youre child away for seven weeks, trust me this is the best place to choose! When I say this I mean it! Tyler Hill the the most magical, beautiful, happiest place you could ever be! RID: 50166

9/15/14   5     5     5     5     5   Tyler Hill is the best camp ever! I came my sophomore summer which is 3-5 years later than when most campers start. A lot of people are saying that the people are very cliquey at this camp but that is 100% WRONG. Again, I came to THC much later than everyone else but I made lots of new friends and ever lasting memories with not only my division but others too. The counselors are great and the returning staff and campers are so kind and funny. I haven't met one division leader at my summer home that I do not like. Also, I don't know what the other readers think of Andy and Wendy but I can assure you that they are the kindest couple that you will ever meet. They have three kids and raised them beautifully. THC is built around STARFISH (Sportsmanship. Tolerance. Appreciation. Respect. Friendship. Integrity. Sensitivity. Helpfulness) and that helps kids build their character. Tyler Hill might not be the most athletic camp in the world but it totally changes you for the better. I LOVE THC< RID: 47986

1/30/14   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my second summer returning to Tyler Hill Camp as a counselor. The staff, who come to work at Tyler Hill from all around the world, truly love this place and their jobs. The facilities are top notch (air conditioned bunks, spacious dining hall, countless sports arenas and courts, etc.) and well kept. There are more activities offered than I could name. From sports to cooking to crafts to aquatic activities and even frog catching...this camp has everything! And children are encouraged to take full advantage of this during their daily elective periods. As for personal attention, Andy and Wendy (the camp directors) know every child and staff member by name - it's incredible! RID: 46671

Everyone gets along and its amazing. As a camper I get homesick every once in a while. THe counselors, division leaders and friends make you feel like your at home. RID: 43631

10/6/12   3     3     3     2     2   I was a counselor at this camp & to say that the staff there is under paid and under appreciated is an understatement. I was wondering why I wasn't asked back so I emailed the director who said I had a complaint from a child, the accusation was false but all he could tell me is that "true or untrue, it's about perception" would you really want to send your child to a camp where they teach you that not telling the truth is okay? Sure the place is nice & there are some fun activities at the end of the day you want to know that you're children are being taught valuable life lessons. Also for the staff they work from 8 in the morning till sometimes 11 at night, even later on other nights & only get 45 minutes off a day! And at the end of the summer they are paid the equivalent of someone who works at a fast food place. I'm not saying don't send your kids here I'm just saying don't send them to THC if you want them to learn positive things. RID: 42815

11/20/11   1     3     1     1     1   This camp is is full of outdated traditions and no new ideas. I was a counselor this past summer (2011) and was very excited to see what this camp had to offer. I was 100% disappointed on how this camp was portrayed by the owners and people who hired me. I can honestly say that this camp should be shut down. It provides fake confidence for the campers who attend. The camp is a giant click and if you do not fit in that click (rich, stuckup, brat, and jewish) you are automatically not accepted into the group. The facilities are nice but the staff are bad people, which is a shame... this place could be amazing! The camp is very competitive (which is not a bad thing) but I had children crying in my bunk daily because of the stress caused by competitiveness in the camp. All in all Tyler Hill in not people meeting people (play on their camp song) it is same activities every day, children crying bc they lost, and allowing rich brats to get their way. I would Never recommend this camp. RID: 37312

10/11/10   5     5     5     5     5   This camp has changed who I am. It has shaped me into the person that i am today and i couldnt be anymore thankful. As my eighth year here at tyler hill i can say that sending your kid to a place like this will be the best thing you could ever do for him/her. Whether its the friends you make or the stuff you do there, memories are made that couldn't be made anywhere else. I am so thankful for this camp. RID: 34224

8/23/10   5     5     5     5     5   I have just finished my seventh summer as a camper. I have been at my home since i was a freshman. I have made bonds with people that i will never forget, not just the campers but with counselors too. I know how some people are ignored by people in their bunk but that isn't the whole division nor camp. I am not one of the "popular" people but i have a ton of fun. I am athletic and even got to participate in the Lazarus Bowl and it made me realize during the final game how great the environment of camp actually is. It legitimately kills me to see how people can say such horrid things about THC. Andy and Wendy try to help every single kid to have the best summer of their life. I have had rough times at camp but I grew up and got over them and realized it's always going to have its ups and downs. With that on topic, I managed to have the greatest summer of my life. There is no reason not to send your kid here if you want him/her to have a great time and to make friendships that last 4eva RID: 33844

6/23/10   5     5     5     5     5   This summer will be my sixth summer, I started going when I was eight. I'm from Florida, and I came to THC, I was extremely nervous and at the same time excited. This camp is the greatest place in the world. Everyday I calculate the days until I can go and experience the joy I feel again. My first summer, I was put into bunk 1. I instantly became BEST friends with these girls, and when I returned for the next summers, I was placed in bunks with them along with five other girls! We have eight girls in this bunk, and it couldn't be the most perfect bunk for me to be in. I come home from camp and instantly sing the color war marches and alma matters! As it says in a color war sing song, "buses come my heart begins to drop, tears are falling, I can't make it stop, we were strangers all alone until Tyler Hill. Buses leave but we are not alone we found a place to call our summer home, found a place to call our summer home, for ten months we'll count the days until Tyler Hill." I LOVE THC! < RID: 33097

9/18/09   5     5     5     5     5   I'm not even sure how I ended up on this sight, but I have to say that our family has had the best experiences with Tyler Hill. We have a returning camper and one who started in 09. Andy and Wendy have only been warm, honest and willing to bend over backwards for my kids. They actually go into kids' bunks every night to say good-night. One of my kids had some major issues and they kept us in the loop and made sure that we were aware of everything that was going on all summer. Our kids' counselors (who were from Canada and the US) were fantastic -- they have even written the kids letters since camp ended and one of my sons was sobbing when he said good-bye to him at the bus-stop. The only downside is the cost, but when we looked around at other 7 week camps, they all ended up to be about the same. So happy we are at Tyler Hill and recommend it highly. RID: 31041

8/5/09   2     5     4     1     3   Tyler Hill is by far the nicest camp in Wayne County on the outside. Lets take a look on the inside- Wendy and Andy all about the Money! How can you send your child to a camp where the owners have no clinical experience with dealing with kids!. Andy thinks his high five and whats up bud works. Try dealing with all the bullying and girl clics at your camp. Unless your kid is perfect and has zero issues they prefer you go elswhere. Rumor has it this camp has more bullying then any other camp in wayne county. I'll admit the facilites are amazing but it has to be more then good looks. Couselors are mostly canadian and over worked and young. Hope your kid has no homesick or worse not get along with their whole bunk. If they do look out. They work you out here at this camp becasue they choose to not deal. Unless your child is perfect and you plan to disappear to Europe all summer and not care I would think real hard about sending my kid here. Glad we changes two years ago! RID: 30640

Click to report rating    8/22/08   5     5     5     4     5   I Have just finished a season at THC and I can honestly say that it is an awesome place to send your children, whilst most camps are (at the core) all about the money, this one is truely about the kids. The camp directors always have the time to listen to you and will remedy any problem you have in quick time. Warning to new staff, be prepared to work hard and the you will reap the benefits, I have made many friends here and will miss the entire place. Thank you Tyler Hill for an amazing summer. RID: 25948
Click to report rating    7/27/08   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter is in her second year. With two younger siblings, she got her "mojo" back at Camp TLC. She learned how to fish, ski, scuba dive, and play golf. With an active sports program she plays soccer & softball. They have the best camp directors ever! Wendy is the best and Andy is great too. I don't know what "Jap" means, but if it means Just A Perfect place, well then fine. With a golf course, two lakes, and a program built around confidence and character building -- we are very happy with our camp decision. RID: 25155
Click to report rating    6/30/08   5     5     5     5     5   I went to tyler hill for 6 years in a row and only now that I have stopped attending do I realize how amazing it really was. Yes the campers are jappy but they are in every upscale camp. The 8 weeks fly by and you really have to take the time to appreciate the amazing place that camp is and the amazing people that are there with you. tyler hill is the best! RID: 24469
Click to report rating    6/16/08   1     1     1     1     1   I had a really bad experience at this camp. In my bunk, all of the girls would compete to see who would lose the most weight during the summer when they were all around 100 pounds. They should have had eating disorder rehabilitation as one of the daily activities. RID: 23883

Click to report rating    3/26/08   2     4     2     2     2   I worked as a counselor and quckly found a lot of these comments to be true. All of my campers didn't know how to unpack their clothes or fold them. There weren't enough shelves even when maintnence put more in and I had to keep my clothes on my bed. Since I unpacked for the kids I know that they would each have to change at least 2 times a day to wear everything once. The facilities are ok but seem rarely used as most of the time I found my campers, girls, hanging out at the boys cabins all day. The schedule wasn't adhered to except for meals. 4th of July is barely celebrated while Canada day is a full day event. About half the counselors are Canadian and the other half are past campers who don't know how to be responsible for themselves yet and cetainly not your children. Campers are known to have "diet contests" as well. RID: 21658
Click to report rating    3/11/08   5     5     5     5     5   I really think it's safe to say that the Hill is one of the best places out there, and without a doubt, the best camp out there. I've been going back for many years, and THC really does bring out the best in everybody. My second summer I was a Color War captain, which truly was a great experience for me. Another summer I read a speech about Friendship at a STARFISH ceremony. My first summer I got a plaque for Outstanding Achievement, an Academy Award for the most improved happiest camper & a waterskiing trophy. Don't just think they only shower a few kids with rewards, but they do it to every child. They make every child feel accomplished, and even if they didn't succeed at something the first time, to keep trying. The facilities are beautiful, the staff is amazing, and the friendships, well, you'll keep those forever. Trust me when I say, Tyler Hill is, and always will be, my life <3. RID: 21166
Click to report rating    2/29/08   5     5     5     5     5   My first years at tyler hill were a blast. I began to love every person that went there. I made everlasting friendships after two weeks and i still have those friends today. Not only are the people that are here are amazing but also the place itself is beyond beautiful. I never had any major issues as a camper and i still don't after 6 years. This would definatly be a place i would send my children because this camp brings out the best values in its campers. I never really understood the saying "10 months for 2" until i came to this camp. Im not going to tell anyone to not come here or discriminate against other peoples opinions but i will say that this camp has defiantly changed me and made me a better person. RID: 20810

Click to report rating    9/21/07   5     5     5     5     5   OMG! I think this place is amazing! I never got to attend camp when I was a kid but my kids will definitely be going here and I'll be here for years to come! This was my second year at "The Hill" and I loved this year better than the last (and last year was amazing!) I even got to take part in Color War this year! Now, I do agree with some of the comments about the not-so-popular children having a lousy time seeing as though they're thrown into a bunk with campers who are best friends and have established relationships already. However, not all of the bunks are like that. This mistreatment is really only seen among the older campers. My new campers (who are in lower camp) loved this summer. They told me personally that they'd be comning back and were just as quick to shed GENUINE tears when it was time to say goodbye. The other campers were open and invited the new campers into their circles. It was great! For this, I will always love THC. RID: 15499
Click to report rating    9/20/07   5     1     1     1     1   This camp is satanic. I worked as a staff member this year and let me tell you, if you think they give a damn about your kid, you're in for a real shock. The staff is AMAZING, but the head of the camp are evil, horrible, and greedy people. They will do anything or say anything to get your money. Seriously, they don't care about anything or anyone. By the end of camp counselors were literally dropping like flies because the camp abused the staff so badly. Forget about eating or sleeping, they don't let you do either b/c the child always comes first(which is how it should be) but if you're on your death bed you still have to slap a smile on your face b/c they won't even let you see the doctor. I have never been more sick or exhausted in my whole life. From the staff who went for a great time (but were quickly mistaken), to the abused horses and facilities all over camp that were falling apart. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE OR THINK ABOUT WORKING THERE. TYLER HILL IS THE WORST CAMP ALIVE!! RID: 15470
Click to report rating    8/24/07   1     1     1     1     1   My son had an awful experience here. The counselors and kids did not pay any attention to him and started crying when he came home. Jappy jappy jappy. Jappiest camp. RID: 14442
Click to report rating    8/22/07   3     4     2     1     1   okay so i went to tyler hill for two years. i kinda liked it the first yr i mean it was alright so i went back then that year IT WAS HORRIBLE mainly the people in my bunk THEY WERE SOO MEAN. yeppp WORST PLACE EVERRRR. RID: 14379
Click to report rating    8/7/07   5     5     5     4     4   While I respect the opinion of those who did not have a positive experience at THS, i can say that my son attended for seven years, was a junior counselor, and couldn't wait to go back each year. Like anything else, THC can't be all things to all people. I do think Andy makes a sincere effort to keep things running smoothly, and I do think he hand selects his counselors. My son would not be described as a jap, nor is he materialistic. He is of average atheletic ability, but loves sports and was encouraged to just have fun and try his best. He has made life long friends, developed confidence and maturity during summers at THC. While at camp, he was encouraged to try new things and step out of his "comfort zone" which I think contributed to his development. Many of the values learned at home, were reinforced at camp. Without question, it is expensive, but then again most of them are. If u are in a poition to spend money on a summer camp, THC is definitely worth looking into. RID: 13747
Click to report rating    5/13/07   3     3     3     1     3   I think camp is only good if you like your fellow campers i didn't Which caused me to have a horrible summer at THC. The other stuff might have been good but i was to occupied with trying to get everyone to leave me alone to notice. ALSO WAY TO EXPENSIVE OVER *$9000 And getting higher are you kidding me give the normal people a break. And i know people well say then dont come if its to expensive but if you want to go its kind of hard to get a kid to change his mind. I mean seriously Andy J.J come on! RID: 10785
Click to report rating    4/12/07   5     5     5     5     5   i just wanna say anyone who has a problem with is seriously messed up. How would you know what tyler hill was like, if you have never been. So, who cares if alot of people are "japs". There are all sorts of people at THC and everyone excepts everyone. This is the best place to be in the hole enitre world, and i have 4 words to say to anyone who 2 words to say to anyone who disagrees. "YOU SUCK"!! RID: 9665
Click to report rating    3/22/07   3     3     3     3     3   the camp is beautiful, but the facilities are horrible for the girls, but they don't care because they are too busy trying to impress their cocky guys. it is not what camp is about RID: 8876
Click to report rating    3/16/07   5     5     5     5     5   I looked at only one other camp until I found Tyler Hill and I fell in love with it. I made friends right away and the camp had lots to offer. The owners make sure everyone has the best experience & I did the best two years i've been there. I think anybody looking for a great camp that has everything from sports to arts & crafts should try Tyler Hill. RID: 8699
Click to report rating    2/27/07   5     5     5     5     5   THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING CAMP EVER!! the six summers that I have spent at Tyler Hill have been the best summers of my life. Although I've had some bad times at camp, I still keep going back. I have thought about doing other things over the summer, but I can't imagine doing anything else than camp. I have made such good friends of the years and I can't imagine not being with them. I must say that the reason I come back to Tyler Hill is definitely for the people because they are my family. And all you people who say that you hate Tyler Hill....YOU ARE INSANE! RID: 8158
Click to report rating    1/28/07   2     4     3     1     3   The kids were awful the one year I went there. Japs, jerks, and snobs is what I would like to call it. The facilities are very nice, and if your kid has that popularity "ego" to them then they'll like it. But for a new kid trying to make new friends, don't go to Tyler hill. The staff doesn't help out much either for the kids who aren't "popular." RID: 7308

10/27/06   5     5     5     5     5   Having been a camper and counselor for most of my childhood and early adult life, choosing a camp for my kids was a daunting task to say the least. My husband and I searched high and low to find the right camp that we felt shared our values in addition to having the right program that matched our kids needs. Tyler Hill is simply the best decision we have ever made for our children. My kids came home with such great stories about their friends, their counselors and their overall experience. In fact, even 2 months later it's all they talk about. I feel the staff at Tyler Hill has truly made such an impact on all 3 of my kids and they tell me they're planning on going back to THC forever. Click to report rating    9/11/06   1     4     4     1     2   my daughter went to this camp last summer and she came back miserable .after i started asking her how her summer was she burstout in tears and told me about it. None of the children there would even bother to talk to her. she made no close freinds and the counslers wuldnt pay attention to her if she tried telling them so. Also she referred to it as a "jap" camp. I learned that this means the girls there are very materialistic and fake. I would never send any of my children there again.
