Last year was my daughter's first year at a resident camp. Today we are taking her back for another week. She loved it! She made so many friends that she wrote to over the last school year. It is everything I loved about summer camp as a child, but more. There are many opportunities to experience something new. Our only dilemma is what to do with her younger sister who desperately wants to go, too, but is still too young. I cannot wait to hear her stories next weekend at pick up. And next year we will certainly be taking two excited girls to camp at Anokijig.

My son went to Anokijig in July 2012 for his first time. We were very nervous about him leaving. Before we made our decision about the camp we went to visit and got a tour and all our questions answered. We visited the camp for the second time while he was there, and he was having so much fun he hardly had time for us.( which was great). I highly recomend this camp it is a great place. Our child came home very happy and confident and asked can he go back next year. We are sending him back next summer. I am that parent that does research before I do anything, especially when it comes to my child. I also read all the reviews, hopefully mine helps someone. GO ANOKIJIG!

I first attended Camp Anokijig the summer after my 7th grade. I was very shy, and grieving the loss of my sister. These two facts only made it more difficult to make friends with the kids at my new school. My mom thought a trip to Camp might be a good getaway for me. Turns out, she was right. The staff was extremely inclusive, friendly, welcoming and caring. I quickly felt at home. I went back the next three summers--as a camper and later as staff. My brother continued the Anokijig tradition, and I have proudly seen him grow into a confident, big-hearted and responsible young man because of the guidance, friendships and inspiration that Camp has given him. Over the years, we have recommended Camp to many friends--each sharing in Camp's fun while taking home the understanding that the world is bigger than any of us, but each of us matters. I couldn't be more thankful to Anokijig for the positive and lasting affects it has made on our lives.

Extremely disrespectful staff. My child was vitimized by camp bullies and set up. Very unprofessional.

I sent my 12 yr old girl and 14 yr old boy to Anokijig, summer 2011. They loved it. I was a little apprehensive about sending them as I knew nothing about it, but they had a GREAT time, and I'm getting ready to send them again this year. The food was excellent, they raved about it, and the activities and people were great. Looking forward to another great week for my kids.

I've gone to camp 4 years now and this year I will be a Jr. Staff member for the first time. Everyone at camp is very welcoming its always a blast. There is so much to do there and you'll always find at least one activity that you will love. The facilities are very well kept and the staff are always there to help. Every week they'll have a different theme for a day and it just makes your experience there that much more memorable. camp anokijig holds countless amounts of fun and by the time the end of the week comes you won't want to leave! I can guaranty that when you leave camp you will take something with you and remember it always. I've made so many friends here and had some of the best times at this camp it's made me think so much better of myself. I've never heard of anything bad coming from here. This camp deserves a 5 star rating.

This is amazing, the staff is mostly made up of voulenteers that started as campers, if you want to know how much people love it there just look at the staff and how enthuiastic, well-trained, and dedicated to what they do. Anokijig has tons of activities; horseback riding, tons of boats, swimming, nature, dance, drama, archery, rifelry, arts&crafts, woodworking, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. My daughter can't wait to go back next summer.

My son will be going to Anokijig for his third year this summer. A friend of mine who works for Chicago Parent magazine recommended them to me. He started going when he was 8 and has LOVED every year. Anokijig is the real, old-fashioned camp experience I remember having growing up. It is rustic and lovely and my son came back from his first year filled with confidence, excitement and talking about camp songs, arts and crafts, hikes in the woods, canoeing and swimming and just could not have had a better time. The staff has always been very responsive and I feel like the counselors really make sure that all the kids make buddies and no one is left out. It's just a wonderful classic summer camp like something out of an old tv show or movie. I just don't think a lot of these places exsist anymore- I can't recommend it enough!!

Camp Anokijig is the best camp. I have been going there since I was 8 because my parents were sick of me. Now, they hate having me away so long because I love almost as much as them. I'm going to be staff there in two weeks and I am excited to give back to Anokijig. I have made so many friends in Anokijig and have learned so many new skills. They have skills from canoeing to archery to digital photography to land games. They have almost every outdoor skill you can think of. And the camp managers and directors are great people too. The only thing wrong with Anokijig is that it is only open in the summer.

When i was first introduced to Anokijig last year by my friend, I didn't really know what to expect, since I have never been to an overnight camp. Then the moment I got there, I instantly fell in love with it. I met so many friends, learned many new skills, and had outrageous fun. I have been counting down the day since 100 with my friend. Anokijig is one of the places I actually truly can call my favorite places ever. The new things I learned there has made an impact on my life. I can't wait until this summer!

I went to Anokijig for 8 years: first as a camper & later as staff. It's now been three years since I've been able to return. Nonetheless, not a week goes by (I'm not exaggerating) when I don't think about the Anokijig spirit. Camp made me who I am today, and for that I will always be grateful. Give Anokijig a try! It's the most magical place in the world. :)

My daughter has gone one week longer than the previous year for three straight years. She'd stay all nine weeks if we'd let her. She has forged great friendships with many of her fellow campers and staff and maintains contact with them throughout the year. We really like the rustic setting and think it does immeasurable good for these children to spend even one week, sleeping in a tent in the woods, versus the pampered life they live during the rest of the year. We only wish our parents sent us here when we were kids

All the people working at camp Anokijig were kind to everyone and created activities that everyone enjoyed. The main lodge is wonderful, the health lodge is perfectly designed, and all of the sleeping places are at least up to the normal for other camps, if not better. There are many activities for all interests, the newest being scrap booking and digital photography. There are also overnights within the camping week if you wish to go. If you ever need personal attention, both physically and mentally (like homesickness) there will always be someone to help. This camp is much cheaper than many other camps, and you can add extra money for you camper if you want them to go on horseback riding trail rides, get certain art projects from the art and crafts building, or if you want them to be able to buy extra snacks, clothing, and knickknacks from the camp store. Anokijig creates an emotional attachment to every camper that attends. This camp is what I look forward to every summer.

This camp has an amazing, old-fashioned view of teenagers as competent people. In addition, the premium on treating others well is a real plus.

We used to send our child to a "prestigious" camp in the Northeast. A friend in the Chicago-area suggested Anokijig, so we sent our child with theirs this past summer. We were more than impressed with this camp. The price (even with airfare) was far less than what we were paying in the Northeast and the facilities and staff are top-shelf. The camp is convenient to the Milwaukee airport, yet has a very isolated feel to it. The view on their lake is spectacular and I was told, the camp owns most of the water frontage, which helps give it an authentic northwoods feel. My child had a fantastic two weeks and now spends her days looking at pictures of the horses she rode and e-mailing the new friends she made. The main lodge is one of the most impressive log structures I've seen outside of Yellowstone. We also liked the fact that their equestrian facility was on-site, as our daughter seemed to spend most of her free time riding horses, which involved bus rides at her previous camp.

They have great staff-camper ratios, and most of the staff are great. The location is beautiful, the tents and cabins are clean and safe. There are SO many activities, and the kids get to choose what they do most of the time. They have 50-odd horses, an island in Little Elkhart Lake, riflery, archery, swimming, windsurfing, crafts, photography, not to mention adventure trips away from camp and specialty camps such as scrapbooking, fishing expeditions, and ranch. The food is AMAZING and everybody can always find something they like to eat. There is always a vegetarian option. Lengths of stay vary from 2 nights to 9 weeks. The staff care about your kids. The campers are from diverse religious, racial, and socioeconimic backgrounds. Though "Christian values" are listed as part of camp, this doesn't mean bible study and chapel. It means respect, responsibility, etc Campers can have the tendency to form cliques, but this is unavoidable, and there's always someone to be friends with. love it

such an incredible experience. the campers literally get to choose whatever they want to do for the whole day (so long as they stick with the morning activites for like an hour). that freedom is great. the horse program is so amazing. you are assigned a horse for the week - that's YOUR horse. you groom him and ride him every morning. you get this vibe of a connection at anokijig - the camp experience is really meaningful. there is literally every imaginable activity available - archery, any water sport or boat, art, drama, all kinds of sports, fishing, horses available for all campers in the afternoon, special day trips for camping or white water rafting...the list is endless. a truly wonderful summer camp.

Anokijig (Anna-Key-Jee) is a great camp. I have attended for the past four summers as a camper. The staff are, for the most part, helpful, friendly, and supportive. The camp facilities are nice, and it has a BEAUTIFUL location on Little Elkhart Lake. Campers stay in lodges or platform tents with other campers their age and staff. It is open to boys and girls ages 7-16 for about 9 weeks every summer. Although most campers do the traditional camp, there are day trips for things such as rock climbing, caving, and whitewater rafting, and weeklong trips to places such as Canada and Colorado. They also have a fantastic horse program with over 50 horses. For a small fee, campers can be part of Ranch or Circle A, weeklong programs that focus on riding and care. The other activities offered include Windsurfing, Swimming Lessons, Drama, Dance, Woodworking, Pellet Guns, Archery, Nature, Canoeing, LandGames, and more. I highly reccomend this camp to everyone.
