Click to report rating    5/28/19   5     5     5     5     5   My children (ages 3-9) love Camp Alvernia and beg to go back all year long. We travel from Queens so they can attend and it is worth it. The kids swim, play games, do arts and crafts, do boating, and just tons of other awesome activities. I pick them up and they are sweaty, dirty, and in great spirits. I’m always impressed with the professionalism and quality of the office staff and the counselors as well. There is clearly a commitment to a very high standard of excellence and professionalism. Best camp ever! RID: 52644

Click to report rating    7/15/18   1     3     4     1     3   The counselors are very sweet. The camp director has no clue. He is reactive to concerns, but not responsive. My child was there for two full summers. The first year was not awful, but clearly things needed work. First two sessions were okay, but then staff dwindled as they went on to other things. Never send a kid there for the last session--it's bare bones at most. The second year was a nightmare from the start. There was no communication and when finally challenged we were met with aggressive emails from the director. Thanks to very kind counselors we got through it, but I would never recommend this camp unless there is new leadership. RID: 51993
Click to report rating    7/1/14   4     4     4     4     3   The overall staff is fantastic, but the Director is a power hungry, intolerable person. I have never had a worse boss. I would consider looking elsewhere for camp strictly based off his performance as a leader and manager of the camp. RID: 47497
Click to report rating    6/25/13   1     1     1     1     1   Probably fun to go there, but do not do not do not work there. I would explain but you really have to see it to believe it. RID: 44897
Click to report rating    4/7/13   1     5     3     1     1   This camp was ill run. My child went there for 2 consecutive years. The first year was good. The second was awful. His second year he was in a group that was too old for him. Many of the children were mean and, because I paid in full for the summer, the director chose to do nothing about it. I dissuade anyone I speak to about going to this camp. Should you get lucky and get a good councilor your child will be happy. Should you get unlucky....you are stuck with an unhappy child for the summer. RID: 44203

Click to report rating    10/3/12   5     5     5     5     5   My 2 kids have been going to Camp Alvernia for years. I can't say enough good things about the camp itself, and the outstanding camp director and staff. My children look forward to camp all year, and we feel so fortunate that they can have this experience. They have made great friends, learned to sail, learned to swim, learned to kayak, learned hilarious (and cool) dances. Somehow, in the middle of summer fun, the staff manages to slide in a few ideas about personal integrity and being a good friend. My children come home joyful every single day of camp, and what more could a parent want? Whenever asked, I highly recommend this camp to other parents. RID: 42798
Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     4     5     5   My children love camp! They have been going for 4 years. It is a down to earth camp with a lot of fun activities. Being able to go boating or sailing is a plus. RID: 42796
Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   This was my daughters second year attending Camp Alvernia. She began at age 5 and absolutely loved her first summer and her second! I have since signed her up again and her younger sister for 2013! The staff is truely dedicated to the campers. It is what every camp should be. There is plenty of fun activities, amazing pools, respect fir everyone and being on the Long Island sound, how can you top that setting! Strict? Hmm not sure what the above raters were complaining about. Maybe they are misunderstanding that it is safety first. And I feel that it is a very safe place to send my children. There are rules in this world and that includes at camp too in order for all to have an amazing experience. Camp Alvernia, keep up the good work! We will be seeing you in 2013! RID: 42793
Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Alvernia is the best summer camp in America! I have been going to Camp Alvernia since the 1st and I just could not get enough! The staff at Camp Alvernia is made up of some of the most kind and thoughtful people I know. I have also made some of my closest friends at Camp Alvernia and his past summer was my last summer at Camp Alvernia and I was heart broken that I could not come back for sailing, baseball or basketball next summer. I have made memories that could last a lifetime and Camp Alvernia will always have a special place in my heart-Kyle Shouler RID: 42792
Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   This was my first time sending my 4 year old to a camp and I did it with MUCH trepidation. BUT I WAS SO HAPPY THAT WE CHOSE ALVERNIA! What a great, down to earth, summer camp. I saw some comments below about how the camp was "too strict". Well, I'm a parent and the safety of my daughter is paramount to any activity that is offered or counsellor hired. Ben has managed to combine fun activities with safety and that is the perfect combo in my book. My daughter came home safe and SO SO HAPPY every day and couldn't wait to go back EVERY DAY. We had to enroll her for another session because she wouldn't stop talking about it. If you want a camp that will instill good values and respect in your child this is your camp. If you want a camp that is good old fashioned fun. This is the camp for you. From the new pools to the boating and nature programs to outdoor games, sports and family activities - I am very much looking forward to sending her back next summer and she can't wait to go! Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   Absolutely fantastic camp, filled with warm, friendly professional staff members who go out of their way to make the kids feel at home. There are fun, varied activities with different themes every day, and the opportunity to become proficient at sailing! My son attended his first year of camp in 2012, and we will be returning for sure! RID: 42785
Click to report rating    10/2/12   5     5     5     5     5   My daugter absolutely LOVES this camp. It is run like a fine oiled machine by the very professional Ben Esposito who is wise beyond his years. The staff is fabulous and fun. The grounds are beautiful and my daughter always has great stories to share when she comes home. She loved the pools and all the specialty days they plan. Her other favorite thing is the snack bar and all the wonderful friends she meets including her counselors! The best part of this camp is the values they teach and the generousity it provides to all. THANK YOU!! RID: 42782
7/7/11   1     1     2     1     1   Ugh. I have been going to this camp since I was 5, and I made some of my closest friends there. When Brother Robert ran it, it was a great camp. But once he passed away and Ben took over, the camp's quality started to go downhill. For example: My friend's older brother was a CIT there. He got fired for doing absolutely nothing wrong. Also, last summer, I was a Seneca (the highest age group) but my friends were still Hurons (the one below seneca). Every morning before we said the pledge of allegiance, I would go hang out with my friends where the Hurons were. Of course, my counselor told me after a few days that I couldn't do that because each group was supposed to stay in their designated area. It's just like Ben to make up a rule that stupid. Anyway, I advise anyone who is thinking about going there next summer to NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAMP. Find a different one. RID: 36309
6/19/11   1     1     1     1     1   Alright, I've been going here since i was 4. I stopped my last year. (i would be a 2nd year seneca this year)It was awesome when brother robert was running it. It wasnt aimed towards cayugas only. They had fun activities then and great counselours. but when Ben came along it SUCKED. He fired the awesome counselours like that dance person, made it so strict and over protective.... ugh. When i was younger I couldnt wait to be a CIT but now id rather die because if you are sick ONE DAY, youre fired. Its way to expensive too. My overnight camp, which is more fun and way better everything, is less expensive. Alvernia is a day camp! lots of families are struggling, but for Ben, its all about the $$$. plus, he got rid of all the fun days like halloween day, completely forgot about Snoopy and Bailey for Hobbes and Juice, and added pointless activities. you cant even decide what activities you want to go to, so if you stink at dance, youre forced to make a fool of yourself. i hate alvernia!
