Click to report rating    9/8/20   5     5     5     5     5   This was our first summer sending our child to Deerkill, and we couldn't be happier or more impressed with the experience! Our child, like many others in Spring and early Summer 2020, had been having a difficult time, psychologically and emotionally, adjusting to life under pandemic restrictions. Deerkill was a lifeline and we were incredibly impressed with the care, thoughtfulness, and overall intelligent approach to camp under COVID exhibited by the directors and staff. The attention to detail and safety were paramount, and my child was able to both be safe, and have a really amazing and supportive summer experience. She was engaged in a wide variety of activities which balanced quieter camp staples like arts and crafts and ceramics with daily swimming, an adventure course, and sports (among many other activities). She loved being part of such a welcoming community. I can only imagine what things will be like when (hopefully) we have passed the pandemic point next summer! RID: 53301
Click to report rating    8/22/19   1     1     1     1     1   Sent our 3 yr old bc we wanted him to get outdoors for the summer and focus on playing. After consultation calls with their staff we felt as though this would be a good fit even though he was only 3. After only two days he was kicked out even though he had done nothing wrong. When asked for further explanations the response was "He is very sweet, but keeps trying to run to the bigger playgrounds, jump in the pool and would need 1:1 attention to keep safe." We then had to scramble to rearrange and found other camps who were shocked by the information and said they had none of these same concerns. We didn't even know this was a possibility and it ruined our summer. RID: 52846

3/27/17   5     5     5     5     5   We have two kids and it is going to be our 5th summer at Deerkill. They have been having a fantastic time. The counselors are fun and take a good care of them. The kids have a wide variety of activities to choose from. They made some friendships at camp and very eager to go back. As for us, the parents, we like knowing that kids are well taken care of while having fun outside and the pick up and drop off at home is priceless. The staff is easily available for a quick chat if you have any questions or concerns. The kids play a lot of different sports every day not to mention swimming twice a day. My kids also like woodworking and movie making classes. Yoga and Gaga among their favorites as well. In addition, the camp hosts a number of activities throughout the year to keep the kids in touch with each other. Overall, we have been having a very positive experience at Deerkill and highly recommend it. RID: 50567

9/22/15   5     5     5     5     5   It was my daughters second summer at Deerkill, and I cannot say enough about her experience! From the first day to the last, each day has been exciting for her. The staff, and the transportation staff are wonderful. Last year I was hesitant about putting a 5 year old on a bus for a 45 minute ride, but my hesitation soon dissipated. On the last day of camp, both last summer and this summer, she told me she wanted to go back next year. To me, this is the ultimate show that the camp was wonderful. Also, the family events they have during the off season are exciting and fun. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but well worth it. You need only send your child with two bathing suits on Monday (returned on Friday)...no muss, no fuss. They get photos, backpacks, a special gift (this year a water bottle), trips...No worries!! Great experience, great camp, great staff! I cannot think of one bad thing to say about Deerkill. I have a feeling my daughter will be going there for many years to come. RID: 49192

9/15/15   5     5     5     5     5   My two sons have been attending Deerkill for 7 and 5 years. Besides the wonderful facilities and amenities, the best thing about Deerkill are it's owners, administrators and staff. They are nurturing, approachable, thoughtful, and always thinking about the safety of their campers. Their communication with parents is the best I've seen from any organization. Each year the camp is updated so that there is always something new and exciting to experience. My kids arrive home happy and exhausted. The best part of MY summer is always when the kids are at Deerkill!! :) RID: 49182

Click to report rating    9/9/15   5     5     5     5     5   I think this is an amazing camp that kids can come to and have a great time doing many different activities. They get a club period where they can pick whatever they want in the camp to do. The facilities and the staff are great I highly recommend this camp RID: 49163
Click to report rating    9/8/15   5     5     5     5     5   I went to the camp for 12 years and highly recommend it to anyone, it helped me to grow as a person and gain great friendships and many memories. RID: 49162
Click to report rating    9/8/15   5     5     5     5     4   Deerkill is a camp where the staff truly cares, where the kids are always laughing, and where everyone is always having fun! RID: 49160
Click to report rating    9/2/14   5     5     5     5     5   This was my son's first year, he had an incredible experience. My usually painfully shy child has become outgoing. The counselors are amazing and friendly. The lifeguards taught my child to swim and pass his deepwater test, this is a child who was afraid of the water. The only thing I would change is allowing to tip the counselors, they did an incredible job and I wish I could thank them properly. The owners are hands on and really give it a family owned feeling. My other kids have been to some of the best camps (that cost a lot more), but this is where we will return from now on. RID: 47946
Click to report rating    7/11/14   3     4     4     3     3   This had been a good camp experience for us for the last few years. But some of what attracted us seems to be declining. I've received some complaints about rude treatment by a new counselor this Summer (2014) from my child. I've also experienced extreme shortness on the phone when I've called the main office. It seems like they really don't want to hear from parents. RID: 47569
Click to report rating    9/10/13   5     4     5     5     5   I've been going to this camp for 8 years now, and yeah I guess it's true there are bugs in the bunks and bees around the camp and such, but hey it's an outdoor campus! I really loved all the staff, they all get along with each other and love to crack jokes. Deerkill has really ensured that they hire counselors interested in working with kids, are passionate, enthusiastic and have some sort of higher education. A majority of them are even 18+. The food is surprisingly enjoyable, and considered a delicacy compared to public school lunches. Ice cream in the afternoon, fresh fruit, milk (chocolate and white) and even cookies! Their activities are always fun, and counselors and administration are willing to be flexible with the Senior and older group's schedule. This is a cozy environment that offers education, and entertainment. It's location not to mention, is perfect for those looking to be away from the city, but close enough to get there if needed. I'm in love with this camp. RID: 45964

Click to report rating    7/20/11   5     5     5     5     5   This is a great day camp that offers tremendous value and fun. Both my kids had a great time. It is not fancy (it's camp!) but there are plenty of activities and little ones have their own bunkhouse and play area. There are covered areas for rainy day activities. Lots of camp spirit/events. My son actually loved the food and became more willing to try new foods after going to Deerkill. Very down to earth, normal kids and families from NJ/Rockland. Attentive, warm, well spoken staff. Click to report rating    10/9/10   1     1     1     1     1   I went to this camp when I was really little and I enjoyed it a lot. However, I went back this summer and it was just awful. This camp is not recommended for children over the age of 8. It's sooo boring, the camp is really small, the counselors are not nice, and there's just nothing fun to do there. As soon as I stepped off the bus I was counting the hours until I could go home again. Also, the food is DISGUSTING. I don't know why anyone would waste their time going to day camp anyway if they are over the age of 10. Sleepaway camp is soo much better. RID: 34211

4/26/08   3     4     4     2     3   I went to this camp when i was very young. I remember i enjoyed the activities and facilities, but the staffing was not fantastic. My group was run by CITs and i got separated from my group twice. It was a large campus and i was very overwhelmed and frightened. When i reached my group (in tears) it appeared the CITS had not even noticed that I had been separated. This was a while ago, so i am not positive if the staffing is still like this. The camp is extremely pricy as well. There was some form of freedom for campers. For example they could choose to play on computers rather than archery. RID: 22694
Click to report rating    9/17/07   5     5     5     5     5   umm yeah well i have probably been there longer than most of the staff but it is the best camp ever. i have met some of the best people there [and not just campers] it does get a little boring but you find ways to entertain yourself. I met my best friends there. i'll be going there till im old fersure :] RID: 15390

Click to report rating    3/11/07   1     1     1     1     1   worst camp ever!!! activities are no fun and the counselors treat you like a baby. if you have any independence, DON'T go there. not recommended for children over 8 years old, and even 8 is pushing the limits. At 9 years old, I stopped going. But that Summer was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOo boring. I felt like a baby with the way they treated me. RID: 8538
