This camp is life-changing. I have attended the camp (as camper and staff) for 9 years and hope to continue my connection with it for my entire life. This camp builds young leaders with self-confidence, humility, many skills and so many new friendships. The camp activities are for everyone, whether your child is sporty or artistic, and they get to choose new activities everyday, so campers never get bored or can pursue one activity that they really love. Every night after dinner there are camp wide evening programs that really bring everyone together. Campers face their fears and sing, dance, and act (usually very silly) in front of the camp. Otterdale is unique because all ages are together so older campers learn how to be a leader naturally, and younger campers always feel included. The staff give amazing personal attention to each camper and have excellent training to deal with issues that may arise. Overall, this camp is incredible and your child would be lucky to attend.

the good - activities, the bad - food (frozen type, not very healthy), and the ugly (many). kids are not allowed to have cell phones, means they can't call/txt home. I think in 21 century that is quite strange. they can't use internet (couple of PCs will access for kids to send email?) and camp is CHARGING parents to send emails to kids!!! Min charge is $7 (7 credits), one credit per email. which should be deliver to kid next day. Not always the case! Now the sanitary conditions - that is really disgusting! "community" toilets (few hols next to each other, no separation!) showers? i think they may need to lookup dictionary. my kids didn't have chance to take shower for a week! and we're talking 15 years old girls... apparently "schedule mess" was the cause. Accommodation, bunk beds cabins full of holes, unsafe staircases (especially after rain), no railings?..Overall - In my opinion "captain" should fix few things and re-think certain rules. Time is changing Mr. Captain!! 2016 camp...

This summer will be my 8th at Otterdale. I went for four years as a camper and it will be my fourth as a staff. When I was a camper I had a love hate relationship with camp. I always went back every year, because even though I didn't really make friends, the activities and staff provided a place of emotional healing that prepared me for a new school year without fail. I will always love Otterdale. Jeff is one of my most important mentors. My best friends and my hardest laughs and my biggest growth I can all attribute to this camp. Not everyone is perfect, but people try pretty damn hard to make this place a perfect place. Otterdale is my soul. Otterdale is my life. Do your kids a favour and send them here. Otterdale saved my life when I was 13 and it has saved it again and again every year.

My son loves this camp. Especially the staff and the attention they give to everyone. Activities are superb and many to choose from The only negative is the bunks where they sleep. Not insulated so it tends to get really hot (especially if you're on the top bunk) or really cold. Needs to be upgraded.Other than that, I highly recommend this camp for all.

My 9 year old is headed back for his third year of overnight camp and absolutely can't wait. This was his motivation to pull his grades up in January and boy did he ever. Would not risk going to Camp Otterdale! Loves the food, the counselors, and just the whole experience in general. My daughter will start day camp this summer as a 6 year old and just cannot wait. All in all we are huge fans.

I truly believe that if children do not enjoy this camp, they will not enjoy any camp.
When I first looked at camp otter dale I thought the price was a bit steep and I thought the bunk houses and bathrooms were a bit austere. After I compared it to other camps, I changed my mind!! Camp O is prime!
I now understand the safety of the children and the inclusion of all campers goes a lot into the design of the camp.
Both my children love it and cannot wait to go back every year. In fact when my daughter was 8 she tried it for 1 week, just to get her feet wet and she was disappointed when I came to pick her up This camp is one of the best for value. There are so many activities to choose from and because Camp O follows the Red Cross swimming program, my kids go through the levels without paying extra.
Last year my 11 year son fell off his bunk (he was goofing around) and he needed stitches. The counselors were very attentive, did not waste any time taking him to the ER and called m

Great friends, great people...can't ask for more in a camp. These people truly care and do a great job at what they do. First rate staff, quality food and a wealth of activities for all ages of kids and all levels of skill. I highly recommend Camp Otterdale for your kids. They will make friends and want to come back again and again!

I don't understand how people cannot enjoy this camp. The snobbiness I read about doesn't exist, the staff aren't rude or bullies, its a summer camp so you can't expect five star restaurant quality. The kids are in no way "creepy", trees fall deal with it, thunderstorms aren't exactly a fault for a summer camp, and the games are only bored if you aren't a camper, just somebody who wants to go home.

Third child now attending this camp. They all (two girls and one boy) LOVE it so much! Love that they can choose their activities daily, love the food (weird that one comment said it wasn't good as I have three very different eaters) and I love that there is a swim lesson required. There aren't enough weeks in the summer according to them all- would go the entire time if they could!

It used to be a great camp, but every year, Jeff (captain) seems to be hiring people who just don't care about the campers. Hire Staff, not over aged bullies.

I went in 1986, Michael Southam (owner) at the time took me to the clinic in Smith Falls for my sore throat and afterwards to the Dairy Queen. Never forgot that. Great camp, great memories.

Won't go into much, so much I could, will just say if you enjoy being surrounded by over-indulged rich snobs, have fun! My advice, go elsewhere.

Camp O is a place where you can become a new person, a new you, surrounded by friends of your age, laugh with people you care about, and have the experience of a life time. The food is great, the high staff to camper ratio, as well as well trained staff keep the area safe, and the seemingly limitless activities make staying at Camp Otterdale a fantastic experience.

Wow. I love this camp. Went four summers as a camper, hopefully I'll make it on staff for this summer. It seems steap ($-wise) at first, but it's all good value, and worth it. The food is excelltn, and you get the choice of insane activties. It's such an amazing experience. First go-ers: Don't be put off by the two-week lenght. It goes by much too fast, and it's hardly ever a problem, even with younger campers. I think they should extend to a 3 week option. A month is a little long. Jeff (Capt'n) is great and the councellors are so much fun. Have a blast :)-
