Click to report rating    10/7/16   5     3     5     2     5   This is an honest review. My time at Deerhorn was the best time of my life, it truly is an amazing place, that said every section does not deserve 5/5. Anyone who says Deerhorns facilities deserve a 5 out of 5 are wrong, you stay in an old cabin with spider webs and old stained wood, the bathrooms are gross and not in the best locations, that said, sparkling bathrooms and bedrooms are not what camp is about. If your son cant stand a little dirt then dont send him here. Deerhorn teaches kids to be tough because they might not always have the luxury of a queen bed and clean place to stay. Also if your son NEEDS one on one attention constantly dont send him here. If it is for a medical reason that is different, Deerhorn medical staff is amazing and your son will be in the best hands. But if your son is scared of water or sports then dont send him here. Deerhorn is about learning to make friends on your own. I gave the other sections 5 because they deserve is and and are amazing. Click to report rating    8/24/16   1     1     4     1     1   My so went to camp in Session D. When I inquired about the menu, the response was its "kid friendly". When I asked more and told the camp about a picky eater the assured me there were options. Only one entree, salad bar if you didn't like that Saltines were your option. I emailed the camp 3 times to ensure my son was eating. He came home weighing 7 lbs lighter. I doubt much stock was put into my concerns. When I reached out the Barbara, she took no ownership and basically said, we can't supervise each meal. My son ate a few things offered. The other lunches and dinners he survived on saltines. Ask the camp how many saltines they go through, 2 boxes a meal bc that's all they'll allow. Saltines! Kids where going crazy over them bc they were hungry. That s a big problem. Don't send your kid here unless they are will eat just anything. The management doesn't care. Very disappointed. RID: 50006
Click to report rating    6/19/13   5     5     5     5     5   I am a 14 year old camper who has gone to this camp for four years and 2013 will be my fifth. When people ask me what I'm doing this summer I of course mention my next five weeks. They then ask what Deerhorn is and I guess I write a lot and people joke about how much I love this camp. This camp is not just a place for boys to go and shoot some bows or play basketball, this is a place where boys become men. I have personally experienced this. My first two years I hated the words of wisdom and campfires. However, my last two years changed me. I started to listen and learn from words of wisdom and It became one of my favorite parts of camp. Then there's the campfires. I realized that it's not just boys sitting around a fire, it's a family sitting around a fire enjoying some amazing music with your best friends. The boys at this camp are the most amazing people I've ever met. The staff cares so much about every person at the camp. Deerhorn isn't just a camp, it's a home away from home. RID: 44818
Click to report rating    6/12/13   5     5     5     5     5   Best camp ever. Will change your life for the better, and is the most rewarding experience that I have ever had in my life. I've been to other camps, and none of them compare to Camp Deerhorn. RID: 44743
Click to report rating    11/22/12   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp more than 10 years ago. It was one of the best expierences of my life! The staff was tramendous, the fellow campers became good friends. This camp teaches some of the best values in such a fun way. I hope i can make it up there in the next couple years just to see it again! RID: 43086
Click to report rating    8/18/12   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp the last 6 summers. It is awesome. The older campers were great to me, and now its been my turn to be a big brother to young campers and its great. The campfires are great with campers playing guitars and campers signing if they want. To bel able to swim , waterski, to shoot 22's, to play capture the flag with 100 boys is great. RID: 42431
Click to report rating    1/1/12   2     3     3     2     2   We sent our son to the one week session. He was placed in a cabin with boys 7-11 years old. Our son was on the younger side and was bullied and picked on in his cabin by older campers. The cabin was frequently unsupervised by the counselors. It was very disappointing. Also, we noticed that the children can wear whatever they want including their pj's all day. The camp lacks discipline and the rifle range was not well maintained (safety issue). Would NOT recommend this camp. RID: 37595
Click to report rating    2/5/11   5     5     5     5     5   BEST CAMP EVER. The relationships you make at camp will outlast all your other friendships you make in life RID: 35024
Click to report rating    1/27/11   5     4     5     5     5   A wonderful place to assist in turning your young boy into an outstanding young man. Staff is carefully selected, and is the key to the experience. Most are former campers. Third generation family run camp. A great investment in your son's future. RID: 34950
Click to report rating    7/30/10   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Deerhorn is the greatest place in the world. I've been going for seven years, and no where else have I seen a staff as great as Deerhorn. Many different countries are represented, and the cultural diversity I think really enhances the experience and helps the campers learn even more. It's definitely ten times better than Camp Horseshoe. Everyone should experience Deerhorn, for it is truly a one of a kind place. Hook 'em Horns. RID: 33566

Click to report rating    1/7/10   5     5     5     5     5   I started to Camp Deerhorn with my son 8 years ago for Father-Son Camp. It was the best time I have ever spent with my son. Since then I go back every summer with both of my sons, and they each stay for 7 weeks of camp. All they talk about from the day they get home until we leave the following summer is Camp Deerhorn. The Broadbridges (family owners since 1930) crate a family atmosphere in which every child is treated with respect and understanding as they teach boys how to grow in to men. We consider the staff of Camp Deerhorn our family, and every summer it's like going home again. This is truly a special place, a true "Boyhood Adventure"! RID: 31846
Click to report rating    2/4/09   5     5     5     5     5   I went to Deerhorn as a camper in the 1990's and have been back every year since my first. The directors are amazing with children and the activities are fun for every kind of kid. My best friends are all my former camp friends and we all still stay in contact. This will be my 13th summer at deerhorn and there is no place in the world that I would rather spend my summer. It is a truly inspiring place! RID: 28831

Click to report rating    3/4/08   2     3     3     1     1   the staff doesnt control other campers when they make fun of other campers. the staff sometimes joins in. some of the facilites are run down and worn out. there is NO personal attention. the amount of money you pay to go there you should go spend it elsewhere. RID: 20905
Click to report rating    7/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   I went to Deerhorn in the 1970's; my oldest son went there in the 1990's; and my youngest will go there in the 2010's! It was a great experience for me....I wasn't talented at traditional sports, and found great success at swimming and sailing and other things - eventually went on in adult life to compete in triathlons, hike the John Muir Trail out of Yosemite, etc. My oldest son WAS talented at the big stick and ball sports and had an equally great time at Deerhorn. Every boy can find a place there. I would recommend the camp highly. RID: 13425
