Click to report rating    6/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   My boys have been attending Green River Preserve for five years. It offers an experience unlike most other camps in North Carolina. If you have a child who is adventurous and curious, this is a great camp for them. A love of the outdoors is helpful however if your child doesn't have an appreciation for the outdoors and nature before coming to GRP, they surely will by the time they leave. I cannot recommend this camp enough, but do your homework and make sure to fit the camp to the child. RID: 44798
Click to report rating    4/20/12   5     5     5     5     5   GRP has been a special part of my extended family's life for over a decade.  Two nephews, a neice, and both my daughters have grown up going to base camp and experiencing the expeditions as teens.   The nuturing experience they've had a GRP is nothing less than life-changing. Compassion, self-reliance, and trust are just some of the values they have come away with.  GRP is a place of learning, my daughters' place to fully connect with nature and friends, where there are none of the distractions of life in the suburbs: iPads, cell phones, internet, TV, the mall.  I wish all children everywhere had a place like GRP. Click to report rating    7/21/10   5     5     5     5     5   As one poster said, the GRP is like a home away from. This can easily be seen by the longevity of the staff members--I would guess that about 2/3 of the staff members used to be campers. The camper-to-staff ratio is incredibly good, ranging from nearly 1-1 on the less full sessions to about 3-1 on the full sessions. The food is always great! The staff are always enthusiastic and is just as much into the camp spirit as the campers. As a camper and as a staff member, the most important thing to me was/is the "Woodcrafter Laws," which serve as the ideology of the camp. On the first day of camp, the campers do what is known as the "respect circle" with the directors, where everyone promises to be respectful towards everyone else (this is taken very seriously by both the campers and the staff), allowing everyone to try new things without having to worry about being made fun of. The GRP is well worth its semi-high price and scholarships that can cover up to almost-full tuition are available! RID: 33404

Click to report rating    2/10/08   5     5     5     5     5   Words cannot describe this place...but it calls to me everyday and I havent even been there since '05-although hopefully I'll be back as a staffmember this summer---watch out! seriously though...this place is a unique utopia. I miss everything about it terribly...a wonderful place! RID: 20102
Click to report rating    2/6/08   5     5     5     5     5   There is only one camp for me: The GRP. Those who have not been can't really understand, but the GRP is the home away from home for countless campers; there is no place I'd rather be. If you're a camper, chances are you have the time of your life (The people! the places! the beauty! the fun! the food! the everything!) and then you come back to work there ... There's just no way to get enough of the GRP. If you're looking for a camp, just go the GRP. You won't regret it, and you'll want to go back summer after summer. I've never laughed so hard with just the sheer joy of being alive as I have at the GRP. RID: 19930
