I went to camp Ma He Tu for the month of July for four summers. So did my two daughters when the youngest turned 7. I loved it! They loved it! It was the highlight of my and their childhood.

Absolutely the best camp I have ever been to. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and kindness, all while getting in touch with nature and having a blast. I recommend this camp for children of all ages. I have gone for several years now, and feel right at home. The activities are so fun and most people fit right in. I miss it a lot, and cannot wait to go back this year!!! 4 months :D

Camp Ma He Tu was my first ever sleepaway camp. To be honest, I wanted to go back home on the first few days of camp, because I was very homesick and felt lonely. But soon, I began to bond with my tent mates and things were starting to get better. I was having lots of fun with my new friends and I became a bit less shy with the people I've met. I absolutely hated the upper camp's bathroom due to the smelly toilets and spiders. What can I say, I was a city girl. I was also unimpressed by the fact that we had swimming sessions almost everyday. I wished it was optional, but I couldn't do anything about it. The staff are really friendly and outgoing. I was there two summers ago and was disappointed when my session was over. I wished to go back, but never had the chance to.

camp ma-he-tau is the best summer camp that any girl could ever go to. This year was my 2nd year going to camp and I can't stop thinking about it! I met the best friends you could have there and the counselors are amazing. They aren't afraid to be crazy and insane with the campers and they are super nice. COME TO CAMP MA-HE-TU!!!! P.S the activities r the best!!!

I attended this camp as a youth, and was thrilled to learn as an adult that it is still going strong! When my 7 year old daughter begged to go to sleep-away camp, Ma-He-Tu was what I thought of. We signed her up for a 2-week session. We got a total of 2 letters from her, and one from her counselors!- she was having so much fun she didn't want to stop the activities to write to us. She came home, and then begged us to go back for the final 2 week session. It is now mid-January, and if I had a dollar for every time she happily referred to a camp experience, I could pay for her camp sessions this coming summer! This is great, genuine, summer camp, sleep-away fun. There is an amazing sense of tradition there, and good values are taught by example. Love this place!

I'm really surprised some people said bad things about this camp. This year will be my fourth year coming, and it's amazing!! The counselors are all REALLY nice, encouraging and welcoming. Though some girls might not like the toilets, I've been to a camp where it was 2 steps down from that so they're really nothing to complain about. Other than that, the facilities are really great. I especially like the dining hall, how it's open like it is. Of course there's a roof, but the walls are open. Also, the activities were tons of fun! Though some of the activities may have an age limit, all of the activities you can do regardless of your age are amazing. This camp will forever be in my heart. ? MA-HE-TU ?

This is an AMAZING place for girls between the ages of 7-15 to spend their summer. It's been 11 years since I was a camper there, but I'll never forget the experience. The friends I made there are lifetime friends. The activities were traditional idyllic summer camp type stuff -- canoes on the lake, arts n crafts, theater, hikes, etc. This is a no-frills kind of place, but it's a wonderful, character building and nurtuting environment.

This summer coming up will be my 6th summer at camp ma he tu and I'm so glad to be a part of it. When I first came, I was afraid that the other girls would already know each other and be friends, while I would be left out, as I cam as an older camper at 13. But it was not like that at all. I found myself being welcomed by my fellow campers and counselors, and now have some of the best friends I've ever met there. This year will be my second year as a counselor, and I plan on continuing to return every summer to not only see the staff but to see my campers as well. I think that as a counselor, I try to make it as fun as possible, just as the whole staff did for me when I was younger.

My granddaughter is a 3rd generation camper @ Ma-He-Tu and loves it. I attended as a camper, kitchen girl and counselor. My two daughter attended for a few years even after we moved out of New York. My daughter and I couldn't think of a better place for my granddaughter to attend then Ma-He-Tu and she loves it. She looks forward to attending every year.. Tradition is a valuable piece of life. The camp director has had Ma-He-Tu in her heart for over 4o years. That speaks volumes to me. For I am Ma-He-Tu born and Ma-He-Tu bred and when I die I'll be Ma-He-Tu dead. It is a part of my life that changed me. If you are thinking of sending your daughter try going with her to Women in the Woods. You will enjoy it.

Reading these other reviews, I was quite shocked to hear some negative comments, but I do believe that camp is not for everyone. However I would have to say that Ma He Tu is my favorite place in the world. I have been going here since I was 9 and will come for my 7th summer this year. After I plan to be on staff. Everyone at Ma He Tu is nice and compassionate and i've never felt comfortable. It makes you a more open, confident person. Okay, so maybe people don't like the rustic theme, but tradition is a big part of what makes this place so special. It is nice to get away from tv, computers and all the other materalistic distractions of the world and just enjoy yourselves in a very real way. Ma He Tu has changed me in so many ways and I would reccomend it to anyone. I believe that everyone can benefit from going to a camp and if you're a girl from the age of 7-15 this is by far the best place to do it. I plan on going to ma he tu and keeping it part of my life as long as I can.

My cousins took me to camp when I was in 8th grade, and I wish I'd known about it sooner! The counselors were incredibly friendly, welcoming and encouraging. We met some awesome girls that I will never forget. I loved celebrating my favorite holidays in the summer! I loved being in the middle of the woods. I came back and brought my cousin two years later, and she still loves it! I would go to camp in the summer, and the rest of the year I would say, "I want to go to camp!" Camp is not just a place to send your kids over the summer. It's about introducing your daughter to a new family where she's welcome and encouraged every day. It's because of camp that I am confident enough to be myself around others and to make new friends. This is especially good, because now I'm a college student applying for jobs. I wouldn't give anything for my time at camp, because I am the friendly, enthusiastic (and more outgoing) person I am because of camp!

In today's world of hype, splash, and glitz, Mahetu stands alone for its committment to genuine values. Yes, it's rustic and no, it's not posh. But the community here is so commited to the campers and to the space, which is lovely. When I dropped my girls off, I was surprised to meet so many people who had been connected to the camp for so long - some for three generations! It is a small place, which limits the activities, but my children cam home full of stories of swimming, tons of arts & crafts and a seemingly endless list of fun after dinner activities - the staff is not afraid to be silly and crazy with the kids! I was impressed with the director - very responsive to my concerns and I never felt like I couldn't contact her. I really liked the girls-only aspect - my girls get enough social pressure to appeal to boys all year. I liked that it was Christian, but not in a zealous way. Perfect values, fantastic people, reasonable price. My children can't wait to return!

I hated it,one word for the bathroom's DISGUSTING.I didnt do half of the activities they said i would. And the girls in my cabin were a nightmare!the counselers once made 12 to 13 year old girls run in the dark flashing flash-lights in there face mean while it was about 10 at night just because they were loud during sleep time. The food wasnt that great.I fell so many times climbing the rocks up to the cabin and tent area. You could crack your head open especially if its raining. The lake is SO DIRTY!The only fun i had were the skits and plays.I didnt feel comfortable there.
