I went to Camp Huckins when I was in middle school from summers 2011-2012. It was the most horrific experience I have ever had at a summer theatre camp. The first issue I had was the horrendous amount of bullying I received. Both years I was there, there were multiple girls in my cabin who were in “the popular crowd” and if you were not a part of that crowd, you were completely left alone. Girls were constantly ganging up on me and none of the adults were doing anything about it despite their “very strict no bullying policy.” Which leads me to my biggest issue. Almost all of the counselors and staff were extremely rude and mean to the campers. There were multiple days where I or other campers were bawling hysterically because we were yelled at or embarrassed publicly by other adult staff members in front of the entire camp. They also play EXTREME favorites and it’s very obvious if you are not one of their favorites. Camp Huckins is the only camp I regret going to in my childhood.

I attended this camp several years ago and did not fully understand how bad my experience was until I was an adult. I probably made one friend in 6 years all because there was a group of girls who, for whatever reason, were incredibly rude and catty. The staff protected these girls relentlessly regardless of what they said or did. The way the camp itself is structured is... weird, I guess, because you always get stuck with fixed activities, and literally no one wanted to do them. In my 6 years attending Huckins, the staff never seemed to realize that nobody liked half of the things they had to do, even though they were paying to be there. There are so many better camps you could send your kids to, trust me.

This camp is absolutely amazing. Huckins is all about gaining and growing self confidence and independence. You make life long friendships, incomparable to anywhere else. The staff is carefully selected to give campers the best experience possible. The counselors are very positive and fun to be around. Not only that, but they are always there to support and listen to you if you are having a problem. The range of activities is large, so there is something for everyone. While some of the girls are a little cliquey, there are always campers that are more than happy to make new friends. Camp really teaches you to be yourself without shame, and to bring that back home with you to your every day life. Camp has been a huge factor in the person I am today, and I would definitely recommend.

I am a parent of 2 girls who have been attending this camp for 6 years. Words can’t describe how fantastic this camp is! It is a wonderful safe place for girls to connect, build lifelong friendships, and explore so many exciting activities. I’m told the food is awesome, and I did notice my girls looked healthy and well fed after 2 weeks there. The hardest part as a parent is dealing with the tears and begging to go back for a couple of days after the fun is over. As for girls feeling excluded, it did happen a couple of times with my daughters. I think the counselors handled it well, but no child should feel that way at camp! If Huckins needs for work on anything, I would say training the counselors to quickly identify and address these situations before a child is hurt is imperative. This is a place to build our girls up, and no one should go home feeling excluded.

I'm going to be a huckster this year, and huckins is my FAVORITE place in the entire world. Some of the reviews here say there are cliques, but if you have a positive attitude, you will see that everyone is super nice. Plus the food is amazing! We all love Joel!!

while I may be a tad bias camp Huckins is my favorite place in the world. for many, many reasons. first it meant a lot to me before I even went my mother went there and so did my older sister does too and I plan to have my kids go. the staff are AMAZING and they should be because they take a lot of care in choosing the staff. the food yet again amazing,I don't get it cooking for 600 people the food should be cheap and gross but exactly the opposite!!!! everything and I mean EVERYTHING is spectacular. Huckins hearts to all!!

The cabins are clean and there are plenty of activities. The counsellors are fantastic and it's just a great place to spend 2 weeks.

Counselors choose favorites, and most of the campers are really clique-y and not nice at all. They don't make new campers feel welcome. I wouldn't go back.

camp huckins is the best!!last year was my first year and the staff was sooo nice about it.Before you went to bed they would hug every one and were just really nice and kind.You become friends with your cabin right away!and no one gets really mad at each other but if there is a problem the staff help you and make shure your having a good time.I LOVE BV<3:)

Oh my gosh. Not like the WORST camp ever, but definitely not good. I made a LOT of great friends there, but the counselors pick favorites, the activites are tiring and NOT fun. They put on this act of being nice (the counselors), and the counselors asked back are all people who were obviously "popular" people. Meaning pretty, exclusive, and MEAN. Also, this camp is also 99.9999999% white. meaning i think I've seen one or two other people of a different race there in ALL my years of going. uh... wierd. If you want your daughter to have a great camp experience where she can be free and learn good life lessons, this is not the right camp for you to send her.

i really tried hard to like this camp, but couldnt. The staff picked favorites and many of the girls in my cabin were exclusive and downright mean. The staff were also uptight and if you did the littlest thing you would get in trouble. I would not recommend going to this camp without being accompnied by a friend, or else you will end up being excluded. Also, dont even bother going if you are not going to be a junior because you will not know how it works and be teased. In the swimming area, you always have to swim with a buddy which is annoying. There are also lots of spiders in the cabins. The only good thing is the food, and you dont get enough.

Awesome camp. I've been going for three years and I love it. Fun, creative environment with a lot of activities; organized, and unorganized. I absolutely suggest this camp for any girl that's 8-15. It's never too late to start!

Ummmm I don't know how to put into words what this camp means to me!!! I moved from Massachusetts to Minnesota, but camp remained a constant for me! I have met some of the best girls in the world there (Tatum, winter, Molly, Emma, Robin, Shea, Liza <3) and it is a great experience for anyone who is in their right mind! don't be a downer and hate people, and you will be fine (be Nellie!). people hating on this camp are a little crazy, no offense to them... ~Claire

i love camp Huckins. It is amazing. i become closer with girls there in 2 weeks than I ever have with friends I've known my whole life. Throughout the year too i even get "camp sick" because i miss it soo much.Each day at camp I laugh my heart out and make stronger bonds. when I come back home i cry my eyes out because i already miss every part of Huckins.it is an incredible camp and cannot imagine why anyone wouldn't love it

This is going to be my 4th year at camp and I can not wait to go back! The staff are very nice there is only one time I had a bad experience with the staff but they did not let her come back next year. The activitys are great and the personal attention is well if you need it. As of this year they have an anoymus box and you write in it if you need to talk to them personally. It is worth the money. If you are thinking about a camp for your daughter send her here.

I LOVE CAMP NELLIE HUCKINS! if u dont, i dont know why u wouldnt, unless u got stuck with bad people, but i dont think there r any bad people at this camp, i went there this summer and loved it (summer of 2008)! I cant wait to see if i bcome a counsuler. I RECCOMEND THIS CAMP TO ANYONE WHO LOVES FUN!

Both my girls have gone here for the last 3 years. They are very different people and they both love this camp! The counselors are great and my girls love the food, cabins and activities. They are happy, so I am happy!

OH MY GOSH 2 years ago I went to this place and I had the WORST TIME EVER!!!! The activities were stupid, it was unfair, and they sent me away early because THEY THOUGHT I WAS A FREAK! ok just because I was showing my true feelings about the camp (should be called prison) through my face doesn't mean I was a freak and I HATE every person in the staff for what they did!!! DON'T GO THERE!!

They changed the staff in my cabin, which was really hard on all the girls, and the replacement counselor was HORRIBLE, she was brand new and she farted 24/7... During the free period, there was nothing to do. I didn't have any friends. :( bad camp... never go there... trust me... i know i'v learned my lesson!

I love camp! Its the best place the counslers do not pick favorites and theats what I like. The jons are a little dirty. You have so much fun at activities. I would spend my money here. Even though I have one year bad try again!

My two daughters went to Camp Huckins
for the first time the summer of 2007, and
loved it. They made wonderful new friends.
They really liked their counselors. The girls enjoyed the waterfront, the sports field,
the indoor sports complex, arts & crafts, and more. They also loved going with their cabin in the evening for a pontoon ride on the lake. The setting was beautiful. Both girls had breathtaking lake views from their cabins.
We think Huckins is great!

i've gone to huckins for eight summers and these have been the best summers of my life. i've met many nice girls there, some of whom are my closest friends. i started going when i was nine although i do suggest going with a friend for the first year. this camp is absolutely amazing!!!

Out of a scale of only 5s, Camp Huckins should get 10s. There is no way to describe this camp: it is utterly amazing; there is NEVER a dull moment. It would not be what it is without its amazing staff that are there because they want to be, not because of the money they are making. They WANT the girls in their cabin to have a good time, they WANT their campers to love camp just like they themselves do. It would be a crime to deny your daughter of 2 weeks at Huckins, and if she's lucky it will turn into 9 when she is asked back to be a counselor. There is no other camp worth attending then Huckins. Period.

I went to this camp for 13 years and it made me into a strong and flexible leader. How many other 30 year old women know how to right a swamped canoe, shoot a bow and arrow AND weave a basket. It's been 15 years since I attended camp and I still keep in touch with my friends from there. Camp Huckins is an amazing place to give girls and young women a chance to learn new things and be themselves. Camp is not for everyone but I recommend that you give it a shot. It might just change your little girl's life.

the staff is snobby, and pick favorites.the activities are boring and i hate hanging out with my cabin 24/7, when there are many more girls out there that i could be hanging out with. They never give you personal attention unless you are the epitome of popular. its annoying. this camp is for snobby girls who form cliques and hurt other girls feelings. i did not like this camp.

Huckins is an amazing place. It teaches girls to be strong and independant while allowing for lots of fun. I have gone all the way from being a junior at camp to now being a counselor. Your later years at camp are the best where you truly come to appreciate everything that is offered to you there. The lake and campus is beautiful and all the staff is very friendly and trained to deal with everything! Each counselor is Red Cross certified and trained in homesickness and child development. The director Jody Skelton is very passionate about Huckins and always more than willing to make accomodations for you. My friends from Huckins are the people I am truly closest with and amazing. We have been there for each other through the lowest of lows and the highest of highs and we don't live near each other at all!Huckins is the most amazing place on earth and my favorite place to be.It's staff is amazing and handpicked from past campers. I wish i was there right now!Huckins is by far the best!!

omg i love huckins, it is the most amazing place in the world and I really want to go for a month, everyone cries on the last day and there is so much love, its so hard to describe how amazing this camp is, it is my home away from home and i will always want to go back. this camp is the best in the world and the counsolers are so loving and there for you and you make life long friends and there is just soooo much happiness found there. There's so many things to do and so many oppertunities and its just awsome, i soooooo recomend it. if you are looking for an awsome camp this is the one and i would pay double the ammout they charge to go, I write to all my friends i made and when you go its the best 2/4 weeks of your life

Worth every dime! i have gone to huckins for seven years and it is the highlight of my summer. i made my best friends in the world there. the type of friendship you get at huckins is like no other. it's unconditional and theses girls will do anything for you. the benefits of an all girls camp are undescribable. there is none of the superficial stuff that you get at home. the most drama you get at huckins is not getting enough chicken nuggets. at huckins people can be themselves and they are loved for exactly who they are. Counselors, and staff, i cannot say anything but great stuff about all of them. facilities are amazing. huckins has been and always will be my home away from home
