Click to report rating    8/26/13   5     5     5     5     5   Both my boys attend this camp. Ponacka helps creates independence and decision making with many unique experiences and activities. They give boys opportunities to develop skills in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Boys have the opportunity to make their own choice of activities with direct instruction and are recognized for a variety of achievements. There are many areas to reach goals from finishing a swimming level to having the fastest kayak time to getting a part in the drama show. There are also times to just chill out and be a boy. Click to report rating    7/9/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have had two sons attending this camp for the last few years. It is absolutely incredible and wouldn't think of sending my kids anywhere else. The directors, Anne and Don, go out of their way to make everyone feel special. The counsellors are amazing and bring such value to the kids. They manage the parents incredibly well in the lead up to sending your son for the first time - none of the camps mynfriends' children have gone to have done such a good job of this aspect. The mix of sports and "outdoor" activities is great. The values instilled in the boys cannot be underestimated. It truly is an amazing cam. RID: 41628
Click to report rating    6/22/12   5     5     5     5     5   “Building better boys for 65 years”. This is one of Ponacka’s newest slogans, and from personal experience I can attest that it is very accurate. Throughout my 8 years at Ponacka I have changed from being a young shy boy to the confident man I am today. Ponacka has given me the characteristic skills that I use every day of my life along with all the physical skills that I would have not learned,to the expertise that I am capable of, at any other place. Skills like sailing, canoeing, swimming, kayaking …etc. are ones that I am now so grateful to have. The staff at Ponacka are all extremely dedicated to this camp as they all were once campers and usually call this place their home away from home. Don and Anne, the directors of Ponacka, are unimaginably devoted to this camp and everyone that steps past the front gates. I am so appreciative that my parents sent me to this amazing camp as a boy. Do the same for your son and I can assure you he will come back home a “better boy”. RID: 41388
Click to report rating    6/21/12   5     4     4     5     5   I went to Ponacka for 10 years. My 9 year old son goes there now and has thrived there. It is an excellent camp with high quality staff (most counsellors are former campers). The focus is on building the self confidence and self esteem of each boy. They go a great job building skills and creative independence. It has a great mix of kids from different countries and parts of Canada. Tough to beat. RID: 41371
Click to report rating    6/20/12   5     5     5     5     5   I can honestly say that ponacka has one motto. Attention to detail. having worked there on staff for +7 years in various capacities the behind the scenes work is unparalleled. It starts with the visit to the family during the winter and then runs all the way to precamp. don and anne are passionate about the values of the traditional camp setting and it is kept up to be rustic looking but also offering top notch equipment in sailing, riding, canoeing and other activiity areas. Staff qualifications are all accredited by recognized institutions from CYA, Redcross and ORCA. Staff have all grown up at ponacka and as campers aspire to be like their counsellors from a young age. These positive role models are hard to find today. There are a lot of great camps. And the value of camping cannot be undervalued. Ponacka is a superb choice for your son. RID: 41357
Click to report rating    11/8/11   4     4     4     4     4   love the camp. best times of my life. don and anne can be deceiving, and also flat out lied to me about a certain issue. It is a great time, but it could do with some better, organized directors. RID: 37235
8/19/11   2     1     2     1     1   This camp was the most damaging experience of my life and after 6 years since I attended it I am still haunted by it. You are forced to stay at a camp with zero civilization for a month, with only 1 brief visit from parents in between. Most staff are friendly, though also irresponsible. Most of the activities are boring, and the canoe trip is just unpleasant. Sleeping quarters are horrific, and outhouses are never cleaned. On top of all of this you are forced to go skinny-dipping every morning in the lake. Parents, save yourself a problem and never send your son to this depressing place. Save him life-long mental scarring that will haunt him for the rest of his life. RID: 36775
Click to report rating    7/28/11   5     4     5     5     5   My second year at Ponacka, had so much fun, sleeping in a tent for a month was awesome, food is really good and the consellors are really nice guys. Anne & Don are the most devoted camp directors that you can find. You're not a number at Ponacka, you're part of a big family. I'm going back next year. RID: 36544
Click to report rating    2/15/11   5     5     5     5     5   I was definitely hesitant to send my son to a camp for a month (that's a long time for a mom!!). But I am so pleased with the result. He came back so much more confident in himself. RID: 35130
Click to report rating    10/28/10   5     4     5     4     5   This camp is superb. The counsellor to camper ratio is one of the best we've researched and the activities are varied and of high quality. Although the setting, facilities and activities are superb, what was most impressive was the quality of the counsellors and staff. We are extremly impressed and our son can't wait to return. They're emphasis on group dynamics and character development are more than just marketing slogans - they are very real priorities for this camp. RID: 34327
Click to report rating    8/28/10   5     5     5     5     5   My boys have been attending Ponacka for over 6 years. I've been very impressed with the camp and the staff. Both kids have greatly benefitted and are always excited to return. Having been to camp myself, the only change I would suggest is a further and deeper emphasis on canoeing and canoe tripping, but that is minor compared to all the other things that Ponacka provides. Don and Anne run a class operation and I recommend Ponacka to parents considering sending their children to a wilderness camp. RID: 33889
Click to report rating    7/14/09   5     5     5     5     5   I was a 10 year Ponacka camper and staff member. Without a doubt the best thing my parents ever did for me was sending me to Ponacka. I wish I could still be there having an incredible summer!! RID: 30399

Click to report rating    8/17/08   5     5     5     5     5   I went to this camp from age 8 to 12. and it was the best years of my friggin life! i met so many people! and i being 17 now still stay in touch with the guys i met. if you want an amazing experience to just have fun, meet new people, get in shape, or go to be an employee you are going to LOVE! and i mean LOVE this camp. RID: 25766
Click to report rating    8/4/08   5     5     5     5     5   Drop your boy off here for two weeks or a month and they will give you back a young man. Our son has been going for four years now and everytime we are picking him up, we are provided with someone who is much older and full of new experience. I wish my parents had sent me to camp as a child. RID: 25436
Click to report rating    7/9/08   5     5     5     5     5   unbelievable.... this is going to be my 7th year and im going to be a counselor.... i have become such a better person because of Camp Ponacka and everyone notices... your boy will NOT be disappointed! hope to see you here!! RID: 24714
Click to report rating    7/27/07   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Ponaka is the best Camp that I have ever been too . I would recomend this to anybody. The best. RID: 13340
Click to report rating    6/3/07   5     4     4     4     5   Really great camp. Has a great return rate of both campers and staff. The way they organize activity periods is a little strange though, but still a great camp! RID: 11409
Click to report rating    1/11/07   5     5     5     5     5   this camp is a wonderful environment for young boys. in a world where boys are taught to behave in one way (which is not always a good way) this camp enforces fairness, kindness, and a love of the outdoors. If all people were able to have the outdoor experience and love of nature that ponacka boys are given maybe we would be treating our earth with more respect. RID: 6698
Click to report rating    9/19/06   5     4     4     5     5   An excellent 'roughing-it' camp. Almost 100% of the staff were campers at one time. I would not think of sending my son anywere else. RID: 3303
