The program was not as represented, and I hope that parents will get a chance to read this when considering it. First of all, the "teachers" are college students, and are not qualified to teach. More importantly, though, is the lack of supervision. Yes, they have to check in 4 times a day, but my daughter said that she's never seen more drugs. Kids were doing drugs openly, and, apparently, the staff was turning a blind eye. She also said that there were kids having sex everywhere. There's a whole "Sexplo" program, and the kids compete to have sex in as many of the locations as possible. I don't know if the staff is aware of this, but, apparently, Sexplo has been going on for years at this program. Had we known any of this we would not have sent our daughter.

Yeah so they didn't let my family visit me and my cousin because He was 20. This is the crappiest place I've ever been to and I hate it. Never come here ever. The activities suck and the deans office are the meanest people I've ever met. Never come to explo at Yale it's a waist of money and time

I just returned from the EXPLO at Yale Session 1 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned do much and had fun while doing it. The staff were knowledgable and attentive. My suite mates and I felt like one big happy family. The Old Campus is "old" and does not have air conditioning. However, I wasn't at this program to spend all of my time in the dorm room! The dormitory was adequate for my activities of daily living. We experienced many good times on the "quad". I found the activities and entertainment delightful. I was never bored and always felt that there were many things to partake in if I chose to. I made some incredible friends from all over the country and the world in a mere three weeks time! The classes were stimulating and provided just enough information without being overwhelming. The weekend trips ranged from white water rafting to Broadway plays. I would highly recommend this program to other teens. It's an experience that you won't forget! It was worth every cent!

Awful, simply awful. I did not enjoy my experience here whatsoever. The dorms were horrific and run down, and the activities were boring and lazily planned. The staff were distant and uninterested. The facilities were always crowded, and it would take up to a half an hour to wait in line for a mediocre lunch. The classes lacked depth, and seemed as if they were simply thrown together. I did not get fun or enjoyment out of Explo.

My son made some great friends at the Senior Program, and had a wonderful time. He also enjoyed his courses, but felt he had a little too much free time from the late afternoon on. He still wants to go back next year. We'll see...

Explo was the best three weeks of my life!!! Sure it costs a lot, but it's worth everything and I only wish I could have gone for both sessions! The trips were amazing, my classes rocked, and I met lots of people I will keep in touch with and I miss. I will definitely be returning next summer!

Although I had a lot of fun this was based solely on the kids and had nothing to do with the explo program. We were treated like children even though the RAs were only a few years older tha we are. The facilities were bad and not worth the considrable price.

I have serious problems thinking anything bad about Explo. After all, the staff members are amazingly friendly and easy to be around, you're on the campus of the one-and-only YALE UNIVERSITY, there's a billion things you can do, but aren't mandatory, and about a billion other things. So, details. You spend 3 weeks at Explo, living in the dorms on the Old Campus at Yale. You sign up for classes-2 in the morning and one in the afternoon. The class options are diverse, and every class I've ever taken at Explo wasn't lecturing or something boring; it was interactive and absolutely amazing. The staff is mostly college students, so you can really connect to them. There's always a list of things you can do each day, and the options are pretty limitless. I've made duct tape wallets, I've played Set, and I've played soccer games, as a random sample of the stuff you can do. I might sound like an ad, but I swear that Explo was the best 3 weeks of my life. I look forward to going back.

Longest camp I ever went away for (three weeks) and the best and most amazing time I ever had. Yes, it's got a bit of sticker shock, but it's worth every cent. It's a learning camp. Don't come if you don't want to participate in classes, but there's more than enough time to just lie around on the grass on the quad with your friends or poke around every corner of Yale's monstrous library. Facilities? I'll quote an above review: It's freakin' YALE! Great, funny, helpful, sweet counselors/teachers, mostly college or grad student age. Fun activities and mini-courses, like crew. Take it if the idea of rowing has ever interested you at all. I was there Explo First Senior Session 2005 - yes, with the elevator defecator (don't ask, don't smell, Bingham!). Dorms a little sparse, but what college dorm isn't? I was in Farnam and we made the absolute best of it. Bring a fan - Connecticut summers are oppressively muggy! Boundaries in town, but still a lot of fun. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I'll tell you, I loved this. The staff was great, especially the staff they sent away (I miss Tom). As for the facilities, we were at frickin' Yale! We were actually given a good amount of freedom, and the classes were pretty good. The best part of it was everyone else. Past about 7 PM, there was nothing to do but play frisbee and meet people, and I did more of both in those three weeks than in any other time of my life. It's been three months, and I still miss everyone I met there. Except Brian.

I went to a sleep-away camp for 6 summers and had such a good time and I thought that nothing could ever top that, and Explo came very close. It was truley an amazing experience. The independence for 3 whole weeks felt great. I met such amazing friends that it just topped my experience. Also, the staff was awesome! I still keep in touch with one of my teachers and meeting and hanging out with her was the best part of my time there. Overall I would highly recommend Explo, it wont disappoint you.

Bottom line: Explo was awesome! I attended the first '06 Senior Session, and had the best living group (Lanman-Wright D3-4!!!) You all know how we turned out. Anyway, at first, I really didn't want to attend Explo, knowing the fact that there would be tons of kids from around the world. In fact, it turned out to be one of my best summers. Consider that you get to be on your own, no parents, for 3 weeks! As long as your parents keep sending you a steady flow of $$$ (on top of the tuition (still cheaper than my school)) you'll have a great time. The kids were great, the RA's were ok, the RD'd could have been better, and Geoff... well, I wont comment lol. The food, for lack of a better word, at Commons was horrible, but the surrounding restaurants within our boundries were exelent, including Pizza on Broadway and Au Bon Pain. Pluses of Explo: Diverse group of kids from around the world, the extent of freedom. Minuses: Random housing can place you in a very uncomfortable dorm. I RECOMMEND!

I attended Explo Summer 06! The price of the program lead to little socioeconomic diversity- Only a few scholarships were given. But, cultural diversity made up for it. Students and staff from all over the US and world make for a great mix. I attended as a daystudent, but I spent the night at least once a week to get the full experience. The dorms were more than adequate. Some were upset with the arrangements, but that's dorms. The program exists to prepare us for a college environment, and it accomplishes that. Academically, I loved my classes. You get what you put in. Do NOT force your child here. Too many cases of "My parents made me" dragged down the rest of us. Its a self proclaimed "nerd camp". But instead of bookish nerds, we're bright, funny, learninglovers. Most classes are taught by the RA's and a few professors. True - we only 'borrow' Yale but the school and it's resources rub off on you. Now a JR in HS, I cant get Explo out of my mind. It was the best summer of my life!!!

WAS a lot of fun and full of amazing new experiences! Kind of dissapointed that the staff was made up of college kids, who were only a few years older tha us and not always so nice, but overall good experience. Great way to meet new peeps and learn about different cultures since there are peeps from all over the world! Too mayn people to possibly meet everyon ewhich kindaa sux, but you're guaranteed to find at least one good friend! The main events pretty much sucked this year with the exception of the hip-hop group and the hypnotist (TOTALLY HILARIOUS..BATMAN!)carnival night, Explopalooza, Explo Idol, and, movie on the quad were okay, but other than that the events were pretty lame! i was in bingham c so i had great facilities, no complaints at all! a great opportunity and a lot of fun, but still room for improvement!

I had a great time at Yale, but Explo was lacking in numerous areas. There were 700 kids there, so it is difficult to even see everyone in the camp in 3 weeks. The dorms were horrible. Lanman-Wright is the worst dorm in Yale and, of course, the guys get it. The activities and classes were fun, but there was assuredly not enough time in order to learn in depth about topics or have elaborate activities. The camp costs a small fortune--about $4000. Luckily I got a scholarship. Don't be fooled by the "Yale" name; this camp is not affiliated with Yale at all. They just rent the facilities. I loved many of the kids and the weekend trips to NYC, Boston, and elsewhere.
