10/31/12   1     3     1     1     1   I worked as a camp counselor at the UT-Austin campus during the three week Summer 2012 session. Coming from a staff point of view, the camp was horrible. The camp was unorganized, none of the counselors knew what was going on during the day due to the administration changing plans without letting us know. The campers would ask us what were the plans for the day but we could not answer their questions. Children were "lost" and some counselors were fired while one counselor was not fired because a child admitted running away, which still had no explanation for that counselor to still hold their position. One counselor would walk around naked in a blanket in front of the children every day and would teach them sexual dance moves while the head resident assistant would watch and laugh because as she recorded it on her phone. This was not my idea of a summer camp, I was appalled at the actions that took place. RID: 42969
Click to report rating    8/5/07   5     4     4     4     3   I loved SIG. I made great friends who I still talk to everyday, I learned alot, and I had soooooo much fun. It's really expensive, but it is a great experience. THey have camps all over. Mine was at Princeton and it was really cool! We had no A/C and our dining hall got switched alot but it was still great! It isn't a "nerd" camp or anything, everybody just enjoys learning, or wants to get ahead, and no one tries to trump anyone in classes, though they are competitive, but it doesn't get to a blow up, just healthy competition to keep us pushing ahead. Click to report rating    2/18/07   4     4     3     4     3   Sig is a pretty good camp. For the first one or two years its a lot of fun. But after about three years, you realize that the administration justs puts in more rules and each year, camp becomes less fun. It was a great three years of my life, that i would not take back, but i don't want to go for a foth and final year. RID: 7921
Click to report rating    9/2/06   5     5     4     5     4   SIG is the greatest camp if you want it to be. Those who choose to embrace it and its loveabale nerdiness greatly benefit while those "too cool for school" kids just have a bad three weeks. Although the highers-up can be pretty strict, the counselors are pretty lax and are lots of fun to hang out with. There isn't anything definitively negative I have to say about SIG. In my mind, this is the perfect camp. RID: 2732
