My son spent his third summer at Camp Skylemar and had a fantastic time. The vision of this camp is fantastic and taught my son life skills that will guide him throughtout his life. The Directors, Arleen and Shep, as well as the larger team are engaged and truly want to provide boys a wonderful experience during their stay at Camp Skylemar. I highly recommend this camp.

My son has spent 3 summers at Skylemar so far, and he has absolutely loved it! Arleen and Shep are warm and conscientious, and they have managed to cultivate a kind culture with strong "brotherhood". This was the best decision we made for our son. It's a beautiful camp with beautiful facilities, and everything they do is just very well done -- the sports, the staff, the amazing food, the trips and activities. The only caution I would have is that this camp is more suited to an athletic child, as sports and competitive play are emphasized here. But that should be obvious since they call themselves a "sports camp". That said, there are all levels of athletes here, however, they definitely take their sports seriously here especially at the end for Color War.

My son has spent three wonderful summers at Skylemar. He has made great friends, learned how to waterski and played lots of lacrosse and tennis. He comes home each summer having learned more about the sports he enjoys and has tried sports he doesn't play much during the year. From the very beginning I was sure my son was in the best hands possible. When I had a question or concern I spoke with Arleen directly and knew that she and Shep knew my son personally. They take great pride and effort in knowing each camper, keeping them safe and teaching them Skylemar values of respect, caring, friendship, and sportsmanship. My son comes home each summer a little more independent and self-confident. The camp itself is beautiful. Exactly how sleep away camp should be. Plenty of space to run around and play, fields for every kind of sport and a pristine lake for all kinds of waterfront activities. From Arleen and Shep, to the counselors and especially the campers, there is no place like Skylemar.

My son has spent five summers at Camp Skylemar and has had the most incredible experience there. I can't say enough about how much we absolutely love this camp for him. The owners, Arleen and Shep are amazing. The counselors are always excellent and the brotherhood that they create there for the boys is truly a thing of wonder. There's plenty of athletics and competition (which my son loves), but they also have a lot for the non athletic kid to do too. One of the things that impresses me most about Skylemar is how they teach the kids to be good sports and to support one another; regardless of the competition. They really try to teach the boys good values too. My son can't wait to return each summer! He's only sad that he only has a few summers left before he's too old to attend the camp!!! Skylemar is top notch!

Camp Skylemar is just what we were looking for. The Directors and staff are caring, involved, and take a personal interest in each camper and their family. The counselors and activities not only keep the boys engaged but teach the sport and more importantly, sportsmanship! Top priorities include safety and long lasting friendships. This is the ideal place for any boy who wants to learn sports or who may want the competition, who are self-sufficient or need a little extra attention. We could not be happier that we found Skylemar, and plan for it to be a constant in our sons summer for as long as possible!!

Skylemar is truly a unique place for boys! The kindness and friendships that develop each summer are tremendous. The staff is first class and they always maintain a nurturing and positive environment. The owners totally understand boys and they hold the highest quality standards for the entire camp. It is extremely important to them that everyone works together to have a ton of fun. The amazing lifelong memories makes Skylemar a very special place!

WE LOVE SKYLEMAR year-round. Our two boys attended camp for the past two years and are going back for their third summer. THE BEST SPORTS CAMP in the world in a culture of caring! We cannot get over HOW CARING THE ENTIRE PLACE IS. Once you meet Shep and Arleen, you see that the values come from the top. Their attention to fairness, friendship, and fun, they train their staff to understand that BEING AT SKYLMEAR IS A PRIVILEGE. Not just a summer job. It's an opportunity to help boys grow into better people for their whole lives. As a result, our boys have not only grown in skills in all their favorite sports, but have grown as young men. A haven of beauty on Trickey Pond, Skylemar is first-rate: with magnificent views overlooking the mountains inspire you as you emerge from your bunks each morning. Our boys call Skylemar their second home. And what a magnificent place it is, inside and out. When asked, what would you change for next summer, each of our boys says, Nothing!

Truly a great experience for my son, he came back with more confidence and is now excited to try new things. Before Skylemar he was reluctant to do new activites, now he jumps in. Everytime he talks about Skylemar he just lights up. He can't wait to go back to see all of his friends, not to mention Shep, Arleen and all the rest of the staff.

Absolutely THE BEST CAMP EVER! Shep and Arleen (directors) care so much the campers, families and employees. Everyday is a new Adventure at Skylemar, there is something here for everyone. All the programs focus on developing strong values in boys. It is in a beautiful location and the facilities are wonderful. My son has enjoyed many summers at this camp and he talks about his experiences all year long. He is counting down the days until he is back in Maine! The SPIRIT and TRADITIONS are always alive at Skylemar!

I spent five amazing summers as a camper at Camp Skylemar. I loved every minute of it. The activities are awesome. The evening activities and special events are great. Skylemar has the best staff. Everyone is really friendly and they all work very hard to make sure the kids are having a great time. Some of my favorite moments at camp have been, learning to water-ski, play hockey & lacrosse, catching my first fish, learning to put up a tent, acting in my first play, and improving in golf, tennis and basketball. The counselors are awesome. Most of them are college athletes and really know how to teach. Shep and Arleen are always around to talk to and have fun with. They do a great job making sure everyone has a great summer. You won't find a camp with nicer people. Everyone is so friendly and nice. They really make you feel like you are a part of the Skylemar family everyday.

I can not say enough to compilment Camp Skylemar. 3 out of our 4 children have gone there, and if it was co-ed our daughter would have gone as well. The directors treated our sons as if they were their own and treated us as if we were family not clients. Our sons have not only created lasting friendships with other campers, but they have also enjoyed staying in touch with the a good number of the staff members. It seems as if our sons come up with a positive connection with their Skylemar experience every day.

I spent 3 summers as a counselor at Camp Skylemar and cannot say enough about what a wonderful place it truly is for both the campers and the staff. Everything good you could possibly wish for for your son happens at Skylemar during those 8 weeks of summer. The staff that they hire are consistently great and the directors, Shep and Arleen, are always there for every single boy no matter what. The days are scheduled so that there is ALWAYS something going on from the first morning announcement to the last one at night. Love all the kids, loved my fellow counselors and staff, loved the directors, wish I could be back every summer! Send your boys here if you can, you will NEVER regret it.

I was a counselor at Skylemar last summer and LOVED it. I can’t wait to come back next year. The place is incredible. I had never been to Maine before, and just couldn’t get over how beautiful it is. The camp is really well taken care of, and the facilities are solid. The lake is amazing.
The owners of the camp run a really great program. They treat all the counselors well, help with anything and are very fair. They teach you all about kids, and helped me to get much better at coaching. The owners are really into safety, which makes a lot of sense. The guys in my bunk were awesome, and it felt really cool to know that they looked up to me. The job’s hard, but I always felt appreciated. The food’s great too!
I ended up with lots of new friends, my body was in great shape, and now I know I want to be a teacher someday. Skylemar’s awesome. I wish I went to camp like this when I was a kid.

The owners put on a good front but treat the staff like children and have an extreme old school **** out look. There are 12-20 female staff to over 200 men and boys on campus and the women are expected to take care of EVERYTHING working quietly because it is "our duty as women to take car of the men because they are not capable". The campers are given no real attention. The arts and music are not supported by any staff that are not involved with them. For kitchen staff they hire college kids from south america and mexico because they can be paid cheaper and they work harder than anyone else there. They are paid about $150 a week for working 16+ hours a day. The campers are all taught to look up to one man like he is a god- shep the director. senior staff verbally abusive other staff members and no one does anything about it. Staff members are put on lock down and are not allowed to leave the campus at night. A horrible place.

Camp Skylemar is an amazing camp! The food, staff, and the owners are all great. The only negative thing I could think of is that they need to switch up their evening activities. The kids go back every year already knowing what is going to happen. I'm sure it gets a little boring. They need to get creative and wip some new things up! I'm sure the kids would love to have a few surprises. You will never have a summer quite like a Camp Skylemar summer.

My kids have been going to Camp Skylemar for over 16 years combined and each year is better than the last. The owners are down to earth and totally clued in to boys. My kids are safe, happy, challenged, supported, encouraged and there is nowhere they'd rather be than there. They have made lifelong friends there. The counselors are excellent--great at the sports and skills for which they were hired and kind to the kids. This is not a camp where kids just sit around in the bunk--they is always something fun to do and always someone fun to do it with. There may be other camps in Maine with better facilities but the people, both staff and campers are unmatched. I cannot say enough good things about this camp. Bottom line: if you have a son and he likes sports and spending time with quality people Skylemar is the place for him!

Skylemar is the greatest place in the entire world. I went there as a camper starting at age 10 and then worked as a junior counselor. I just kept going back. There was nothing else I would rather do during the summer then spend it with the greatest group of guys in the world. The camaraderie and friendship at camp is absolutely amazing and the friends I made when I was 12/13 are still my best friends today. The staff is incredible and give the opportunity for kids to become friends with college students and those bonds stay forever. Color War at Skylemar lasts 5 days at the end of the summer and contains the greatest outpour of emotion anyone will ever encounter. The competitiveness is tremendous and every sport is intense, however after it is over everyone jumps into Trickey Pond to reconcile and become best friends once again. Skylemar will always occupy a special place in my heart. This box limits me to only 1000 characters, but I would need an endless amount to describe Skylemar.

The facilities and activities and personal attention is all fantastic. Some of the staff is also great. Coming from a previous staff member who worked there for 1 summer, I was extremely disappointed, sad, and frustrated with how I along with other "newbies" where treated by the owners and the lifers who are "in charge". There was a lot to know and figure out. If we went to any of them with questions, concerns or even had a disagreement with them, we were soon not taken seriously for the rest of the summer. If your new at that camp, you get a long best if you can simply act like you know what your doing all the time and never ask questions. However, after seeing how one of the only "lifers" there treated other staff members and the boys with unabashed verbal abuse matched with the fact that he was allowed to do this, I will never send my child there nor would I ever recommend this camp for anyone. Jock or not.
