I would not recommend this camp to other parents who value integrity, morality and their child's emotional welfare. Excluding the kitchen and medical staff (who are phenomenal year after year), this camp hires their counselors based off of popularity and, for this reason, does not offer adequate mentorship opportunities for children who are not elitists. Click to report rating    4/19/18   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter is heading to Kandalore this summer for the 4th time. She has done various sessions (2 weeks & 1 month). She has had really amazing experiences every summer. Between the "all-camp" activities and the individual "choice" activities, she has had exposure to a wide range of things. The staff are incredibly experienced and very responsive to both campers and parents. They engender a real sense of "community" and this is important with local, national and international campers. The camp is well run on the office side as well, making the registration process easy and office staff are always willing to go the extra mile. For the past few years, the camp has been actively upgrading the cabins throughout and they are really lovely. My daughter has no complaints about the cabins, food, and facilities. We like the layout of the camp and the central meeting spot between activities. The mandatory swimming and paddling is a water safety plus! Highly recommend this camp. Go Lumbermen! RID: 51784

Click to report rating    6/19/17   5     5     5     5     5   Here's an up to date review. The bad reviews are from 07. Trust me, it's AMAZING. The staff are SO nice, the cabins are amazing and you make so many great friends. The food is out of this world! The facilities are nice. The counselors are the greatest people you will ever meet, so kind and caring. It's worth more than just it's price. The activities are so fun and you may learn life changing skills. Look at their website for more information! I have been going to this camp for three years and I love it more than anything. I miss it every day that I'm not there. My favorite food is the chicken burgers, and there is even a salad bar and they do cater to vegans/vegetarians. The girls and boys do everything separately except for regatta, where the Lumbermen, Pioneers, Fur traders (GO FURTRADERS), and Voyageurs compete in fun activities and cheer their chants. The tuck is nice and balanced out. I love this camp soooo much. If you're considering going or sending a child there, do it. RID: 50853
Click to report rating    1/6/14   5     5     5     4     3   Great camp! There are lots of activities to choose from, the cabins (girls' side-winter cabins) are clean and the counsellors are fantastic. There are many events and EPs, such as Campire, games, blanket toss, Casino night, Variety night and Regatta. Go Furtraders!! Best of all, you get to how on a canoe-camping trip with your friends/cabin-mates. The food is good for camp food. They have all sorts of stuff. Activities include water-skiing, water trampoline, pottery, leather, arts&crafts, High Ropes, canoeing, kayaking, archery... There's really everything! You get to sleep in on Sundays. There is a Tuck shop where you can buy clothes and candy. The regatta teams are so competitive, even outside of camp. They are the Furtraders, Voyagers, Pionneers and Lumbermen. The Trips are very well organized and, as a Senior you get to help plan your canoe trip. Camp Kandalore is great! RID: 46492

Click to report rating    6/9/13   5     5     5     5     5   I loved it. Sadly I was only there for two days. All the staff were great especially for the camp fire. The food was pretty good. The activities were lots of fun. The only thing I didn't like was the kayaking but that might have been because we did it on a windy day and mine wouldn't turn and then I flipped but I'm sure it's better when it's not windy. The cabins were nice. They have electricity and are pretty warm. Of course you have to share with other people but that makes sense, you can't all have your own cabins. Over all I had a great time. Click to report rating    5/21/10   5     5     5     5     5   Such a good camp the only reason all of the other posts are bad is because, Those girls are whiny ****es. Imagine being a senior. RID: 32815
Click to report rating    6/8/08   5     4     5     5     4   Kandalore is the Best camp I have ever been to. No wonder I keep going back. I did my explorer and it was the most amazing experience I have ever had. -Moisie River- Though, it is a more expensive camp compared to others. It is worth the extra money. There are activities that no other camps have. It has a perfect combination of tripping and camp activities. Howvever, if tripping is not your thing- maybe this camp isn't for you! RID: 23684
Click to report rating    10/20/07   3     2     3     3     3   Meh. My councellors were nice enough, and I loved the Looper canoe trip (soo easy!!), but paddling through rapids sucks. The cabins are icky... I need my electricity. The food is horrible, and the activities... well, Kandalore is a very traditional camp... outdoorsy and active. I am not. It wasn't a very good match. Pottery and woodwork and such are so... grubby, but I loved archery. Anyway... I went for two summers, and I won't be returning, but I must say, it was a good experience. RID: 16356
Click to report rating    7/20/07   3     1     2     2     2   Cabins are enjoyable if you are lucky enough to have a new one. Though it is shared with 11 other people, climate control and space is lovely. However, most cabins are not like this, most have no climate control, no lighting, and no space. The facilities are highly unsanitary which discourage people from showering and using the bathroom. Food? disgusting, to say the very least. The staff were energetic and cheerful, the activities were acceptable. RID: 13137
Click to report rating    6/18/07   1     3     3     1     1   HORRIBLE camp. I was in a cabin with snotty, whiny, spoiled girls, the counsellors treated me like crap, insulted me on a daily basis, and made me do all the grunt work. The food is horrible, I saw mice in the kitchen and the kitchen staff were grubby. When I had a problem with being teased, the counsellors did jack all and even joined in. Overpriced, too. RID: 12171
Click to report rating    6/8/07   5     2     5     5     5   I LOVE kandalore so much. i really liked my leader Mitch (i think you spell it like that). She was from Austrailia and i love her accent. She was only 18, and really funny. This is a great camp LOVE FROM KATIE June '07 RID: 11701
Click to report rating    3/3/07   1     1     1     1     1   1 i didn't rate this becaue it was so horrible. 2 i feel tha tthe food could be improve by a lot because it was worse than haggus because it tasted like you raded the trash from nextdoor. 3 i feel that you need decent activities because the activities i plaied were horible because the rules were bad RID: 8281
Click to report rating    2/25/07   4     4     5     2     3   I went to this camp two years ago and had a pretty decent time the people were nice the activities were entertaining and the food was mediocre. My favourite part of my 2 weeks there was my 4 day outtrip, we went to a lake called Clear Lake and it really lived up to its name, it was crystal clear! I saw one moose and many loons on the outtrip and had a blast, although portaging a canoe was not fun at all, my arms felt like they were on fire! Another fond memory was Regata day, i was a fur trader and that year we came second to the Pioneers! It was just some competitive enthusiastic heep of fun, and i loved every minute of it! Nonetheless the cabins were cramped and dirty and in the day you didnt always get the activity you wanted. Another thing i didnt like was that swimming lessons are mandatory, im not a strong swimmer and i dreaded going swimming EVERY day, especially in the ice cold lake. all in all it was a good experience, i made some good friends and memories and i am glad i went.
