I am an previous camp staff. I can honestly say this camp exploits its staff. They exploits their workers so bad that the camp lost their YPN program which enables staff from all other countries to come to canada and teach campers about their cultures. This camp has horrible conditions for camper (At times 14 campers in a tiny old filled cabins with mice). Campers and staff have days FULL of activities to the point kids were passing out of exhaustion and sun stroke. Their nurse team was very dismissive of campers and staff needs. My supervisor was worked to the point of compassion exhaustion. They also utilize "free" staff, gapper program and YPN to avoid paying staff. Awhile expectation staff to afford to 1 leave camp and 2 afford to do laundry. The camp facilities are filled with mice, mold and holes. There was some facilities that had no doorknobs. There is NO mental health support on staff and staff are discouraged/shut down when asking for resources. Save your money.

Just sent an email, staff called multiple times for non emergency situations, hoping that I will hear a response. Overall a terrible experience for my children. I would not recommend this camp for a variety of reasons. Staff not qualified, belongings not sent back with children when I picked them up from Gibsons.

Just picked daughter up from the camp. Not good experience! Activities are good and plenty of it. I wish the staff would be more nolegable and accommodations better. My daughter was cramped into a small cabin with 14 other girls with absolutely no space for bags, everything was on the floor in the aisles, the smell in the cabin was like it was a hockey team change room. Showers were cold water. My daughter sprained her ankle in the afternoon, it was swollen and she was crying ....but she was not allowed to call me. Only after she talked to several staff and demanded finally the call was made at 9.30pm!!!! I had to travel to Gibsons next morning and drive her to the emergency myself for xray. While I was waiting for my daughter at the camp medical room, a boy was there complaining of severe headache and wanting to call parents. The response was ::"No dear you are not allowed go eat breakfast it will help with the headache!"For this obvious reasons I took her out of the camp earlier

YMCA's camp elphinstone is an incredible camp filled with responsible, youthful counsellors that are there to accommodate each and every campers personal needs and wants. My daughter has been going to this camp for 5 summers in a row now and she has met so many fantastic life long friends and always comes home with millions of songs and stories and hilarious moments to share. She loves it so much that she even talks about wanting to be a counsellor there when she turns old enough. My daughter comes back a less picky, more adventurous and more appreciative kid every time she returns from camp elphinstone and it has shaped her to be the well rounded girl she is today

My 10 year old was placed in a cabin full of rowdy teenage girls (I'm talking 13-15). They talked about sex, frequently swore and generally bullied my daughter. Made sure she felt left out. She cried every night. Councillor didn't care or notice..she even had a non YMCA friend spend the night in the cabin. my child asked to call home but was denied. She came home crying, feeling worthless abd with a severely sprained thumb (a male coucellor drilled a soccer ball at her & she was taken to hospital). my normally cheerful daughter's self esteem was in the toilet. I would pay any amount to erase this bad experience from her mind. My advise - make sure you child is placed in a cabin with kids her own age and give her a cel to call home.

This past summer was my 13th year at elphinstone and it was my first year on staff, one of the best experiences ive ever had was being able to change lives of kids this summer like counselors did for me as i grew up. without this camp and the people that go here i wouldnt be the person i am today. for anyone who hasnt had the opportunity to be overwhelmed with the joys of camp i and many others have experienced i reccomend taking either your first or another chance because you never know what each amazing moment it may bring you. LOVE elphinstone forever and always, and "may the camp watch between me and thee, as we are apart one from the other"

I went to this camp as a camper and staff in the 80's. My daughter has gone for the last 5 years. She loves it, I loved it. I'm still friends with fellow campers and staff members. We are forever friends with more fabulous memories than I could ever share! Camps should be a little rustic to get away from the city and live differently for a while

Camp Elphinstone is the most fun you will have all YEAR! I've been going since I was 8 and I am going to continue until I'm 17, then I'll become a camp counsellor. I HIGHLY recommend camp elphinstone for beginning and experienced campers! Everybody is really friendly and they have hilarious theme nights every night. You will start to all feel like a family.

I LOVE CAMP ELPHINSTONE! I've met people there i will never forget. They need to loosen up with all the rules they've put on like boys and girls spending time together and realize that us talking and us having sex are extremely different things, and its just upsetting when you cant talk to someone youve formed a relationship with because they are of the opposite sex. other than that love it.

This is my sons (9 years old) third time at Elphinstone's residental camp, and he can't get enough. He attended last spring break, two weeks in the summer, and now this spring break. He was already talking about his summer trip before he left for this one, and we could hear him singing the Elphinstone song in the shower as soon as he found out he was registered for spring break. He had no complaints about anything, other then that the food was "okay", but he's a picky eater at the best of times. We'll be signing up again for this summer.
