Click to report rating    1/9/25   5     5     5     5     5   My son has attended Ballibay for the past three summers, plans to go again this coming summer, and hopes to be a counselor there someday. It has been a magical second home for him, and he stays in touch with his camp friends throughout the year. The environment is artistically nurturing, free, encouraging, egalitarian--yet recognizes kids' unique talents. A wonderful place. RID: 54150
Click to report rating    8/18/24   5     5     5     5     5   This is such a special place! Such an inclusive, encouraging, and caring environment for the kids! So grateful for all the staff and the opportunities offered at this camp. For my daughter, it is weeks of being her unabashed self with a community of creative thinkers! Who could ask for more! RID: 54081
Click to report rating    7/28/24   5     3     5     5     5   My son had a delightful time at Camp Ballibay during a two-week session in the summer of 2024, and will definitely return next year for four weeks. (To participate in a full-length musical or play, campers need to attend for more than two weeks.) The staff was great, he received tons of personal attention, and he got to try out a LOT of different things. He reported that the food was very good, varied and plentiful. He made lots of friends. However, he did not like the fact that the camp is not air conditioned, especially since it was routinely in the 90s, and the cabins are somewhat rustic. RID: 54056
Click to report rating    7/14/24   5     5     5     5     5   Amazing value, experience away from home, community in all visual and performing arts. Exceeded my expectations. We cannot wait to return! RID: 54041
5/3/24   1     1     1     1     2   I went to Ballibay for 3 years. My first two years were great but my last year was terrible. They hired a mother to direct a play I was in who numerous times made people uncomfortable and disregarded boundaries. She would force us to act out the scenes with her instead of give direction. Sometimes she would take our arms and lead us to a spot on stage or completely act out a scene some of which were really uncomfortable given that it was a romantic play. When confronting the head of the camp about our discomfort especially since some of those acting in her show were very young he said he would talk to her and she proceeded to use words instead that were not nice because she was mad that people had told on her. Ballibay was great till it wasn’t. RID: 54001
Click to report rating    4/18/24   5     4     5     5     5   Ballibay is my child’s favorite place to be! They are about to go for their 4th year and have made great friends and had a great time. Ballibay’s gender-affirming policies have meant so much to my kid and allowed them to relax and enjoy camp while feeling completely accepted and affirmed. RID: 53997
Click to report rating    4/18/24   5     5     5     5     5   I went here as a camper in my youth and now (redacted) years later I still look on it with great fondness. I'm still friends with so many of the people I went to camp with. John Jannone and all the staff are top notch. This is the place to send your kids for an absolutely magical experience. 10/10 stars. RID: 53996
Click to report rating    4/18/24   5     5     5     5     5   My kid, now 14, will be going back for her third session this summer. First year she did two weeks, and last year she demanded the four week session. She loves everything about that camp. RID: 53995
Click to report rating    8/13/23   5     5     5     5     5   Ballibay is one of the most unique places you can gift your child(ren). As a former alum myself of 6 magical summers, I didn't have thoughts that my kids would necessarily follow in my footsteps. Not only did it appeal to my singing, theatre loving kid - but also to the technical, videographer kid. We are two summers in and the magic of Ballibay really hasn't changed since I was there 30+ years ago. The food is tremendous, the opportunities are endless as are the stories. Thank you to John, Kristin and Sarah and ALL the staff for continuing on the making memories for the kids. RID: 53835
Click to report rating    7/22/23   5     4     5     5     5   Camp Ballibay is where my kid feels totally accepted, has a ton of fun and has grown their talents and wonderful friendships. Ballibay is such a special place! RID: 53779
Click to report rating    6/1/23   5     5     5     5     5   It's hard to put into words the impact Ballibay has had on (all three!) of my children, but the closest I can come is to say that it did more for their emotional, physical, and creative development than anything else I can think of. It was at this camp - summer after summer - that my children found their truest selves, their love and passion for theater and music ignited and celebrated on every level. But it was also where they found their tribe, other kids like them who were as passionate about the arts as they were, who understood them in ways that kids in school didn't.These friendships have become life-long, the memories forever. Ballibay is the kind of place that may look and sound unassuming on the outside, but is all gold inside. Don't hesitate if you're thinking about sending your kids there - they will be forever changed - in all the best possible ways. RID: 53727
Click to report rating    2/21/23   3     3     3     3     2   My daughter attended Camp Ballibay this past summer. She usually goes to a more typical camp with camping, hiking and water activities, etc. She wanted to try something new and she is a talented artist, so Camp Ballibay seemed like a good fit. Unfortunately, she did not have the experience she was hoping for. She was teased and many of the kids were unkind. Prior to Ballibay, she had always loved summer camp and had always felt the experience was empowering. After she returned from Camp Ballibay, she is still working through some insecurities she developed because of the unkind things people said to her. She also described the art program as weak and that her last camp, which was focused on outdoor activities, had a more robust art program and better teachers. She did mention that if you are a musician or into theater, that those programs were stronger at Camp Ballibay. RID: 53659
Click to report rating    8/16/22   5     5     5     5     5   Our daughter Catherine attended Camp Ballibay for the first time in 2021; she had not ever been to a sleep-away camp previously, and I had been looking for a 1-wk camp but decided to sign her up for 2 wks.I have rarely met a more grateful excited child as I did when I picked her up from camp in 2021;her first question, "Mama, can I go for 3 weeks next year?" So 3 wks it is from 2022 onward.I appreciate that 1.)There are so many artistic endeavors for campers to select from;2.)The camp environment is safe, supportive and fabulously creative;3.) Campers can create their own daily schedule which gives them autonomy and freedom; 4.) The counsellors, staff, teachers, mentors and campers are diverse and excellent; 5.) For campers with various dietary preferences (Catherine chose to be vegetarian several years ago), the choices are plentiful and delicious according to our camper!; 6.) No phones means these kids can disconnect, and connect, in vitally important ways. Thank you! RID: 53603
Click to report rating    4/12/22   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter loves this camp. We were nervous sending her so far from home (we live in Kansas) but it was the best thing we’ve done for her. She really grew as a person. She met new friends and had awesome experiences. I would highly recommend this camp, especially if you have a different thinking child who loves the arts. RID: 53544

5/21/20   5     5     5     5     4   My son loves this camp. He had been there for three summers in a row. The camp gave him music and artistic skills, amazing friendships, and a unique feeling of being at home away from home. As a parent it is very rewarding to see him growing and maturing through summer while feeling so happy. RID: 53221

5/21/20   5     5     5     5     5   It is about 4 hours from me, so a pretty long road trip. But Camp Ballibay is super worth it! I have stayed for 2 weeks when I was 9, and 3 weeks when I was 10. I hung out in the art barn most of the time, but also helped out with theater tech like manning cameras or lighting. Practically all of it is camper-run, and you attend a performance pretty much every night. There is dance, musical theater, visual arts, music, and even horseback riding! You can go the whole day in one place, or sign up for different experiences and do everything. (Mom says: I have been thrilled with Camp Ballibay! My daughter talk about it during the year and can't wait to go back. Everyone I have met has been wonderful, from counselors to visiting artists. Highly recommended!) RID: 53220

5/19/20   5     5     5     5     5   this would be my 5th year at ballibay. all the staff are super enthusiastic and supportive of what you want to do. i have made lifelong friends at camp that i keep in touch with all year. there is no competition with other campers to do the activities you want to do and everyone shares the spotlight. the community is so warm and welcoming, and since it is a smaller community, you become friends with everyone there. there is no other place quite as special as camp ballibay, and i hope we all get the opportunity to return this year.  5/19/20   5     5     5     5     5   All three of my children have attended Camp Ballibay, in three different areas of concentration -- visual arts, rock farm, and performing arts. All three have loved it and formed deep bonds with the place, campers, and staff. The breadth of opportunity is exceptional, as campers can try their hand at many different arts and activities. The value of NO CELL PHONES cannot be understated. One of the best aspects of the camp is that it is welcoming of kids at all levels of skill and talent. True, it's a different experience from more targeted theater camps nearer to NYC, but our family appreciates what a more democratic experience has to offer our kids. Each of our kids is highly talented in their focus areas, and they definitely were challenged and given experiences to grow, all while having a wide variety of camp opportunities such as helping to grow and make food, hosting a radio show, caring for cats, running video for recording performances, and much more.  5/17/20   5     5     5     5     5   I cannot tell you what this camp has meant to my daughter (2020 will be her 4th year, fingers crossed). The total experience, art, music, theater, friends... especially friends. These kids (and staff) are all wonderful creative, kind, quirky, accepting. There are no cliques, no mean girls, no games. They get together during the year and will be friends for a lifetime! Personally, I adore each and everyone of the kids she has met at Ballibay. The staff are dedicated and make the effort to know each camper and foster growth in each camper. It is also not too expensive (compared to a lot of other sleepaway camps) and it is a little slice of heaven for each camper, who is encouraged to be their true selves... I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you have a slightly fringe child looking for their home! RID: 53215

5/16/20   5     5     5     5     4   Camp Ballibay is a home away from home. Even if that sounds cliche, it’s very true. I have been going to this camp almost every summer since I was six and I look forward to the month I’m there from the moment it’s over. Camp Ballibay is a wonderful place to make lifelong friends with interesting and unique personalities and talents. During the school year I am constantly on my phone or devise, but camp is a reminder that I’m not addicted to it like adults often say. It’s honestly refreshing to be without the internet and get a break from the outside world. I’ve also been a CIT which was an amazing experience. I was a theater CIT and assistant directed a play for the first time. My passion for acting and live theater started and has developed because of this camp. I’m a city kid and growing up at this camp has given me a larger perspective on environments and how other kids have grown up in different states or even countries. RID: 53213

5/14/20   5     5     5     5     5   The best times of my summers have been at Ballibay. The people are so much fun, so talented, and super kind. Last summer I was in a total of five bands, I sang in a musical, I made a lot of pottery and drew, and made some of the closest friends I've ever had. Each year all I can ever think about is how many days are left until I can return to camp. I've tried other sleep away camps, but there is a reason Ballibay is the only one I've ever returned to. After four years at Ballibay, I can say that it is one of the biggest reasons for my passion for music. At the camp there are dances, bonfires, loud and crazy performance nights, and super fun and quiet cabin nights. The people I met at Ballibay became some of my favorite friends and I see them throughout the year because of how much I miss them and the camp. The staff is so talented; I learn more from them each summer than anyone else. The best part of camp though, is the freedom and the ability to chose what you want to do. RID: 53211
Click to report rating    5/14/20   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Ballibay is a special place. Its a small community that lets kids be who they are. They have the freedom to choose activities and try new things. They get to experience art and music and theater and express themselves in a safe environment. My daughters were able to try a new instrument and play in a band, take photography, create amazing artwork, learn to sew, learn to dance. They have met great friends from all over and engage with counselors from across the globe. The cabins are small and comfortable, the food is amazing. The kids have fun evening and weekend activities full of music and dancing. It really is a special place and they cherish their summers there, and stay in touch with their friends all year long. Click to report rating    8/16/19   5     5     5     5     5   What an amazing camp. It has the camp feel with the kids staying in cabins and great food! My daughter has spent the past 2 summers at this camp and it never disappoints. If you can make it to watch any of the performances, it’s a must. I was able to watch the rock show and was blown away with how many original songs were performed. We also were able to watch a dance concert and play. The students were having fun and showcasing their amazing talents! The staff is always welcoming and informative! I think if my daughter could live there, she would! RID: 52825

5/11/19   5     5     5     5     5   I went to Ballibay as a kid and was thrilled when my kids showed interest three years ago. They are excited to return this summer! Ballibay is one of a kind. The campers get to choose what they want to do, which makes it very different than standard camps where groups move along every day, always together and on a set schedule of activities. Ballibay provides structure, but in a way that empowers the children. They are supported and led by professional arts and other specialty counselors from around the world. The location is spectacular. I've traveled the world, yet the stars at camp are the best I've ever seen. A strong focus is given to inclusion and the campers genuinely care for each other, and the support of one another happens very quickly. I highly recommend Ballibay for kids with a passion and experience in the arts, or those who would like try out the myriad of arts activities Ballibay offers. Top notch!!! RID: 52615

Click to report rating    2/19/18   5     5     5     5     4   Ballibay is a great camp for kids who are into the arts. My son went for the first time last year and will be returning this year. The camp is in the woods, away from most electronics, in rustic cabins...and yet they have top of the line video and sound equipment to record all of the performances, from cabarets to dances to full length plays and musicals, which they post online for families. They also post photos every few days, so parents can get glimpses of camp life. Campers can immerse themselves in activities they already love, as well as try new activities. My son went for musical theatre, but also took a few saxophone lessons, although he had never played a sax. He also took voice and dance lessons, made pottery, sang in two cabaret nights, and rode a horse at least once. It was a bit chilly and rainy, so he didn't play sports much, but he created a video featuring his fellow campers, a new experience. On his last night, he performed in a full length musical. Highly recommended! RID: 51661

9/19/16   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter loved Camp Ballibay. The facilities were amazing. The kids had freedom to choose from many kinds of artistic opportunities - art, dance, theater, theater tech, music, horse back riding and more. My daughter, who is skilled in art, was able to learn new techniques and experiment with a variety of media, as well as start from scratch with excellent drumming lessons. She had an amazing experience, made many new friends, and loved seeing so much work in theater, dance and music created by the other kids. On top of that, the food was amazing! Healthy, fresh and prepared with great care. RID: 50117

8/13/16   5     5     5     5     5   Just brought our daughter home today from her first week at Farm Arts and she loved it. Already registered her for next year! From our perspective as parents as well as hers, everything about her experience was positive. Before registering we received a personal tour while the camp was in session and saw all of the different programs in action. Then at drop off we met the director and others (nurse, cabin staff e.g.). I think if I had to sum up what impressed us the most it would be 1) The myriad of opportunities to explore new talents in addition what you sign up for. E.g - you sign up for Farm arts but want to try guitar you can request an intro lesson, or perhaps martial arts one afternoon? they'll accommodate that as well 2) the staff - it's obvious the camp goes to great lengths to carefully scrutinize their applicants - engaged, friendly, attentive, professional, responsible all of them. and 3) the food -heavenly was the word she used to describe it.  8/12/16   5     5     5     5     5   My 11yr old daughter attended the Farm Arts program. She felt Ballibay Camp was "AWESOME" and loved the range of activities. She insisted on returning next year. The counsellor staff was very attentive and my daughter loved them dearly. The administrative operations were fairly smooth but some could use a little fine tuning. My daughter is excited about going back to camp. RID: 49932

4/27/16   5     5     5     5     5   My children have been going to Ballibay for four summers now and I couldn't be happier that it's a formative part of their childhoods. The environment and activities are stimulating and nourishing; the camp fosters a spirit of both independence and community within its campers, and I feel so confident and happy when I drop them off each year. The projects--from art to theater and beyond--that they work on are consistently impressive and challenging, and my kids are always so excited about and have such pride in the work that they have done. Everyone on staff has always been a pleasure for me to deal with and my kids have loved their counselors and talk about them months after the session is over. Another thing that my kids talk about with much fondness is the food! They. Love. It. It can be difficult to find the perfect fit for kids and sleep away camps, but I can't imagine any child who wouldn't love Ballibay. I feel lucky that we found it. I know my kids do too. RID: 49561

4/15/16   5     5     5     5     5   It was this time last year that I was searching for an experience for my daughter Eva. We wanted something that would match her personality - free-spirited, creative, and open-minded. A place that would let her grow - in her music and her mind. A place where she could be her authentic self 24/7 - quirky and funny and incredibly gifted in so many ways. And when I found Ballibay, we knew this was the place! I am so grateful to your camp for giving my daughter an experience that has forever changed her life. At Ballibay, she found a place that allows her to be whoever she wants to be. And day to day, hour to hour, that person can change. At Ballibay, that's ok. Everyone gets it - and accepts the Eva she wants to be at that moment of the day. And she brought that home with her. Thank you for building such an amazing experience for these kids. Allison - mom of Eva, 14, Ballibay & Rock Farm camper 2015 and forever! RID: 49538

3/24/16   5     5     5     5     5   Our daughters Ella (12), Mercy (10) had such an amazing experience at The Ballibay Camps exploring multi-mediums in visual art, music, dance, theater, audio/visual production, radio broadcasting all the while building the life skills of taking responsibility for their days and their schedules in a absolutely stunning low-key rustic wooded landscape. When they were not immersed in the fantastic programming they relished the simple pleasures of making friends with bunkmates, playing games in the fields, singing camp songs around the bonfire, grooming and riding horses. The icing on the cake were three amazingly delicious and nutritious meals a day and the chance to get their hands dirty with the staff baking snacks. In the evenings they had an BLAST participating in the evenings performances, readings, exhibits and concerts. Of all the vacations or experiences we have offered our girls Ballibay is the one they reflect upon the most and cannot wait return to again this summer RID: 49494

3/14/16   5     5     5     5     5   This camp has it all! Great programs, great counselors, great environment, and great food, yes great camp food! Our daughter has gone for a number of years and has become part of a outstanding community of kids that she stays in touch with year round. Kids at Ballibay are encouraged to be expressive, creative, and take on the responsibility of managing their schedules. How do I know? My fifteen year old daughter loves it so much that she asked me to apply to be an artist in residence and experience Ballibay with her. So last summer I went to camp, as a teaching/visiting artist. I was overwhelmed by the support, care and understanding from campers and camp staff that was extended to everyone they encountered. I can't recommend this camp more highly! RID: 49472

3/12/16   2     5     5     4     5   As an arts camp, Ballibay has a lot going for it. The range of activities is wonderful and the facilities are great considering the relatively low cost. But the people are really what makes Ballibay what it is. In my 3 years there, I met some of the most creative and talented but also kind and supportive people I've ever known, among both campers and counselors. I made some of my best friends there. Unfortunately, all of this contrasts sharply with the flawed administration, which created a culture of fear and secrecy which permeated my otherwise amazing experience. I am a well-behaved and obedient kid, but by the end of my last year at Ballibay I felt I had to think carefully about every decision I made, from the clothes I wore to who I sat with at lunch to every word I chose. It's very ironic that such a welcoming and creativity-fostering place is also heavily censored and not the least bit transparent about its policies. I love Ballibay, but I just don’t feel comfortable returning. RID: 49469

3/11/16   1     1     2     1     1   Horrible experience. I cried every day I was there. My cell phone was taken away, understandable but still a little weird. We HAD to turn the lights off to go to sleep at 830 pm, ridiculous. I slept with a wasps nest above my bed the whole time I was there. The bathroom STALL doors don't lock. The showers are tiny. The food was gross and in a weird cafeteria. The buildings are very old. In all of the videos the campers said that they let you choose to do whatever you want any time you want, that's completely false. You have to get up very early and have a set schedule. It was not enjoyable. There is no freedom. My friend and i went to the head office to ask if we could call our parents. They told us no. I was allowed to send an EMAIL to my parents, begging them to pick me up. Little did I know, the owner of the place was sitting across from me reading the email as I was typing from a different computer. He told me that I was a disgrace and that my parents probably are ashamed of me. Ba RID: 49468

9/15/15   5     4     5     5     5   My son attended Ballibay's "Rock Farm" program for the first time this past summer and had a wonderful experience. He loved the counselors, instructors and campers, and raved about the food, which was a major selling point for us. He made a lot of new friends, many with whom he has been keeping in touch. The end of session Band Night was so much fun for our son, as well as his parents and grandparents! During the first week of camp, our son became extremely homesick. Campers are able to email home and so as soon as he communicated this to us, I called the camp. They immediately sprang into action and adjusted a few things to try make him feel better and keep his mind off of his homesickness. (It worked!) The communication between the administration and parents was wonderful. If your child plays an instrument and loves rock music, I highly recommend The Rock Farm! RID: 49181

8/18/15   5     4     5     5     5   I saw my awesome kids blossom this summer. This is a beautiful magical place to send your children. It is not too big, perfect size, a real community full of interesting creative thinking kids. They have a wonderful dance, art and rock program that is intense focus or you can do it all as my kids did under camp Ballibay. At night when I was there at a show the Milky Way comes alive in the sky. The big sky and natural suroundings were so lovely especially for my city kids. The staff were professionals, and caring. The food was great, salad bar and fresh food. Wonderful! The activities in tech theater, performing arts, fine arts, dance, music - Rock and classical, cooking, horse riding, swimming the list was endless. RID: 49090

8/10/14   5     4     5     5     5   Our daughter has attended the Ballibay endless mountains dance camp for 3 years and this year stayed on for Ballibay 2. We cannot say enough about how wonderful it has been for her She has made lots of new friends, improved her dance skills, her confidence on stage and blossomed and it has translated into wonderful experiences for her even outside of camp. She has loved her teachers and saves up her own money all year so that she can return each year. In addition, she comes home with all kinds of new foods that she has discovered and wants to try to eat at home. We love Ballibay! RID: 47821

7/8/14   5     5     5     5     5   My son is just back from his 5th summer at Ballibay. We love Ballibay. The Rock Farm has been such an important part of his growth and development as a drummer/musician and person. He loves the food, the people and the whole experience. Everyone went about and beyond this year, particularly when travel plans were challenging because of weather and flight schedules. Kristin and Jim helped make sure everything was taken care of and were so helpful to ensure we could get him there and back. Another great summer! This camp is the perfect camp for independent, free-spirited, creative kids! RID: 47547

4/21/14   5     5     5     5     5   Starting from 6, my children have attended Ballibay every summer. Now they're 17, 12 & 11! It's they're favorite place to be. They've made great friends, and come back confident and happy. The campers as well as counselors are from around the counrty and world! They have a nice diverse group of children. And their counselors have always made my kids feel comfortable and well taken care of. My kids are well rounded in all the arts, music, pottery, theater, dance and more! And the food is healthy and fresh, but there's still pizza on Fridays. It's a wonderful community of kids, counselors and staff that sincerely love to be with children and teach and learn. We are privileged to be a Ballibay family! RID: 47222

4/14/14   5     5     5     5     5   Around 15 years ago my sister, my best friend, any I attended this summer camp two years in a row. I can truly say it was the two best summers ever! We made life long friends at this camp. Learned all kinds of things that we wouldn't have otherwise. I play many instruments and I accredit this to the camp. I went in playing alto saxophone and left having tried many other wind instruments and even base. One day when I have kids old enough I will surely be sending them to this magnificent place! The family that runs this camp is great and I wish them all the best! Best summer of my childhood. So, I must also say Thank You to this camp, their counselors, and the owners. Thank you. RID: 47200

11/9/13   5     4     5     5     5   My daughter had the best two weeks of her entire life at Ballibay's "Camptown Theater Workshop". It was her first time away from home, and we were all a bit nervous, but the staff and counselors made her feel at home right away. The education she received in acting, voice, and dance was extraordinary, especially when you consider how much less expensive Ballibay is compared to many New York-area arts camps. She also had time for non-theater activities, including swimming, gardening, horseback riding, and pottery lessons. She has made friends from around the country that I believe will last her for many years to come. She came home after two weeks with a new confidence in herself and her abilities. I cannot say enough good things about this camp. (Although it would be nice if the showers were just a LITTLE bit more comfortable...) All in all, I HIGHLY recommend Ballibay to any family with a kid who's interested in the performing arts. RID: 46253

10/24/13   5     5     5     5     5   Incredible place. This past summer was my 11 year old's 2nd year and my 9 year old's first year and it couldn't have been better. We thought they might be together but they were in neighboring cabins and my 9 year old didn't have one issue. They both made friends so quickly, loved their counselors and love all of the amazing work they do. In addition, and something I really appreciated, they love the food. They have their own garden and the kids participate in the "garden to table" program. The food is not "kid" food...it is well prepared, healthy food that everyone enjoys. The grounds are beautiful and the place is well-maintained. My kids are already talking about going again next year...and my 8 year old son plans on joining them. RID: 46187

10/15/13   5     5     5     5     5   I am a proud alumnus of the Ballibay Performing Arts camp, having attended four years in a row during my middle and high school years. I continue to look back on my time there as a formative experience both professionally as well as emotionally. I formed friendships that remain to this day and took on skills that carry with me, and that wouldn't have been possible were it not for the supportive, collaborative, and deeply trusting environment established by the founders and staff. The staff were professional and also understanding of diverse needs. The facilities were state of the art. The activities and schedule were set up in a way that everyone could be included and accomodated, and everyone was in sync with one another. I can't say enough about my incredible experience; I look forward to sending my own children to Ballibay. RID: 46123

8/26/13   5     5     5     5     5   Ballibay is a place where you can be yourself and you won't be judged. It's a very easy place to make friends. In terms of staff- they are amazing. They know what to do AND are fun. The cabins are rustic but you get use to them. They become your home. The facilities such as the art barn, dance building and theater are great. The actives are unbelievable. You get to choose what you want to do and then get called for lessons in small groups or private classes. I mostly do theater and I can say that I learn a lot with each show that I am in here and also have a great experience and fun! You get a lot Personal Attention which is great. For example in dance, you can ask to have private tap classes. The food is great. As someone who is vegetarian, the food is really good and healthy and they always have a vegetarian option. This camp is honestly the best place on earth and I cannot wait to go back. It is worth every dollar for the experience that you get. RID: 45864

8/24/13   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Ballibay was life changing for my daughter and nephew. This was the first time both my 16 year daughter and my 14 year old nephew had ever been away from family at a sleep away camp. We were amazed at how they had discovered so many new abilities and talents in just a couple of weeks. For the first time they were able to explore completely independent of us what they wanted to do each day and pushed themselves (in a good way) to work hard and accomplish fantastic performances. The Ballibay staff was incredible. They were extremely knowledgable about the area in which they were instructing and experienced in their field. Some of the staff even formed great bonds with the campers. Each kid got a lot of personal attention with their councelors and the wide range of activities offered by staff allowed for everyone to find something fun to do. This allowed for them to establish some lasting friendships with people who shared their interests. Ballibay was an unforgettable experience! RID: 45835

11/21/11   2     4     4     2     1   ould not advise sending your child to camp ballibay for a three week session. Children come and go every week, which did not allow my daughter to make friends, as some of her friends left after only four days of her being at camp. The staff were wonderful, but it seemed that many of the staff that I had dropped her off with were mysteriously "no longer there" when leaving. Though she had a wonderful time, I was concerned about the instability of the environment. I was concerned to get emails home about a camper that made my child feel unsafe at camp. Overall, though she loved her time and met many great friends after the fact, I was upset by the emails I received home and will not be sending her back to Ballibay. RID: 37328

4/15/11   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going to Ballibay for 3 years now and plan to go for a 4th! I went 1 year for the Theater Intensive and the Rock Camp for 2. I absolutely LOVE them both because it is not corny or anything.(Not fake like a TV movie)For the Rock Intensive you get paired with a band and you can jam everyday and then do all the other activities at the camp. I learned to ride horses and even got to do a live radio show that the campers can listen to! I was amazed at the level of talent of the campers, especially the musicians, they are amazing! All of my friend that I have made there keep in touch with each other and a lot are going back again this year too. Some of them are from different countries such as Japan, France, and Spain, so I cannot wait to see them! I hope to see some of the counselors that were there last year again, they were so awesome and chill! I have been to other summer camps but Ballibay is by far the best!  3/10/11   5     5     5     5     5   I can't say enough good things about Camp Ballibay. My kids have made amazing friends, look forward to going back each year, eat healthier than they do at home, and come back inspired, relaxed, happy and more mature. They have so many activities and fit so much in, without ever feeling rushed or stressed out! I am always amazed by that! The facilities are great, without being too upscale so it doesn't feel like camp. The staff are creative in their own right, plus good with the kids. And the programs don't breed the kind of competitive, stomach-churning nonsense I was afraid a performing arts camp would. At all. I don't know how they do it...I'm just glad they do...and honored that my kids get to go. It will be one of the things I look back on as a parent, pat myself on the back, and say, "you did good by your kids." RID: 35309

8/23/10   5     5     5     5     5   This has been my 5th year at camp Ballibay, and each year has been exactly what I have wanted it to be. I began at the two week theater intensive program, which was a great help with musical theater, as well as Shakespearian theater. My 4th year, I came to the three week Ballibay session, and found out I could do all the theater I loved, as well as improve some of the music skills I also love. This past year I was able to both be in two full plays (musical theater, and comical Shakespeare) as well as play in a band on rock night (on the violin, Ballibay being one of the few places where the violin is not considered simply a orchestral instrument). I was able to do all these things, have time for lessons in other areas I am interested in, and just hang out with friends. If I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to preform something, or if I had practiced something enough times to play it well for a show, there'd always be a counselor there, telling me I could. Thank you Ballibay! RID: 33841

8/22/10   5     5     5     5     5   Our 14 yr daughter went here for the RockFarm to learn more about her instrument (the electric bass). She came home SO enthusiastic about music, the bass, and so much more confident in herself. She was the bassist for 2 bands and practiced 2 hours each day; also she had individual instruction, they had a rock band concert! She could chose other camp activities daily and she chose to go to the art barn and made a beautiful clay, fired, bowl. Her fellow campers and instructors were from all over the world (including Pennsylvania where the camp is located!). I went to a YMCA camp as a youngster but it hardly compared to Ballibay - Ballibay is a "theme-based" camp (for us, music, but they also offer dance, horseback riding, art and other specific activites) really was dollar for dollar significantly better than the general camp that I went to. The staff and owners of the camp love what they do and it really is evident! We'll not hesitate to sign our daughter up next year! RID: 33835

8/22/10   5     5     5     5     5   This summer was my daughter's (10) second summer at Ballibay. The camp is truly beautiful surrounded by gorgeous PA nature, but the most amazing thig was the STAFF. They are true musicians, artists and theater techs from all over the country and the world. If your child is a professional minded performer, this is the camp you want. If your child is a shy artist, this is the camp you can trust. If your child is just wanting to get away for summer, this is the camp she/he wants to be at... because Ballibay offers the best of the bests. The administration and staff are dedicated, talented, enthusiastic people and there is a reason why so many campers return year after year. It's philosophy of "It's the Journey.. not the Product" and its focus on non-competitive, individual choice programs really makes this camp unique.  5/19/09   5     5     5     5     5   Ballibay helped our son explore his passion for music and developed a technical understanding. He was brought into the creative process and encouraged to find his voice and need to make music. In the off season he worked very hard. He learned to play his instrument and can now be called a young musician. His confidence, work ethic and ability to work in groups have really blossomed. All this would not have been possible without the inspiration of camp management and a talented and dedicated staff. Together they have created a safe, supervised environment that looks and feels "bohemian" and yet has real structure and sets serious yet attainable goals. The food was good, the physical plant was clean and well maintained. We felt very confident about his well-being while at camp. We were able to communicate with our son regularly by email, and we were encouraged to visit he was there. We highly recommend the Ballibay experience - it was a life-changing experience for our son. The camp is well run by a dedicated owner and the terrific staff. My daughter has made her best friends at this camp. The activities offered are extensive. This is a camp where self esteem blossoms. I would highly recommend this camp. RID: 27463

Click to report rating    3/31/08   5     5     5     5     5   I was a staff member at Ballibay and, having worked at quite a few camps through the years, I am still impressed by the programs and activities available to the campers. Much of this is due to the broad range of experience that the staff brings to the table. On top of the theatrical, musical, artistic and technical expertise, the campers benefit from a variety of hobbies that the staff shares. I would encourage every family to consider Ballibay. If your child has any artistic interest in anything from rock n' roll to classical music, radio, film, theatre, writing, dancing, photography, painting or ceramics (to name a few)...this is the place to be! Definitely give Ballibay a try this summer!! RID: 21813

Click to report rating    3/31/08   5     5     5     5     5   From my experiences at Camp Ballibay, I found that I grew as a person and learned lots of new things. I recieved personal, helpful, and valuable attention from my counselors that I still use to this day. In addition I experienced many new activites from learning a new instrument to the workings of technical theatre. RID: 21788
Click to report rating    3/31/08   5     5     5     5     4   Ballibay changed my life. I attended Ballibay for six summers. If you are a person who loves theatre and making new friends then this is the camp for you. It has everything in the performing and visual arts and you can do all of it or pick and choose certain things. The camp has a theatre production every night run by the campers. Campers are actors, costumers, lighting, sound, video, and audio. There are dance classes and voice lessons. The art barn contains all types or art drawing, painting, pottery, photography, print making, jewelery making and if the art barn doesn't have it but you want it then you can do it. There are lots of instrument lessons. If you like sports there is golf, soccer, volleyball, a pool, 2 tennis courts with basketball, and horse back riding! The cabins are great for camp and the food is great. I have made friends there that will last me my entire life. This truly is an amazing camp with a beautiful setting and a beautiful message anything is possible. RID: 21777
Click to report rating    3/31/08   4     5     5     5     5   One of the best camps of its kind: great learning facilities, traditional/fun cabin living quarters and good food, a close-knit family atmosphere and opportunities far beyond what is generally available to kids these days - Ballibay is the perfect place for youth interested in the arts! Click to report rating    2/19/08   5     5     5     5     5   Ballibay is a great camp. Campers there choose their schedule. They can be in a play or dance, or sing. They can play an instrument, do all kinds of visual arts, be in a radio show, work behind the scenes in the theater on camera, in sound, making costumes and sets, etc. Campers can do all of those things or just choose what they want to do and try. Campers with experience at these activities will do well, as well as kids that are trying stuff for the first time. My children went there for many years and loved every minute of it. They made lots of friendships that continue outside of camp. The staff is caring and well qualified in their area of instruction. The food is good. The administration is great. I really don't have a single negative thing to say about Ballibay. It's a great choice for people who are interested in the arts. RID: 20462
Click to report rating    8/29/07   5     5     5     5     5   I have the distinction of being both an employee and a client of Ballibay. I thought it was Heaven. I would agree with others who suggest it best suits an "artsy" kid, as it is not a traditional jock camp. Relative to my other camp experiences, however, it is also almost zero sum competitiveness, and extremely open and receptive to all levels of participation. The owners of the camp are highly in tune with each camper, and problems are solved as quickly as they are discovered. If you and your prospective camper like theater, art, and great food, I would heartily suggest Ballibay. RID: 14626
6/23/07   2     3     2     2     2   I attending this camp many years ago, so things might have changed. I am very artsy, but quite shy and I was made to feel very uncomfortable. I was actually berated by one visiting director for not being outgoing enough. I would recommend this camp only to very outgoing children who are interested strictly in theatre. RID: 12399
Click to report rating    10/5/06   5     4     5     5     3   As a camper at Ballibay, I'd say that first summer was probably the besty-best-best summer I've ever had. Not only are all the things I'm interested in offered there, but you can get individual lessons. The staff is really nice, also. Even in your first year, in about a week you get used to everything happening and when everything is done. By the second week, you feel like it's your home. By the third week, you don't know what you've been doing all your life without it. (Or at least, that's how I felt.) RID: 3763
Click to report rating    6/27/06   5     4     5     5     4   I only went once to Ballibay (although I would have liked to go again, my schedule didn't permit it), but I had so much fun there. It's 2 years later and I'm still talking to and finding time to see the friends I made there. There aren't many performing arts camps (that I was able to find)that don't make you have a major to attend. That's a big reason I loved it there. Because I didn't want to focus on just one area, I dance, I play instruemnts, sing, act, and draw. The teachers were great and had good background credits and the counselors were mad cool and super nice. RID: 1187
5/12/06   5     5     5     5     5   I spent several summers at Ballibay as a camper, did their CIT program, and have been back to work there. The camp just seems to get better and better! I wish the programs were as good as they are now when I was a camper. It's a great place to be a kid. It's not easy to work there, but can be very rewarding if you give yourself over to it. It's a real drag to be there if you are not an artsy type I think. This goes for staff or campers. But if you are into any and/or all of the arts: theater, visual art, music, dance, rock, video, or radio, the camp offers unbelievalbe opportunity. Criticisms? They ought to use their lake more. More hikes in the woods and things like that, too. Also world music/dance programs would be a good addition. African dance & drumming, for instance. The camp website needs to be updated, too. But, really, it's a great camp and 99% of what they are doing is perfect. RID: 316
