I spent five years at Avoda (four as a camper and one as a CIT). Avoda is a great place for young boys to create long lasting friendships and special memories. The sports and level of competition surpass what you'll find at most other camps. I do think that the more athletic boys get special treatment over the average to lesser athletic ones. The facilities can be improved but are not horrible. Staff varies. Some members are excellent and really care for the campers while others are mentally checked out and could care less about the campers' well being. I witnessed some Avoda counselors swearing at their campers. Overall I think Avoda is a great place because of the strong competition in sports and the bonds that are formed between friends, but some counselors need to be more fair to the campers that aren't the most popular or the most athletic.

If you like sports, hanging out with your best friends all summer, then you will love Avoda. The competition is intense, but it is well-structured and not too over the top. This camp has made me a more confident person, and has given me some of my best friends. If you don't like playing sports a lot, there are other opportunities at Camp Avoda. I love this place, and I hope you do too.

Went for many years as counselor and camper. It was the best and helped me grow into a man and helped me develop confidence. My best lifelong friends are all Avodians.

An amazing, intimate camp with fantastic administrators and homegrown staff. It is not a fancy camp but has everything a camper needs to have a great summer. Its small size means campers get to know all campers and staff regardless of bunk or age. The older campers really behave like big brothers to the younger campers. The boys get to be themselves because they're not competing for a girl's attention.. It is a very special place.

Our son had a great experience at this camp. He was ready to go back before he even left. We're surprised by the comment about bullying. The directors, from what we can tell, don't tolerate it, and the campers have had Friday night discussions about it, how it is hurtful, and how to deal with it as a group and with their counselors. We plan to continue sending our son to this camp, and we know he'll have a great time again.

My son was bullied in this camp. There is no set policy for this, except enabling this behavior as well as cursing. The lack of supervision was appaling.

Our son had an amazing camp experience thanks to Camp Avoda. There is a very strong sense of family at the camp; almost all the staff and all of the counselors are former campers, and there is a lot of love of and pride in the camp and its traditions. Our son, like most boys, doesn't usually give many details about anything he does. On the ride home from camp, however, he could not stop talking about camp. He came home feeling connected to a wonderful group of boys and to a wonderful place. Be ready for a lifetime commitment--once your son goes for one summer, he will go back year after year.

The camp was good but when Davis leaves and Shifman takes over I will be sad. It's nothing personal against Shifman except the fact that he is a really bad directer. He is making all these new rules like: No more cursing, have to wear shoes/sandals all the time and more BS. I do kinda regret signing up this summer now that I think of it though

I went to avoda for 9 years, and my father went for 16. 3 of my uncles attended, and 2 of my cousins. My fathers best friend at Avoda introduced him to his future wife, my mom. If it were not for this camp, i would not be alive. That is not the reason that i consider it to be the greatest place on earth. It not only makes a youngsters summer the best time that he can possibly have, it enriches their life and helps them grow up into a man. I would not be the man i am today without camp avoda. It has taught me so many life lessons that words alone do not do it justice. The world is a better place with camp avoda, and my single biggest regret is that i needed to enter the real world and had to leave paradise behind... so as the saying goes "10 monthes to better life"

If you like sports and intense competition, Avoda is the camp for you. The whole camp is basically based around sports. If you aren't good at sports, it's not a big deal, you just have to have a good attitude and a willingness to get better. You don't need to be popular to have a good time.

This is the greatest place I have ever known, at first I thought I wouldn't enjoy it as much as my brothers, when I finally got there though, it was amazing. It has single handedly changed my entire life, I have made friends that I will have forever, and as for the counselors, they really care about you and make your summer as good as camp was for them when they were campers, I strongly encourage anyone to attend who likes a fun, competitive, and friendly atmosphere, this will be my fifth summer and I can hardly wait, almost everyday I think about it and what it has done to me.

After spending 4 years at Avoda I found it to be very average. The sports are good but I thought my counselors where all lazy and favored certian campers. If you are not Mr. Popular than Avoda is not for you. The few other camps I have visited seemed to have nicer facilities and where definitely cleaner.

I can't stress it enough, this camp is right for everybody. Anybody remotely polite will comeback year after year. I am no longer a camper but intend to be on staff next year. People come back year after year because it means so much to them. You cant describe a place like Avoda i recommend it to everybody. It is not a religious camp it is merely for jewish boys. Its main focus is sports, you are in such great shape by the end of the summer. This camp really was the best thing that ever happened to me. The best memories fo my child hood are from that place.

Camp Avoda is a great place. I am going back for my 5th summer this year. The staff is very nice, but a lot of the kids are mean and just generally bad people. The camp does focus on religion, but it's other main focus, possibly bigger then religion, is sports. They do play all the traditional sports and some made up ones. Overall, I would say it is a good experiance, but it does make people a little meaner due to some of the horrible kids there.
