I had a terrible experience with this camp. As other people have said in previous comments, it does have a huge problem with bullying. The last time I attended this camp was a few years ago. I was bullied non-stop, every day, on a 22 day canoe trip. I honestly felt like it was the longest month of my life. I was bullied so much that I would wander into the woods all alone for hours each day and cry in the woods nonstop. There were multiple incidents of severe physical bullying, including one girl kicking and punching my head at about 7 am when she thought I was asleep, and two girls squirting urine in my mouth with squirt guns. To this day, I cry every time I think about this camp. It has had a lasting negative impact on my life. Not to mention that the camp refused to acknowledge that this even happened. I would definitely not trust my children to the care of this camp. I now go to Wanapitei, and it stands in stark contrast to the horrible, heavy atmosphere of Wap.

My daughters attended one year. They had a very poor experience. There was bullying and ostracizing in the cabin with no intervention from the counsellor. Only 1 counsellor for 8 children. The director of the girls camp keeps changing, zero consistency and never followed through with a phone call to us as promised re. our concerns. Little supervision on trip, the counsellors didn't even camp beside the kids. The girls cabins were dirty and run down. Letters home were so sad. We chose this camp in part because there was horseback riding, but they only went once in 2 weeks and hardly rode by the time everyone got their gear on. Would not go back.

This camp has a serious bullying problem and a serious supervision problem, both of which they refuse to acknowledge. I was bullied a lot while at camp this summer. This was partly due to the fact that the staff in trip didn’t watch us past about 5:00.

I hate this camp!! You are considered really weird and in cool unless you want to go on like a 50 day canoe trip!! Don’t send your daughter here, she will feel shafted and neglected!!!

Life changing. Learned to push past the limits that held me back, learned I could do anything. Canoe trip does that to you. Other than my parents, the single biggest influence in my life. Now paying for my grandson to attend Ahmek, sent both my son and daughter too.

i mean, my bff went here, and got really sick, nobody cared, the staff seemed to be nice to other campers, but not her. she just got sent to the quaranteen cabin BY HERSELF (the nurse cam though) overall, from what i've heard, this camp SUCKS.

This will be my 8th year at Wap and I can truly say that it's my second home. Of course you have to be crazy to go there, because once you go for a month, you'll never want to go home!!! staff is amazing! trip quality is amazing! all of the staff put their lives into the life of the camp. Best decision I've ever made

I both went to and worked at this camp. Great memories and great experiences. It is a real character building place – the activities are challenging and I think are exceptional for building self-confidence in kids. Canoe tripping is the main activity here and I think it may just be the best in Canada for this activity. The Statten family has owned it for 4 generations and the experience shows. Will send my child here in 2 years when old enough. Good camp.

This camp is a little over-priced for what it actually offers. Most of the staff are pretty awesome, they bring joy to the campers. You really have to love canoeing if you go there cause you do it often and around the end of the session that you're there, they go on a canoe trip which is very tough cause you canoe pretty much half the day which gets exhausting and then the other half of the day you do portages with a huge pack (almost as big as your body) and can walk for long distances. Also the more you get older, the more days you leave to do the canoe trip ( I went up to 7 days which was way to much!). And once you turn 12, you have to go to the camp for a month which could be a little to much for some people. But you make very good friends at this camp that you will never forget and have many amazing memories of the place.

My family has been going to Wap/Ahmek for 4 generations, and I am getting ready to send my 9 year old daughter to Wap for her fourth year! This camp offers an outstanding experience for girls. Between the sailing, riding, ropes course, canoeing and all of the other activities, she is kept busy and active while continually learning new skills, and learning about herself. She has only gone on short canoe trips so far, but I did a 22 day trip in Kipawa when I was 15 - what an incredible experience! I truly believe that camp is such a healthy and fun way to build confidence and indepedance, and Wap is (in my opinion) the best one for girls. It is a bit pricey, but what my grandmother, mother, daughter and I have learned at Wap is priceless! "Here let the northwoods spirit kindle fires of friendship"

I highly reccomend this camp. It's not like all of the other camp's out there who say " our camp with change your life". Camp Wapomeo truely will. It is a tripping camp and has trips ranging for 4- 50 days. Nomatter how long you go for, you will not regret it. You will be amazed by this camp, and the only thing bad about it is that it goes by too fast. Thank you Wapomeo, for 4 of the best summers of my life. You truely mean the world to me.

been camper then staff since 1999, best camp ever, I love it there! When I got hired as staff, it was like a dream come true, something I had been waiting for since I started going there! The staff are outstanding, facilities are great, with the "brother" camp, Ahmek across the lake. Activities are great, we have intercamp once a week to get to know the guys. Personal attention - there is always someone to lend an ear, whether you are there as a staff member or a camper. And as for monetary value, it's as good as it gets!
