This camp was my first sleep away camp! When I tell you it reminds of a second home I'm not kidding, everyone is so nice and comforting including counselors and campers everyone in my family has gone and loved it so 10/10 would recommend!

Now that I’m older I can say with a more mature mindset that this camp sucked some serious ass. I still feel like I experience trauma from this camp. I went two years in a row and had problems with bullying and the counseled completely ignored me even when I cried uncontrollably. I was well liked, but it’s a bad idea to put your daughter in a all-girls camp because of the inevitable ****iness that it entails. Some girls tried to fight me while I was minding my business, and the counselors only liked the popular girls. They moved my cabins several times just when I was making friends in each. Now into my first year of college I can say with certainty that I really really wish i made better use of my summer and worked or went to an educational camp. An all-girls experience is never a good one. Honestly I hope this place shuts down

Farwell is a fantastic camp for girls, far and away the best in the field. The individual attention given to each girl(without 'nannying')is incredible. The people who own and run the camp are genuine, creative, committed and really know how to foster an atmosphere that is growth orientated and yet always FUN. Over the course of several summers I have watched friendships flourish between girls from different parts of the world and sometimes quite different places within it. I'll be forever grateful to Camp Farwell for great experiences my daughter has had there.

Camp Farwell is amazing! The Staff is so friendly and helpful! This will be my adopted daughter/granddaughter's third year. She has gained such confidence and independence after going to Camp Farwell. They are all about helping families let their children experience this great camp. She has made many friends that she has kept in touch with from all over! She loves the counselors and raves about the food! She enjoys being able to swim in the lake everyday, and the fun activities! She hopes to be able to enjoy the horse backing riding program at some point!

Awesome, family run place with amazing staff! Interesting and diverse offerings the girls can elect themselves! Very empowering overall. Marley Hanson and the crew are so attentive, smart, caring and positive! This is a smaller camp which we believe was the best way to have our daughter bond with other young women and have a truly first-class quality experience. We are going back next summer for sure for at least a mont!!!

I'm going back to camp this summer for my 7th year and I can't wait! My sister went to Farwell for years and loved it as well. I'm so happy that I've been able to have the opportunity to go to Farwell for so many years because I have honestly had the best times of my life at camp. I've met so many great people and some of my closest friends are ones I've made at camp. Farwell attracts both campers and counselors from all over the US and the world, so I have been able to visit so many of my friends on short trips in the US but I have also been able to visit some counselors in the UK. These friends I've made who live abroad are part of the reason why I will likely apply to colleges in the UK and I don't think I would have such an interest in going to school abroad if Farwell had not had so many international campers and counselors. I have never felt more at home and more welcome in a community than I do at camp and I'm so lucky to have gone to a place like this for so many years.

I have been at Camp Farwell for four years and I highly recommend it. It is such a wonderful camp with amazing staff and fun activities. For instance, the horseback riding program is phenomenal! I have so many amazing memories with other campers and staff. Additionally, I have some friendships from camp that will last a lifetime. The cabins are comfortable and it is very fun to stay with other girls your own age.

I am returning to Farwell for my 7th summer and I am ecstatic. Farwell has meant so much to my throughout my childhood and young adult years. I've made incredible friends and have had experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The staff is always amazing and the food is great too! The activities offered are immersive and always fun. I was able to take videography as an activity for many of my summers at Farwell and this eventually led into a passion for filmmaking that I am now pursuing as a career. I will forever value my summers at Farwell and I would assure every parent that their child would have an unforgettable time at this amazing camp.

Camp Farwell was a fantastic place to spend my summer for the past 8 years. The sense of family I feel just by stepping on the property is enormous. Farwell facilitated a place for me to grow up and be myself. Beyond that as a CIT, I got to watch other young girls do the same, breaking out of their comfort zones and getting to be stars in their own right. I have formed such strong bonds with the staff and with my fellow campers, keeping in touch with staff and people I met my first year. My sisters and I all got to experience different parts of camp; My oldest sister focussed on land sports, my other sister focussed on riding, and I focussed on performing arts. Each area was excellent and all of us loved camp. Farwell presents a unique experience to each camper and I can't say enough about how much a recommend it- I will never forget my summers spent 'neath the pines.

I was a camper at Farwell for ten years, from age six to fifteen. Looking back, I can see that it was one of the most valuable experiences I had growing up and the friendships I made lasted summer after summer. I was a very shy kid, but always felt welcome and supported by my counselors and peers. Both the directors and counselors were attentive and always available to help us when we needed it. Now that I have been a counselor at Farwell, I can see how well the directors prepare the counselors, and how committed everyone is to ensuring the girls have a great summer. Farwell is an incredible place for girls to step out of their comfort zones, make lasting friendships, and build confidence and independence in a safe, encouraging environment.

I am an alumna of Camp Farwell, having attended as a camper for 4 years. Now, several years later, I can say with confidence that Farwell had a big influence on the person that I am today. Farwell has a strong emphasis on teaching independent problem solving skills and confidence in an environment where every member of the community feels safe to be their true selves. The personal skills that I learned at camp have helped me immensely, most significantly when I moved to college. I loved Farwell's emphasis on diversity, especially in the vast majority of international staff members and significant number of international campers. As a result of this, I am lucky to have friends all over the world. The Hansons are wonderful people who care deeply about creating the best possible experience for each camper, and that caring is demonstrated every day by the staff members that they hire. Overall, I cannot overstate the virtues of Camp Farwell and I recommend it to anyone with young daughters.

I'm going back for my 7th summer at Farwell in a few days. It's the only summer camp I've ever been to, so when I see my friends watching TV and charging their phones and straightening their hair at their camps, I am always so surprised! Farwell is kind of traditional in that aspect; no outlets in the cabin, no phones, no digital cameras, etc. I actually like it that way! The cabins are rustic but clean and not too crowded. Unfortunately, since I started coming to Farwell I've noticed a definite decrease in the quality of the staff, which is kind of sad. The counselors aren't mean or anything, but there are more and more counselors coming in who seem like they don't care. Besides that I have really loved being both a camper and counselor-in-training because of the campers there! There is so much love, acceptance, and diversity in the community, as there are girls who fly in on private jets and girls who take the bus from the bronx. No one cares if you're "cool" or not there. Highly Rec

This camp is terrible! I'm 13 now and the first year it was great but I agree with the other comments, once you get older the girls get cliquey. I was pretty popular but I had to leave half way in because the camp was to terrible! Some girl threatened to slap me WHEN I WAS BEING NICE TO HER AND SHE SAID THAT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. That of course was the girl that the counslers LOVED. She was so mean to all of my friends and used physical violence and scream at us, and when I stood up to her went to the counslers and gave them a story of how we were mean to her and yelled at her??! Than we had a cabin meeting and I explained to the director, Shelbe, that she was mean to us. And just because she started crying, she blamed LITERALLY EVERYTHING ON ME. I was tired of her and I tried to polite but she accused me of rolling my eyes(which I did not) and lied to my mom, and was EXTREMLEY RUDE TO HER. I have issues with my father and he emailed me and SHE READ ALLLL MY EMAILS! DO NOT GO HERE!!!

I love Camp Farwell!! I think it's a great place to try for a few summers. I LOVE the arena days, the great activities, the pines, and almost everything else. The only downsides are you have to watch out for some nasty girls, there's always a few. I also didn't like some counselors, I found them quite mean. Also, I would've liked a bigger activity selection, but other than those I think Camp Farwell is a fantastic camp!

Farwell is the best camp in all of america! It is coming up on my 6th year and there is a reason I keep going back! The counselors are very attentive and are always very nice. The activities never get old and each evening activity is always fun and unique! One of the best parts of the camp is the cabin bonding. during quiet time, at meals, and at bed time there is just so much fun to be had!

My 13 year old daughter has had 3 awesome summers at Farwell. She has attended for 3 weeks and cries every time we pick her up not because she missed us, but because she has to leave. Farewell has the most amazing staff; energetic, helpful, caring, enthusiastic, fun, skilled! The camp is well kept and the lake is wonderful. Food is better than expected. Financially , Farwell is value when looking at the personal attention, breadth of activities.

Camp Farwell is the most amazing camp ever. I have gone there for two years and it is my second home. The staff at camp are really nice, funny, helpful, and give you a lot of personal attention. Not to mention a lot of the counselor are from different countries so you get to understand there culture better. The faculties may be old but they are great. In some peoples opinions the may be a little old and such but they are so nice and have a lot of history. The activities are super fun and interesting. You get to pick all of your activities and they are all awesome. I love the petting zoo and pottery. I also loved the horseback riding. The directors at camp are always looking out for you and if you have an issue you can always tell them. I love how if they are on there days off you can still talk to them and they will be happy to talk. The monetary value is awesome, they are always making sure we are alright! Overall this camp is amazing and it has changed my life. I love camp.

My daughter went to camp for 4 weeks last year and the year before. I am very impressed with the personal attention that she received in her cabin as well as in her activities. When I was there for Parents' Day, all the girls seemed to be very happy and well cared for. She's been talking about Farwell all year long, and this year one her friends from school is joining her for 2 weeks. I have nothing but nice things to say about this camp, especially about the staff. I personally appreciated being kept apprised of how my daughter was doing, especially during her first summer. My younger daughter can't wait to be old enough to go... she's 5 now, so 1 more year.

This will be my daughter's second summer at Farwell. The first summer she was very nervous to leave home, and personally I was worried about her being homesick. I personally spoke with the owners regarding this matter, and they assured me that the staff went through an extensive one week orientation to learn how to be a camp counselor. My daughter was homesick the first two nights, however her counselor gave her her own stuffed animal to "watch over her while she slept"! This summer she is staying longer and can't wait to see her friends from last year. Thank you Camp Farwell for all that you do!

going to camp farwell may have been the worst experience of my life. i dont know what made it so bad.. was it the counsilers, who barley pay attention to yu and are mean and harsh, or was it the facilites , wood cabing with wood beds and hard as rock beds. also you have to walk quiet a bit to get from one place to another.. you have to walk to the bathrooms and the showers. other than that.. it was ..okay

Though the staff sleeps in the cabins with the girls, i barely got to know them. The counselors seemed bored when i got there and were not personal with us at all. I went for horse riding and was severly dissapointed. The first week i did "double riding" which was two lessons a day. But as i learned every other day you do a trial ride, those got stale quickly and were not the safest as i was bucked off twice in the woods and the second time was hurt. At the time i had been riding for three years so they put me on far more challenging horses which was a pain as i was constantly working to keep them from not spooking or running off with me, instead of improving my skill-this may seem selfish but after the first three lessons of not getting to jump you can see where i'm coming from. I found the girls clique-y and the schedule a bit stale. I didn't really get to know the CITs and i wish i had had better oppurtunities to do so.

it was okay, except some of the counselors were mean and harsh. they put me in the wrong cabin group, with girls one to two years younger than me, and when i went at age ten, (three years ago) there was a six year old in my cabin who didn't speak english and was selectively deaf/mute. although the area is beautiful, there are definitely better summer programs out there.

I agree with pretty much everyone else here. The first two years at Farwell were amazing. The third year, it was old. The staff got annoying and the girls got clicky. The activites are very good, and there is a lot to choose from. It's a great camp if you want to try a little bit of everything. I personally wasn't satisfied with the horseback riding, although they do have a very extensive horseback riding program for a general camp. However, I felt that it was unsafe in the intermediate levels. They gave intermediate riders horse that were too challenging, and a lot of kids fell off. It's fine for beginners, and advanced. I was in a more experienced level so it was fine, but sort of a pain because I had to ride all the rude horses. Also some of the instructors had only learned to ride at Farwell and had no idea what they were talking about. So I would recommend Farwell to anyone except intermediate horseback riders looking for a riding program.

I agree with the first person, this was fun the first two years, but for the third year I chose not to go back because, well, it doesn't exactly get boring, but it gets sort of old. The activites are fantastic the setting is beautiful, and the food is also great tasting! Some of the downsides are the facilities, staff, and girls, though. The cabins are rustic and a little bit run down, and you have to walk to the bathroom and showers. Some of the staff I also found cranky and a little bit mean. Most of them were amazing, and the CITS were fun, but a few of the staff members put a bit of a damper on my summer. For what it was, I also thought it very expensive. My first year I absolutely loved the girls in my cabin and the staff; but my second year I did not care for one of my counselors and I encountered many girls who were wealthy and clique-y. But there are also many fun and awesome girls to hang out with. But you can't beat the Farwell campfires and hilarious evening activites!

I agree with the first person, this camp is fun but does get not exactly boring, but old after two years. Also the facilities aren't that great; the cabins are run-down and you have to walk to the showers and bathrooms. The activities are SO much fun though! It's a bt expensive. Sometimes the staff can be a little mean. But overall it's really fun!

"Oh see those Farwell Campers, all standing in a line, and all of them are little pals of mine...." As a camper, C.I.T., junior counselor and senior counselor I have seen all sides of Farwell-and you can give your daughter no better experience than a summer on Halls Lake. Bob and Charyl Hanson (owners) really know what they are doing, the staff comes from all over the world and completely brings their culture and spark to camp, and the location is stunning. I look forward to the day I can send my own daughter there-Farwell is the best!!!!
