Click to report rating    5/22/25   5     2     2     1     1   This camp is horrible. Nobody pays attention to you when you need it. If your child is bullied here, the counselers pay little to no attention to what they need, just saying to go up to the director and even he doesn't;t intervene. Prepare for your child to come home hating camps after due to bullying :) RID: 54206

11/29/18   2     3     3     1     1   New directors are not impressive. Very arrogant and do not have the child's best interest in mind. Many other better options...not worth the large investment. RID: 52345

11/27/18   5     5     5     5     5   Our 14 year old son will be entering his 5th year at MKN after attending another camp for 2 years where things didn't work out. There are not enough words to describe how fantastic MKN is. Our son is by far his best self during the 7 weeks at MKN each summer. They teach him life lessons and skills that I know will carry him into manhood. I LOVE THIS PLACE! It truly is EXTRAORDINARY!! The directors are attentive and know the kids. They hire amazingly good staff members who bond with their boys and make each summer an experience that our son lives for the other 10 months of the year. If you could design a place to send your son, MKN is what you would come up with if you could have everything on your wishlist. RID: 52344

11/25/18   5     5     5     5     5   MKN is truly a great camp for boys! My son has gone to MKN for 4 summers. He has grown so much from his camp experiences. He comes home each summer with new skills, greater confidence and a life long circle of friends. MKN is a great, well balanced camp for boys in the most beautiful spot on the Stockbridge Bowl. MKN's facilities are updated and they are adding such cool and innovative activities for the boys each year. The staff is execellent and extremely easy to reach and even easier to work with on behalf of your camper. My son goes off to camp each summer with a smile on his face! I can't say enough about MKN. We travel from Philadephia each summer to experience the magic in Massachusetts! It's worth it! #MKN #MKNextraordinary #Massachusettsisnotfar #4hoursclose RID: 52341
Click to report rating    11/2/18   5     5     5     5     5   I could not have found a better summer "home" for my 2 sons. Each year they look forward to going back to Stockbridge Bowl and spending time on that beautiful lake. They have made life-long friends and incredible memories. There are so many activities I swear they can never do all in one summer. The staff is incredible. They really "get" boys. They are so creative in coming up with fun, out of the ordinary events that involve the whole camp. When I see the videos, I can't belive my eyes. It take a lot of planning and energy to hold the attention and excitment of a whole camp of guys. If you are looking for an unbeliveable all boys camp that offers more than just sports (hiking, biking, photography, ropes course, lake front, music, tennis, swimming, running and the list goes on) Mah Kee Nac is the place. Click to report rating    7/22/17   1     1     1     1     1   Pathetic. Our son went one day, said he was homesick, and they told him he could go home. Couselors/directors obviously not prepared to handle homesickness. Don't bother. RID: 51067
Click to report rating    8/14/16   5     5     5     5     5   Amazing boys camp! Very attentive to the needs of every child. My child is not a great athlete, but likes to play. He feels confident and successful at MKN. They also have so many creative special events. All around wonderful camp! RID: 49952

7/21/14   5     5     5     5     5   We are so grateful for Camp Mah-kee-nac. It is an amazing boys camp. It is a warm and friendly atmosphere. Our was initially reluctant to go to sleepaway camp. He is having the best summer! Visiting the camp - you see that there is a wide range of boys, from the most athletic to kids with other interests - there is something for everyone. It is also on a beautiful lake. From everyone - director, counselors, staff, campers etc - it is a very good vibe at the camp. The activities and special nights are creative and inclusive. It is perhaps less spread out than some camps - which we like, since it is easy for younger boys to navigate and creates a family atmosphere between different ages. But don't get me wrong, the camp has everything you'd want and has a lot of space. Watching these boys play and be themselves - you can't help but be happy yourself. Top camp, also at a more reasonable rate than some competitor camps. p.s. our son tells us the food is amazing. RID: 47654

8/7/13   5     4     5     5     5   Wow!!! Do we feel lucky to have discovered Camp MKN!!! My son just returned this summer for his 2nd year and he won't come home!!! We got a call from him the week he was supposed to return home asking to stay longer. This is just what we wanted for him--a summer camp that offered such a great experience he wouldn't want to leave. We could not be happier. Camp MKN seems to be the perfect fit for a boy who really enjoys sports, but is not overly competitive. Camp MKN is a bit smaller than some camps and has an easy-going energy. Not every camp fits every child, but Camp MKN has turned out to be the perfect fit for our boy. We pick him up this weekend and suspect he will be dreaming of MKN until next summer : ) RID: 45555

9/20/12   5     5     5     5     5   Camp was amazing. I have been going there for 6 years. This upcoming summer will be my 7th and last. I love all of the sports and the counselors are the best!I love everything about camp. I am even thinking of going back as a counselor. That is how much i love it! RID: 42719
Click to report rating    9/17/12   5     5     5     5     5   My son just returned a few weeks ago from Camp MKN. He had one of the best summers of his life. My wife and I were a little unsettled about sending him to sleep away camp, however, I have to say, all he does is talk about the camp since he has been home. He had a great time and my wife and I felt great that we had made the right decision. Thanks Walter for working with our fears and having us make the right choice! RID: 42696
Click to report rating    9/11/12   5     5     5     5     5   We've had two sons attending Camp Mac-Kee-Nac since 2005 and our youngest will be headed back for his 6th summer in 2013. My greatest concern has always been the health, safety and well being of my boys and I feel completely at ease with the key staff, counselors and facilities. They are all are excellent and have improved significantly in the past 2 years with the new director and his team. While primarily a sports camp, MKN offers many other options including an amazing woodshop (my son never did woodwork before and loves it), media/radio, art and ropes/outdoor adventure program. The staff is very caring and responsive to camper needs. They've also made significant improvements to the facilities (new waterfront, bunks, gaga pits and programs). They've put a lot of effort into improving the camp wide events (Olympics, Green & White) making them more energetic, fun and exciting for all age groups. Mah-Kee-Nac provides a truly great camp experience in a terrific setting! RID: 42656
Click to report rating    9/11/12   5     5     5     5     5   Mah-Kee-Nac is my home away from home. I have been a camper at mah-kee-nac for 7 years and I am going to go back for my brave year which is a CIT. i have only had good experiences at Mah-Kee-Nac, all of the staff is incredible, and they always do an amazing job. It has been the best 7 summers of my life, and I can honestly say when i get home that i have made at least 20 new friends every summer. You are never bored at camp, and you always have someone to talk to when there. All of the special events are fantastic and the breakouts get better and better every year. Program is always fun. Camp is a place where i can go care free and have an awesome time. Weather it is just hanging out in the bunks, down by the waterfront, or out playing a sport i always have a great time. I can honestly say that Mah-Kee-Nac is a big part of my life, and i cant wait to go back year after year to see all of my friends, and the returning counselors. RID: 42654
Click to report rating    9/7/12   5     5     5     5     5   This year as a first year staff I had an amazing experience, I it was great to be able to see all of the children have such an awesome time and be able to also grow and mature. At camp Mah-Kee-Nac it is less about who is better than who at whatever sport, its more of how great are we all improving and I think that it something that makes us special. Mah-Kee_Nac is really a family, they open their arms for every new camper and staff while also celebrating the returners at the same time. As someone who went to other camps for seven years before hand I can honestly say that Mah-Kee-Nac is the greatest camp I have ever seen and I can't wait to go back next year! RID: 42626

Click to report rating    9/5/12   5     5     5     5     5   I've attended Camp Mah-Kee-Nac as a camper for the past 7 summers, and I can truthfully say that its one of the best summer camps out there and its only getting better. Having gone to MKN for so long, I've experienced both the shortcomings of the old directors that are expressed in the older, more negative reviews, and the successes of the new director, Walter Synalovski. Everything that Bunkie and Lynn did wrong, Walter is doing right. Hes completely committed to making MKN the best that it can be and his confidence and positive attitude are contagious. There is more of everything at MKN now: More competition against other nearby camps, more focus on artistic activities, and more special events. The staff is now better than it was before due to a new emphasis on bringing back the best counselors and recruiting former campers to work as counselors also. In fact, many of my friends and I have had such a great time at MKN that we plan on returning to MKN as counselors this coming summer. RID: 42592
Click to report rating    9/3/12   5     5     5     5     5   Having spent the last six years at Mah-Kee-Nac, I can honestly say there is no better way to spend a summer. The arrival of Walter two years ago has reenergized this camp in terms of the quality of staff, maintenance and improvements to bunks and program areas, and has led to what are imaginably the best special events of any camp in the country. Every counselor has a bunk that he lives in with campers, as well as a program area that he staffs. Campers develop an amazing bond with their counselors over the course of the summer, and every employee is knowledgable about their specific area of expertise, genuinely cares about each and every camper at Mah-Kee-Nac, and appears to have a positive relationship with their superiors that helps them improve at their position. Most campers and counselors are returning from multiple previous summers at Mah-Kee-Nac which cultivates a strong tradition of what the camp should be. Prospective parents will be giving their kids the summer of a lifetime RID: 42578
Click to report rating    9/3/12   5     5     5     5     5   When I first came to Camp Mah-Kee-Nac four years ago, I had many notions running through my head about what my summer was going to be like. The last thing I expected to find there was the caring and welcoming community that has since grown to become a second family. Spending the last four years at MKN has offered me not only an opportunity to work with a great many campers, but to truly get to know them and watch them grow up to be fine, upstanding young men. The staff are of the highest quality, recruited from around the world not only because they are genuinely the best at what they teach, but because they demonstrate that they have what it takes to succeed in the high energy environment that is camp life, as well as to live by the Mah-Kee-Nac Way; a series of values at the heart of everything we do that extols the very best in everyone. While camp may have only just ended, I'm already beginning to miss my home away from home, and all the people that make it such a wonderful place! RID: 42577
Click to report rating    8/31/12   5     5     5     5     5   This camp changed the lives of my children. They both returned home after this past summer more confident and happier children. One child being athletic and one child not, there was a place for both of them. They tried activities that in my wildest dreams I could never have imagined them trying, in sports, in the water, wood shop and arts and crafts. The key staff was amazing. Always putting the children first. The director and assistant directors are there to make the summer experience the best they possibly can for your child. They work so hard to bring this camp back to the spirit it once had. Truth be told, I did have inside information being that I had the privilege of working at this camp this past summer and seeing it all with my own two eyes. My kids can't wait to go back next summer, and I can't wait to send them! RID: 42552
Click to report rating    5/9/12   5     4     4     5     5   Having had Mah-Kee-Nac in our family for over 10 years, the arrival of Walter has brought back the values and spirit that we remember from the early 2000's...there have been a lot of improvements in the facility, great returning key staff and a return to fun and instruction in balance...you can't go wrong with sending your boy to Camp Mah-Kee-Nac RID: 41002

11/20/11   5     5     5     5     5   MKN is on its way back!! We were apprehensive about sending our son there in 2011 based on everything we'd heard about Mah-Kee-Nac; and boy we are so glad that we went with our gut and sent him there. He has an incredible summer, and is already counting the days until he gets to go back to MKN! RID: 37315

10/10/11   5     4     5     5     5   My sons have attended Camp MKN for five years. The last two years it was a struggle to get them to go. I would have to coax them into going. What a difference one year can make! Walter has not only won over my acceptance about the difference he was going to make, but he has won over the children as well. This past summer was amazing. Walter has kept his word on every promise he made coming into this past camping season. You have truly made summer camp a great experience for my sons once again! RID: 37044

1/19/11   5     4     5     5     5   I can guarantee you that the new director, Walter Synalovski, will help bring Camp Mah-Kee-Nac into a total renaissance. When i met with him recently, I saw the trust in his eyes, I knew that whatever he was saying or commenting on was true, whether I liked it or not. He will bring this camp back to where it was during my first 3 years, a traditional and loving camp for all sorts of children, athletic to non-athletic. Camp will once again be seven weeks after a disgraceful change to a two session six week camp. Walter's most common saying when I met with him, "I will ALWAYS be straight up with you." Keyword, always. In past years, many age groups had tension and bad relationships with the old directors. These old directors had no intention of dealing with not only the campers, but the counselors, key staff, and even the parents as well. I believe and can guarantee that Walter Synalovski can pull this camp out of the dark ages, and send it back to glory, where it truly once was. RID: 34884
Click to report rating    11/17/10   3     2     2     3     2   my son attended the full summer first time away at sleep away camp. directors lynn and bunkie although nice have left! yahoo! my son never interacted with competitive sports with other camps as promised. never any breaks and treated 9 yr olds like babies for bed time. lice in the bunk from contact with the sister camp was a disaster. bunkie and lynn the directors took poor care of the problem! my son lost valuable camp time due to poor decisions made by them. if you have lice shut down the bunk and move everyone. they just treated the child with the lice fro contact with danbee and it traveled throughout the bunk. danbee is not checked for lice before boys attend! girls hair is dirty! omg!!! new diector now but i will not be going back!  4/21/10   5     4     5     5     5   Great camp with an awesome location right in the heart of the Berkshires. Geared more toward those campers who are in it purely for the sports. Great international staff. RID: 32623
Click to report rating    8/11/09   5     1     5     4     1   great camp...but the directors are just puppets and the owners tell them what to do...and they do it. The facilities need improvement immediatley, but otherwise the program is great. For a small 6 week 2 session camp...it is highly expensive. RID: 30693
Click to report rating    7/26/09   5     4     5     5     5   Are competing camps writing the reviews below? We just picked our son up from mini-camp and he can't wait for next year. The 2 things we like best are the staff (responsive and caring) and the program (not only sports but great arts and boating). We choose the camp for the session lengths so that is a plus. The size of the camp was also important to us, we didn't want the giant camps but we wanted enough for team sports. Our son is 8 and there were 40 or so boys his age in 5 bunks. We do agree that some facilities need improving but we expected that from an 80-something year old camp and the camp clearly makes improvements each year. The location and camp feel are both excellent. See the camp yourself... RID: 30540
Click to report rating    7/25/09   3     1     1     3     1   camp is second rate but owners don't want to admit it and instead price it like its a top tier camp. one dimensional--all sports and limited facilities. two session summer is too disruptive. i do not see how the camp will stay in business if it keeps losing campers as it has been. RID: 30539
Click to report rating    5/22/09   1     3     1     1     1   A very expensive camp that in the grand scheme of camps, is more like a resort for kids...pine paneled cabins with running water with enough electrical outlets to plug in every electronic convenience known to man...The staff is self-centered and are not there for the kids, they are there to party and hang out...The directors seem more interested in how much money they can make rather than making sure to provide a great summer camp experience for the kids...the camp is far more expensive than it is worth - you're paying for the facilities, not the program, the program is horrible unless you are training to be a professional athlete - the arts are ignored unless it's raining or too hot outside to run the sports programs...the art studio looks as if it will fall into the lake any moment while the other non sports buildings are either in a state of disrepair themselves or are an old portable classroom...Such a disappointment... RID: 29818
Click to report rating    9/29/08   4     3     3     4     3   Pluses: the kids are well mannered, cooperative, and nice to one another. There are a lot of staff who really care. The pool is nice, and there is good comeraderie. The director and top staff try very hard. They play a lot of intercamp and tournaments. You can do well there if you are not Mr. Athlete. Minuses: the camp is small, it has had trouble attracting kids, and enrollment is way down. The ownership group doesn't think much of this camp, and the decision to offer partial summers was really poor. It is now half summer camp and that stinks. Too many coming in and out during the summer makes it lose its campy feel. RID: 26793
Click to report rating    9/27/08   3     3     1     1     2   This camp is horrible for children, unless they are training to be pro-athletes. The arts are significantly down-played and used as a last resort for injured campers. The directors seem to care more about how much money the camp is earning rather than how much a camper is earning from being there. Some of the staff are great, however they seem to be more interested in their own lives rather than the kids. RID: 26761
Click to report rating    9/12/08   4     2     3     4     3   this camp was only good because of how great the kids are. otherwise the facilities were not as good as people may think. RID: 26491

You wont regret this i promise! RID: 23730
5/22/08   1     1     1     1     1   Good dumping ground for Jewish kids whose parents want to go to Europe during the summer. If getting tossed into a freezing lake at 8:30 AM by a guy named Simon is your idea of fun, sign up right here. The humiliation of non-athletic kids is first-rate and the trauma and terror of daily camp life will provide not only you, but your psychiatrist, with a lifetime of memories. Pray you get sick and get to spend most of the summer in the infirmary. Thank your parents in advance for sending you because afterwards you'll never speak to them again. Camp Mah-Kee-Nac - you'll never forget it. RID: 23329
