Click to report rating    1/18/14   1     2     1     3     3   I have NEVER seen a BSA camp run by such an overbearing, obnoxious group of youth leaders. The setting is wonderful, but I would never recommend this camp as long as it continues to be run in such a poor manner(my opinion). For a group of youth leaders who are in charge of what should be the best part of a child's summer, I believe the young men completely fail to understand how to talk to both scouts and parents. I cannot stress enough how poor the leaders at this camp performed. If you are in a position to make a choice on where your troop goes to camp, I would urge you to look elsewhere. RID: 46601
Click to report rating    8/6/12   2     3     4     3     2   1/2 the staff was outstanding. The other half were among the most obnoxious, elitest young men I have ever met. The dining hall is so small the campers have to take turns eating in their camps. The breakfast are good. Lunch was poor and dinner was worse. Medic was never in his house. Program is OK to good. Most other camps allow a fair amount of "free time" for scouts to "have fun" Not here. The program pushes too hard for younger scouts. As I said above, soe of the staff were great others were so difficult that I would NEVER recommend this camp to anyone. If you are looking for a good ocean side camp go to the Portland Oregon Council's Camp Meriwether. Facilities are much nicer and the staff cares. One last note. I was embarassd for the staff at how bad they treat their "Staff in training" They badmouth them infornt of guest. The staff is constantly rude to them. Worst stff members #1 head of rifle range # Head of dining hall. Good note campsites were outstanding. RID: 42237
Click to report rating    3/24/10   5     5     5     5     5   Bar none the best camp on the West Coast, if not the BSA council camping program. I've been to 9 different summer camps in my time and none of them have come close to performing on Camp Parsons' level. The staff were superb. Our 'Staff Guide' was excellent. He made us feel welcome and at home. Some of the facilities are a little old and lacking, but the incredible beach front more than made up for it. RID: 32466
Click to report rating    4/10/09   1     4     3     2     3   I have been to Parsons quite a few times with my troop. We always find a way to have fun, but that's just how my troop is and this is not through the activities provided by the staff and program. The staff tends to be elitist and rude, which certainly has bothered me since I have worked at Camp Shepherd and we are not mean toward staffers from other camps. Although I do admit I do think they have one of the best beach front's facility wise around. Its an alright camp over all, there are of course exceptions with the staff, so I'm not saying they're all bad. RID: 29470
Click to report rating    2/20/09   5     5     5     5     5   One of the best camps in the nation! The staff is well trained and troop advancement during the week reached a new high with no "gift" or merit badge machines. RID: 29068
Click to report rating    1/2/09   1     3     3     1     3   This camp did not live up to the hype. Staff were rude and elitist. We did not see our host all week, and the boys in my unit who wore their staff shirts from our council camps were picked on and made to feel awful for being proud of where they have worked. The programs offered were standard and not anything I haven't seen at my own council camps. Some facilities were nice, while others were not. This is common at camps. The cost was average. Overall, the time would have been much better if the staff were more profesional and kind. RID: 28269
Click to report rating    8/7/08   5     5     5     5     5   Awesome location! Best staff in all of the BSA. Program is second to none! RID: 25494
Click to report rating    10/29/06   5     5     5     5     5   Affordable, fun, the most perfect location of any camp I have ever seen. The best camp in the world! There is no better place than Parsons... RID: 4442
