Click to report rating    11/10/22   1     1     1     1     1   I would listen to the negative reviews. The camp looks great but it is not safe or trustworthy. There is a bunch of things, illegal things, that are being hidden from campers and families. For the staff, look elsewhere. For campers/parents, find a safer camp RID: 53631
Click to report rating    4/24/22   1     2     2     1     1   Sadly as an over 10 year veteran of Watitoh I can no longer recommend this camp to anyone. As one of the director, he leads with a "my way or the highway" attitude towards his staff and veteran families. While both are consistently hiding things from not only prospective parents but current parents of campers. RID: 53547
Click to report rating    1/11/19   4     3     5     3     4   Watitoh is situated in a beautiful area of the Berkshires, overlooking a lake. It is a ‘classic’ camp setting, and feels like home. Kids go here every summer from elementary through high school, and they really do love it. A few years back, the camp came under new ownership, and things changed drastically. The new owners do not allow much of any autonomy, regardless of staff position, and have no issues disregarding requests and sneering at raised questions brought on by staff. There is a lack of trust and hardly ever a “thank you” after a task is completed. Room/board, meals, and travel costs are covered, but pay is a very small sum and not worth it in the long run. As a parent, sending your child here is a completely safe decision. As a potential staff member, look elsewhere. RID: 52415

Click to report rating    11/21/17   4     5     4     4     4   The camp is really pretty and the directors are super nice. But there are electronics like iTouches and the kids are really really cliquey and there's a lot of bullying. One girl can ruin everything and no one helps. And you cant escape because you are with your whole bunk all day long except for one period so you cant avoid it. Counselors don't do much to help make everyone include everyone else either. The food is okay and evening activities are really fun. I just thought I would make more friends here. I am not sure why I havent and no one seems to think it is a problem at all. I have lots of friends at school but not here. RID: 51494

7/1/17   5     5     5     5     4   I am very excited to have found this camp for my child, who is a first time camper and is loving it. I attended overnight camp as a child and was looking for a camp that offered a family like atmosphere and also had a wide variety of activities. The lake is gorgeous, unlike many camps that have fake beach fronts. The food is great, and the directors are warm and friendly. I highly suggest looking at this camp if you are looking for a picturesque setting and camp spirit. The bunks are simple yet in good shape, and the other buildings have character. There is a strict no outside food policy, and no electronics. The evening activities are varied and seem very spirited. The camp posts pictures once per day and you can call your child periodically if you would like to. I love that the out of camp trips are limited - the point of being at camp is to BE at camp. It is nice that there is a co-ed aspect so that you can send siblings. It has a Jewish population but not religious. RID: 50909
Click to report rating    4/12/17   5     5     5     5     5   Watitoh is an amazing place. This will be my third year at camp, and my best friends are there. The friends you will make there will last a lifetime. Most of the bunks are re-done and the rest are almost there. The staff are amazing with kids and really know what they are doing. In activities, the instructors are great at what they do. Counselors are so kind and caring. The directors are so warm and down to earth. The facilities are very nice. The camp is very small and everyone knows everyone. Camp is an amazing place, and I highly recommend it! RID: 50623

4/26/14   3     3     3     5     4   I have to say I have very mixed feelings on my experience. However I was a staff member, not a camper. However I was a camper at a few camps in this area when younger. The berkshires are beautiful! The camp is great if you prefer a smaller, more intimate everyone knows you setting. You get more attention by the counselors and that is nice.. The lake is very nice.. However the camp Director Billy was not friendly in my opinion. He seems very controlling and into himself. Strict. To me a summer camp should be a fun, friendly place where everyone gets along. I also didnt like the Head of the Boys Camp Scott. Also very cocky, arrogant attitude, again maybe because I was the newcomer. Maybe because I was a newcomer at the camp, he was not friendly at all and the counselors seemed to all know each other as they were prior campers. That kinda made me feel like an outsider. There isnt much to do outside the camp ground but thats ok, because the summer camp experience is in the camp itself. RID: 47241

3/16/14   5     5     5     5     5   Honestly.... camp watitoh is an amazing place to be for the summer. I wouldnt wanna spend my summer days anywhere else but here. The stafff is excellent. They are always willing to help, and make everyone feel like they are at home, which is of course there job.... The facilities are great! The camp is not too big, not too cramped, just perfect! Which is great because you get to know everyone with the camp being somewhat small. The activities are so much fun! Ranging from dry land activities, to the lake for activities, evening activities, sporting events, and even an elective of your choice (hobby). The personal attention is marvelous. Because the camp and cabins itself are small, everyone gets the attention wanted when needed. The monetary value is not so bad for a 7 week camp. Most camps cost way more. Take all of this advice from a 14 year old camper who is coming back for their 6th year in a row this year! All because they love it so much! 104 days till i'm back home!! Cant wait! RID: 47045
Click to report rating    8/6/13   5     5     5     5     5   As a season camper, for several years, I went from becoming extraordinarily homesick to extraordinarily inspired to become the best I could be at individual and team sports, song writing, equestrian, nature, ceramics and of all things we were challenged by, our bunk developed a passion for "clean up and inspection" because we won a trip to Friendly's Ice Cream Parlor (8 weeks of the cleanest cabin ever!). You'll find that ColorWar is the most amazing and memorable experience of your life: that is the Closing Cermonies (original song competitions) rival and even surpass the best of Broadway's longest running musicals. When I return home in the fall, I discovered my new swimming skills surpassed that of my instructors (Red Cross/Life Saving) and that of course. Sailfish, trips to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Becket Gorge overnight trips, Friday night dinners, the Socials. tennis, hiking, nature .....engage your spirit for a life time. The values & friends last a life time! RID: 45542
Click to report rating    7/3/13   5     5     5     5     5   This is a wonderful camp. Our daughter was quite homesick last year and the Director, the counselors, the kids, all made her feel comfortable, safe and at home. I was able to call her when she needed and she eventually felt that this was her summer home. She is back this year and couldn't be happier. I also wish there was a little less sweets/sodas allowed at the camp, but that is such a small detail when the owners are caring, smart and fun, the facility is good with an amazingly beautiful lakefront and there are activities to suit all. Wonderful wonderful camp. RID: 44994
Click to report rating    5/13/13   5     5     5     5     5   i have no joke ever found a place better than watitoh!! you will never experience anything better. even when your homesick, there is something that will ALWAYS cheer you up!! i really dont know why everyone says that this is not a good camp when most of them have not even been there before!!! i <3 this camp with all my heart<3<3<3<3 44 daysss<3<3 RID: 44473
Click to report rating    3/23/13   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is AMAZING!!! u would not find a better camp than this one... I swear you would not regret sending your kid here. Don't listen to the people when they talk about electronics. From the second I jumped of the bus my first year (2010) I felt at home, from my friends, my counselors, and other counselors. I was scared my first year that no one would like me... No one knew me. But I was 100% wrong. Everyone makes you feel at home. And even if you are homesick everyone makes you feel better. Counselors and campers. No one in my bunk and I have ever felt excluded or homesick cause there is so much to do that takes ur mind off of everything. The property the owners own is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! the lake is not just gorgeous it is also so funn to go in!!! Take this advice from someone who goes to this camp for four years now!!! I truly love this place... It's MY HOME!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!<3333 OPENING DAY IS SOO SOONNNN!!!! 96 DAYSSSS!!!<3333333333 RID: 44057
Click to report rating    1/30/13   5     3     2     3     2   Not sure why anyone would claim this camp is not electric. Plenty of kids with electronic devices watching videos and playing on them. The camp also has a soda machine and sweets everywhere. I guess if you are a very indulgent parent and are cool with sweets and electronics than this camp is fine for you but a lot of parents are to keen on that stuff. Anyway, a tiny camp and not a bad place but hardly free of electronics and sweets all summer either. RID: 43542
Click to report rating    1/23/13   5     4     4     5     5   Having been a camper in the 60's & 70's, having set older children to other camps, sorry we didn't find Watitoh earlier as my youngest is now 13 and has spent 3 years at Watitoh. It is truly a 'real" camp, small, hands on, non-electronic. Values, ethics, responsibilities and fun. Many camps are independent, free time, explore your inner self, forget about it! let kids be kids, use time creatively, back to basics. A true find for kids to be themselves. RID: 43475

Click to report rating    2/27/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been a camper at Watitoh and going back this year (2012) will make it my 6th summer there. I have always felt welcomed by my bunkmates and everyone in the camp. I never really feel excluded or homesick because there is so much to do and so many other things to focus your mind on while you are at Watitoh. I have met my sisters at camp and we have been through so much together, in and out of camp. I don't regret coming to Watitoh one bit and would not change camps for the world. It is also on an absolutely beautiful property with a beautiful view from the lake. I honestly love this camp with all my heart and everything it has to offer. I just wish there were a few more people. Otherwise I would highly recommend you sending your child here. It is an experience that is life changing. Living the dream <3 RID: 40407

Click to report rating    11/11/10   5     5     5     5     5   I, a returning camper for 6 years (soon to be 7) could honestly say this place is literally heaven on earth. Watitoh is my second home and what i look forward to for the 10 months i am in school. It's the two best months of my year and i couldn't imagine life without the bonds and memories i've made forever. I strongly recommend this wonderful place to all ages because fitting in isn't a problem at all. "We've dreamed it, we've lived it, together here in the Berkshieres". RID: 34413
Click to report rating    3/19/10   5     5     5     5     5   People from Romaca and other camps may say their camp is the best, and maybe for some insane reason say Watitoh is a bad camp, but you have to experience it as a true camper to know what Watitoh is all about. It's a great coed camp where you make bff's. We have different evening activities every night from Date Night to Camp Sing. Watitoh has the friendliest people. My first year I was very nervous, and as soon as I walked into my bunk, my great counselors made me feel right at home. Along with the people who made me feel just as welcome, my best friends. It's amazing how much Camp Watitoh can change you as a person. I'm going for my third year next year, and I just can't believe I have to wait much longer. Watitoh will always be in my heart along with everyone else who goes there that sees how much potential Watitoh has as a camp and as a great community. It's such a warm environment, so I strongly think you should send your kids because I guarantee they'll absolutely love it! RID: 32406
Click to report rating    2/23/10   1     3     4     3     3   from a counselor's perspective this place is horrid. the rules are ridiculous and the head honchos are idiots. we, the college student counselors, had curfews + had to log in every night, even on our days off. on our days off, we still had to wake up at 7.30, go to breakfast then begin our day off, and be in by 12 midnight. most of the head honchos are cold and stiff. the counselors who've been there for several years are unwelcoming and unkind and make it a point to show they're superior. they have no problem criticizing you or excluding you from going out. on our nights off, the ONLY thing to do is go to the town half an hour away and go to a bar there. one week into the summer, billy the fascist scoutmaster decided he didn't want counselors using the camp van to go out, or hang out in the empty lot across the street, nor were we allowed to stay on camp grounds on our days/nights off. so, on our says off, we literally had nowhere to go, unless we knew someone with a car. it was hell RID: 32232

Click to report rating    1/27/09   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Watitoh, is truly our summer home. You would be happy to get off that bus on opening day (June 29th, 2009 this year) and live the summer moment with your friends. Watitoh has everything you want and need. The staff, facilities, activities, attention, and value is great. This camp has sentimental value, something we cannot lose and hold on for ever and ever. Your relationships will form. Don't be shy to go up to someone, they're welcoming with a warm heart. To be honest, I was nervous during the first few days, but I started to socialize with other people and now, we're better than Best Friends, we're sisters. You should think about sending your child to camp, they deserve to have a home like this. Every day, your heart runs out there, being who you want to be. Let the light shine on you, you'll get it and before you know it, you'll be the super star you wanted to be. Camp Watitoh - Livin' the Dream 2009! -Talky RID: 28745

If I didn't find this camp, I would be so upset. You won't regret sending any camper here. Watitoh is amazing. It is so relaxed and focused on the important camp life. I would be totally lost without Watitoh. I always dream of Watitoh, it so amazing and wonderful. The activities are so fun and the campus is beautiful! Watitoh is so awesome! I love it. You definitley should come. -Emily/Bora Bora/Bourlas RID: 27366

Click to report rating    10/1/08   5     4     5     5     5   Amazing camp. Been going there since I was 8 years old and never had a bad summer. The staff really cares about you and the campers and counselors form relationships that truly lasts many years. People are down to earth and welcoming. Watitoh is all about traditions. Color war is the biggest and greatest thing, though it only lasts three days. The experiences I had at camp have shaped me into the person I am today. It has done so many positive things for me and I can't praise it enough! Send your kids here it truly is an amazing place. RID: 26836
