Click to report rating    6/4/19   5     4     5     5     5   Buck's Rock is a very special place. They are truly accepting of all types of kids/people. The "shops" are beyond excellent, a place where artists can excel in their areas of interest, whether that means creating a large metal sculpture, performing dance, or glassblowing. The theater program is top rate; and it's a place that embraces its campers of all levels, so both the broadway-bound and the kid who just likes to act have a place to shine their brightest. I sent my teen daughter and she loved it. Spent her time in the "Clown Shop" (improv, standup), jewelry-making, batik shop, and drawing. In the evenings the kids go watch each other perform so it's like a permanent arts festival in the woods. My daughter, who is not a dancer, came home marveling about a dance performance she'd seen that was just incredible. Highly recommend. RID: 52655
Click to report rating    8/20/18   5     5     5     5     5   This place changed my life. And now I have sent both kids to this camp, one is laid-back, the other is intense and motivated and athletic, and they both were transformed. The best thing about this place is the lack of schedule, where the mix of creative grownups and kids--some who are trying to be the best of the best while others feel no need to compete with others--makes magic happen everywhere. My Facebook friends who went to Buck's Rock are my most interesting and engaging friends, and this place is so meaningful to every one of them. RID: 52202
Click to report rating    6/16/14   5     5     5     5     5   This camp changed my life and set me on my career path. A great place for artistically inclined teens, especially with varied interests. I wish I could continue to go as an adult! RID: 47408
Click to report rating    6/16/14   5     5     5     3     4   This is an extraordinary place for mature teens. The freedom, opportunities to learn from accomplished staff and unique spirit make for a transformative experience. I attended a day camp and three other conventional pseudo-native-Americanesq camps before arriving at Bucks Rock; it took me a while to get used to the opportunities that abound, but I did and eventually was hired as a counselor. You gotta see this camp to believe it. RID: 47404
Click to report rating    10/10/13   5     5     5     5     5   Truly the best camp in the world. Children come here to grow into aware, bright, and kind young adults with a positive vision for the future. RID: 46103
Click to report rating    3/12/13   5     5     5     5     5   The best summer camp in the world, and I've been around. The staff care like no other camp I've ever seen and have the talent and ability to match. It's fairly expensive but you get what you pay for, and provides transformative experiences for kids of all ages that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. I could not possibly rate this camp higher, and all those that have experienced a summer there share sometimes special. If you have the opportunity - GO there, or send your kids. Having had the experience of being both a camper and a staff member, you won't regret it. RID: 43965

Click to report rating    8/6/12   5     5     5     5     4   Wonderful camp for kids that are motivated to create and learn. Low pressure and a respite from the school year. RID: 42249
Click to report rating    12/16/11   5     5     5     5     5   Best camp ever. There's no camp like it, and I'm sure that some of the kids wouldn't be alive without it. It uped my self-esteem, and I've met all my best friends there. RID: 37515
Click to report rating    9/3/11   5     5     5     5     5   I loved Bucks Rock so much! Expected to hate it though. Yes, it is expensive but worth every penny. It is a life changing place and is great for anyone with any intrest in the arts. RID: 36884
Click to report rating    8/23/11   5     4     5     5     4   My son had an amazing experience in his first (but definitely not last) summer at Buck's Rock. It's a place unlike any other. Two things set it apart. First, the range of activities: where else can a kid go from glassblowing to sax practice to a stand-up comedy workshop in a single day? No camper could ever be bored here, provided s/he has sufficient interest in the visual or performing arts. (Amazing talent is welcome but not necessary.) The 2nd thing unique about BR is its unstructured environment, based on the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Students make their own choices, set their own goals, and create their own schedules. It's not the right fit for everyone; some kids or parents may not be comfortable with such an unregimented day, and yes, it's possible to take advantage of the freedom. But for the right kind of kid, it's an unbelievable growth experience. I've really never seen my son happier. RID: 36811

3/16/11   5     4     5     5     4   I was a camper, my son is a 3rd year camper, my brother was a camper back in the 60's. This is a camp for the Arts, Performing and Visual. It promotes finding your voice in a liberal, free, fun, non-competitive environment. It is beautiful, has some sports (pool, softball, yoga...), a small farm, and a great town nearby. There are lots of field trips (usually with your interest groups, like Dance or Sculpture). It is only for the self-motivated and curious kids, they aren't going to tell you what to do, they are just going to help you do it. RID: 35362

Click to report rating    10/3/10   5     5     5     5     5   For people who love and appreciate the beauty of art, this is totally your place. YOU decide what to do, YOU decide what you want to make in each shop. This is a perfect place to discover your new talents. Staffs are very encouraging and the campers are very friendly. Buck's Rock has such a great environment that makes you want to come back for more. This camp is expensive but the memories are priceless! RID: 34176
9/1/10   1     4     4     1     2   Good camp for confident, independent, well behaved kids - mostly girls camp. Not recommended for boys who may enjoy sports, since this is artistic camp. They don't watch the kids, and my son was fooling around with dozens of girls, up all night. Very liberal so if you mind exposing your kids to open homosexuality/lesbianism, cross dressing, this is not the camp for you. RID: 33944
Click to report rating    4/14/10   5     5     5     5     5   Buck's Rock is a place like no other. The staff are incredible and the philosophy of the camp is such that kids really can discover more about themselves thru their artistic endeavors. The facilities are second to none. In each area the studios are at a college level. Kids get an opportunity to work with professional staff who REALLY know what they are doing. The performing arts are also the real deal. I was amazed at how well produced all the productions were. You also don't have to be a super talented kid to do well they. I have been to a few camps and honestly this place really gets kids. I have been there for many summers and hope to return for many more. I LOVE BUCKS ROCK. RID: 32592
Click to report rating    9/27/08   5     3     5     5     5   Our daughter had a wonderful experience in the junior camper program at Bucks Rock - it is a highly creative, nurturing community and the camp directors seem very much on the ball. RID: 26748

Click to report rating    8/2/07   5     5     5     5     5   Bucks Rock 07 was the most amazing summer of my life! GHD i love everyone! Everyone there was so nice. The only problem was that I am sooooooooooo into soccer and bball and there were no sports! But it is my home away from home. Stafff and facilities were amazing! they had workshops and plays. I LOVE BUCKS ROCK RID: 13515
Click to report rating    10/28/06   5     5     5     5     4   The only bad thing I have to say is that you have to pay for your materials. I loved every minute of it though, and the staff was wonderful. RID: 4376
Click to report rating    10/21/06   5     5     5     5     5   I had great times at Bucks Rock and can't imagine a kid who wouldn't. As both of the other reviews have stated, if you are looking for a sports camp, this is probably the last place you should go. All of the counselors will help you with any problem but won't force you to. I spent most of my time there sitting on the grass doing nothing and loved it! But i also took advantage of the atrs facilities and was in plays and the clown show (a sketch comedy/improv show). I made jewlery, blew glass, worked with wood, welded metal together, made a bronze cast of my hand, painted on canvas, made books, "silkscreened" shirts and put anything i wanted on them, made movies with the best equipment and software available and was in some really well done shows. Can you find a better camp experience? I doubt it. RID: 4193
Click to report rating    8/19/06   5     5     5     5     5   Its like college for little kids. You don't have to wake up but if you do, you can do whatever you want. No sports, but where else can you try glassblowing. I'm an all-american athlete but that summer was better than any sports camp I've been to. RID: 2193
Click to report rating    6/24/06   5     5     5     5     5   This is not a sports camp as it states above. It is an arts camp and excels in that regard. There are not many summer caps that allow kids to try glass blowing, arc welding, ceramic and clay work, to create anything their little minds can imagine. It has no structure so the kids are free to explore any artistic endeavour they choose. The music and drama departments especially are excellent here, and a number of notable Hollywood Stars send their children to this camp anonymously for that very reason. I attended as a camper and later on worked in the music department and can guarantee you wont find a better or more unique place to send your child to for the summer. He or she will learn more at bucks rock in one summer than in 6 summers at a normal summer camp. They will also develop friendships that last a life time, as I have. RID: 1099
