This was my very first sleep away camp and my experience is one that i never want to remember. I only spent two weeks at camp and that was more than enough. There wasn't a day that i wouldn't be crying. All of the girls in my bunk were so mean to me, the bunk was disgusting, not to mention that we had to shower in a out house where we had to wait outside with nothing but a towel. I was so overwhelmed and not in a good way everything was so unorganized. I didn't get to do half of the activities and there wasn't even that many. There was a day which was boys against girls where the boys would win ALL of the sports events and the girls would win the arts and crafts and cheer which made me feel like I wasn't good enough to be on a sports team. None of the staff cared if it was raining we would still be forced to do our out door activities. At the end of the summer I went home with half of my stuff because the girls in my bunk tried to play it off as if it were theirs.

I have been attending camp laurelwood ever since I was in g-1. This is going to be my seventh year, becoming a super senior in SSGR! I am 13 and I have amazing friends there that will last a lifetime. We all come from different places, but our bonds are super close. I know, I have to admit the camp isn't in it's best condition, but the faculty members have been working so hard to restore it. "Ned is the best hard worker!" I realize some of you are saying you had horrible experiences with friends and cliques, but that's because we've know each other for almost 7 summers and someone just might not fit in. Although I already have my best friends at the camp, each year I try to make friends with the new girls who come. I have unbreakable bonds with my counselors too because they know how we feel as being former campers. I totally recommend this camp: the summers fly by quick because we're having fun. #CL #Big-O #Maccabiah #hogwarts #lol

My daughter went to Camp Laurelwood last summer for 2 weeks. Overall she had a good experience but did not want to go back. The activities were good and the counselors were nice overall. What really bothered me as a parent was their censorship of the bunknote system-when kids' notes get emailed directly to parents so no waiting for letters by mail. Interestingly enough I have received only positive notes and none of those where she was writing about missing home among other things. They did find those notes later in the office when we were picking her up and after she told me that she wrote 6 or 7 notes but we only received 3. The director insisted that all notes were emailed to us so I thought maybe just a bad coinsidence. However, my friend's daughter is at Laurelwood this summer and the same thing is happening to her. Clearly no longer a coinsidence. As a parent I'd like to know my child's feelings while away from home so I can help her deal with them rather than just ignoring them.

My child went here last summer for the day program. Camp Laurelwood offers numerous activities, however, my child did not get the opportunity to do four activities that were important to her as the schedule had been modified. She was also in a group with children in grades K-2 and would have preferred to just be with her own age or grade group (that was not offered for the day camp). The reason we sent her to this camp is that it offered activities that she couldn't get elsewhere near us and she would get the Jewish experience. If she had received those activities while there, she may have wanted to go back. I might try to send her again much later this summer. I think the camp itself is definitely worth a try. Every child is different and their experience will be different. This is a good camp with good values and is has a lot of positive attributes.

Our children attended the day camp and we have NEVER had a worse experience. The staff was disorganized and incompetent from beginning to mid-way through the first week when we pulled our children. It was one bad experience after another, ranging from repeatedly misplaced registration forms and miscommunications about pick-up to the blistering sunburn my son sustained because they failed to use the sunscreen I provided. He couldn't wear a shirt for 2 days. Think twice about attending this camp and then register elsewhere.

I have been going there for 7 years as a camper and I love it. I've made my closest friends there. This small Jewish camp that I first knew is growing into a larger camp and is just getting better and better. I love going there and seeing my friends and old councelors that I love. This camp has become my 2nd home over the years.

I've been a camper at Laurelwood since i was 9, so this summer will be my 7th year and I will be in bonim. Camp Laurelwood, to me, is probably the greatest place to be. Not everyone may feel that way, but Laurelwood has truly become my summer home. If I could I would live there all year :). The staff is incredible; they always work there hardest to make sure the campers have the best summer possible. I know that the councelors, nurses, maitenance, and other staff truly care about me, the campers, and the camp in general. Plus, the camp has recently had a lot of work done, and it is just so nice now. I love camp laurelwood. I know its not for everyone, but I feel like sleepaway camp is a very important experience for everyone. I have met sooooo many new people that have turned out to be the best friends I've ever had. :))))

My two children have been going to this camp for many years now. It is incredible to see the amount of money and time and energy which has been put into updating the facility. My children have made friends that they will have forever. I strongly would be comfortable recommending this camp to any one who wants a recomendation.

I went to this camp for 1 week and considering that it was my first time going to sleepaway camp I had an okay time. The food and cabins could have been nicer but I guess thats the point of camp. The people were really nice and accepted me right into their family. I had fun but there is so much else that there is to have a good camp.

This camp was pretty great. The directors were very nice, but some counselors were better than others. Food and facilities were not so great, but that is camp. Overall, this is a nice camp with ni people.

I am going there and i am very exited, they fixed up the whole camp(i went to check out the camp)! During my experience, my councilors have always ignored me, but i feel very differently about this camp! But i think it's good for you to bring a friend with you to camp, just incase, because there are many cliques!

I went to Laurelwood for 2 summers, and they were the worst of my life. I had two awful counselors one summer who had never been to the camp before. They acted like they knew every thing about the camp, when they really no next to nothing. They were awful all of my cabin, and I really had no fun at all. There were 16 girls in my cabin, which is way to many, and we ranged from ages 7-11. That is insanity. Also, the facilities were crap, and the activities weren't fun at all. To top all that I had were ones i already knew. My 2 summers i spend at Laurelwood, were terrible, and my best friend who had gone with me agreed. Since then, we've found a different camp, which is the most amazing place ever. If you're looking for a good camp. Chimney Corners Camp is the place to go. (If you're a girl. Camp Becket's the boys camp.) There I've had the 3 best summers of my life, and I plan on going back years to come. If you've got any sense, you'll agree, Laurelwood isn't the camp to choose.

This is based on experience from four years ago - I have heard that the facilities have improved - this was the absolute worst summer experience I have ever had!! All the kids in the bunk knew each other going back several years and no one was interested in getting to know the new kid (ME!) The bunk was beyond rustic - it was filthy and smelly - my parents later told me that they really had second thoughts about leaving me there. It was only for 2 weeks (I think) otherwise I would have been out of there sooner. Since then I have been to two other summer camps and that is when I really found out how bad this place was, by comparison.

This was my child’s first sleep away experience and he was miserable! We took him home after only a few days. The place was truly disgusting. I have never seen filthier facilities. The bunks were overcrowded. The counselors were overwhelmed. Afterwards, we sent him to another camp – the difference was astonishing: involved, caring and supportative counselors, clean, spacious cabins, etc. etc. The complete opposite of Laurelwood. Laurelwood is very “affordable” but basically you get what you pay for.

Camp is about the experiance and the enviroment...the facilities at laurelwood may not be high class but they make u feel comfortable and like ur part of history because families have been coming to CL for so long. THe counslers genualy care about each kid and make a special effort to help those one's who seem to have trouble fitting in. Camp Laurelwood maybe a decade ago was a place were kids were left otu and hurt and it was hard to fit in but now a days with most counclers being past campers the community is as strong as ever and I always have the best time of my life counting down the days till camp every year. Now as a counsler I lvoe it even more because I get to see the behind the scens of camp and how counslers realyl do go out of their way to help each and every one of their campers. help them to enjoy their activities and offer a hand whenever its needed. I love camp laurelwood it truly is my home and no other camp has a better community or home like feeling LOVE IT!!

I seriously hate this camp soooooo much. I made absolutly no friends, and I lost the friend that I had come with becasue of this camp. the counselers were mean and uncaring. The kids are nasty, rude. Unless you want to be attacked by wasps and horse flies, then dont go to the pool. Yes, there are many fo you who completely disagree with what I am saying, but that is because you are one of those kids who are nasty and cliquey. By saying that you "have no idea what the people who had bad experisnces are talking about" you are proving my point. You dont know because you didnt care to make sure that we had a good time just like you. Please think twice before going to this camp!

I LOVE LAURELWOOD! I've been going for 8 years, and have had the most amazing summers of my life. I know I can speak for many people in saying, we would not be who we are without Laurelwood. We've made our best friends there, we've shaped ourselves, we've grown to know and love the jewish culture, the importance of togetherness, and the Laurelwood tradition. We've learned to deal and cope with real life conflicts and experiences. We don't have the greatest facilities, but if camp was nice the whole campy experience would be lost. Not everything about it if perfect, but dealing with imperfections and learned to love the idea overall is a great lesson learned at Laurelwood. It's in all of our hearts forever. It's the memories, the history, the traditions, and the possibilites of Laurelwood that make it the greatest camp in the whole entire world!

You don't go for this camp for the activities and the facilities, which both are awful. You go for the campers and staff that are great, but that's about all that's good.
