My daughter attending this camp for the 1st time this summer, after having a very unpleasant experience at another camp prior to this. I cant say enough about the director Mitch, and the staff in general. Everyone is so personal and take all feedback seriously. The counselors are extremely nice and my daughter loved them. Everyone there does their best to accommodate and make the kids feel at home. The only small criticism I have is that visiting day was a bit of a mess, but I am sure next year they will do a better job since they do take feedback very seriously.

My children have been at Chateaugay for six years. The camp attracts truly nice children and families. When my oldest had a spell of classic middle school drama, her camp friends saw her through it. These are bonds she could have for many years to come. And my youngest is finding similar amazing friendships. Mitch must be one of (if not the) most responsive camp directors I have come across. My children come home better tennis players, rock climbers, sailors and baseball players each year. I am thrilled that they have found a summer experience that they cherish and will be able to look back on fondly for years after it ends.

I've read through some of these comments, just to see what people thought and I can tell you right now that all of the negative comments are seriously overexaggerated. I've been a camper at chateaugay for 8 years and recently completed my final summer as a camper. It's impossible to put all my feelings in the world but the one thing that I can tell you is that this camp will change your life. Every staff member is there to make the campers happy. Sure, every once in a while you get one who's not as nice as the others, but they were hired for a reason and will be fired if they prove unworthy of this experience. This camp is the place to make incredibly strong friendships that will last a lifetime. I met my 2 best friends through chateaugay and I truly don't know where i'd be without them today. Hal really cares about keeping everyone happy, and mitch is an ex-camper. He knows what camp should be like and makes it his mission to create the perfect summer for every kid.

My son and daughter enjoyed eight fun-filled summers at Camp Chateaugay. Our family found the staff enthusiastic, responsive and well trained. Children choose their own activities whether they be artistic, athletic, creative or expressive - our kids enjoyed the impressive waterfront the most. The owners/directors at Chateaugay are attentive to details: allergies, medical care, appropriate staffing. We always felt our kids were safe and cared for here, which is of course huge for parental peace of mind. The biggest compliment from our kids is the wistfulness they feel when Spring rolls around and they wish they could go back for one more summer... Our hats are off to Chateaugay for creating these life-long memories!

My two daughters have attended Chateaugay for the past six summers. The camp has been wonderful. Both daughters have made so many wonderful friends and developed great self esteem. The activities are strong with wonderful instruction. The directors are both strong leaders and detail oriented. They are always there for both my daughters and myself as a parent. I would highly recommend this camp and trust the care given.

I always expect to have a fun time and take away incredible memories from a summer at Camp Chateaugay. For the years I have been coming here and it has always exceeded my expectations. Set in a gorgeous location and with the numerous activities and engaging staff, there is a place for everyone at camp. While expensive, the wide variety of activities makes it worth every cent. At each activity, you learn something new from the staff and your fellow campers. I couldn't ask for a better way to spend a summer.

My son had the best summer of his life at Camp Chateaugay. The staff and facilities are top notch and the atmosphere is extremely engaging and fun. The really special programs like glass blowing and zip line/rock climbing were some of my son's favourite activities.

I went to this camp for 7 years. It was fun, but a lot of the kids that went there weren't very nice people. It gets cliquey, there are a lot of spoiled children, but it is possible to find a niche. I found some genuinely nice people and made good friends, but if you have any difficulty making friends, this is not the camp for you.

For the past four summers I've been going to camp chateaugay for it's amazing activities but what really brings me back year after year are the incredible friendships i have made. One day at camp chateaugay and i promise you will feel at home. Everyone is so welcoming and the staff members always makes sure you are happy. If your ever home sick there are so many people there to comfort you and be your friend. Camp Chateaugay is the number one place to have the best summer.

This camp will always have a special place in my heart and is a honored family tradition. There is always one forigen counselor, mean counselor, and okay one. But hands done you will always make a connection with a friend or a staff member. The facilities are beautiful and custom charm to each cabin. The food is not great but its gotten better. I am a vegetarian and they acomadate you whatever diet you have. They never realize how many bullies are out there and should really get their hands on it. Some activities are thought out well and some aren't. The camp is a little pricy. And the owners do CARE ABOUT THE MONEY!! Hal is just rude to the children. And Dov is okay but money crazy. Overall the camp is beautiful you will make many long lasting friends and have supervised freedom and many oppertunnites you have never had before. Wilderness is a great and everybody looks forward to it. You will go on many cool trips whatever age you are. Please go here but be prepared for anything.

My Dad went here and he loved it, so I gave it a try. All of my counslours were pretty nice. There was one who only slept all day but had a good heart.Another who was strict and treated children like slaves. Nobody understood her. The kids are pretty nice. But the counslers should be aware that some people really bully the kids.Pretty edible food.Could be better. Hal and Dov are pretty fair and sweet. They care about a good time not the cash.Great activities.Carnival day is the best.Great swimming program! Overall I would give a 8 out of a 10.

The camp is a great place that is really centered on friendship and long lasting connections. I went here for 6 summers and absolutely loved it coming back every year. The activities were fun but maybe could use a few extra ones to keep campers excited and into the activities. Most of the counselors were fun and caring and wanted to include you as best as they could. They were approachable and easy to get along with and hang out with. The camp had a safe atmosphere and made sure they knew where the campers were at all times. Many traditions like the beginning indian camp fire made camp really close to my heart and created memories that I will always have with me.

I have gone to this camp for many years. It has always been a fun experience for me. Staff is always great, including the directors who try to be involved in camp life as much as they can. All the activities are a blast especially on the water front. Night activities real wrap up a day, making it great. Camp life begins to become a tradition for campers who come.

this camp is truly my life and i love everything about it. yes the directors want everyone to come back-of course, they want everyone to love it as much as they do and yes they do want money but no they are not as crazed about it as many directors at other camps. yes they fire staff throughout the summer...the same thing goes on at all sleepaway camps to ensure that campers are only surrounded by worthy, safe, excellent, and caring counselors...this is truly an amazinggg place to spend your summers and everyone should be so thankful to come back year after year and for all of the staff who love doing the same..i cannot wait until i can come back as a counselor myself

Staff: Amazing, attentive, friendly, spirited, caring, and hardworking. The staff donate their summers to make every campers summer amazing and as a four time returning camper, I couldn't be more grateful for all that they do for us. Staff 2012 were particularly stellar. Facilities: Cabins are very nice, other facilities are top notch, cleaned regularly and every expense is spared to ensure that the facilities are top of the line. Activities: Perfect blend of cabin activities and personal choices to create a schedule perfect for each individual camper. Each activity is run by a knowledgable staff member with the assistance of several caring counselors. Attention: Each camper is given the attention they personally require and request. Staff are attentive to all camper problems and other campers are always willing to help in any way possible. Monetary Value: The cost is steep but the experience of a lifetime makes it well worth it. Chateaugay is my home and I would recommend it to anyone

The staff didnt care about the kids they just did the bare minimum. staff were rude to the campers yet they seemed surprised when campers didn't respect them. some activities were well orginized and others were not. when it rained they just put campers in their cabin for the entire day (except for meals). the food was great. the facilities were well maintained. the directors of the camp did anything they could to make parents happy and get their money. visiting day is the biggest joke; the camp puts on a show. the waterfront staff is great but most of the staff that teach land sport don't even know the sport they are teaching very well. the kids there bully other kids and the counsulers don't do anything to stop it. the camp says they are a 'bully free zone' but i have seen so many kids want to leave because of how mean other kids are to them. unless you're okay with having your child in that kind of an environment, i wouldn't send your kids to camp chateaugay.

I went there for many years. Though I generally liked the camp, there was one thing that really bugged me. The directors were so set on getting every child to come back (so they can see the check) that they would fire counslers for no reason if a kid complained or get a kid in trouble for no reason of another, camper complained. Counslers also would get yelled at for not literally being slaves for te campers (getting them whatever they want when they ask). Kinda ridiculous. But if you ignore that it's a fun escape from normal life.

I love this camp so much!!! Wilderness 2010 will forever be with me and in my heart, camp and especially the last year summer which is wilderness is completely amazing, unforgettable, and INDESCRIBABLE, "from the inside looking out, you can't explain it, and from the outside looking in, you can't understand it." I have made so many amazing friendships heree and i also love most of the counselors I've had over the years who, along with my friends, and camp in general have made a lasting impact on me ... I can't believe that all of the younger campers leave for this summer at camp in less than a month and I won't be goingg for the first time in years I will miss it so muchh ...W010

Beautiful camp with excellent facilities. Good mix of "bunk" activities and "choice" activities. Not for the super competitive sports but if you want your child to try a variety of sports without the stress this a great place to be. Staff for the most part seem happy to be there and enjoy the kids - supervision of older campers may be a bit too relaxed. Overall what a summer camp experience should be.

I love Chateaugay but I don't think that they understand how bad the food is. Last year, the counselors for my cabin began to scold us, telling us we do not eat healthy enough, or enough at all! I realize that the camp charges a very low flat-fee, so the food can only be so good, but it really could be improved. I must say, they do not do a good job hiring counselors. My first year I had 3 counselors in my cabin; 1 was extremely nice and normal, another one took pregnancy pills infront of us, and another one would stip infront of us with the mere warning of "3...2...1...I'm stripping!" which did actually become funny. However, the same counselor always carried a stock of 3 condoms, making our cabin full of 12-year-olds suspicious... On a brighter note, I must say many of the activities are amazing. Last year I tried windsurfing and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would never say to not go to Chateaugay, but before you go you should definately try to meet some people who will be in you cabin!

This is a fabulous camp - a very special place because the owners/directors care about every child and do as much as they can to make sure the kids are happy and secure. There is a lot of personal attention. My child was terribly homesick and received a lot of attention. I highly recommend this camp. I was able to speak to the owner on the phone every day. There are many activities and the children can choose what they want to do. The kids are down to earth, for the most part. The last review must be from a counselor who was not up to the standards of this camp. My child is a very picky eater but loved the food at Chateaugay. I went to a stuffy camp in Maine as a child and wish I had gone to a camp like Chateaugay. It is relaxed but organized with fun activities every day. Also, there are a wide variety of sports but it is not competitve, so even a non-sports kid will enjoy sports.
