This camp was not as advertised. Lots of general camp activities but not the high end camp it claims to be. The good- friendships made, great group activities, decent food. The bad - facilities run down and haven’t been maintained in a long time, no communication with parents, rest time is actually nap time with no noise or lights allowed. If the kids make noise they risk punishment which is losing canteen (snack) or sitting out of evening activity. One child was singled out and lost canteen almost every day in my child’s cabin for no apparent reason.

To anybody who does not like this camp, me and my six brothers have gone to awosting for the past 13 years and we love this camp. The staff have improved over the years and learn from their mistakes. My brother would not stop smoking. This camp really turned him around! Please, do not trust these haters. Haters gonna hate!

Awosting is such a great summer camp. I cannot say enough about it and its sister camp, Camp Chinqueka. My son has attended camp here for the past 4 summers and is counting the days to his return this summer. The staff is terrific. Every year there are so many great counselors. We love the sense of independence he gets from spending 4 weeks at camp every summer and also the peace of mind we have knowing he is well cared for and safe. This is a great summer camp, and I guarantee if you send your son for 2 weeks, he'll ask for 4 weeks the following summer and 6 weeks the next!

I am a first time Camp Parent, I sent my 8 year old son to Awosting for 2 weeks, he ended up staying all eight weeks. He was happy, busy, well fed and well looked after. The counselors and directors looked after each camper as if they were their own. Yes he came back after eight weeks with bug bites, but he never stopped talking all the way home about all the activities he got to do, the other campers he got to meet from all over the globe and most of all he still didn't want to home and cried hysterically when it was time to drive out on the last day. I have already started saving up for next year, as he is insisting on 8 weeks again. What a fabulous gift the staff and directors gave us this summer, peace of mind, that my son was safe, happy and healthy. Job well done to each and everyone of you, see you in 2015.

My two sons have attended Awosting for 6 years. If you are seeking a "real" camp experience, this is it! A beautiful rustic campus on a clean, clear lake with every kind of activity for every kind of boy...rugged but comfortable accommodations and caring experienced staffers from around the world. It is owned by a family that has been in the camping business for decades. Their dedication and success at providing an experience that happy life-long memories are built on is second to none. If you are looking for posh, pass this one by. If you are looking for a place where your boys can begin the journey to manhood in a safe, supportive, exciting, fun environment, don't look anywhere else. p.s. -- the food and snacks are plentiful with plenty of healthy choices available along with other more indulgent choices. Good eating habits are encouraged and because there are so many opportunities and variations of exercise, your boys will come home fit and well fed. Everything is just wonderful!

Our son has been to Awosting the last 3 summers. His experience can best be summed up by him stating "I am home" as we drove down the camp road this summer. The staff are amazing - very well trained and attentive to the different needs of growing boys. The directors the boys busy from morning to dusk with the traditional camp stuff and a few very creative activities. The facilities are rustic, but the directors have recently been upgrading quite a bit and it really shows. Just a warm, friendly, fun environment. We have referred several families over the past few years and everyone has been very pleased with their experiences as well. Great addition this year with the soccer and waterskiing sessions - I wish my son could have attended both, but was only there for one of them. I highly recommend this camp.

My son went to Awosting for the last two summers and has loved every minute. It builds character, responsibility, and wonderful socialization skills. I wish my son had started many years ago. Kids are encouraged to go outside their comfort zones, close personal attention is given to each boy, the staff is abundant and caring, and activities are fun. It is very well-managed and I always felt confident that my son was in the best of hands. What more could a parent want? We dropped him off worried that we might have to go back and get him. Instead he asked for two extra weeks -both summers! It is an old fashioned kind of place, where healthy activities and friendships are emphasized. Sports are quite varied. The staff is terrific and incredibly creative and fun. They clearly care about the boys. A lovely lakeside setting, with many activities, from archery to rowing. My son never seemed the camp type, and now Awosting is what he looks forward to. Great place; highly recommend.

I have been going to camp awosting for most of my life. I love this camp so much and talk about it all the time that my friends at home get sick of it. My cabin mates have been in the same cabin as me since 2006 so they are some of the best friends that I have. I visit them throughout the year and I Skype with the a lot. I made friends from new York to England to Japan. The counselors are awesome and treat you very very well. The activities that awosting offers are fantastic. The new zipline that is being added next year will be awesome!! Sadly my time as a camper has come to an end. I have put in a cit application and fingers crossed it will be accepted. I don't know what I would do with my summer if I wasn't at camp. Everything about camp is amazing, from the people to the activities to the dances with chinqueka ;). I could go on and on about how amazing camp awosting is but why don't you send your kid there and let them tell you themselves.

I sent my two sons here this past summer for the first time and they had a great time! They mainly enjoyed the huge variety of activities, from waterskiing to go karts to drama to fencing to a ropes course... They seemed to do something new every day! I was worried about homesickness since it was their first time away from home, but the staff were great at keeping them busy and very happy! The admin were great too at keeping the lines of communication open the whole time my kids were there. My older son made some lifelong friends and really looked up to the staff as role models. I will be sending both kids again next summer for a longer session!

I was shocked at the facilities at Awosting. The cabins were extremely unsanitary, and the care given to the children was terrible. I would absolutely not return, and would definitely not recommend this camp to anyone!

Awosting is actually a fantastic place to send your son. The staff are from all over the world, typically England/New Zealand areas, so your child will get a taste of other cultures. The campers are from all over too-this past summer, there were boys from China, France, Spain, Portugal/Brazil, and Venezuela. Your son will make friends that will last a lifetime from all corners of the world. The facilities are great - 16 cabins, working plumbing and electricity in each. Plus, the place is HUGE. Staff are always on hand/on patrol/running activities so your child stays safe. Some of the activities; waterskiing, sailing, canoeing (WAR CANOE!), rowing, swimming, fishing, mountain biking, gokarts/minibikes, ceramics, arts and crafts, drama, music, fencing, woodshop, archery, golf, sports (all sorts of them!), photography, video, journalism, and a climbing wall+low ropes course. There's an average 1:5 ratio of counselors to campers, and though it may be a little expensive-it's worth it!

Overpriced and poorly maintained site. My son went and will NOT be returning. We are looking at a "Y" camp for next summer with the same activities and half the price.

This will be my nineth year at the sister camp to Awosting, which is called chinqueka. You can send your daughter there and your son to Awosting. Both camps are run by the same great family, called the Ebners. They have been running Awosting for 100+ years and always have kids coming back-like me-so they have to be doing something right. About two years ago they redid all of the cabins at both camps with fresh paint and carpets. You as a camper need to take care of the dust problem, so dont complain. Yes some counselors have thick accents but you come to understand them, unless youre a brat and defy everything anybody else says. Please do not go to the camps if you get homesick easily. Nobody ever really knows what to do with a homesick camper. Otherwise, food is great. Facilities have gotten better but may need some more clorox. Staff is great as they all are personally interviewed by the Admin(Ebners) who make great choices. So get up and send your son to Awosting. Like rly, rite now!

though there are many things to keep kids occupied and to make sure they have fun, the counselors aren't very responsible and the camp really has no idea what goes on wiht the kids. pretty disorginized, though a hell of a lot of fun
