Click to report rating    11/5/23   5     2     5     5     4   Ok I'm gonna start off by saying the staff were amazing, I cried the first night I got home because I missed my counselors so much ??. They were amazing people and cared for us so much (five months after camp my best friend received a letter in the mail from them wishing her happy birthday). I will never forget Jess and Aylessa. My cabin mates were great (for the most part). Sadly the lake was icky. The food was pretty good (I dream about the homemade cookies). I was quite homesick but that was with a horribly broken toe. All in all great experience! RID: 53914
Click to report rating    9/15/19   5     5     5     5     5   I will never have enough words for the amount of love I have for this place. Chinqueka is my favorite place on this earth. It is the only thing that gets me through the school year and I wouldnt be who I am today without it. The friends I have met there are now my best friends for life, and they are the kindest people I have ever met. The counselors are some of the best people and I bond with them so quickly. They become my older sisters and I miss them so much already.Saying goodbye to this place my last year was the hardest thing I have ever done. I keep in contact with all my camp friends and counselors throughout the year and I love them to death. Chinqueka is the best place on earth and I will always be grateful for the 4 years I got to spend here, hand in hand with my best friends. Chinqueka I love you forever.... 2016 to infinity. Click to report rating    10/29/18   5     5     5     5     5   I cannot say enough good things about Chinqueka. When people say that camp is "their summer home" I can't relate. Chinqueka isn't just my summer home, it is my real home. I look forward each year to the best summer of my life. Each year it is better and better. The girls here are the most incredible people you will ever meet. Within a few short days they are your best friends. Throughout your stay you develop such strong bonds with your counselors. They practically become your parents. There is no "popular" group at Chinqueka. You are friends with everyone. After each session I cry so hard because I'm leaving. I hate school so much and the only thing that gets me through the rigorous year is waiting for camp.I can't believe next year will be my fifth and final summer. RID: 52309
Click to report rating    7/2/18   5     5     5     5     5   My daughter has been going here for 3 years. The first 2 years were for 2 weeks. The 3rd year for 4 weeks. She absolutely loves it and has made friends near and far. The counselors have been great and fun, and Amanda, the director, is fabulous!! RID: 51945

3/17/17   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Chinqueka is my favorite place in the world! It has transformed me into the person I am today. My counselors taught me how to open up with my friends and take part in new actives I would have never had the chance to do in my hometown. I stay in touch with everyone in my cabin, as well as other cabins, all year round and I am always so excited to see them every summer! The food is so delicious, especially the strawberry soup!! The staff is flawless, everyone is so fun to be around and going to Camp Chinqueka is the best decision I've ever made! There are so many great traditions and Chinqueka will always be a special part of my heart. RID: 50544

1/21/15   5     5     5     5     5   Chinqueka is such a great summer camp. I cannot say enough about it and its brother camp, Camp Awosting. My daughter spent 6 summers here and has so many fond memories of camp. The staff is terrific. We loved the sense of independence she developed from spending 4 weeks at camp every summer and also the peace of mind we had knowing she was well cared for and safe. This is a great summer camp, and I guarantee if you send your daughter for 2 weeks, she'll ask for 4 weeks the following summer and 6 weeks the next! RID: 48314

5/2/14   4     2     4     2     2   This was years ago, so it's probably changed, but I had a horrible and very lonely experience at Camp Chinqueka. While I wasn't the main scape goat for teasing and covert whispering - that position was taken by another girl in the cabin - I definitely never fit in, and that fact felt apparent. I also remember whispers insinuating I was a lesbian in a cruel way. (I'm not, but that really, REALLY shouldn't matter.) I was very eager to take part in the activities, but it wasn't a very welcoming place for a slightly awkward preteen girl. I will say the staff was kind, and while they didn't do anything to change the situation, it is possible they hadn't seen it. I have fond memories of a couple of the activities, and that's about it. Click to report rating    6/30/13   5     3     5     5     4   I love camp Chinqueka and I attended until the last possible age. The showers are not in the bunks and the uphill walk can be a problem. They are in dreadful condition, usually with atleast 2 showers broken at once. The activities are amazing. They are so much fun and as you get older they get even better! Most of the counselors come from out of the country, which can be difficult in the beginning but is wonderful as the summer goes on. The food is not amazing and never nutritious. At canteen which is snack you are given candy and soda. Their is dessert after every meal and they breakfasts offer a main course and your choice of sugary cereal. I always feel a little heavier when I get home. The waterfront is beautiful, but their are no motor boats on the lake, so you have to travel to the boys camp by bus for any boat activity like water skiing. The cabins are old and like any camp, check for lice. I love camp but it has major issues to me. I will never regret my days at sunny camp. RID: 44939
Click to report rating    5/8/13   5     5     5     5     5   Went to Chinqueka as a kid and absolutely LOVED IT!!! I had the time of my life their and sent all 5 of my daughters there! Thumbs up for Chinqueka! on a scale from 1 to 10 I rate it an 11 RID: 44437
Click to report rating    2/5/13   5     5     5     5     5   So I am thinking about going to this camp but my friends go to a diffrent one. And I want to know some people. But I think, reading your reviews I may fit in pretty quickly. RID: 43589
Click to report rating    10/11/12   5     5     5     5     5   We were thrilled with this camp for our daughters. The staff was incredibly professional and handled every possible situation imaginable. The activities are endless. The cabins are very nice. And best of all our homesick daughters loved the camp so much they couldn't wait to go back the next year. Our girls have kept in touch with their new friends since the summer. Amazing friendships are born as well as esteem and independence. We were so impressed with this camp and staff. I wish I could go! No mistake..it is a summer family! RID: 42855
Click to report rating    9/7/12   5     5     5     5     4   so, I went to this camp for six summers. "summer family" sounds cheesy but it's just way too true. i started without knowing anyone. i've never met more amazing people in my life. i've made bestfriends to last a lifetime. i got to grow up with my bestfriends every summer. the couselors are so easy to connect with and are always in for good times, fun and laughter. the food is so amazing. you learn so many great things, like leadership, friendship, communication and how to have the best summer ever. even after my last year, i still visit and keep in touch with my cabin. and even my previous counselors. once you go to chinqueka you can always call them your summer family. i love everyone there, the traditions, the spirit, the lake, the food, the friends, awosting, the activities, tribal games, anything and everything. c-h-i-n-q-u-e-k-a rah!  4/21/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have gone to this camp for three summers(almost 4, sooo excited) and it is my absolute favorite part of the summer. I can only go for half of the summer because of tryouts, but I feel like the other campers and the staff are like my family. This camp is amazing, and without it my summers would be so boring. The councelers taught me how to shoot an arrow, swim correctly, and how to let go and have fun. I met some of my best friends here. Lake compounce is also a blast!!! My friends who go to other camps complain about mean girls in their cabin, but at Chinqueka every girl is nice. It is also amazing to meet people who you would never meet if you didn't go there. How else would I have friends in Spain, Dominican republic, Paris, and the uk? For the people who say it is too strict, are you in cabin 1? The younger cabins are stricter, but as you get older you get more freedom. I am almost out of space, but I cannot say how much I love this camp!!!! See ya next year!!!! RID: 40822

8/27/11   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Chinqueka is quite possibly the BEST thing that ever happened to me. Seriously. Summers used to be really boring for me, like, I would just sit around on the couch and do nothing. But last year I made the best decision EVER! And that was to come to Chinqueka. The girls in my cabin were so friendly and I absolutely ADORED my counselors. The only thing I regretted was only staying for 4 weeks. But then the next year I came for 8 weeks, all summer, because I loved it THAT MUCH! My second year was even better, with even better campers and even better counselors (which I didn't even know was possible!) I had so much fun and, because I was there for so long, was able to try ALL the activities camp had to offer. The time flew by, though, and before I knew it, I had to say goodbye. I wanted to stay forever, especially because I knew that this would be my last year as a camper. I thoroughly intend to come back as a CIT, though. Long story short, Chinqueka is amazing, Go there, k? RID: 36838

8/29/10   1     1     1     1     1   This camp is horrible. I went in 2009 for a month and I wish that i would have gone for only 2 weeks. The girls in my bunk were rude, and obnoxious. They all came from the same place and didnt include me in anything. The food here is terrible! Also, the activities here are so boring. During free time all you do is sit there and wait for like an hour. You dont get any freedom here. You have to go to bed sooo early like at 9 and have to do stupid activities in the evening. I wouldnt reccomend this camp at all for somebody for actually likes to have fun. And the councelors are all so mean! You dont get to talk during rest time, they yell at you for everything. DO NOT GO TO THIS CAMP. It is terrible and not worth spending your money for. RID: 33899

2/26/10   5     4     5     5     5   I went to Chinqueka for my first time this summer not knowing anyone. Within ten minuts I had met some friends that I will never forget. The counselors are amazing and DO pay attention to you. There are dogs on the camp but they are adorable and sweet, NOT dirty. The other campers are fantastic and from all over the world. The activities are amazing. I quickly learned that have to sign up fast to get on the blob (water trampoline). It was beyong words. I keep in touch with all of the girls in my bunk that I could get e-mail's from! I would not reccomend going to any other camp than Chinqueka. Chinqueka is my home away from home. I would recommend this camp to ANYONE! RID: 32251

10/18/09   3     5     4     5     5   chinqueka is a fun camp the activities are so fun the only things i didnt like about it was that that some staff members had serious problems and were really strict and some were soooo nice. we do such fun things like going to lake compunce having socials playing tribal games. and even though arapahos win a lot senecas are still the best RID: 31353
Click to report rating    8/13/09   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp with a passion. this summer was my 4th year. the food is amazing and because of the diversity of the people there it is really easy to find someone you can really connect to. the camp is really flexible and if something is really wrong you can talk to anyone and they will help to solve the problem. i try a lot of new things i wouldnt have had the chance to do at home at camp. i learned how to waterski there and then began to teach other kids how to do it as well. i really like the fact that in the morning you have activities chosen for you and then in the afternoon you can choose your own. this helps you to try new things. the staff are always really nice.i think they have the perfect amount of strictness and frriendship. the cabins are cabins but they are cleaned everyday and i hope to o back to this camp next year as a CIT.i come back after my sesion is over every year to see my friends and just to feel the love that is at this camp the second you get out of the car RID: 30722
Click to report rating    8/8/09   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is amazing! I just got home from my first summer there. The staff is so nice...achemm Sammy Sausage--my councelor<33 Activities are soo much fun! Tubing was the bomb even though it was so hard but it was a total life experience. I did not bring a friend and i didnt know anybody there but i ended up making friends from venezuela, mexico, spain, dominican republic and lots of best friends from the US and England. The socials were just amazingg with the guys. And do not get me started on water sports dayy! It was so much fun! No we didnt win war canoe and we were all sad...so WHAT! Atleast we had a blast. And btw chinqueka was so much better than awosting dont let them get u down. And tribal games and chears are so fun! You practicly learn and do funthings every single day! The food here is really awesome. You have so much to chose from!! I ended up making my very best friends here. This rlly is my summer family and hopefully will be yours. I will definitely come back next year! RID: 30667
Click to report rating    10/23/08   5     5     5     5     5   Okay so every person on here that said camp is bad pretty much lives in a hole. This past summer was my 7th year. I have three best friends, two of them living in the UK. Iencourage you strongly to go to camp. It is structured and every camper is friends with people older and younger than themselves. Please do not come if you have an attitude problem because that would make everybody elses lives horrible at Chinqueka when you can be doing so much more. It is structured and big and even though there are certain times for everything, you have soo much free time each day and you can do anything you want for 3 hours a day. I dont think you should bring a friend, because you will cling and you will not appreciate how amazing Chinqueka really is. You are definitely always busy. Camp Chinqueka is fantastic and you may even get a nickname, like me. Your loyal camper, Katie Camper RID: 27154
Click to report rating    10/21/08   5     4     5     5     5   I have been going to chinqueka for 8 years now...it is my home i dont know what i would do without it...the facilities are not the best but that teaches you lessons in life that make you more responsible and appreciative of what you have. the counsellors are amazing and the best part of camp. you can try anything you like and chinqueka forces you to have new experiances and try new things. i am most definately going to work there next summer and i cannot wait...i am counting down the days, like i do every summer...the director is great and very connected with the camp...its really like a family, you have your counsellors who are like motherly figures for the summer, camp mates who are your sister, and you even have grandma mary who will talk to you and take care of you....i love this camp with all my heart...i strongly recomend it. RID: 27135
Click to report rating    4/26/08   5     5     5     5     5   the last 2 ppl sound really dumb and probably didn't like camp cause they didn't try anything. yea, you may not like camp if you don't like cleaning up after yourself and having fun, but this is one of the best places ever. i had so much fun and i loved all the counselrs and ppl there. you should really come here!!! RID: 22681
Click to report rating    3/9/08   2     1     2     1     1   Chinqueka pretty much sucks. The website made it look really fun, and thats what i expected. I went with one of my friends, and I realized that was a really bad idea. Everyone in my cabin had done the same thing and brought their friends, so we were split up into little cliques and I never ended up talking to a bunch of people. It's a bad place to make new friends. And then there was waterfront!!! I HATED having that every morning. I went to this camp to chill and do whatever, but I could barely decide what I wanted to do. A lot of the time, the electives I wanted were filled up, too. Don't goto this camp. RID: 21096
Click to report rating    2/1/08   1     1     1     1     1   not fun, the counselors are really strict and one threw me out of the motor racing class because i made 1 mistake. i wouldnt recoment this to anyone because the counselors werent very welcoming. RID: 19713
Click to report rating    8/17/07   5     3     5     5     4   the staff is so caring and sweet most of them are college kids from other countries. The director of camp is very funny and can remember everyone's name. The food was out of this world, with an incredible salad bar. I couldnt believe this was "camp food" I felt as if i was on a cruise ship. The setting is beautiful on the lake and there were so many activities to keep all entertained. I really liked the socials with Awosting and DJ jeff. The only thing I would like to see is an improvement in the cabins, they r old and screens broken and doors loose, would like to see air cond and heaters as the weather is so varied there otherwise I really enjoyed my time here. RID: 14077
Click to report rating    8/3/07   3     1     3     2     2   I went to this camp and I might come back.I want to try different camps.I liked some of the staff because they were from all over the world but some had accents so thick it was hard to understand some of them ! I hated having waterfront everyday because I'm not quite the best swimmer...But you got to choose the activities you wanted which was quite cool. The cabins were pretty dirty and I couldn't fall asleep because I was sneezing my head off (allergic to dust)Umm the counslers in my cabin never talked to the girls who were giving me a hard time but I stood up to them. I guess it was an OKAY experience. BTW the food is awesome (I gained 5 pounds going there :( )I would reccomend it to anyone RID: 13557
Click to report rating    8/2/07   5     1     5     5     5   Camp Chinqueka was SOOOO much fun!!! You could pick different activities every day so you never got bored. All the counslers were nice too. All the water activities were really cool like water skiing and tubing. The only hing I didn't like about Chinqueka was the shower and clenliness. For the showers you had to like hold down a knob and it was really weird. The cabins were dirty and stuff. OMG the food was delicious though!!! The first morning there we were served cereal and eggs and stuff. I got full in a second! But then, when I thought we were about to leave, they brought out pancakes and waffles!!! Camp chinqueka is AWESOME RID: 13510
Click to report rating    5/22/07   5     5     5     5     5   camp chinqueka is my entire lifee <3 i absolutely loved it. for those who did not love it, you must be talking about a different camp because i have been going for four years now, and cannot imagine what my summer would be like without it. it is very homey & everyone feels welcome. i went alone my first year and came back with tons of friends and had a great time. the consulers and very friendly, and the evening activities, tribal games and socials are probably my favorite part. the activities are great too, because even though in the morning your cabin in assigned activities, it is fun because you get to try everything and you would be surprised how you can really like something that you didnt think you could. there is so much camp spirit and is generally just an amazing place to spend your summer. highly recommended for anyone RID: 11034
Click to report rating    4/22/07   5     5     5     5     5   I talk about it nonstop! I love it with a burning passion! it takes us away from all of our "rich" items and shows us what its like to be real campers!! i made so many friends and i am the sshiest girl on earth!! the food was delicous and it was great you can have as much as you want. the lake was absolutly beautiful, as well as the sand beach. the cabins were rustic, and were very cozy/homie.the activities were awesome and the free times and rest hours were wonderful because we all want to have our alone time with friends and do what we want! the socials were amazing! i loved seeing the boy's camp once a week! and the trips? oh wonderful! i still have inside jokes from tubing, camping, and more! i HIGHLY RECOMEND IT! thhe only people who hate it//dont like it do not know how to live! probably some rich snobs who are only used to the fine life. it was a great experience and i love it so much. if i can write this much about it and still can write more you know its good!! RID: 9960
Click to report rating    4/6/07   5     5     5     5     5   chinqueka was the best experience of my lifetiem and if you are looking for a camp for your kid most definiitly send them here becuase they will have the time of their life. everybody is so nice and it is just amazing. chinqueka is the best!!!! RID: 9474
Click to report rating    5/24/06   1     1     1     1     1   Going to this camp was one of the WORST summers of my life. The showers are basically outdoors and you have to manually operate them with rubber handles that get slippery when you get soap on your hands and then it's impossible to rinse off, the cabins are graffitied so badly that I don't even know what color the ceilings are, there is no ventalation besides broken screens in the cabins, and if you are allergic to dust you will never fall asleep. The counsellors are generally foreign and strict. The food is all fake frozen stuff, and the activities are minimal and they require you to do things that you don't want to. They have disgusting filthy dogs walking around camp, and free time, twice a day, involves nothing but standing around on a playground with broken tether ball courts. The doors on the cabins automatically slam shut, and I got my candy and soda taken away because i "slammed" the door (even though it did that by itself). Do NOT go to this camp. You will strongly regret it... RID: 421
