At this camp I was bullied from a very young age, but continued to attend the camp until I was kicked out due to mental health problems that the camp had caused.

Counselors are great, Sheri the director is awful. She is dishonest, screams at the campers as well as staff. I don’t believe this camp is close to being worth the money they charge and I also believe the trips they go in are over their head. Many campers sent home and injured. They are not equipped to care for the campers as they should be cared for. Beware.

Thunderbird has always been a treasured part of my life. I grew up there, hiking, canoeing, and singing my way through childhood. I was encouraged and nourished into becoming the assertive and independent woman I am today. Even as a camper I knew that if I had kids of my own someday, that they too would attend Thunderbird, and now my own children attend. They are growing into the strong young women Thunderbird is known for turning out. There is truly no better place for young girls to try out such an array of activities in a safe and nurturing atomosphere and backwoods environment. Their no phone/internet policy is one of my favorite aspects for my kids to experience. We all need to disconnect for 8 weeks a year. I also love the focus on being rugged and comfortable and not trendy or flashy. Girls get to let their hair down and just be girls. They get to laugh and play and bond with other girls, and form lifelong friendships. I wouldn't send my kids anywhere else. T-Bird is the best.

I have worked at Thunderbird for two summers and am so happy that I will be returning for another season. I love the sense of community that is created here and always feel supported in my cabin and my activity area. The leadership has high expectations and I am glad that they do because it helps me to be a better staff member and person. I love that I can totally be myself and that the kids are sweet and fun. Well-not always, but they are kids. I l can't wait to get back to Tbird in 2017.

Camp Thunderbird was everything we were looking for in a camp for our daughter. She experienced and learned to appreciate the great outdoors, made real friends, gained independence and had an amazingly fun time! Thunderbird was supportive and responsive to her needs and our needs as parents. As parents, we liked the down-to-earth nature of this camp and the focus on female empowerment and leadership. Our daughter felt comfortable being herself, and we liked that there wasn't a focus on clothes and camp swag. We were concerned because some of the reviews are negative, but most of them seem to be from disgruntled staff who didn't like the the Director's strict rules. As parents, we like that there are high expectations for the Staff. Our daughter loved her Counselors, and felt very cared for by the Directors and other Staff. We are not Thunderbird alums. We highly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a grounded camp with nice girls, caring Staff and a wide range of activities.

To all of the people who say the camp is cliquey, I disagree. My first year at camp I knew absolutely nobody. I am the only person at either camp (boys camp or girls camp) from my state (New Mexico) and I came in and people in my cabin immediately started talking to me and welcoming me to the camp. This is now my 6th year at camp and I will be very excited to see all of the new faces and make tons of new friends! This year i will be headed on one of the extended trips and (from what I have heard) it changes you life. I do not know why anybody would not want to go here. this camp is my life. "I live 10 months for 2" is the most accurate phrase that sums up my life. If you are thinking about signing you child up for this camp next year, no matter their age, sign them up! Everybody loves a new friend! "way up north there's a camp called tbird where we're gunna make lots of friends, ya!" That is just the beginning of one of the songs that we sing! Come to third! We'll have a blast!

This camp has a tradition of being underhanded to its staff and disrespectful to its campers. "We will sink you." This is what the director told the staff during orientation, if anyone speaks negatively about t-bird. Not worth your time.

Camp Thunderbird is an amazing camp that presents wonderful opportunities for young girls to be themselves and explore the north woods of Minnesota. The tripping programs for older campers are fantastic and the friendships that the girls form are irreplaceable. The biggest problem with the camp is the way that the Director treats the staff members. She doesn't respect them and does not give them enough positive feedback. I observed that she gave the counselors that were former campers (an oftentimes some of the best counselors) an especially hard time. Overall I think it is a wonderful camp that you should definitely send your kids to!

The director is awful! She creates an environment which is toxic for both staff and campers.

The directors and AD's have no respect for their staff. A good camp puts the kids first and t-bird puts making money first. Not a bad place to entrust your kids by any means, but absolutely a disrespectful place for people to work.

DO NOT WORK HERE unless you are part of the TBird Clique. Two upper level counselors got away with hooking up with each other in a cabin and the whole camp knew (some campers too!) and nothing was done about it since they had been counselors there for years. If any "new" counselor did that they would and should have been fired! They don't give you your pay check until you are on the bus heading to the airport so if there are any discrepancies you can't do anything about it. The kids love the camp but I would never recommend working there unless you want to get yelled at, make no money, and get eaten by leeches in the lake.

I would not trust this camp. They treat their staff like under-qualified children and in turn the staff treat the campers like garbage. There is a culture of disrespect in this camp as well as the boys camp which has been around a long time. Parents beware, unless your child is a bully or has a group of friends before arriving at t-bird, your child will not have fun.

This camp is great from the perspective of a camper. The kids are taken care of all the time and are always put number one. I agree with other people saying that the camp is overly "cliquey" though, and can see that it would be hard for "non family" kids to come. While the kids are put first, I think it is at the expense of the staff. The full time staff never give you thanks for your work: the only time I was talked to was to get yelled at, reprimanded, or told to change. Often, I was later told something totally different by another member of the full time staff. I do not recommend this camp for people looking for seasonal work.

The camp really does put on a "show" for the kids." The super staff has an ultra ego mentality and treat the cabin counselors like dirt. Cabin counselors are under paid and over worked without ever hearing a bit of thanks. Without fellow counselors to share your struggles with and bond together no one would survive working a summer at Thunderbird. If you weren't born into the Thunderbird family, don't ever expect to be a part of it. You will always be outside of their little circle and trust me, they never let you forget it. Most of the people who have commented grew up at Thunderbird and are part of the clique. Parents, the camp is amazing from a kids perspective. People seeking employment...Don't waste your summer, there are much better things out there!
