Winnebago is an excellent camp! This was our first experience with sleepaway camp. The leadership and staff made this new experience so much easier than we had imagined. The camp does a great job at communicating with parents throughout the summer and parents will marvel at all the activities the children are able to participate in. The grounds are rustic, but when you want an electronics free summer, you get one! The medical staff was incredible at handling kids' allergies and medical conditions. Unfortunately there were some staff issues this past summer. It seemed like the camp handled things swiftly, but perhaps a stronger vetting system for counselors needs to be in place. Overall, this was a great camp experience. Right now, my kids are counting down to two things - Christmas and Camp.

I went to Winnebago (78-85) and counselored there (88-89). Camp was the single most transformative experience in my life. I learned to make a bed, play soccer, and white water canoe. The All Camp Patrol game -- twice a summer -- is the most fun your son will have in his young life. My best friend is someone I met at Winnebago. When my two boys reached camp age, I found the Winnebago values and culture that so shaped my experiences then and since remain the same. Phil Lilienthal, the director during my years, passed the torch to his son, Andy, who runs a modern version of the camp I grew up seeing in my dreams many nights between September and June. Andy gets camping and gets campers, so it is no surprise my older son is returning for his seventh and final year, and my younger son is returning for his fifth of what almost surely will be seven years.

This mother's dream come true. 8 stellar summers. My son aching for his Camp Winnebago friends this summer of 2020 and already talking about what colleges his peers and he (sophomores) might attend together to keep their camaraderie going! CW gives boys the space and guidance to become their best selves. FUN is the consistent daily activity.

Camp Winnebago is an amazing place to develop as a young man. The emphasis on pushing personal limits and creating nurturing spaces is unmatched. The culture is such a genuine place of enjoyment, adventure, and comradery. Your son will return more confident, capable, and caring. There is no better place to spend a summer and the relationships they make will last a lifetime. The facilities are rustic on purpose and new investments in an indoor sports facility and a greenhouse have brought them to great levels

Camp Winnebago is a truly special place. My son went for the first time last summer at age nine and developed incredible independence, self-confidence, and many other skills. He had the most wonderful summer and described special moments like sitting around a campfire with his friends, climbing a challenging mountain, and earning patches in different activities that were so meaningful to him. Andy, the director, does an amazing job. He knows every camper and everything that is going on at camp. The camp is beautiful, in a pristine setting on Echo Lake. The counselors are amazing and they truly care about the campers. Andy hires counselors who he knows will be great role models. This camp is incredible and totally exceeded my (very high) expectations. My son cannot stop talking about camp and can't wait to go back. I could not imagine a better camp!

My son has gone to Winnebago for six summers and will be going for his final (sadly) summer next year when he will be in the senior lodge. Camp Winnebago is an amazing camp that has provided my son with new and wonderful experiences, counselors who have been great role models, lasting friendships, and everthing I would have wished a camp to provide my child. It has lived up to my expectations and then some. I wish I had picked better for my daughter, who went to a different camp that had great facilities, but no soul, and was poorly managed. It was all flash, but no substance. Winnebago is the opposite. Its programming is carefully thought out and the boys' character and development is at the center of its philosophy and activities. Camp Winnebago's activities have been great and its camping trips very memorable for my son. My son has had fabulous, fun filled, and special summers at Winnebago. that he will treasure forever.

I spent seven of my best summers at Camp Winnebago and cannot say enough good things about it. Looking at it objectively and not through the nostalgic glasses I have gained over the past few years, it still is a cornerstone of my maturity. It taught me how to take hardship and turn it into strength, how to find friends in unsuspecting places, and definitely how to laugh at life. Bunks and communal meal times taught me how to deal with people in not only a social sense, but a personal sense. Overnight trips taught me to relish insecurity in new environments because waking up to the sounds of birds is something I may never hear as beautifully as I did then. Sure, there were a few bumps along the way, but that seems to me the definition of adolescence. 5/5 for Winnebago!

Asking my 9 year old son to describe his first summer at Winnebago, he said Awesome, Exciting, Action Packed and you can easily make friends. He is counting the days and anxiously looks forward to another amazing summer. We could not be happier.

My son attended this camp last summer, and I highly recommend it. He loved it. It has the perfect mix of sports and traditional camping activities. The director and counselors got to know my son very well, and I always felt confident that the camp's values and priorities were aligned with mine. It is a lovely camp, with an old-fashioned vibe, but wonderful well-maintained facilities in a beautiful setting.

When I attended Camp Winnebago from 1950 to 1958, I found it to be a camp full of great sporting activities, out of camp trips learning outdoor skills, and warm and caring staff. During the past 6 years I have returned to run 10 day chess activities. I find Camp Winnebago better than ever. Great campeers, great counselors. Two of my grandchildren currently attend Winnebago and the 2 months at camp highlight the year.

My son had such a positive experience at this camp! Andy the director really has his act together and is incredibly organized. The boys at this camp are the nice boys. They are not super competitive like the boys you will find at Cedar and they are not spoiled like the boys you will find at Takajo. They are not nerdy either. These are the boys you want your daughter to marry. They are well rounded nice kids. Andy would not tolerate any bullies. A lot of the kids go to nyc private schools. The outdoor program is fabulous. Your kids learn how to build a fire and camp. The kids don't even miss the electricity. They don't need it. They have the rest of their lives to spend summers in the Hamptons with the lights on. Just enough pictures are posted. This camp is not for the mom who wants to spend her entire summer searching for their kids picture online so they can post it on Facebook. This camp is about being a boy and learning great values and having a fantastic summer! Love this cam

Camp Winnebago is, in my opinion, the finest boys summer camp in the country. It's a place where character and community and resourcefulness are emphasized over all else. The living cabins are rustic-- no electricity, no attached bathrooms-- although they have up-to-date athletic, boating, and swimming facilities. The camp puts a strong emphasis on overnight camping, and each camper takes two such trips per summer. The campers at Winnebago form lifelong bonds that rival or exceed those you'd attain in high school, college or the professional world. I haven't observed another camp whose extended community permeates as far beyond the physical boundaries of the facility. Having visited many other camps in Maine, and having observed their campers and staff on trips around the state, I can confidently say that Winnebago has no rivals in terms of fostering a respectful, responsible culture. I can strongly endorse Camp Winnebago. Your son may well feel its impact for his entire life.

I have been a camper at Winnebago for the past six years and have had no better experiences than I have had at Winnebago. The friends I've made and the people I've met are have the deepest sense of friendship, kindness, and respect that anyone would like to see in the people close to them. The deepest sense of community is evident at Winnebago. The boys become the best of friends within the first week. There's no place I would rather be than at Winnebago. Will Hartman(camper 2008-2014)

One of America's premiere camps – offering a 'camp lifestyle' and ethics level which is refreshing and rare. Boys enjoy a strong, supportive community forged by years of tradition.

Camp Winnebago has become a second home to our son who will enter his fourth summer there in June. Because of the camp leadership and outstanding counselors, our son's sense of self, development of character and overall confidence increase dramatically each year. He's developed his skills in athletics and camp craft because of the personal attention he receives during activities. We've made good friends in the Winnebago families. CW seems to attract down-to-earth, salt-of-the earth perople. This is not a camp for people who crave luxury; it is a camp for those who want their children to appreciate and love nature, to develop independence and to learn to live with only the bare necessities. Andy Lilienthal and his family run the camp with integrity and professionalism; they understand what boys need when they are away from home and what they need to develop to their best potential. It is truly a warm, inviting, and supportive place to spend the summer.

My sons went to Winnebago for 6 years and look forward to being a counselor when they are in college. They made their best memories and best friends at Winnebago. They were encouraged to try new things, be a leader and bond with their fellow campers. This camp was the best thing that ever happened to them and have given them tools to use throughout the year to be strong independent and interesting people. I cannot say enough how much Winnebago helped them develop into the amazing men that now are. The outdoor activities - the overnights were their favorite parts of their summers. They especially loved the build up to their senior trip on the Allagash. The loved the boating, the Brown and Green competitions, the plays, the pranks and the overall camp spirit. The counselors throughout the years have also been amazing. The lack of electricity have them a chance to unplug and appreciate reading and talking to each other. Go look at Winnebago and see the difference.

My son was a camper here for 6 years and it was the best experience for him and the best decision we ever made to send him. He has made life long friends and has learned so much from his years as a camper. We love this camp because the boys are encouraged to try new activities and be supportive and positive towards eachother while having fun and learning. The director lives for this camp and you can see it in the way that he cares for the kids and maintains the facilities. Truly a special place.

My son is experiencing his second summer at Winnebago; my nephew is in his 5th year. This camp has become their home away from home. The athletic instruction is outstanding, the program is rich, and the staff is attentive, supportive and fun. It is a great camp experience that I highly recommend for families who want their boys to connect with nature, to really learn to camp, and to develop athletically and socially.

I worked as a staff member here briefly, but quit because the experience was so miserable. The schedule was nothing like what was described in the interview process, and the administration made it very difficult for me to teach the activity I was hired to lead. For the most part, campers were disobedient and constantly bickering with each other, and many of the other staff seemed just as disgruntled as I was. I understand that some campers have very positive experiences here, but it is NOT a good place to work - unless you like working 14+ hours a day for slave wages and risking your personal safety to keep kids from killing each other.

I was camper here in the same summer as the person below and I can say that they are wrong. This camp may lack electricity but that is what some campers are looking for and its obviously just the fact that this person did not find the right camp that gave it a bad image in his eyes. I can say for sure that the reason there were mice in this person's bunk was because they had candy. Food in open bunks attracts animals, it is as simple as that. On another note, the staff is always amazing and the fact that this person got bored at this fantastic place blows my mind. There is so much to do! Go kayaking, fishing, use a camp camera and take some pictures, sail, hike up the creek, play tennis, start a volley ball tournament, play tetherball, talk to friends (the rater below probably doesnt have any.) i could go on like this for hours. So just if you are looking into this camp desregard the comments belowSigned- A six year camper soon to be a seven year and then a counselor
