Click to report rating    12/21/14   5     3     5     5     5   3 for facilities because this is a PROPER camp, rustic and comfortable. Not a playground for rich kids. I'd have to agree with the review below regarding value for money as well RID: 48226
Click to report rating    10/1/14   5     5     5     5     5   My children have been going to this camp for the last three years. The staff are wonderful people, most of the American staff went there as campers before becoming staff and then there are the internationals (including the director) from all over the world. The facility is a beautiful place (do a web search for the images) and my kids always have a great time on the activities. AND THEN there's the big one, value for money. I can send my kids away for two weeks for $650 each or $325 per child per week. I don't know how they do it, I have been told a lot of their money comes from donations from alumni, for me I would struggle to get food/entertainment and child care for my kids for that much money and then factor in the fact that they come back home each time fitter, more confident, better at swimming, more independent... The list goes on, they were both in tears when we picked them up this year because they didn't want to leave. RID: 48043

10/3/13   5     5     4     5     5   I worked at Mich for two summers 20010,2011 as the Adventure Specialist. First I would like to respond to the following negative repost. First of all, this is from a very disgruntled employee who did not quit during the season but was asked to leave for some very solid reasons. In my opinion I do agree that the YMCA of Bergen County could invest more money into their summer camp. But despite of this the camp does work and work very well. Activities such as low ropes, rock climbing canoeing, swimming, hiking, over night cook outs, and arts and crafts, archery and sports, teach kids to appreciate and love the outdoors. For the moderate price the campers get an excellent old fashion camp experience. The staff is a variety of former campers from Hackensack/Teaneck,college age international staff and experience upper staff members.I for one was 40 when I lead my speciality for two years with over 15 years experience. Also Camp Michikamua created enthusiasm with songs, RID: 46067
7/20/13   1     1     1     1     1   Michikamau is a boring swim camp with nothing to offer beyond a 20 foot swim beach. Kids waste most hours singing nonsense songs and playing nonsense games they could easily play back home in Hoboken NJ. Bear Mountain is beautiful but there are no camp programs to explore the mountain. Arts and crafts are a joke. Rather than hire real specialists, they just hire teen CIT's to be arts specialists, hiking specialists, nature specialists, because YMCA claims to be "broke" so "can't afford" any decent programs or activities or counselors. Most counselors are just Hoboken kids too old to be campers. I tried to be arts specialist there. The bullying abusive incompetent camp directors refused to even approve my art supply budget. So in disgust I quit halfway through. I don't see how spending every hour singing nonsense songs and playing musical chairs and tetherball could be considered entertaining. Huge waste of summertime, huge waste of Bear Mountain nature. RID: 45261

Click to report rating    6/11/13   4     3     4     5     4   This is a home away from home for everyone who attends. It is a place to find yourself and get away from all of the stress of the real world RID: 44732
Click to report rating    2/16/12   5     5     5     4     5   I really loved this camp. 07 AND 09 ROCKED!!!! I loved the counselors so much c: And I met so many really awesome friends c: Although, I wouldn't REALLY suggest going in the 3rd session, cuz the counselors start to get a little less enthusiastic :P Only complaint is that once a girl snuck into our cabin, and I had to fall asleep listening to "things". THANKS A LOT. >_> RID: 40347
Click to report rating    1/6/12   5     5     5     5     5   No place in the world I would rather be. Grew up here all my life and miss it every day I am not there. RID: 37654
Click to report rating    7/26/11   5     5     5     5     5   I've never been there before, but the socials between my camp, Camp Ma-He-Tu's and Camp Michikamau has been pretty good. I liked their counselors, the guys were really nice (take THAT Michikamau girls) and the bathrooms weren't too bad. Peace out, from a Ma-He-Tu girl! RID: 36524
Click to report rating    8/3/08   5     3     5     5     5   I have made amazing memories here. I love this place and have only been going for two years. Im excited to return for the last session soon. RID: 25411
Click to report rating    11/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   A fantastic camp. The activities are well structured, the staff are kind and supportive, and the kids are great! The last session isn't really the greatest (as meals are repeated and counselors lose SOME gusto), but overall it is fantastic! RID: 17584
