I went to CTD for 6 years. Commuting is not worth it. The staff are okay. Somebody pooped in the dorm shower. Maybe you'll learn a little but really not worth it unless you want high school or college credit. I know academic camps really well and you'd be better off going out of state if you're from IL. I recommend Summer Precollegiate at Stanford, its really cool. But if you're from out of state, CTD might be more fun. The activities aren't great (you have to sign up for the week). There is a dance but it's kind of awkward. I have food allergies and you have to check for every single meal with a chef. You're not going to be very relaxed unless you're going to the lake or doing a fun activity. A lot of homework. But it is pretty fun if you are excited to stay and live in a dorm. You'll make some friends but likely you won't keep in touch unless you live near each other. It's a very unique experience that I would suggest at least trying out, because you will make some awesome memories.

This camp is absolutely wonderful! I do recommend that if a child has never been away from home, they might get a tad homesick. They should be fine though. Everyone is very nice! If you go you should try to socialize, to make your experience even better! The activities you go into are very fun and its a good way to relax and hangout after your classes. Also, I reccommend that if you plan on learning something useful for high school, do not take courses such as 3d printing because those are very fun, but you do not get much out of it. Maybe take a creative writing or trigonometry honors class! I say this because the only downside of this camp is that it is not cheap at all. But, parents, this is a great experience for children!

I hated it, was terribly homesick. Counselors seemed not to care about the kids. Had a couple of friends who went and they also hated it so it's not just me. The class was interesting but the people in my class were disgusting. Cried a lot, felt sick, NEVER going back!!!

My son attended spark this past year (4th grade) and loved it. His instructor in programming was excellent and he had a blast in the dorms. That was one week and he will be attending the three week apogee camp this summer. It's a great way for kids that love school and learning to be with similar kids.

Site coordinator was terrible. The teacher was good but you could tell she was frustrated with those in charge. Equipment was very limited and after a private conversation about how the staff was treated I will never return.

While the camp is very expensive, I really enjoyed taking Physics at Northwestern. My RTA was very fun to be around, but didn't know much about the subject (she was an English major!). The dorms were alright; not disgusting but definitely not he nicest place I've been in but definitely better than the dorms I've stayed in at UChicago. The activities are great. I come to Chicago relatively often so many of the weekend ones turned me off. However, there were trips to bookstores and The Second City, which is too funny. In terms of attention, I got plenty from both my teacher and the staff, although they seemed tired all the time. While a tad expensive, the teachers were great and I made tons of new friends :) One huge, huge downside of the program is the sheer strictness of the management. Students have to sign in 3 (!!) times a day and visiting hours are limited to only 2 hours on Sunday. I have friends who live about an hour away, so it's a bit inconvenient to meet for only 2 hours.

It's $3300 for 3 wks (2011), RAs were nice but not attentive to kids. Program coordinator was obnoxious. Classes were not taught by Northwestern professors. Resident hall/room had the very minimal, no computer labs in dormitory. A very expensive summer program.

I was not impressed at all. It's over-priced. They had poor teachers for certain classes. Dorms are disgusting and poorly maintained. Activities on the weekdays cater only to people who play sports; activities on the weekends seem to be mostly for tourists (local museums, parks, etc.). I won't be attending again.

This was probably the BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME ALL SUMMER last year. I met so many new awesome people that I still keep in touch with now, and I had the most AMAZING time there; everyone was really smart and we could relate to things better. I only wish I could go again this year...

It's $4000 for three weeks and you have to be really smart to get in: you have to apply and take the SATs. I got in last year and this year and it's really fun because they took us to the Water Tower and we could go anywhere on Michigan ASve. by ourselves. It's cool, but not everyone can get in!
