Click to report rating    7/23/10   5     5     5     5     5   Definitely one of the better camps around. My child learned a lot of useful information. He works quickly and the instructor was able to give him challenges so that he didn't waste his time. That was great -- thank you! He enjoyed this camp! :) RID: 33445
Click to report rating    10/2/09   5     5     5     5     5   My son loved this camp - spoiled with his own computer, access to cool software, nice place. It was great. I felt he really had a good experience. The staff seemed to really like the kids and got to know them in the week that we were there. RID: 31189
Click to report rating    9/26/09   5     4     4     5     5   I was an instructor at this location last summer and I think that this location is a great experience for kids. We really try to ensure not only an educational camp but a positive experience for every child. Because it's a smaller location then many others, we can tailor the camp to every child's needs. I worked with a great team of enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructors this summer. I can't imagine a better staff for the kids to learn from. As to the software, I know that almost every course uses industry standard software. The only courses I can think of that use a lower complexity software are geared for the very young children. I taught web design and our course used Adobe Photoshop CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, and Flash CS4. As to facilities, Santa Clara keeps their buildings and grounds well maintained. It's a closed, well patrolled campus with a mature student base. As to price, the price is high, but so are the standards of the camp. It is a quality educational camp experience. RID: 31103

Click to report rating    5/29/09   5     5     5     5     5   Our son attended the camp last summer at Santa Clara University and had a great time. He looked forward to going back each day and was incredibly proud of the game he created by the end of the week - showed it off to anyone who would listen for weeks. He's looking forward to going again this summer, this time for 2 weeks. in short, he had a great experience and we were very happy with the quality of the camp. RID: 29883
Click to report rating    5/17/09   5     5     5     5     4   My son is attending ID Tech at Cal Berkeley for his third year. After 2 years of creating videogames, this year will be a 2 week overnighter with his cousin who is flying in from Colorado! He is so excited about the college campus experience featuring everything from dorms to the cafeteria, and classroom. I highly recommend this camp for any tween who has interest in technology. Make the switch from being a passive technology user to a technology designer and builder - the skills prove to be invaluable. RID: 29773
Click to report rating    5/10/09   5     5     5     5     5   iD Tech camps was an amazing experience for my children, ages 12 & 14. Both of them were very resistant to the idea of a summer camp, being teenagers they thought they were well above that type of interaction. However, iD Tech Camps quickly and actively engaged my children by one on one interaction and challenging high technology scenarios. Both of them stated that they were surprised that camp was so entertaining and was anything but a run of the mill camp. They both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and raved about the camp. Even stating they would really like to go back and try other camps!!! THANK YOU ID TECH CAMPS!! RID: 29719
Click to report rating    5/10/09   5     5     5     5     5   My son has attended many camps and I realized last week the impact id tech camps has made. He's in Middle School and had to write a huge project on the career he is considering. He usually just rushes through his school work. For this paper he spent a lot of time and ALSO wrote a checkers program using the same software he used in the video game course he took last summer. His teacher was thoroughly impressed. Now my son is seriously considering being a software programmer and is excited to return to id tech camps to take the programming course. The staff was really helpful and influential in making sure that my son had fun and learned a lot. Also, being at Stanford was a huge plus (he loved the cafeteria food :) ). This is the only camp he's attended that truly has made a lasting impact after the summer. He's going back for as long as we can send him and he wants to attend! RID: 29718
Click to report rating    1/26/09   2     2     4     4     3   My 7yo son attended the Game Design camp at Stanford. He had a fabulous time and said this was his favorite camp all summer. But... as a mom, I have to say that I found several staff members to be rude, the equipment was poor, and the younger kids really needed better supervision. Though my son would gladly go back, we're trying a different camp with a similar theme next summer. RID: 28724
Click to report rating    10/11/08   2     2     1     1     1   I worked at iDTech Camps this past summer, and this camp is a waste of money. Instructors teach classes that they are familiar with at times, but very often they teach more than one class at a time, and they teach classes that they themselves didn't learn until a couple of weeks before the class. The camp was very disorganized, with children running to different locations without adequate supervision at all times, and this camp is particularly bad for teenagers who just seemed to get left out, in my experience. In addition, the software for some classes wasn't like anything that I would expect to see in the professional world. RID: 26966
Click to report rating    5/25/08   4     3     5     5     4   My son has been attending iD Tech Camps at Stanford University and UC Davis for several years now. This is the only camp I have ever sent him to where he did not want to come home at the end of the day! Every afternoon that I come to pick him up he begged to stay overnight! Although the camp is a bit on the pricey side I prefer to pay the cost to see my son so enthusiastic about returning than to send him to an alternative camp that costs less. The courses are amazing and evolve every year so the kids can take the same course two years in a row and will still be learning new information! The instructors are great, so helpful and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend this camp to anyone interested in gaming and computers. RID: 23392
Click to report rating    4/22/08   5     4     4     5     5   My eight-year-old daughter completed the 1-week Adventures in Game Design camp. She loved it! It was a great hands-on introduction to game design. It was age-appropriate, her instructor was great - she got lots of one-on-one time, it's a little pricey but a great summer activity/camp for kids. I'd like to see idTech expand and host more classes in the North Bay (i.e. Napa). RID: 22523
Click to report rating    3/5/08   1     5     1     1     1   iD Tech camp was disappointing, you go there to learn programming and what do you get? You get ultimate frizbee and "feel good" group games. WTF?! They focus more on outdoor activities then actual programming. If I wanted sports I'd pay for a sports camp, worse use of money ever. Not only that but the instructors are inconsistent with their knowladge, curriculum is not structured and changes based on what the on campus manager feels like doing (which often isn't related to computers!). Miss typed a website url which redirected to a**** site and they accused me of being a**** addict in front of other students. Oh, and avoid piano guy ...he is a real jacka$$. AVOID! RID: 20945
Click to report rating    11/14/07   3     2     3     1     1   This camp was horrible. I took DV (Digital Video Editing) I was expecting it to be fun with all of the state of the art equipment they offer and the cool location but no. The "state of the art" equipment was all either out of date of low end. The cameras and tripods where nothing special, just cheap consumer Canon SD cameras and flimsy tripods. The staff where okay but were inconsistent with their knowledge and not very good at explaining. The structure of the camp was ridiculous. The where focused more on quantity of videos produced than the quality. They pushed us to edit 3 films in one week and were not very helpful throughout the process. The one good piece of equipment they used was Apple's Final Cut Pro but it was very out of date and they only had one copy for the whole camp so we had to unplug the internet whenever using FCP so that the network wouldn't detect that one license was being used on more than one computer and not let you use it. Go to the media center camp RID: 17069
Click to report rating    11/6/07   5     5     5     4     3   My son attended the surf and video game creation camp. He absolutely loved it!!! He wants to go again next year. He learned a tremendouse amount about computers and video games design and has taught me some things I did not know about computers. He got to know a couple of other students and has kept in touch with two of them. If I can afford it, I will send him again. RID: 16814
Click to report rating    10/26/07   5     3     4     5     4   I went for programming and programming 2.0, which actually covered some AP computer science material (stacks, linked lists, sort algorithms...). I think the program for at least these courses was great. The teachers were excellent, and while they had to deal with several students, they would always help you. I found that after taking these courses, the standard Introduction to Programming course, which I took online over a few weeks, was not worth a minute of my time. As some of the reviews say, the dorms weren't exactly luxurious, but as long as there was a computer in front of me I didn't exactly care. And there always was. I think they have really great software (All right, Visual Studio is not exactly my ideal IDE, as I come from a UNIX/Mac OS background, but you get the idea.) I took video game creation or something a few years ago, and it wasn't quite as fun as programming, but still enjoyable. I learned a lot at this camp, and it's a real pity they don't have Programming 3.0! RID: 16523
Click to report rating    8/21/07   4     3     2     3     1   Sure the instructors are funny, the people are great, but the actual program? It stinks! I took the film class. The instructor did the camera, designed the shots, and directed the whole thing. We were basically just the actors. And then there was editing. The instructor didn't even know how to edit that well, and, because of that, I learned NOTHING!! Also, they advertise all of their "cool" equipment, but our tripod was the worst of its kind. I went to another film class that is much better. Its called New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, Hollywood. They actually had decent equipment there, and the location was amazing!!! So, I suggest you rethink going to ID Tech for film because there are alot of better courses. RID: 14319
Click to report rating    6/4/07   2     4     1     2     1   For the money, I think that another camp, Cybercamps, is a better buy. The staff looked as though they were intimidated or afraid of management in California office. Opening day was utter chaos... don't go first or last week of camp season. RID: 11512
