This rating reflects how this camp is for staff. This camp is good for the kids, for the most part, but anybody who is considering to work there, should think twice. The camp owner is an obnoxious and heartless **** - I am sorry, but I can't find other words to describe her. Gretchen runs her camp as a slave plantation (this is how it feels for staff). She will squeeze you like a lemon to the last drop with her ridiculous demands and expectations - working non-stop 16 hours a day - and will dispose of you, using the smallest excuse, if any kind of a disagreement or a conflictual situation arises. She picks a few favorites and uses them to control and manipulate the rest of the staff. I have worked in 5 different summer camps in my life and this was by far my worst experience as a camp counselor. So, if you are reading this while considering to work there - please do yourself a favor and find a different camp. Otherwise, you will be taking a serious chance of ruining your summer.

I feel like I'm echoing many of the other positive comments. But I really feel like I need to add my voice to the chorus of happiness. This is a FANTASTIC camp, better than my own overnight camp I attended when I was a kid (and that's saying something, given my intense feelings of loyalty). How great is it? Well, my daughter starts dreaming about the next summer within minutes of returning home. Campers get terrific choices (choices for food and choices for activities), and we found our daughter returned with a renewed sense of confidence and independence. The staff are exceptional and take such terrific care of the kids. In a word: fantastic camp. (Oh wait. That was two words wasn't it ;)

This is the best camp on earth. The activities are fabulous, the staff is warm, welcoming, fun and playful, the facility is gorgeous and very well kept, the nurses are terrific and the owners run a tight ship! For the last 4 summers our child has enjoyed herself tremendously and we have had the peace of mind that she has been in very good hands both during the day and sleeping over. There are absolutely no negatives to this magical place. We love you Half Moon!

I really can't say enough about what a great experience our daughter had at Camp Half Moon this summer. My only difficulty rating is that the "Staff" and "Personal Attention" scales don't go above 5. There is genuine enthusiasm among the staff and counselors that translates immediately to the campers. We were so pleased with Camp Half Moon this summer and highly recommend it. Can't wait for our daughter to return next summer!

I can't say enough wonderful things about Camp Half Moon! My son and daughter will say that the summers they spent there were the best times of their lives. My son just got back from his 6th summer and the countdown is on until next June. The staff is incredible, the camp grounds are super and the activities couldn't be better. My daughter made such great friends she went to France over the December holiday to visit them. I highly recommend this camp if you are considering sleep away camp for your child.

My family loves CHM! My children have been attending for five years and we spend each July up in the berkshires just so they can attend camp there. The activities are varied, the facilities are great and the lake locale is wonderful! The counsellors are all well spoken and professional and most plan teaching as a future profession. I highly recommend!

My daughter has been going to this camp for 6 years. She started going overnight for 2 weeks and immediately went to 6. She has met some of the most amazing staff and has made some incredible friendships for life. My daughter counts down the days to when she starts from the minute she leaves!! The facilites are nice and the food is camp food.. but they love those cheese sticks!! My daughter has become a leader and very independent from this camp and I am proud she calls this place home.

I absolutely LOVE this camp. I went here as a child and my sister started in their Tiger program at 5 years old and continued to return every year until she was old enough to be a C.I.T and then the following years as a camp counselor. My youngest son went here last year and can't wait to return this summer. My oldest son is also excited to start this summer. They always have an incredible staff and fun activities. We absolutely LOVE this camp. It really is "the best little camp in the Berkshires!"

The staff was oppressive to campers and impeded their ability to have fun. They have rediculos rules and regulations. And the camp director is obnoxious and mean to campers. My child never wants to go back there. And nither do the friends she made there

We LOVE Camp Half Moon. My two children have been going there a combined total of nine years and it just gets better and better. Many of our friends have sent their children as well-- ALL of them happy as could be. CHM provides a lot of fun, traditional camp experiences and a wide variety of activity choices. Simply can not say enough good things about the day camp experience. The sleep-away experience may not be for every child/family due to the fact that children come and go throughout the summer. However, for a family who wants flexibility this could be considered a plus. For what CHM may lack in state-of-the-art equipment, they more than make up for in dedicated staff and happy campers. We will miss CHM when our kids no longer attend.

My children have been attending Half Moon for three years and they absolutely love it. The facilities aren't as up-to-date as others in the area, but Half Moon's value is certainly the best in the region, and the staff are fantastic.

Interviewed with this camp and after agreeing to contract terms and offered the position, the director changed the agreed salary, dates, and travel arrangements. Wish I'd known earlier, but consider myself lucky to have found out sooner rather then later. I wouldn't recommend working for or with this camp.

Our daughter has had a wonderful time at their daycamp. She loves the staff and the other kids, and she is so excited by the activities, especially gymnastics, slide and dive and kyacking. She is getting exposure to sleepaway camp even though she is a daycamper. Every Thurs nite the daycampers can stay for dinner,a campfire and sleepover with their group. We are just so happy that we found this camp. I was expecting it to be good, but it has turned out to be great. We have done many camps, and Half Moon is by far the best and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants their children to have total camp experience in a beautiful environment with really nice people. Whenever I have had contact with the administration, they were very nice and very helpful. So, I have no complaints at all. My child is in heaven and is already talking about wanting to go to their sleepaway camp next year.I think she is made to feel special at camp, and thats important.

My kid has tremendously enjoyed spending summers with the other campers at CHM for the past two years. The staff are unquestionably personal, warm and friendly. The facilities are traditional and fun. The owners are rule-obsessed business-comes-first types. A great summer camp for kids run by MBA wanna-bes.

My four children have attended camp halfmoon and have had unique experiences and made friendships that are maintained throughout the year. They look forward to participating in all the water sports as well as reconnecting with their friends every summer. The staff is superb and never once have I been concerned about my children while they are at camp; I just look forward to getting their happy notes and look forward to hearing all about their adventures. If you are looking for a safe, fun, exciting place for your children where they are encouraged to be themselves, camp halfmoon is the place for them.

As a Mom with a child whom needed more one on one than most. We found Camp Halfmoon able to give this and with their great staff. They have given my son the qulity of life he so needed to find in himself.I have tryed many places for my son to grow and they are the best there is. The rules their are for everyone saftey and it would be crazy to think a camper could undestand and be able to write an honset review. Keep up the good work Camp Halfmoon.Looking fowarded to another great summer in 2009 for Robert.

CHM is okay. Over the bast few years it's gotten a lot worse, very quickly. Maybe it's because i'm getting older, i dunno. CHM has a huge spectrum of activities for everyone, most of which they do a pretty good job with. However the one thing i can't stand about this camp are the rules. Half Moon is so strict, which in turn elicits a certain degree of rebellion from the campers, especially the teen campers.I've compared the rules of half moon to the rules of my friends' camps and by far we at half moon have the least freedom. So if you as a parent are interested in sending your child to a strict camp with plentiful random, useless rules, CHM is definitely the place to go. If any kind of head staff is out there reading this, the camp would be SOOOO much better if you would just lighten up on all the darn rules! They're the only reason i dont wanna go back.

My kids have been attending Camp Half Moon for 4 years and 2 years respectively. They both have been so happy with the camp and have gotten a great deal of personal attention and encouragement on all fronts. Set in a bucolic Berkshire setting - Camp Half Moon is a great place for kids of all ages.

This camp experience changed my children's life forever. As city kids they were gently introduced to country life at their own pace. They learned water skills, sailing kayaking and many other skills city kids don't have the chance to experience. They made friends they have had for years and were introduced to people from all over the world with whom they have stayed in touch. The value was unbeatable and the nurturance was unequaled at any other camp they attended. I would recommend this camp without reservation. You won't be sorry.

I think the people who wrote bad stuff are stupid. The counseelors are rly nice, and are from all over the world, so it's rly kewl to find out about where their from. the food is good, and the lake is really cool. we get to go kayaking and sailing, and there's a slide that goes right into the lake! the people there are really cool, and there's a dog named spencer who walks around the camp and is really good. i really liked my counselors in my cabin. they're really fun, and i still send them emails. My favorite part about camp is the Cheroke Mahaywe color wars. its rly fun, and goes on the whole summer, so you don't miss anything. I rly love half moon, and i cna't wait for this summer!

You never meet any friends like the ones you do at camp. Camp Half Moon is full of so many happy memories looking back, my life would not be the same without it. An important experience I believe many should share.
