Click to report rating    7/29/16   5     5     5     5     5   My sister went here in the 70's and said it was a life changing experience, so I sent my son to Colvig on her recommendation. My son hated his prior two summers at a more traditional summer camp. That said, My son was not an outdoorsman. Camp, was hard, but a fun challenge for my video game loving boy. Now, after 6 impactful, challenging and fun summers I can say that yes, this camp is a life changer. It has helped my son grow, become independent, confident and a care taker of the planet. It is my sons "happy place". His experience at Colvig has shaped the man he will become. The staff is highly trained ( contrary to one negative review below) and cares deeply about each child. They help resolve conflicts between kids and teach them how to function when mom and dad aren't around. The Colvig family is a shining example of integrity and class. You can trust them with your kids. My son, will return as staff as soon as he is eligible to do so and will likely send his future children as wel RID: 49844
Click to report rating    2/18/14   5     4     5     5     5   I've sent my three children to this camp, every summer, for the past 11 years. They've worked their way through the different programs and age groups. This experience has been, without a doubt, the single most positive and formative influence in their lives, with great memories, a great work ethic, great confidence, and a wonderful sense of humor and cooperation. They all have developed a love for the outdoors, wilderness, and backpacking / mountain climbing that will last a lifetime. Admittedly, some years are better than others as group chemistry can change. But for every 'off' year, there's 4 fantastic years to balance it out. The camp 'playground' is amidst some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. RID: 46782
Click to report rating    10/21/12   5     5     5     5     5   I feel awful after reading the last review. As a recent counselor, I feel personally responsible for their bad time. I mean it when I say that the counselors do SINCERELY care about your kids. We have weekly meetings to discuss camper issues. We have a pre-camp training that teaches us extensively on how to deal with problems that may arise. We are professionals. However this camp is not about coddling your kids, it's about building character and teaching life lessons that can't be found on a computer screen. . .but the campers have to want it. I would highly recommend this camp to your kids if they like challenging themselves. The situations they are put in are hard at times, but the memories, friends, and rewards they get out of it will last a lifetime. RID: 42912
Click to report rating    8/30/12   2     2     1     2     2   Colvig Silver Camp is not a camp that I would recommend. The camp has very few daily activities with very little range. The majority of the 4 weeks is spent on backpacking trips. It was not what I was looking for in a camp, though some may enjoy that component. However, the trips did not always feel safe. The counselors were not highly trained to make the safest decisions, and my group was caught in a lightening storm because of a bad judgement call on the counselors' parts. The camp discourages campers from receiving too many letters by having a 7 letter per week limit- campers must jump into a pond if they receive more. What they describe as a lake is merely a pond filled with lots of algae. The counselors do a poor job of working with the campers to help solve conflicts and deal with homesickness. There is a sense that campers should "suck it up" instead of actually helping with real emotions. The riding program was the best part of my experience. I would not recommend Colvig. RID: 42550
Click to report rating    6/8/12   5     5     5     5     5   From a parent's perspective - children now in their 30s it was the best experience of their lives. It built character, life long friends and a love of the outdoors. I can't recommend them highly enough. It's a true gift to give your child this experience. RID: 41238
Click to report rating    11/2/07   5     5     5     5     5   I first attended CSC when I was 11 and my summer there changed my life. I went out to be a camper for another five years and then spend one on staff and I can't wait to go back. It is truly the best place in the world. What makes CSC unique is it's focus on wilderness activities; as a child my backpacking experiences gave me so much confidence and as a counselor I got to see my campers have that same sort of change. The staff is warm, knowledgeable about wilderness activities, and fun and creative. I would highly recommend CSC. RID: 16696
Click to report rating    5/6/07   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVE Colvig Silver Camps. It built up my confidence soooo much!!! All of the consulars and support staff are there for you iff you get homesick, or are having a tough time. It is a small camp, so it gives people a chance to get to know everyone. Also, it is small enough to let you get to know the director of the camp. RID: 10573
