Click to report rating    8/28/20   5     5     5     5     5   Camp Shohola provides a nurturing environment steeped in tradition. There is something to entertain every boy’s interest — so many fun activities that most children may not get to experience at home. There are countless fun events, including a whole-camp Capture the Flag. In addition, the boys form meaningful friendships in a supportive environment. My son came home with renewed energy, a sparkle in his eyes and memories to last a lifetime. A summer full of adventure, laughs, and character-building. Couldn't be happier with the staff and the way the owners run this camp -- positive energy! RID: 53293
Click to report rating    8/26/20   5     5     5     5     5   Shohola is incredible. Even during a Covid year they innovated, protected, communicated, and gave our son the summer of his life. We are so grateful to the true professionals who worked so hard to make it happen. Our family highly recommends this camp! RID: 53291

Click to report rating    4/26/19   5     5     5     5     5   Shohola changed my life. Went there as a camper in 1971 and stayed about 19 years. Have not missed 1 summer since then going back to visit. The names of people change but the magic stays the same. It gives kids a real ability to grow in so many areas.I am glad the great value system that Shohola helps kids develop is as strong as ever despite the ever changing world we are in. RID: 52580
Click to report rating    4/26/19   5     5     5     5     5   I’m 52. My son is 15. I went to Shohola for 5 summers and my son has been the past 6. This camp is special. Run by Pops Barger, then son Kit, and now grandson Duncan and wife Holly, the traditions for character-building fun are woven into every aspect of the camp. Your boy doesn’t have to be a jock or an outdoorsman to thrive at Camp Shohola, though either would love it. It caters to a vast array of personalities and interests. The camp is about good clean silly fun with access to about any activity you can imagine. I’m now a CEO and attribute many of my foundational leadership skills to my summers at Camp Shohola. Click to report rating    1/28/19   5     5     5     5     5   I attribute much of my success as an adult to the physical and interpersonal skills I learned as a camper at Shohola. It's only a matter of time before I'm dropping off a son of my own to spend a summer at this home away from home. RID: 52440
Click to report rating    1/26/19   5     5     5     5     5   My brothers and I started going to Shohola in the 60's. I went 8 summers. It is definitely my best memories of childhood. Shohola teaches you independence, how to be on a team, good sportmanship, and how to learn to participate in many new activities. The staff was superb. It was so wonderful that it was a no-brainer, that when we had children of our won, they, too, would go to Shohola. My sons each went 8 years, too. The camp has evolved, added lots of new activities, but when I recently went to the 75th reunion, it was amazing how many campers loved it as much as I did. RID: 52436
Click to report rating    7/23/16   5     4     5     5     5   This is the best camp ever. The facilities might not be the best but it doesn't matter. When I go every time it feels like family there. RID: 49809
Click to report rating    2/4/14   5     3     5     5     5   My son went to Shohola last summer and it was his first time at sleep away camp. He had a fabulous time, and this year wants to go back for seven weeks (last year he went for four). He gained great independence and maturity. Duncan and the rest of the staff were tremendous. My son perhaps demands more attention than your average kid, and the staff certainly met his demands. He enjoyed the activities and the community building. The fellow campers are a very nice bunch. The accommodations are rustic, but we knew that going in, and I think that rustic accommodations yield nicer kids, which is a big part of what I wanted for my son in a summer camp. RID: 46698

Click to report rating    10/18/13   5     5     5     5     5   I sent my son here for his first time at a real overnight camp and it was a blast. It was easy to communicate with him via email and as per his description the camp is not as big as nearby Pine Forest Camp which gives Shohola a feeling of communityand also he liked the traditional felling. Click to report rating    9/16/12   3     1     3     3     3   My son had an allergy flare up because he "slept next to a pile of dust." Buildings are ill-kept. He actually liked the camp food. Next summer he will go to another camp with a high camper/staff return rate. RID: 42688
Click to report rating    8/1/12   5     5     5     5     5   Our son is in his 3rd summer at Shohola. He loves it. Our family loves it. He talks about camp all year long. One of the best things we has done as parents was send our son to Shohola. RID: 42185

Click to report rating    3/15/12   5     5     5     5     5   I have been going to this camp for 3 years now. I have to say that it is the best camp ever created. One of the cool things are that some of the campers and counselors are from different countries. So you get to learn about different cultures. And you get to try their foods on international food day. Since the camp is small, we are like one big family. I can't wait to come back here again. Cabin 4 rocks! RID: 40540

8/20/11   5     5     5     5     5   This is an amazing camp. This was my son's 4th year(CIT this year). There is an enormous emphasis on knowing all campers and their families. The director and counselors immediately introduce themselves and make you feel welcome, help the camper move in, and show you the camp. The first time we came, the director knew our names and made sure we felt comfortable leaving our son here. There is a tremendous sense of community and a great deal of bonding. The counselors work very, very hard to make sure the kids are well taken care of and are having a good time. The cabins are basic but adequate. Though it can get hot, the cabins are shaded and stay somewhat cool. This is a relatively small camp, about 120 kids. My daughter went to a camp with more than 500 kids, and it was terrible. With a small size, all the staff(including Kitchen) and kids know one another and it is one big family. Thank you Duncan and Holly(directors) for making this camp such a special place. RID: 36788
