Great staff and a great ratio of staff to camper. Make sure to talk to the directors when you are there, they will know your name by heart, even though you have never met them. That is top notch service

I had sent my children (ages 6 and 8) to Tamarak for the summer, on the recommendation of a friend. Previously my kids went through the Buffalo Grove Park District camp- which was SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper and provided them with more activities. The staff were at an appropriate ratio, however had been largely composed in high school kids that didn't seem to have too much knowledge or passion for the activities. Campers went swimming 2 times a day, unfortunately my kids HATED that Tamarak was a structured swim lesson program for majority of the swim time, they were used to the other program where swim time was a free play with their friends to cool off and splash around. Tamarak was a decent camp, but definitely deserves consideration before re-registering for this summer

You pay for what you get here, sure it is expensive, but it is worth it. We pulled our two sons out of a park district camp after some bad experiences. They came to tamarak mid summer and fell in love. They staff is fantastic, the programs are all new and exciting. The open camp policy is great. Dave and Lucia want parents to know that they should come any time, not when the camp is staged, that is how sure they are about their programming. I would stop mid-day and my kids would be having a blast. Truly the best day camp on the North Shore!!!! We are sending them back next year!

As newcomers to the area, we registered our daughter for summer camp at Tamarak based on the recommendations of many. We had a wonderful experience working with Lucia and Dave and their great staff - counselors and bus staff alike. Our daughter came home every day exhausted (as another rater noted - in the 'good' way) and is already asking about camp for NEXT summer! It's more expensive than some of the other (local) options available - but in my opinion, you get what you pay for. We paid for an exceptional experience and that is definitely what we got.

My daughters loved Tamarak. Lucia and Dave are proud of their camp and welcome visitors at any time....not just when the camp is "on stage." Their swim program is top notch!

4 days in this camp is the prefect place! Both my kids love if and the new program has spiced up the already large selection they offer!

I cannot say enough positive things about Tamarak. I read the previous reviews and am not sure they are even talking about the same camp. It is in an affluent area and a little more expensive, yes. However, my son absolutely adores it there! My son is constantly swimming, exploring nature, learning about science, among other things. I am not sure why people stated the camp was boring. My son comes home exhausted (the good kind) every day! Perhaps their child was not in the correct age group? They also catered to my sons allergies and have 2 registered nurses on staff. I would not send my son anywhere else, and we have a lot of options close to us if I wanted to change. I would strongly encourage you to tour the facility yourself and meet Dave and Lucia. I think you would get a much different impression than those negative reviews. -LAC, Long Grove, Illinois

Truly great camp. we sent our child to a nearby camp, but we were very upset with their service. Tamarak became the prefect fit!

We were very disappointed with Tamarak. They are really a pre-school that runs a summer program. Our son was five last year and had already outgrown their programs, after the first week, he begged to stay home most days. This year we are sending him to a nearby camp that has so much more to offer for almost the same price! Summer is for camp not school...

After three years here we had to pull our child out, two weeks into camp. They are not very organized, too many kids and the program is same old thing, our daughter is just plain board with it.

We spent one summer here. How on earth can a 5 year old be bored? The camp is not safe - they have an open door policy. Parents can tour and drop in anytime...often upsetting children. The camp is rustic to a fault. The bus service is horrible. Communication is lacking. For the money there are many other camps to choose from and for the same quality you can go to a park district - where staff might actually remember your name at the end of the summer. Dave and Lucia put on a show and tell you they get to know your kids - not true. Staff is not all that interested in the camp program and doesn't appear to be well trained. We celebrated that camp was over on the last day.

The staff are nice enough, although, this camp is not really for a broad range of children, my six year old is already bored! Set in the woods it was really beautiful however, too many mosquitos. They allowed parents to drop in any time and my son was often very upset that I could not visit because I had to work. This camp is way over priced for what they offer. Further they run the same program at the park district for a fraction of the price.
