Click to report rating    7/31/17   4     4     3     3     5   Great bargain compared to other camps, good facilities, great camper diversity including special needs, mostly friendly, energentic counselors if a bit disorganized, very limited opportunities to enjoy popular activities like zipline, ropes course, water trampoline; overall a smart choice for summer camp RID: 51150
Click to report rating    10/12/16   1     4     1     1     3   During a stay at Frost Valley when they had a family camp weekend, a person in our group was basically hung on one of their ropes apparatus. While on the "flying squirrel", he went limp and lifeless (and blue in the face) because of how the harness was placed by a seemingly untrained staff member. I have serious concerns about the training of the ropes staff. RID: 50177

1/9/14   5     5     5     5     5   This place has the ability to change and shape lives. The work that the staff does here each and every year cant be expressed in words. Frost Valley changed my life and it's more than safe to say that I wouldn't be the person that I am today if it wasn't for this place. It made me believe that if you had a dream no matter how big or small you can make it come true. The fact that a place like Frost Valley exists is not only great but necessary for the youth of our country but for the youth of our country and the youth the world RID: 46533

8/9/13   5     5     5     5     5   Frost valley is my favorite place ever. I feel really safe and accepted there, and I love it as much as my own home. The counselors were the best I've had in any summer camp, and I made over 10 new friends! Everything there is perfect, and I can't wait to go back next year, and all the years after that. I can sincerely tell you, my time at Frost Valley, was the best 12 days of my life. You should go, so you can make your summers better than you ever imagined. RID: 45590

1/23/11   1     1     1     1     1   Customer service that includes answering telephones and interaction with customers is abysmal, especially those in the cross country ski barn. They are rude and the management is ineffective at best. I was truly disappointed with the service I received and will think closely as to whether to recommend this place to friends and family. Who wants to be treated with such unfriendliness? RID: 34915

2/3/10   5     3     4     5     5   I am a parent of 2 children and this will be their 3rd year. The first year (as parents we were nervous) we loved being able to communicate with the camp supervisors to help our children and get feedback about how the camp sessions were going. Both the heads of farm camp and resident camps have been extremely helpful. Last year, the camp was great about posting pictures of the kids often and many so that was very comforting. The kids look forward to going back each year. RID: 32085

7/18/09   2     2     2     2     2   I am a parent of one of last year's pokey/totem campers. My daughter had one really outstanding first year counselor who reached out to understand her. Other than that, she was treated badly. The staff was rude to eachother and that showed to the campers. The programs were extremely repetitive and I get the sense that some of the older staff isnt quite set to be leading a camp the way they are. My daughter didnt get any personal attention (except for that one first year counselor) and was treated like scum. It will be a good camp if some things change. RID: 30446

2/6/09   5     5     5     5     5   I spent 14 summers here as a camper and counselor. I still credit Frost Valley with giving me most of the tools I now use in my professional life. There is no place I am happier. RID: 28861

2/6/09   5     5     5     5     5   Fantastic! 2 weeks here was better than a year in school. So much self confidence and independence gained in such a short time. Don't judge this camp from school visitors reviews.....its a SUMMER CAMP and it simple the best one out there! RID: 28859
Click to report rating    12/23/08   5     5     5     5     5   This was the best place I have ever been. I strongly sugjest it to any animal lose. Tons of hands on experiences. And great homemade food. The councelers are so cool. I am dying to go back next year, I don't know how I can wait untill next year!!! One tip though, you will be walking through lots of mud so bring rain boots or you will be sorry RID: 28138
Click to report rating    11/29/08   2     2     3     1     1   If you have a child that has homesickness do not send him. If you want to send your kid to a place with bad food, no personal attention, counselors that are immature and only pay attention to themselves, and dirty, disgusting facilities, then send them here. Click to report rating    8/13/08   5     5     4     4     5   I've been connected to Frost Valley for many years. While the facilities have changed over the years (for the better), the core values have remained consistent. The camp is a huge bargain in comparison to the vast majority of camps in the country. Staff are well trained and responsible. Programming is age appropriate and engaging. Special programs are offered for many groups of children (asthma, kidney disease, various special needs). This is a large camp. It can be daunting if viewed as a whole but when the groups are seen as independently operating units the size is not nearly as big a deal. The food is instutional-style (made for large groups...think college dorm food) not "mom-made". As such, it doesn't appeal to everyone but it is nutritionally adequate/healthy and is offered in abundance. Overall, this camp is a true gem. RID: 25621

Click to report rating    7/11/08   5     5     5     4     5   I just got back from my first session ever at Frost Valley, and it was amazing. The scenery is beautiful, and there are SO MANY amazing activities. My favorite was the giant swing. You're never bored at camp Frost Valley. Not only did I have an amazing time and make so many new friends, but I think I really changed as a person. Because of the enthusiasm put towards the Core Values of the camp, I learned what it really meant to be part of a community and have responsibility, as well as being able to rely on others. The MAC program (for kids with developmental disabilities) enabled me to have a real sense of responsibility. The staff at Camp Frost Valley is so much fun to be around and they all share a true passion for the camp and for their campers as well. There are so many great traditions at this camp. On my very first night there I already felt like part of a huge family, having tons of fun and learning A LOT. RID: 24760
Click to report rating    6/28/08   3     2     2     1     4   My childs school went on a overnight to this camp and had a horible time. There were too many bugs..the food sucked and my daughter got a high fever and stomache virus...hopefully this camp gets colsed down...the bunking was bad and gross...the only good thing was the resonable price. The activites were to long and too many and some were ok...my daughter was scared of the cable bridge and almost fell off because they forced her to go on. The children of the school got very tierd after the boaring and dangerous activites...one girl complaind of a roach trap abover her bed and i various other spots.the class did have a ok gettaway on this overnight...it just might need to be a little more clean and safe...thank you RID: 24416
Click to report rating    6/23/08   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley YMCA is a camp like no other. Everything about it is downright perfect from the activities to the friendships. From the facilities to the nature. No matter how homesick you are, FV's down-to-earth campers and nurturing counselors will cheer you up. Also, you can never be bored at FV. Every day is different, and your activities cover a wide spectrum of interests, from frisbee to yoga. From hiking to poetry and podcasting. From journalism to rock-climbing. The lodges and super-lodges are beautiful and homey, while the cabins are cozy and rustic. Days at FV will be very busy, but will still give you enough time to rest and reflect. Nestled in the Catskills mountains, and only a couple miles from the Shawangunk Ridge, FV's rustic appearance is truly beautiful. I recommend FV to children of all ages. It has changed my life, and you will have an amazing summer, too! RID: 24139
Click to report rating    6/14/08   5     5     5     5     5   I LOVED this place, I LOVED the animals I LOVED being with other kids on a farm and I LOVED my councelers RID: 23834
Click to report rating    5/8/08   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley has changed my life. It is like the home away from home. This summer will be my 4th year attending. My first year I was TERRIBLY homesick, but the staff and the general vibe you get from the camp made me feel much more at home. The experience is so unexplainable. I don't care what other bad comments are listed below; clearly none of them got the experience they expected. Frost Valley doesn't only teach kids responsibility, independence, and about the environment, it teaches them how to be happy and enjoy life the way it is. Frost Valley may not have the best food, but that's what makes it a real experience. The staff is so warm and welcoming and the campers are great. They are really what makes this camp the way it is. I would recommend this camp to children of all ages. I know Frost Valley has changed my life and I will never forget it. I hope your child has the opportunity to attend. In other words, FROST VALLEY RULES!!! RID: 23031
Click to report rating    5/7/08   5     5     5     5     5   This summer ('08) will be my 7th attending Frost Valley (this year I will be a CIT, not a camper). I have attended other camps in the past (this will be my 10th year attending a summer camp) and can only say I love FV. I cannot put into words how much FV has changed me in the past years. The counselors are personal, the kids are amazing, and the facilities are great. Besides teaching me independence, responsibility, and respect, FV has taught me what it means to be happy and yourself. Every day is a new adventure, and they're always fun! Sure, FV doesn't have the best food, and is in most ways a 'rustic' camp- but thats what makes it fun. I'm going to camp to get away to the 'wilderness' not be catered to at every moment. Overall, its a great experience for a kid of every age. (I started attending at the age of 8- the counselors were GREAT with homesick children, also). I would recommend FV to anyone! RID: 23010
Click to report rating    4/29/08   1     2     1     1     1   I went to frost valley for a school trip and I hated it. It was rainy and gross and we played dumb games like "bug tag". The counselors asked me and my friends very personal questions like "how big is your house?" and "are there any popular kids in the schol? You dont look like one". The food made one of my friends puke. Dont let your kids go if you love them!!! RID: 22799
Click to report rating    4/26/08   4     5     3     4     5   The cabin cleanup competition was a horrible thing because it turned my bunk against each other. My best friend at camp was hated because of this and because she did horseback riding as a special. Otherwise it was fun. RID: 22667
Click to report rating    4/18/08   5     4     5     5     5   I liked it a lot except the food was kinda gross and the showers sucked( we had th oldest cabin in the camp). I loved my couslers, I loved the activeties, my favorite was the lake (not good for people that hate cold water). i am excited to go back this summer! RID: 22396
Click to report rating    4/12/08   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley is my home away form home. I love it there. The only problem about Frost Valley is that you have such an amazing time there that you dont want to leave. This summer will be my fifth year going to Frost Valley (including school). It's a beautiful place that no one should forget about. Sure the cabins arent the best but youll have so many memories by the end of one session that you wont want to leave your cain. RID: 22207
Click to report rating    2/24/08   1     5     5     5     4   The staff did treat you like kindergardeners but the cabin were awesome. Each cabin had showers, electricity, all the necesities except internet, but they do have TV. The castle is awesome. I went there with my school in the winter of 2007 and it was a trip i would never regret. The cable bridge was sooooo fun, scary at first but fun. The only bad thing of the trip was the food (I suggest eating cereal or pb sandwiches or salad) because people have gotten sick from it there. RID: 20647
Click to report rating    2/23/08   3     3     4     1     1   Frost valley was an ok camp and i liked it i guess but then on a school trip when we went to frost valley they treated the whole grade like kinder garteners which was so annoying. they made us sing stupid campfire songs and were like yay nature walk. the only fun thing we did was the ropes coarse and the cable bridge. the food bounced! UNFAIR UNFAIR! RID: 20588
Click to report rating    2/18/08   5     5     5     5     5   I really don't know how anyone could complain about this camp...i started going here much later in life than the other campers did and I formed great bonds immediately. The grounds are beautiful, it's fun, and the kids and staff are the best. Your counselors become like your older siblings and they're open to help you with whatever you need. As soon as I left I couldn't wait for the next summer. I love this camp, and you definitely would too. RID: 20393
Click to report rating    1/1/08   5     4     4     4     4   This was a good camp, but I didn't love how the lake was freezing, everything was soooooo far away, and I was always really, really, hungry. Also, I want to go again, but I want to go to the Adventure camps this time. Overall, It was pretty good. I had some really great memories! RID: 18518
Click to report rating    12/3/07   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley provides children and young adults with a set of experience that will remain invaluable for the rest of their lives. The young staff provides this while maintaining an environment that is healthy, safe, and above all fun. RID: 17675
Click to report rating    12/3/07   5     4     5     5     5   I've been going to Frost Valley every summer for the last 9 years of my life. It's changed a bit in that time, but I continue to be blown away every time I go there. Every single member of staff at FV is friendly and helpful. They really know what they're doing. Days at the camp are spent doing various fun activities, and generally hanging out with lots of kids your age. The only thing which preventd me from giving the facilities a perfect score is the quality of the food. When I first went there in '98, the food was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately the quality of the food has diminished slightly over the past few years. Having said that, I don't think that this should really be an important matter when thinking whether or not to come here. Overall, Frost Valley is an amazing camp, one of the best in the world in my opinion. And on top of that it's good value for money. They say that money cant buy you happiness. Really? Come and enjoy the Frost Valley Experience. RID: 17662
Click to report rating    11/29/07   5     4     4     5     5   Easily the best camp for the money on the east coast. The staff couldn't be more dedicated. The campers are incredibly well cared for and the results in non-sectarian values shared between campers and staff is unmatched! Every parent should yearn to send their children to Frost Valley YMCA for a session, or 3 and they will go back summer after summer because of the relationships they build. RID: 17537
Click to report rating    11/6/07   5     5     5     5     5   it was the best camp to ever go to. the staff are so helpful they are great for the kids every year i come back it's a new thing every year. Brian sense who is head of the high ropes course is great. so go check out the new Y tower that he created that is being shown all around the world as one of the icons of frost valley. this camp has a staff training program which is for past campers who want to become staff. so go check out there website Frost Valley is a great place to live and work. RID: 16811
Click to report rating    11/3/07   5     5     5     5     5   frost valley has changed my life, for the better of course. i've met some of the greatest people there & i will never forget each and every one of them. so many great times in the 4 years that i've been going there<3 anytime someone asks me what my favorite food is, i always say the fajitas at camp :) ask me my favorite song? it'll always have something to do with frost valley<3 this camp has really changed my life. i don't know where i'd be if i didn't experience it. it is, hands down, the best camp in the entire world. and i say that with complete confidence. frost valley, i love you<3 and i will never ever forget you. =) RID: 16734
Click to report rating    10/24/07   5     4     5     5     5   I was a camper here, and I worked here for numerous summers. There's something about a place that can become your home within a few hours... and that's how many campers felt by the end of the first day. Sure, this place might be considered a little more "rustic" compared to fancier camps, but it is one heckuva value for its fee. You have a good mix of staff (old and new, both "local"-NYC/NJ and international, etc.) and a good mix of kids. This wasn't my first sleepaway camp, but in my mind, it's the only sleepaway camp. RID: 16456
Click to report rating    10/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   I could not imagine how I would feel if my parents told me I couldn't go back to FV...Frost Valley is my second home, and I've met some of the best people in the world. FV has such a great sense of community. The campers are great, the counselors are great (and come from all over the world), and the activities are great! Everything about it is great (albeit the food could be a little better. But, it is hard to cook for hundreds of people, and there are tons of options for people with certain food isues). I've been going for four years, I plan on becoming a CIT and then plan on becoming a counselor after that... Frost Valley is the place to be! RID: 16237
10/7/07   1     1     2     1     1   my son did not enjoy frost valley. it was too impersonal and there was no individual focus. plenty of activities but my son was lost in the shuffle. we've definetely had better experiences. RID: 16013
Click to report rating    10/3/07   5     5     5     5     5   Most amazing place on earth. I went there for 10 years and I still am close with most of my camp friends. RID: 15776
Click to report rating    9/16/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love this camp. I've been going there every summer for the past 8 summers of my life, and I never get tired of it. There's nothing more to really say! Frost Valley is amazing and I can't wait for next summer! RID: 15348
Click to report rating    9/15/07   5     5     5     5     5   Great camp. somehow through the magic that is frost valley creates an enviornment for kids to be who they want and make some of the deepest friendships they will ever have even if they only know the kids for two weeks. as the sign reads on your way in it truley does have future leaders at work. RID: 15335
Click to report rating    9/9/07   4     4     5     5     5   this camp is amazing. when i first went, i didnt know anyone. in a matter of hours the girls in my cabin became my family. frost valley is such a magical place where you can be yourself regardless of who you are during the school year. no one judges you and everyone accepts everyone for who they are. i miss not seeing my friends that ive made over the years. not being able to see everyone as a unit is hard. there are many things that make me think of the summers there. andwhen i think of them, i cant help but smile. RID: 15066
Click to report rating    9/9/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love going to this camp. I attended three years of this camp. The staff are great people. If I had a problem they would talk to be not just because they had to for there job as a consoler but, but they wanted to. I felt like the consolers were were my friends. It was so awesome. The kids there were great. I got into a few conflicts with them but I became friends with them in the end. The kids that you'll meet there will be life long friends. Like the kids that I met the first year I still keep in touch with. I highly recommend Frost Valley as a fun camp. RID: 15062
Click to report rating    9/3/07   5     4     5     5     5   Frost Valley is an awesome place! i love going every summer meeting new people and doing fun activities. i have been coming to FV for 4 years and i love it! RID: 14864
Click to report rating    8/31/07   5     5     5     5     5   This camp is probably the best and most life changing place I have ever been. It feels more like a home to me then my real home, and I love it there. Every summer I have spent there has been life changing, and taught me so many lessons. The staff also are really amazing and really care about what they do. RID: 14778
Click to report rating    8/31/07   5     5     5     5     5   I cant even express how much i love this camp. I have been going there for three years, and am sooo happy that I chose it. It is definitely my home away from home. The friends you make there are some of the closest friends i have, and the staff are great. there's not much i would change about it, and would hope to go back as staff one day to make the kids' experience as wonderful as mine was. I love Frost Valley for so many things and would reccomend it to anyone. RID: 14750

8/31/07   5     5     5     5     5   I worked here this summer and I had the best time! All of my campers were amazing and the staff that I worked with helped out so much. We had so much fun every day; there was always something to do! I definitely am going to try to work there for the next few summers!! RID: 14733
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   i would like to say that frost valley provides an amazing experience for staff/staff in training and of course campers, diverse in multitude. the activities are all part of a way to live a healty lifestyle, high exercise low junk foods and of course they are so fun. I especially like the MAC program at Frost Valley because it seems that our program is so intergrated and so brake-through and inovative. And do not forget the staff, comitted, wanting to help bring the experience they recieved as teenagers to ones who haven't had that experiece, kudos to frost valley. RID: 14730
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   This was the first year that I worked at any summer camp. And man, am I glad that I chose FV. The facilities are incredible, the staff were welcoming, and everything was very well structured. I had one of the most life changing summers ever and I owe it all to this camp. Thank you Frost Valley. RID: 14726
Click to report rating    8/30/07   3     5     4     4     3   The food is really awful considering how much you pay to go here. I switched camps for the first time this summer and it was fun but it had the potential to be so much better. The staff also seemed kind of lazy... I'm going to be a counselor next summer at my old camp. It's a really pretty place, and it's nice to go to, but I really think they could at LEAST get better food. RID: 14725
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley is the only camp I have ever been to and it makes me never want to go to another camp, its like nothing else could even compete. I have never had a bad time there and i hope to have many more good ones. Frost Valley is an amazing camp that can provide a truly spectacular summer camp experience RID: 14722
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   Frost Valley was to sum it up, one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. It is the best experience you can ever think of having in your life, always ending up better than you ever thought it could be. I've only gone for three summers and that is still the place I call home. The staff are some of the most incredible people I've ever met, and the friends you make, truely last a lifetime. And don't take it lightly when we say this, because the people you can meet here are people who will be there for you, always. Most of my friends at 'home' cannot even compare to the ones I make at camp. I can't imagine what my life would have been without it. It made me be able to open my mind to a whole new way of looking at things, in the most amazing way. Words can't even describe being able to spend a summer at Frost Valley. RID: 14720
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   I don't even know if words express how great Frost Valley is. Let me just say this, I was 9 years old when I first went to FV and I've done three of the different camps, including farm camp! Since I've started, I have always had an amazing time at FV and I can't stay away. Frost Valley literally carried me through an awkward stage of my life and I turned out to be a better person because of FV. Without it, I know I wouldn't be the person I am today. I have just completed my first summer and I was absolutely blown away! Seeing FV through the other side(the staff side) was an experience I am so grateful to have gone through. There wasn't a day at camp I didn't see a kid absolutely happy and believe me, it's one of the most beautiful things anyone can see in their life. I've recommended many families to FV and they have all had positive feedback. I would highly recommend FV to anyone. Thank you FV for the experience you have given me, I am a better person because of it. RID: 14719

I have seen life long friendships forged from experiences here. I am only jealous that the camp wasn't apart of my childhood, however, it will certainly be a part of my daughters! RID: 14717
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   It's difficult to sum up all of the things that makes Frost Valley amazing in just 1000 characters, but I'll try. Frost Valley is the most amazing camp I have ever been to for so many reasons, at Frost Valley it is totally normal to have a counselor from your home town, and a counselor from across the globe. No one bats an eye when your afternoon activities consist of 'sports and games with the Japanese campers in the Tokyo Partnership' and 'Natrual Facials with the MAC Campers (developmentally disabled campers)' Frost Valley has amazing facilities and activities for kids of all ages, and manages to unite the entire camp, 6-16 year olds for whole camp events once a session. I grew up at Frost Valley, and it has helped me to become the person I am. There are so few places where kids can just be kids, without un-needed pressures of the world, and FV is one of them. Snug in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, FV offers an amazing camping experience unlike any you will find any where else! RID: 14713

I have met incredible people at Frost Valley every summer, and I could not imagine what it would be like to spend a summer somewhere other than Frost Valley. The people there are amazing and make the camping experience amazing. I LOVE FROST VALLEY! RID: 14707
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   It was an absolutely incredible experience and loved every minute of it. I can only look bad with positive memories. Attending this camp may have been the best decision of my life. It has transformed me from a shy young girl into a confident young woman. I crossed paths with people I never would have had the chance to meet and made life long friends. Openmindedness and individuality are celebrated adn one is encouraged to safely try new experiences and explore the world as well as themselves. Those who attend are lucky for such a wonderful opportunity. RID: 14697
Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   frost vallye is my home away from home. i love it there and i could not ask for anything better. The days are always so filled up that we are never bored and by the time we get to sleep at night, we don't want to go out or do anything becuase we are so tired after an amazing day of camp. all the staff are amazing and we always get along and then the kids are what make it 100 times better. it's so much fun and anyone who hasn't heard about it or is hesitant about going there should definitely rethink their idea and sign up right away. it is the best place ever and all your problems at home and in your life go away for that short little amount of time. yes, i am usually there for only a month but that is the best month of my entire life and i look forward to it every year. the people, the place, everything and everyone at frost valley is absoultely amazing and i wouldn't change anything about it for the world. Click to report rating    8/30/07   5     5     5     5     5   I love Frost Valley....It was a rocky start but it had a great end. I loved working with all the staff and no matter which program you were in they accepted you. However the food is horrible and i believe something needs to be done about that...HUGE and i mean HUGE piece of beef found in the soup one day for example. RID: 14688

Click to report rating    4/22/07   3     4     3     3     4   Frost Valley's a good camp; I went there for two years. It's not the best out there (a lot of the kids there are inner city New Yorkers with a LOT of behavioral problems), but the staff are kind and the activities are--for the most part--fun. RID: 9935
Click to report rating    4/7/07   4     2     2     2     3   I went to Frost Valley with my school. It was horrible! The food tastes really bad, so I lived on cereal. The only fun activity was the cable bridge, which lasted 1 minute. I would not reccomend this camp. RID: 9501
