I went to Cybercamp in WA a long time ago- when I was 13 or so. When I got there everyone seemed to know each other so I felt a little left out. I'm a pretty shy person but by the end of the morning I had been included in everything the rest of the kids were doing and had fun. I went with my brother but they had gotten their info wrong and thought I was a guy. I ended up being in a dorm room by myself (I did the overnight version)- which I thought was pretty cool. I actually learned a lot and it was a lot of fun. I made friends with a girl in my game programing class and I made a really cool robot that I still have today in my robotics class. I think some of the classes could be kinda dull and boring but if you pick the right classes it's really fun and you learn a lot. It was good for my age group. I ran out of money though for the food court, so if you do plan on sending your kids to the overnight version put more money on the card than they say to. Over all I think its a great camp!

CyberCamp was disappointing, you go there to learn programming and what do you get? You get ultimate frizbee and "feel good" group games. WTF?! They focus more on outdoor activities then actual programming. If I wanted sports I'd pay for a sports camp, worse use of money ever. Not only that but the instructors are inconsistent with their knowladge, curriculum is not structured and changes based on what the on campus manager feels like doing (which often isn't related to computers!). First couple of years the structure was actually pretty free, infact kids freely damaged computers and they had a room where those computers went and we could play with them (e.g. rebuild them). No real structure, could do what we wanted on the computer for as long as we wanted ...it was great. Third year I came back, manager had changed and it was strict as hell. They had helpers that constantly watched over your shoulder and had installed Bess. New manager had it out forme and kicked me out, gone to hell!

We just had our first experience with this camp in the Seasttle area and were very underwhelmed. In the "Cyberexplorers" program they promised us a lot of activities that just never happened...like the "campus" tour and the introduction to robotics (they basically let the kids play with an over- the- counter Robosapian!). This may be a suitable program for a child with little to no computer background or if you select a more advanced "specific" track...( but note they are using software version that are 3+ years old in most areas!) but since they don't do any skills assessment prior you wont know if your child is getting a suitable experience. All instruction was done via a remedial click and read computer instruction program. We did not feel this was worth the expense and had hoped for a challenging program. This was not it.

Our review is based on the St. Louis branch of Cybercamp. My daughter's experience was boring and dull. The food was awful and the "Water Day" was the counselor's hosing down the kids. She learned quite a bit regarding Adobe Photoshop, but the assignments were so vague that she didn't feel challenged. The time away from the computers was spent sitting around playing board games. This camp was truly a disappointment, especially for the price.

An amazing computer camp that stresses social inter-action as well computer technology. A great buy for the money! They have camps all across the USA and are ACA accredited nation-wide. No other computer camp can claim this fact.
